Loveless Brothers #3

Break the Rules

Rate this book
She’s my best friend’s kid sister.
Only she’s not a kid any more.

As a forest ranger, I believe in the simple life. I prefer cabins to apartments, trails to freeways, and trees to people. My life is orderly, predictable, and quiet.

Until it’s hit by a woman I never saw coming — Hurricane June.

She’s fierce. She’s feisty. She has a laugh like the first day of spring, and she’s so pretty that I can’t breathe when I look at her. June will only be in town for a few months — just while job-hunting. She won’t last until winter, but how can I resist?

Except I have to. She’s my best, oldest, and most loyal friend’s baby sister.

Betraying him would be the worst thing I’ve ever done. Not betraying him might be the hardest.

Especially once we start working together on a secret project. All this spending time together, sneaking around at night, and lying to her brother about what we’re doing sure feels like more than friendship.

June might break my heart. Her brother might break my nose.

But I guess some things were made to be broken.

He says nothing, just gently kisses the top of my head, and I listen to his silence like I’ve learned to do. In it, he says everything.

Okay. First of all, who is that cover model? Second of all, whoever is making these covers needs to get a pay rise because I’ve never seen such accurate depictions of book characters before! I’ve been looking forward to Levi’s story ever since he took in a stray dog and accidentally called June “ma’am” when he got all flustered around her. And let me tell you, this book did not disappoint! Roxie Noir is such a fantastic storyteller, I always find it so hard to peel my eyes away from her stories to do whatever it is adults are supposed to be doing.

Plot:

When June Flynn (29) gets fired from her job as a journalist and dumped by her boyfriend on the same day, she returns to her hometown for a few months to do some job hunting. When she is trapped in her car during a heavy storm, she is saved by Forest Ranger and Chief Arborist, Levi Loveless (32) who just so happens to be her brother’s childhood best friend…

The sexual tension between them is off the charts but they’re completely off limits to each other. Meanwhile, somebody is cutting down “Levi’s trees” and with June’s investigation skills, they band together to find the tree murderer. Will they give in to the sparks and the attraction at the cost of betraying her brother and his best friend?

Characters

One thing I love about this author, is her ability to write real and flawed characters. Characters you want to root for and characters you whole-heartedly believe in. Violet and Eli from Enemies With Benefits as well as Charlie and Daniel from Best Fake Fiancé were such well written leads, June and Levi are no different her.

June was such a lovable and relatable heroine. She was so career driven and incredibly intelligent. I loved that she was also a bit quirky and had a wealth of random knowledge due to her Wikipedia deep dives. She’s definitely the type of heroine I wouldn’t mind being friends with.

I’m not a people person. Given the choice, I prefer solitude. I prefer quiet. Large groups make me feel claustrophobic, like there’s no space in my head for my own thoughts when I’m constantly listening to everyone else’s.

Levi is the eldest Loveless brother and the black sheep of the family. I think out of all the brothers so far, he’s been the easiest to fall in love with. It might also be due to the fact that I can't resist introverted guys with beards and man buns. Levi was definitely a bit of an oddball, but he was just so precious! And he gets bonus points for being a bookworm too.

…Silas is a pure soul. He loves his family. He loves his sister. He loves his country, despite its faults, and everything he does and everything he’s ever done has been because he truly believes that he can make the word a little better.

I really liked Levi’s best friend and June’s older brother, Silas. The bromance between Levi and Silas was so wholesome and sweet, I can’t remember the last time I read such an amazing friendship! It was honestly so heart-warming, I almost teared up. Up until this book, Silas had been the fun friend and dotting brother, but I loved that we got to see behind his façade. I was not expecting the depths of his suffering and how he was battling some demons. I honestly wish him the happiness he deserves!

Of course, I can’t forget to mention the awesome family dynamic of the Loveless brothers. They just bring so much energy and fun to the story. The scene when they were at their mum’s house cutting wood, shirts off and all, was the ultimate fan service. Thank you Roxie Noir.

