Police: Carbon monoxide sends 6 children, 2 adults to hospital

STAFF REPORT

WASHINGTON COUNTY — Six children and two adults were rushed to the hospital in serious condition after vehicular trouble caused all of them to suffer carbon monoxide poisoning, officials confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

Several details of the incident were left unclear. The incident happened about 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of State 20 and Strickland Road just north of Bay County's jurisdiction. Several emergency responders rushed to the scene, where some of the children reportedly were unresponsive from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Washington County Sheriff Kevin Crews said the group was driving in deep mud on State 20 in the area when the vehicle somehow began filling with carbon monoxide, causing some of the passengers to fall asleep from the fumes.

Neither the children's nor the adult's names were immediately available.

Authorities reported the children were revived as they were rushed to Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
