This is the second book of a two part series. The events in this book take place ten years after those of book one. While it isn’t strictly necessary to read book one, I think this book would be best enjoyed after reading book one first. Emotions, actions, and reactions will make more sense.
Truthfully, I enjoyed this book more than the first one. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the first book. I think this is more authentic in its presentation with regards to emotions, actions, and reactions. One thing the author did with this book is to tell the story from alternating points of view, it works well and gives more depth to the story.
I don’t want to say to much about the story - I don’t want to spoil anything. I would have like to have seen a few things touched upon that weren’t. I think it would have given the character an opportunity to give the character back more control of their life and things denied.
Part 2 of If Tomorrow Never Comes picks up 10 years down the road.
Alyssa has left the music behind to become a lawyer and to help up and coming stars. She's been working and surviving, but not really living. When Frank asks her to accompany some talent to New York for a political fundraiser she's hesitant. After losing the love of her life she's never stepped foot back in the state.
But her trip to New York reveals things that has her thinking she's losing her mind. Now she has to determine if she's willing to fight for what she wants.
I really liked part 2 more than the first. I was happy to see that this one, unlike the first, was from both perspectives rather than the one. Made me start to understand and get to know the characters a bit more.
I received an ARC from The Book Enthusiast for an honest review
Don't shoot me. This is my first read by this author. I love young adult/new adult books. In the beginning I was like yes Alyssa is going out to make something of herself right after high school. She knows what she wants. While on her trip to Nashville she meets Logan. They talked while having an impromptu "date" at McDonald's. See Alyssa wants a life in music, little did she know Logan was headed to Nashville for the same thing.
Once in Nashville, things seemed to fall into place for Alyssa very easily. No way no how! Yes some might call it fate, but I am calling it luck!! She just happened to stop at a diner where a country music singer was with her manager. What are the odds? It's Nashville.
Any how once Alyssa has the night of her life with Tasha a big country singer. She magically runs into Logan again. Here is my thing and where it all starts to go eh for me. I get love at first site. I do the first night I saw my now husband I knew we were going to get married. It's just that Alyssa and Logan were to lovey dovey, to mushy, to oh I love you, don't leave me!! I understand having a bad experience with an ex. You just met for crying out loud!!! Give the girl some room to breath. Then when it came to having sex for the first time, or even before they had sex for the first time. It was do you trust me, if you keep doing that I won't be able to stop!! I wanted to gag almost. I'm sorry I said it!! I loved reading about when Alyssa was jamming and singing that was great. Then the tragedy, the lies for 10 yrs. Trying to move on. 10 yrs of being apart. Getting back together, it seemed like they picked up right where they left off. OMG I couldn't take it. I had to skim. Sorry again!!
One thing you can say about this book is that true love never dies!!
I am a sucker for wanting two people to find each other. When Alyssa and Logan are pulled apart again, I just could not wait to see what happened! I am so happy part 2 was available right away! As in the first book, Alyssa and Logan have an undeniable attraction to each other but things have changed so much in their lives since they have been separated. The chemistry jumps of the pages with these two and it is a wonderful giddy read. The second book was so even better than the first! I loved reading how they find themselves back to each other but I cannot tell you if it last…. *wink wink
Sophie Slade, what can I say, took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions during this entire book. I loved that! One moment I was happy, then giddy, then sad, then angry, then happy and then a WTH. If Tomorrow Never Comes is not the typical book were the couple finds each other and they live happily ever after. Oh and that couple, Alyssa and Logan, I wanted nothing more than to be a couple. The story starts off with Alyssa moving to Nashville at the age of 18 and all by herself so she can pursue her dreams of becoming a singer. It is in a diner she meets Logan, who is charming and you will just love him! It seems as if all is going perfect for Alyssa in the beginning and just about in the middle Sophie Slade makes me have the first drop on that rollercoaster I was talking about. There is just always some outside force keeping these two from being with each other. For instance, the coma Alyssa was in. Events in Alyssa’s life make her change her dreams of being a famous singer and maybe even her feelings for Logan! I know I was so upset but this is where it is a wonderful thing to have Part 2 available right away. I did not have to wait for the second part to come out.
