In this edition of the hotstove, we share our Hart Trophy picks for the 2017-18 season.
Todd Cordell
Connor McDavid.
He's a few years away from his prime and may already be the best player in the league. Nobody has the speed, skill, or gamebreaking ability he does and I think he's going to take things up another notch this season.
If healthy, I expect McDavid to (somewhat) easily clear 100 points and have the Edmonton Oilers in contention for a division title. That should be enough to get him his second Hart Trophy in as many years.
My runner up is Nikita Kucherov. I expect him to have another huge year and lead what should be a very good Tampa Bay team in scoring.
Matt Henderson
Connor McDavid wins again. He's the best and he's only getting better. I'm calling for north of 110 points for McDavid and he does it by scoring more goals. Outside chance for Crosby to win the award. McDavid is getting more TV-friendly game times in the East this year. More people than ever will be watching him play. Once you do that, it's impossible to vote for anyone else. Impossible.
Peter Tessier
This one seems easy and it is-front runner is McDavid then everyone else. What makes some one other than McDavid possible is if something happens to McDavid or maybe the Oilers. Don't rule out Crosby or even some one like Karlsson but what about Matthews?
Should the Calder winner progress even more and the Leafs build upon their season from last year should he not be in the conversation? Maybe even Burns should be considered if defensemen are an option.
Who are we kidding though, it's McDavid's to lose and that's about all we have to watch for now.
