The Wigmore is a new place inside the upmarket Langham Hotel near Oxford Circus, which calls it itself a ‘Great British Pub’. That designation would be accurate if pubs looked like ballrooms and had Michel Roux Jr overseeing the food.

There’s communal seating and a bar with a short but good selection of ales, but other than that, it’s basically a posh restaurant in disguise serving upmarket pub food like pies and a cheeseburger. The bar snacks (like masala scotch eggs, or crab crumpets) are very good, but the mains are so-so. The Wigmore isn’t a place we’d go out of our way for, but we’d be happy to drop in for a drink and those crumpets if we were in the area and looking to kill some time.