The Romance

June is a bridge I cannot cross, a road I cannot drive down. I can’t betray Silas like that. Now when he’s the most loyal, brave human I’ve ever come across, ever since the day we met in first grade because he beat up the third grader who stole my lunch.

Normally I like to roll my eyes at the best friend’s sister/brother’s best friend trope because I find the whole forbidden aspect rather unbelievable and/or tedious but that was not the case here at all. I really appreciate the fact that the author took the time to develop Silas’s character because it made June and Levi’s predicament all the more believable. There was tension and strain where it was needed and I think that added to the forbidden quality of June and Levi’s secret relationship. I could sympathise with their guilt because I also didn’t want Silas to be betrayed by his loved ones. All in all, I think this book handled the trope really well!

June and Levi were no doubt a match made in heaven. Their relationship at the beginning had the perfect amount of yearning and sexual tension and their romance was absolutely freaking adorable! June’s sassiness and Levi’s dry sense of humour complimented each other perfectly. Although this installment was definitely not as steamy as the previous books, it was still very hot! I was literally screaming on the inside when Levi was treating the poison ivy wounds on June's back.

I also love how Levi came out of his shell when he was around June. I swooned when he showed up at June’s house in the middle of the night, throwing pebbles at her window. And when he kept a French press at his house just for her even though he didn’t drink coffee. Levi is perfect husband material!

Other thoughts

The mystery plot line regarding the tree murders didn’t really capture my attention, but I enjoyed how it brought Levi and June together, and how their conversations would turn into random tangents and lots of flirting!

At this point, I can’t decide if I love Levi or Eli more. I also don’t know why I’ve been contemplating this question like my life depends on it. Either way, I know I love these brothers. It’s also been confirmed that Silas is getting his own book, which I’m super excited for! Overall, Break the Rules was an incredibly sweet and charming read, I highly recommend this book but it's better if you start from book one!

I am totally in love with the Loveless brothers and with each new book, it’s that particular brother that I love the most. This time it’s Levi and holy heck! He’s absolutely perfect!

When June returns home after being laid off from her job, she’s ready to reinvent herself. The first thing on her list is to fall in love with nature. Of course, that’s not working out so well for her, and when her girlhood crush arrives to rescue her she’s wishing she was anywhere but there.

description

I loved June and her quirky wikipedia facts, her ability to hold her own against a brother that teasingly torments her, and the way she manipulates Levi into allowing her to help him on a case. She’s fun and fiesty with a heart of gold but she is so lost as she tries to find employment in her chosen field. Her emotions shine through and I adored her from the very first page.

description

Levi was perfect in every way for June. When he finds himself seriously attracted to her he fights it as long as he can. She’s his best friend’s little sister. I loved that he made a conscious decision to make a move and let her know that he wanted to take what they had to the next level. So many times there is no actual decision, just action in the heat of the moment. That action made Levi even more special in my eyes.

description

I’m not a huge fan of the best friend’s little sister trope but the way this author wrote the friendship between Levi and Silas made me wish all the previous books I’ve read with this storyline had put that much thought into the friendship. What Levi and Silas had was something so special and beautiful I got choked up by it. And it was that unique friendship that made me love Levi so much and also accept that he could never put what he had with Silas in jeopardy.

description

This has so many fun moments, lots of one liners and great upmanship from siblings that I found myself laughing out loud. The steam level is intense and the closer this couple grow the steamier it became. And holy apple doughnuts, there is one scene where I think I actually drooled and my eyes just about dried from refusing to blink while reading it. Hot doesn’t even describe it because along with the heat was a swirling morass of emotion that took the scene to a whole new level.

Ms. Noir raised the bar to untold heights with this one as the humor, steam and believable emotions grabbed me and refused to let me go.

Favorite Quotes:

Levi is a mystery wrapped in an enigma stuffed into a crate labeled puzzle, and I don’t think he likes me.

There are reasons besides loyalty and friendship that June is a bad idea for me. Reasons like Silas has extensive combat training and Silas is not a reasonable human being when it comes to his little sister.

