Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei took part in the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting

On December 9, 2016 the meeting of Council of Foreign Ministers of the OSCE States finished in Hamburg.

At the invitation of the OSCE Chairman, the Foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Makei took part in an informal exchange of views by heads of delegations on the topic “The relevance of arms control for today’s European security architecture.” In his speech, Foreign Minister of Belarus outlined the importance of restoring the viability of the regime of control over conventional arms in Europe, that would meet the current military-political situation on the continent. It was stressed, that, because of the crisis of confidence, the start the substantive dialogue on the subject requires a political high-level signal, what could be the OSCE summit.

At a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Stéphane Dion, V.Makei stressed the interest of Belarus to boost bilateral political contacts, trade and economic cooperation with the Canadian side. The ministers also exchanged views on the prospects of resolving the situation in Ukraine.
