Life Changed in the Blink of an Eye

Where do I begin? I've written several of these for friends in need. I even wrote one when my mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer. Though we didn't get to take the trips we wanted with the money raised, the money did enable us to buy her a car, paid in full, when she totalled her other car. Thankfully, she wasn't injured because from the looks of both cars, it's a miracle nothing worse happened.

Here I am, finding myself writing a plea to the public, because I'm finding myself in a very unfortunate, embarrassing, and overall humbling siutation. This is a bit long, but I hope you'll take the time to read.

Over the course of the past year, I've supported my mother and my son (and will continue to do so). As my mother battled Stage 4 Breast Cancer, I took off work to make sure she would get to the necessary appointments, scans, treatment and surgeries that came with having cancer. I even took 3 weeks off with FMLA after her surgery to take care of her. For those unfamiliar with FMLA, I was not paid during that time. I should also mention that we were downsizing and moving into a smaller house to reduce the cost of rent and bills. I was also in the process of working on my credit. During this same time, Tropical Storm Harvey put Houston under water. Basically, we had a lot of money going out, but nothing coming back in to replenish the bank account. I made the decision that some bills would have to wait in order to pay the most important ones (keeping a roof over our head and the electricity running).

Since then, I became 2 months behind on my carnote and well, I had to let them repossess the car.  It's embarrassing, and unfortunate, but there really isn't anything I can do about it now. I can't afford to get the car out of repossession, so I just have to let them have it.

I've also been forced to resign from my job for excessive absences. I was unable to sign the commitment documents because I wasn't able to meet the expectations that were laid out. With another surgery on the horizon and more scans in the upcoming months, I could not guarantee that I wouldn't be taking off more time. And since working remotely is not an option, I was forced to turn in a resignation. This basically means there will be NO severance package, and NO opportunity to file for unemployment.

With all that being said, I need to find a new job (actively seeking) and I need a car in order to get to the new job. Heck, I need a car to get to the interviews. .  At this time, I am showing up to work late and leaving early so that I can make sure my kiddo gets to school and gets picked up using my mom’s car. Now that my mother had the cataract surgery, she is able to drive again. But the day after having the surgery, the car was repossessed. Go figure.

As of November 10th, I will be unemployed. While I am able to pay our rent for the next month, nobody is going to sell me a car with a repossession fresh on my credit. Nobody will finance me (Bad Credit OK people) if I don't have a job. I have found several cars under $4000 if I pay cash, with lower mileage. They are older cars in incredible shape, which is normally what I look for when purchasing a vehicle. Problem is, I don’t have the cash. What little we do have left, needs to be conserved for food, bills, etc. I’m at a loss and am asking for your help. Every little bit counts.

This has been the toughest year I've ever had, and I shouldn't be complaining. I imagine this has been the toughest year for my mom, because she's had to endure everything and actually go through the illness. I just need a boost. I just need one thing to go right. And I'm hoping you can help, even just a little. I understand there are people out there that need more help than we do, which is why it is so difficult for me to even ask and put all my business out here. But I'm just not sure what to do at this point. We need help. I need help. And I’m hoping you or possibly someone you know could help.

If you read this far, thank you so much for your time and compassion.

Sincerely,
Tiffany