“June, there’s a bottle of your father’s pizzazz sauce on the door if you’d like some for the chili,” my mom says. “And I think there’s still some of his butt burner if you want to go ahead and use that up.” I make a face, because your father’s pizzazz sauce is a phrase I could happily go a lifetime without hearing, and that goes double for your father’s butt burner. He’s turned to making hot sauces in his retirement, because everyone needs a hobby…

“It’s not hoarding if it’s books,” Charlie says. “Then it’s knowledge collection, and that makes you fancy.”

“There are animals who won’t breed in captivity,” he says. “Is that why you’re not married?”

“Give me more advice, please,” I say. “Fart before you go into the interview room,” he says instantly. “Don’t hold it in, because then you’ll end up gassing everyone in there, and they’ll know it was you, and you will not get hired at that job. You will not.”

“Who is this?” I demand…”You’re being nice and my brother Silas once held me down and farted into my mouth, so you’re obviously an imposter,” I say.

My Review:

I barked with laughter and giggle-snorted repeatedly while reading this delightfully clever tale. This was my first experience reading the feisty and talented Roxie Noir but I plan to be hitting her page like a binge dieter at the all-you-can-eat buffet on cheat days.

I was euphoric over this adorable couple and well enamored with most of the secondary characters as well; they were smart, sweet-natured, witty, well suited, funny, sexy, and thoughtful and kind with each other. Levi and June’s harmonious relationship was gentle, supportive, and considerate, as well as atomically sensual and gasp ~ hot enough to melt my Kindle.

Swoon, Levi is my forever BBF. The storylines and writing style were highly amusing, unfailingly engaging, fun, lively, easy to follow, and laden with sharp wit and comical observations. I have a new favorite author to fangirl, I need more of her stellar arrangements of words in my life.

I think I am falling harder for this series with each new book. I just really love small town settings and big families. I love all their interactions and Rusty almost always steal the scenes when she's in it. She's such a cute kid with sass.

Levi is not anything like my favorite type of hero but I loved him like he was. I don't know how anyone can't love him. He just has that calm, gentlemanly trait about him. I'm not sure if I am even describing him right, I just think he will be universally liked. He's the kind of guy that most woman wish they could meet.

I was a little concerned with the best friends little sister trope only because that usually means a lot of pushing away. There was some resistance but even with that resistance, we get good quality couple time. I also just enjoyed these two together even if it was just friends at first.

Break the Rules was just an enjoyable read, about an enjoyable couple, in an enjoyable setting. I can see this being a favorite re-read. of mine.

The characters are the focus in Break the Rules and while Levi (H) and June (h) are likable, sweet, and relatable, I felt like the majority of their story dragged. June's unemployed and coming off a breakup so she's moved back in with her parents in her small town. She's always had a crush on her brother's best friend, Levi, and these two slowly spend more time together and explore their attraction. The story is told in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama, neither are virgins, unsure how long it had been for each but I loved that H wasn't a manwhore, bc is discussed/used.

The angst over hiding their budding relationship from Silas (the brother) was really well done because Ms. Noir showed each of their relationships with Silas in a great way. Levi is also trying to solve a mystery happening at work (he's a forest ranger) and June's help was a natural way for them to bond. The mystery was intriguing to me as a history buff but it's also a low stakes mystery with no real suspense/danger. But these two are sweet together as they investigate. We also have some angst/concern over where June will eventually find work and this becomes a major conflict later.

I think the story may have dragged for me somewhat because the tension between them in the early parts of the book is involving Silas, whereas the tension that comes into play later is about their actual romance. There was a marked difference for me between the two halves of the story. One of the aspects of book 1 in this series that I loved was the relationship and banter between the Loveless brothers and we do get this a bit in the first half of the book, but I didn't really see that same engaging relationship until the latter part of the story. The steamy scenes were also better in the second half of the book, although some of that comes from the relationship conflict that peaks later.

