One Final Breath

One life.
One choice.
One love.
Sometimes it’s all we get and one moment could change it all.

I hate the number one—it haunts me; my every waking moment is a constant reminder of what I lost.

One day, I met a guy and I fell in love.
He asked me one question…I said yes.

Our life was perfect…until one day everything changed.

I watched him slowly slip and fade away.
The one person I loved, my best friend, my partner, my everything, was slowly dying right in front of my eyes.
The doctors said he had one year left; he only lasted one month.
As I held on to his hand, he took one final breath and slipped from this world.
Leaving me; one woman, one broken heart, one child to show the world to…all alone.

This is my story about the power of one...

Beautiful, heart-breaking, emotional story about loss and grief, about new love and new beginning, about letting go but never forgetting.

I adored the heroine, strong kind woman who lost her young husband on cancer and was left with adorable 5-year-old son.
Alone in grief, alone in pain.
God, I cried every single time her dead husband was mentioned. I admired her strength and how she managed her life, and how she cared for her son.

The hero was amazing. Father of h’s son’s BFF, recently separated from his wife, he loved and cared for his child. He was immediately smitten with the heroine and showed so much patience and understanding I didn’t think a man could do.

The issue with h’s dead husband, respectively the memory of him, was solved brilliantly!
I totally understood why the heroine pushed the hero away, I cried with her when she thought about her beloved husband, my heart broke for her so many times…
The hero was a truly MAN to me, honorable loving man who didn’t ask his woman to forget her husband, he didn’t want her to erase the memory of her child’s father. He always supported her.
He didn’t want to replace her first love, he only wanted her to heal, and he wanted her to accept his love and their life together. Perfection!

I honestly don’t know what I would do in such situation.
But I realize, that if I left my family I would want them to be happy again, but I never want to be forgotten, I never want them to feel guilty speaking about me. I would want the person, who eventually took my place, to know me and respect me.
I would want to be loved; I would want to live in their hearts.

Beautiful human love story!

My respect for the heroine how she managed the situation with H’s ex-wife, how she was on the side of a mother, how she showed the hero the right way to find a peace with the mother of his child. Respect, woman!!!

I loved this book, but there were some things that bothered me a bit.
I wished for a longer time for heroine to grieve and to heal, 2 or 3 years after the death of her husband would have been more proper (instead of only 1 year).
The hero was often too harsh with his ex. I got that she made a lot of mistakes, but I wished for more respect from his side.
Their 1st sexting/telephone sex was unexpected for me. Maybe a real kiss before at least?

This book not only made me feel, I learned a lot from this story.

Thanks to the author for this life experience!

Faye lost her beloved husband Ben to cancer. A year later she met Thane.
So, I embraced some scenes where Thane and her late husband shared some similarities, e.g. both liked Chai tea latte.
But when Faye was looking at him and he reminded her of Ben, a resemblance she had overlooked, my interest started fading. From then on, I struggled to keep reading, I couldn’t connect with the characters and dnf @ 60%.

A Review of One Final Breath by LK Collins

This author will rip your heart out and hand it back to you - 5+++++ stars

This book had me hooked from the first page. As someone that sat by my mother's bedside, with my daughter, and watched her take her last breath on this earth, Ms. Collins had me sobbing from the beginning. I knew this would be an AMAZING story and I was right. I actually felt like I was right there in the bedroom with Faye, Braxley and Ben as he took his last breath. Whereas I was able to rejoice with my daughter that my mother was at peace and no longer in pain, Faye had to deal with the fact that Ben was taken so quickly from her and that they weren't able to do all the things on his bucket list before his end.

Over a year later, Faye is still dealing with the heartbreak that Ben's death left her with. She is barely functioning and Ben had wanted her to move on and find happiness after he was gone. When she first meets Thane, it is totally by accident—or is it. She left home without her coffee, then when she goes to Starbucks, the drive-thru line is really long so she has to go inside; then she finds out that she forgot her wallet and this stranger buys her drink for her. A couple of days later, they meet again, in the same elementary school class—where his son Jack and her son Braxley, will be in class together. It just seems like they keep getting pushed together and she always feels like Ben is there when they are together.

