#WFD – Biltong flat bread on the braai

Instead of the usual rolls that you buy from the local store, why not incorporate one of South Africa's beloved snacks into these delicious flat breads

POLOKWANE – Are you having a braai this weekend? Instead of the usual rolls that you buy from the local store, why not incorporate one of South Africa’s beloved snacks into these delicious flat breads and try something different.

The preparation of the dish will take some time because you would have to wait for the dough to rise but it is sure to be hit with your guests in the end.

Ingredients

  1. 1 x cup water
  2. 400ml white bread flour
  3. 1 x sachet KNORR Cheese & Bacon Flavour Potato Bake
  4. 1 x 10g packet instant yeast
  5. 100g biltong, sliced and roughly broken up
  6. 100g flour (for dusting)

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix together flour, yeast, KNORR Cheese & Bacon Flavour potato Bake sachet contents and water to form a soft dough.
  2. Knead by hand for about 15 minutes or knead in a machine for 5 minutes.
  3. Place dough in a clean bowl and leave in a warm place to double in size.
  4. Once risen, knock back and add the biltong.
  5. Divide the mixture into 8 portions.
  6. Dust the surface lightly with flour, and using a rolling pin, roll each portion of dough into small, flat rounds about 15 cm in diameter.
  7. Dust off excess flour and place on braai for about 1 minute.
  8. Turn and cook the other side.
  9. Tip: Ensure the fire is not too hot or the bread will burn.
