Personal statement by Rebecca Massey, standing for election as treasurer of Hove Constituency Labour Party at its annual general meeting at Ralli Hall, 81 Denmark Villas, Hove BN3 3TH, at 11am on Sunday, February 5.

Rebecca says:

“I am currently Chair of Brunswick, Adelaide, andCentral Hove Branch and standing for Treasurer of Hove and Portslade CLP.

“Once we know the financial position of this CLP the new EC will be able to plan a budget and determine fundraising activities. We will need to be on a sound financial footing for our campaigning. My wish is to see Corbyn as PM and a democratic, socialist Labour government in power.

“We know that the country desperately needs Labour’s ten pledges to be put into action. In Hove and Portslade we all know how much we need the secure homes guarantee, a safe NHS and social care, public ownership of services, especially rail, and a reduction in grotesque inequality of income and wealth.

Personal skills
• As a Head of Social Sciences I managed a budget across three subject areas
• I am Treasurer of a local community group
• I am familiar with the use of spreadsheets for accounting and am able to keep a detailed running total of income and expenditure
• I can present clear financial reports in a timely manner
• I will follow the Labour Party guidance on the legal framework for CLP accounts and abide by the reporting dates to all relevant bodies.
• I will work closely with other EC members and branch officers, particularly those responsible for campaigns and fundraising.
• I am committed to being open, transparent and accountable to members.

“If elected, I will bring to the role of Treasurer strong organisational skills, teamwork and a commitment to fundraising and campaigning for socialist Labour policies.”