I love how Faye is able to show Thane the best way of handling his relationship with Char, for the sake of their son. The fact that she offers Char understanding and friendship shows the kind of character that is so rarely seen nowadays. You definitely don't want to miss this one, but make sure you have a box of tissues handy, you're gonna need them. OUTSTANDING work.

***FULL REVIEW***

4 Hope Filled CROWNS

There are attributes of an LK Collin's novel that I expect, such as steamy and sexy scenes between her heroine and hero, suspense and drama, and an engaging plot. And while One Final Breath is engaging and has the hot scenes between the main characters, it differs in the tone and type of romance it is, and readers will enjoy the change of pace.

Faye, the heroine of her story, has just been dealt a loss so devastating that most people wouldn't survive, but she does. Every single day she is getting up and putting one foot in front of the other, but she is doing more than just surviving, as she has responsibilities with which she cannot be remiss in completing. Although, she doesn't see it, Faye is an incredibly strong character. She is understanding, compassionate, and formidable.

Thane, the hero of the story, is the perfect fit for this woman who has lost her world. He is understanding of what she needs, pushing her slightly to move on and live her life, but never shoving her. Her gives her time and space, and is incredibly supportive of what she needs. There are moments when his reactions to someone in his past seem extreme, but that tends to be the case when children are involved. Overall, he is her perfect match, maybe the only one that can get her to move on.

The tone of this story is much sadder than the other books I have read by LK Collins, but although it has the sad tones, it is still a book that focuses on hope. Ms. Collins doesn't dwell on the loss, she focuses on the growth. She shows that it is possible to move on, and not move on in a way that one forgets the past, but where the past is acknowledged, respected, and honored, while also being able to live fully in the present. This theme is one that will resonate with many readers, but especially those who have lost people who matter most to them.

One Final Breath is an emotional read. It will pull at readers' heartstrings, but it also offers the readers hope for the future. So although there is loss and heartache, it is ultimately about healing and hope for the future, and who doesn't love a romance like that?

Thane is such a sweetheart and the man knows he's good looking, I'm thinking he likes it when Faye ogles him, "I lift my shirt over my head, knowing I have to follow the boys outside. She stares at my abs, and what I really can’t wait for is to see her in her swimming suit." Thane is easily excited about things when it comes to Faye, "eff yeah! Does that mean I’ll get lucky, too?” I whisper into her ear and she nods. I grab a handful of her *** holding her close to me. Jesus Christ, I love this woman and everything about her." I liked this book, it was emotional, sweet and Thane and Faye were perfect for one another.

Grab the tissues because you are going to need the whole box! This book is so emotional, gut-wrenching. Not like any other books from LK Collins. I'm in love with Faye and Thane. Not to mention Braxley and Jack, these two little boys are great!

Faye becomes such a strong woman after she has a major life changing moment. It takes her awhile to get there but thanks to Thane, she is able to get be strong once again. Thane is just the man to help her thru it all. Because of his love, Faye is able to move forward and be happy again.

True love. Soul mate. The one and only or a guiding hand to the true one. Faye thought she had found her one true soul mate, but fate had other plans for her and her husband. The plan was to help guide her to the right one, her true other half. SO with a guiding hand he guides her broken heart to the one that will heal for biggest journey of her life~ Thane.
Thane, was living in his own personal hell. Dealing with his ex wife that had no interest in putting her family before her own needs. He felt he was moving in slow motion, until he bought a lady a cup of coffee. Fate intervenes and shows him what true love and soulmates are.
Together they give us a romance that will steal your breath away and fill you soul with warmth. A father that loves his children, a man that loves the woman in his arms. A woman that grieves and is remade. A mother that would do anything for her children. A romance of second chances and happily ever afters.

LK Collins will make you believe in second chances with their new book.

If you've read from this husband and wife writing dup before, by now, you know that this couple write about quick steamy reads. Well, most of their books are. However, they have taken their writing to another level in their new book One Final Breath.

The heroine-- Faye-- lost her husband to cancer at a very young age. Left with her son and her paintings, she tries to move on. She thought she also died with Ben, until a stranger offered to pay for her coffee one morning. Faye thought she will never feel again, until Thane comes to her life.

Thane is still in the process of fixing his life again. Too much has happened to him that cause him lots of trouble. He's still a part of his past life and the last thing he needs is to be attracted to a widowed woman. But how could he stay away from her, when Faye is everything Thane has been wanting in his life?

