It’s uncommon to find a social worker who has truly done it all. From human resources, marketing, and admissions, Carol Sanders is one of the most well-rounded social workers around. Her experience and knowledge is what makes her so fantastic at her job at Envoy at the Village in Fork Union, VA.

Over the last twenty plus years in the healthcare industry, Carol has seen and learned a lot. Having experience in several areas, she is able to bring that knowledge to her current role and truly deliver her level of excellence to her residents and patients. Although Carol has had many roles, she has found her passion in social work. We asked her what she likes the most about her current position versus past jobs and she said “I can deal with the residents one on one, and listen to their concerns. I love being able to help the residents no matter what their situation may be.”

Carol’s unique relationships with her residents are what make her great at what she does and why everyone seems to love her so much. We asked her what kind of relationships she has with her residents and she said, “I would say, I’m easy to talk with. They ask for me, and they feel comfortable knowing that they can come to me with concerns, even if it’s not under my realm.” Carol is a family-oriented person and because of this, residents and patients trust her and feel as though they can confide in her. With all of the things she has done and seen in her career, Carol has wisdom that she can share with others that is truly priceless.

She takes it upon herself not only to provide the residents with special attention, but also to get to know them as individuals and take time to make them feel noticed and cared for. One resident in particular needed some new outfits. So, Carol helped her look through a catalog and made a few recommendations on some clothes. When that resident wears an item that Carol picked out for her, she is always excited to point it out. It’s this specialized care that Carol provides that makes her appreciated by many.

We asked Carol what she enjoys most about working at Envoy at the Village and she said, “Every day is different. It’s a unique field, and I enjoy working with the residents and the families to meet their needs”. Additionally, she really enjoys the small atmosphere, and that the residents are able to get to know one another. The team works well together, and it’s a very family-oriented environment.

Carol also sees the changes in healthcare and in rehabilitation services. She said, “Healthcare used to be more long-term, geriatric, which I enjoy, but it’s changing and younger people are coming into our buildings. It hits home because you think…that could be me”. Having seen this change has directly impacted the way she sees her patients and how she treats them.

Carol has found her calling in social work and at the Village. She is happy with her role and believes she is where she should be after so many years in the field. We are beyond grateful for her dedication and service to our amazing patients and residents and we hope she is around for years to come. Thank you Carol!