Overall, the ending was strong and there's a nice HFN with an epilogue a few months out. There's a sneak peek into the next book, a student/professor story, and I am curious about that one, which likely has more consistent tension.

I was hesitant to read this one because the blurb wasn't al that intriguing but I do enjoy the best friends little sister trope. But in the end, it was just kinda ho-hum. At 63% I started skimming. Still going to count it as read, though.

I didn't really connect to June and that was before I knew she had booty calls and drunken hook-ups. Ew. Anyway, to each their own but she was just such a blah heroine.

Even though I've read all these to get to the 4th one, the next book, I may read something else in between to give me a pick me up or a boost.

I enjoy this author's writing (even if she is a bit tell and not show) but this one was just kinda dull.

I really enjoyed this third entry in the Loveless series, as I had been eagerly awaiting Levi’s story.

June is a journalist who lost her job and her boyfriend all in the same day, and comes back home to regroup. She’s following the path laid out for her profession but she’s struggling to reinvent herself. First step - enjoy nature. Harder than it sounds, to be honest. Levi helps her out of a jam, one thing leads to another and yep, romance happens.

Their Firsts are well done, the tension builds between them believably and overall I was happy with the progression of their romance. This is a best friend’s sister trope, so much of their internal struggle comes from the possibility of disappointing or angering Levi’s best friend, Silas. The obstacle itself, stretched thin after a while, but as a trope, it really did need a bit more to shore up the potential for angst, which is why I was happy that it isn’t completely dependent on their hiding things from Silas. June’s employment struggles rang true, and her needing to figure out her life first had potential, I just wish the story had delved into it a wee bit more throughout, instead of mostly towards the end. There’s a secondary plot involving mysterious tree vandalism that was cute, but pacing was a little off.

I have a real soft spot for the quiet, awkward heroes. Strong and capable, but they’re never going to be the ones who want that spotlight on them. Levi’s sweetly supportive, smart and self-contained but when he starts to reveal his feelings for June...big happy sighs. If anything, I wished Levi had confronted his concerns about his best friend earlier as well.

Overall, the thing that’s kept me coming back to this series is the Loveless family, and I do enjoy the relationships between the brothers. I think the family/friend scenes balance out the romance nicely and will keep me coming back for more. If you like small town romances with the best friend’s sister trope, you may want to set a spell and enjoy this.

This book was a treat! It is a feel-good romance that will have you laughing out loud, shaking your head in disbelief with humor and have you craving more and more.

I'm still fairly new to Roxie Noir, so I went into this book open-minded, I have heard nothing but raving reviews about her work and had read a book of hers not long ago, so I jumped at the opportunity to read and review and I'm so glad I did. There's nothing quite like a steamy, fun, feel-good kind of romance and Break the Rules was just that.

I found myself grinning like an idiot throughout the book and Levi and June.

Levi is the oldest of five brothers, he's classed as the loner type and has become a ranger out in a park that is away from basically everyone and everything. He lives a life of solitude and being part of such a big family. He now needs things to be very much placed out the way he wants them. He lives a life of solitude, but he likes it like that.
That was until he had to rescue June who is his best friend, little sister. He certainly doesn't look at her as a little sister or his best friend's little sister.

June's longed for Levi for so long now, she can't remember a time she hadn't, but being her brother's best friend, he was always out of her reach, off-limits. She always saw him as reserved, quiet... A loner really, which had her even more intrigued about him, and what made him even more appealing... But no less forbidden.

A storm hits and has left June in a situation where she needs Levi to rescue her, they are left with a mystery to solves and June jumps right up at the idea and it gives her an even better excuse to spend time with him and he spends time with her. Will these two see the connection and attraction they have for each other? Is it real? And if they give in to their desires where will it leave them?

I loved this read. I was grinning, laughing, crying from laughing and it just felt amazing to experience it. This author calling is fun rom-com with heat. Pure perfection!