I thought I knew how LK Collins write, but I was wrong.... so wrong. I wasn't ready to be devastated and left brokenhearted as early as Prologue. The beginning was just too emotional and raw, this will book will seriously make readers ugly cry. Also, I would say that LK have really improved their writing. This is nothing like these authors work in the past, I promise. It still has those steamy scenes that this duo is most popular for, but One Final Breath has more emotions.

Beautifully written, gripping, and touching-- this is LK Collin's at their best!

I’m a huge follower of LK & when I read the blurb for this, I knew I was going to fall head over heals with these characters & their story. I wasn’t wrong!! OMG from the first chapter which had my heart breaking & tears tumbling down my face in devastation, to the final pages, where the tears were of happiness, this book did wrap around my heart & hugged me from start to finish.

So – Who are the heart breakers & soul takers??

Thane & Faye literally bump into each one random day. Maybe it was written in the stars that they would meet, maybe an undeniable force led them together, but from that ONE moment, their lives changed forever. As their journey unfolds you get to see them both as individuals trying to make it in the world. Both with different types of baggage, but both trying to figure out where they belong. As the mind tries to tell the heart what is right, the guilt & shame threaten to end something beautiful before its actually began. Both of these beautiful characters have to dig deep into their reserve & find the inner strength to fight for tomorrow.

Thane is a single dad fighting his way through a messy divorce. He is strong, caring & so compassionate that his actions & tenderness left me aching. He is a good man, no – a great man. He has the kind of inner beauty that shines way beyond his good looks & once his heart is open – well the only kind of loving he can give is the full on, unconditional kind. I absolutely loved him.

Faye. Wow was she strong. How does someone survive the tragedy & find a way to move on? She is courageous, inspiring & loyal. Her ability to live a new day, to push forward for a future she isn’t even sure she deserves melted my heart. She made me cry, laugh & smile. I rooted for her every moment, needing her to have the HEA she deserved.

How are the feels?

Gorgeous. Even under the circumstances which tore at my heart, I found myself smiling & laughing at certain parts & even at times through my tears. It made me feel hopeful as well as strengthening my belief in fate.

How’s the writing?

It was tender, compassionate & loving throughout, sprinkled with some laughter & warmth. I loved the dual POV which added some depth to how both characters were feeling, including how vulnerable they both were & I adored MASSIVELY the roles the children played adding a layer to the story that tied it all together so perfectly. It’s also fair to say in true LK style there was some raunch, but it was tasteful & fit in beautifully with the story.

If anything – I wish the book was longer, I loved this pair a lot & would have loved to spend more time with them

Would I recommend to my bestie?

Yes!! They would need to have the tissues ready & clear a few hours out of their day to curl up on the sofa & read this in one go – it’s not the kind you want to walk away from

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, suspense, secrets, and heartbreak.

This is Faye and Thane’s story. Faye has been grieving for the last year after losing her husband. He son has been the reason she is still functioning. One morning she meets Thane at a coffee shop. He is ordering the same thing her husband used to order. They slowly become friends. He wants more but she is not sure she can move on. His ex is still in the picture causing issues for him with his son. Can these two figure out what they want from each other or will the memory of her husband keep them apart? Or will she find love again in someone so different then her husband?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book.

One Final Breath is a tear jerker and then some! It will crush your heart and put it back together again by the time it's done with you.

"It's like I can feel him pushing me towards you."

Faye is a widow, a single mom to Braxley. After the loss of her husband she feels nothing but grief and sadness. It's been a while since he passed and she just can't get passed it, not even a little bit. Not until she meets Thane.

Thane is a divorced single dad to Jack. I loved his character, as a father he is SO SO good to his son. Almost too good- in wanting to protect him and not always making the best choices when it comes to his ex wife.

Braxley and Jack hit it off as best friends and bring Faye and Thane closer than ever. Play dates at the house mean more intimate settings, more time to get to know each other. Faye slowly strips away her grief little by little. But it's not easy, she feels guilty as heck for it. How can she fall for another man when her man is no longer on earth? Her son's father?

"It's okay to cry, Faye. You don't always have to be so strong."

Thane is one of the most understanding characters in the history of characters. He takes his time with Faye and truly wants her to feel safe. Whenever she is ready, no rush. I loved that about him, he has so many redeeming qualities, Faye helps balance out his flaws.

Together the couple and their boys work through it all. The ups and downs, the good times and bad. Family vacations, field trips, school functions, they are there together to get through it all. One Final Breath is a great love story, one of forgiveness and acceptance... Getting over your fears and learning to let go and to live.

My rating: 4/5 stars

***ARC Provided by the Author for an Honest Review***

I have been waiting to read this book, and just like every other novel of LK Collins that I have read, I was addicted from the start.

I don’t know if I was just feeling overly emotional the day I read ‘One Final Breath’, but I’m thankful for the box of tissues I had sitting beside me. There was more than one occasion where I found myself grabbing at those tissues to wipe the tears I had streaming down my face.

There is a depth to this story that I wasn’t expecting. One that had me reminiscing at times, remembering how I felt during sad times of my life and what I had done to start the healing process.

Faye and Thane are beautiful characters, in a magnificent story about loss, and the rediscovery of love. I can’t express in words how well written ‘One Final Breath’ really is. You will have to trust me when I tell you that it will drag you along on the ride of your life, where you will experience every little moment as if it were you living it yourself.

Do you believe in Fate? Or, that there is someone looking out for us?

No? Well I think you need to read this book, because it will reinstall those beliefs that fate works in mysterious ways.

One Final Breath...the title alone tells you what you can expect and along with the blurb, you already know that there is a heart-shattering loss. And even knowing this, it STILL takes your breath and breaks your heart!

I can't tell you how much I LOVED this book...it touched something deep inside, first with the heart-stopping beginning and then with the strength of one very special heroine. A woman who overcame one of THE most difficult things anyone can overcome and came out the other side with the help and love of one very special hero, FOR the love of her young son!

Along the way, there are moments of heartache and regret, guilt and forgiveness, some HOT and steamy love scenes (it wouldn't be written by LK Collins WITHOUT them!) and eventually joy and happiness! There is sooooo much emotion, so many tears and even laughter, but the underlying feels are what suck you in and don't let go until the extremely satisfying epilogue!

All I'm gonna say is you NEED to read this book....and, oh yeah!! Thane is MINE!!!

description

One Final Breath was a great 5 star second chance romance.

You get pulled right in from the beginning. My heart shattered for Faye and Braxley and what they were going through with Ben. This especially hits home from a life experience for myself as well.

We then jump ahead a year later to Faye trying to move forward. She has been struggling and has been talking to a therapist which seems to be helping.

While at her son's class orientation she meets Thane who she instantly feels a connection to.
Thane asks for a playdate for their boys and Faye is scared and excited to have them over. As things move forward Faye is feeling closer to Thane and he is igniting feelings she hasn't had in a long time. Faye starts feeling guilty and quickly pushes Thane away when things start to move forward a little fast for her comfort. Can she allow Thane into her heart?

He takes the pain away-he makes me feel sane-he makes me feel like there is a light at the end of the dark tunnel I’ve been living in for so long.

There is so much more that goes on in this great read. Faye ends up helping Thane with certain things in his life as well. And the journey these two take really is great, there’s so much love and understanding. You will experience several different emotions while reading, I was exhausted but had a full heart at the end. I loved the ending and the epilogue couldn’t have been more perfect. This is the 2nd book I have read from L.K. Collins and I was once again drawn in by this duo’s writing. 1-click and get started today.

One Final Breath by LL Collins is a story about overcoming an unforeseen and tragic event that changes your life forever despite your grief and heartache.

Faye has lived through the unthinkable, losing the love of her life to cancer. She doesn't ever believe that she will find love again, despite her promise to Ben that she will move on and live her life.

Thane is in the middle of a messy divorce and his son is his sole focus, until a chance meeting at Starbucks with Faye changes his thoughts. Not being able to stay away from her has him navigating into territory that is unfamiliar.

Faye begins to move on with her life with Thane by her side. While everything isn't smooth and the rocky parts are in fact rocky, Faye and Thane navigate a relationship that they both want.

This story was both sad and sweet with the typical hot sex scenes that readers often look for in these alpha male type books. While I enjoyed the book, the ending felt super rushed to me and when I flipped the last page I immediately thought.."that's it?"
However I would recommend it to others.