I have read the other two books in the Loveless Brothers series and have been looking forward to Levi and June's story ever since her character was introduced in Best Fake Fiance. Well I can say that Break the Rules was 5 fantastic stars! Levi is the quiet, thoughtful, oldest Loveless and we finally get to know what is going on in that handsome head of his. June has been a part of his life since he was 6 years old. June's brother Silas is Levi's best friend and if there is one thing Levi values is his family and friends. He has always known that June was beautiful but he put her safely in the "friend" zone so that he would never overstep and risk upsetting his best friend because if there's one thing that Silas is protective of it's his little sister (even though she's 29)! June is back in her hometown because she recently lost her job with a newspaper and her boyfriend broke up with her the same day. She's home to search for a new job but most importantly she's searching her inner self to see why she has been dissatisfied with her life and where she would like it to go next. Levi and June are great together. They start off working on a mystery regarding Levi's job within the forestry department but the more time that they spend together, the more the lines get blurred. If you haven't read the other books in the series Break the Rules stands alone however to get the most out of the Loveless Brothers and their family and friends, I recommend reading from the beginning. This book is full of laughs, lust, a bit of mystery and a bearskin rug named Jebediah! It is told from dual POV and I cannot wait to see which brother's story is coming next!

I am in love with the Loveless brothers, but here is something about Levi. I have been dying for his book because he is a mystery and I just needed to know more. Break the Rules exceeded all my expectations and then some. Not only am I absolutely in love with Levi, hello book boyfriend material, but I loved June and their story.

I just need to talk about Levi and Silas, who is June’s older brother and Levi’s best friend. Their friendship was different and unique and hands down one of the truest relationships I have ever read. The way they support each other and help each other is beyond anything. Which is why it is so difficult for Levi to be crushing on his best friends little sister.

I loved the chemistry that Levi and June had throughout the story. They were honestly perfect for each other, even when they were fighting their attraction to one another. They bring out different sides to each other in ways that no one else has.

The Loveless sibling banter is also present throughout the story and provides so many much needed laughs. You really can’t help but love this entire family.

Whether you’ve read the previous books or not, Break the Rules is a MUST READ and it’ll have you going back to checking out the previous too books.

Break the Rules is, in my opinion, the funniest yet in the Loveless series. I cracked up at one point so loud my husband had to ask what was up. And that cover is yum.

Levi is such a genuine, don't hold back dude. The only reason he hesitates on anything is fear of getting his heart broken or losing someone he cares for. June is smart and determined and they are such a good match. I will say though that her brother is even more entertaining and I hope he gets a book. He deserves one.

Anywho, I had trouble putting this down, and it was one of those stories that make you smile a lot.

I have been sick all week so it has been all romance all the time. I just don't have it in me to read things that require work right now. This was a step up in complexity since I read rather than listened, but still, this was calorie-free comfort food from start to finish.

This is my third book in the Loveless Brothers series, and every one if them is a joy. All of the brothers show up for cameos here, but the book is less focused on the family dynamic than the others, and the guys' mother, Clara, is totally absent. That bummed me out at the beginning because I love their relationships, they are funny and sarcastic and smart and loving and supportive (well, that comes with snark sometimes, but it is still there.) It turned out though that I did not miss it. I really liked the relationship between June and Levi and between Levi and June's brother Silas (which is an important part of the story.) I think Roxie went a little overboard with Silas's murderous impulses toward anyone June dated, it started to feel not just toxic but a little repressed Flowers in the Attic, but otherwise it was so fun to read.

I have to note that a climactic scene happens in a small town in South Dakota. Everything is flat and cold and treeless and there is no Chinese food. The workplace is filled with passive-aggressive (and some aggressive-aggressive) staff and leadership who insulate them because they are "nice guys" or fellow Sons of Norway members, or are married to their uncle's third-cousin by marriage (and also, it is not like there is a real talent pool to replace anyone.) I had such a strong stress flashback to leading a team of incompetents in the other Dakota that I was worried it would trigger a migraine. (I had one great person on my staff and everyone hated her. There are no rewards for pushing through.) Could Roxie have done a stint in the Dakotas? If not, she has some reliable people giving her the real tea. (She did know that to get to the Dakotas from the Carolinas you have to fly through Dallas, so I get the feeling she has lived that.)

This book was just 🤌💕
His gestures spoke loud and clear but always had that fear of heartbreak. She loved him get entire life, but it was supposed to be temporary. Ugh, my heart 😭
I couldn't get enough of these characters. June was such a fun, bubbly, and emotional character. Levi seemed to have a cold heart, but he was such a softie. Especially for her. And the spice was full of chemistry
My favorite aspect is the family, even though we didn't see it much in this book

June's back home trying to love nature. So it makes sense that her brother's best friend, Levi, a forest ranger, is the one who rescues her when she needs it. Too bad for June that her crush on Levi has long been unrequited. But perhaps no longer unrequited because Levi's finding himself with feelings decidedly unbrotherly. And that's a problem because his best friend IS June's brother, and the man Levi considers his brother, too. He just knows Silas will not be cool with him being with his baby sister, as Silas is known for scaring off any of June's love interests, whether June wants him to or not.

I loved Levi and June! They're so freaking adorable together. Levi with his kind, compassionate heart and simple life working with trees, and June with her quirky sort of lost self who is the only one who stands up to her overprotective big brother. But lest I make you think they're all sweetness and light and no sizzle, have no fear because they are seriously hot together, too! I loved Daniel in the previous story, Best Fake Fiance, but I love Levi and June even more. Their story is downright amazing. These Loveless Brothers and the women who love them are perfect!

more like 3.5 stars, but i’m feeling generous, so i’ll round it up :)

i normally mostly read romance involving the good old enemies-to-lovers trope — it really is my drug. so there was no way i’d end up liking it more than Violet and Eli’s story. i’m also not very inclined to the overprotective-brother and/or parents trope because it grates on my nerves in an alarming way, so i was just the slightest bit apprehensive about starting this.

but i really liked it!! a lot!!

Levi has the type of characteristics we usually don’t see in male characters as much as female ones — he’s the quiet one, the bookworm, the one that prefers being alone and the outdoors, etc. June is the ambitious one, brave yet vulnerable and the two of them make so much sense as a couple. believable romance — always a plus!!

i also REALLY loved June’s character arc — she’s laid off from her job and is struggling to find another and it’s definitely not easy in the slightest bit. it was so very relatable, and i liked that it discussed feeling vulnerable and afloat without your job; without your purpose. i’m barely an adult and i already feel overwhelmed by life, so it was nice to see and actual adult who also felt overwhelmed by life but slowly learns that dreams, passion and priorities change over time.

the secondary characters, as always, were a blessing. and i love how in each book Rosie kinda cultivates the base for the sequel (i feel like it might be Seth, i could be wrong tho? are there even others books?) it feels very seamless and neat and i love that.

all in all: great character arcs, witty dialogue and the cutest romance.

Levi Loveless is hands down the sexiest and my most favorite Loveless! Levi and June had me rolling the whole book! Their story from start to finish is full of so much love, humor and shows how the bonds of “family” is everything!! And Levi makes following the rules look sooo good especially when he decides to break them!

I absolutely loved seeing all the loveless’ again! Their bickering and constant nosiness makes for the most amazing family! I love how these brothers are there for each other and the ones they love!

June is definitely one of my fave Noir heroines! She is quirky and though we meet her at a vulnerable time she proves to be very confident and definitely someone you don’t say no to when she’s made up her mind, and Levi is her perfect match! He is the calm to her storm! She brings him out of his cave and shows him just how beautiful the world is and together they do more than they ever can apart!

With the power lines across her car and a tree fallen across the road in front of her, the last person June wanted to have save her is her brother's best friend. The same best friend she has had a crush on since she was a little girl. But little does she know that Levi has been fighting those same feelings for her. Add in a home nestled in the picturesque woods and sparks flying from more than just downed power lines and you get a heart warming tale of finding love when you least expect it. But what happens when an out of state job takes June far away? And what will June's brother think of this new romance? With beautifully written characters and a storyline that I could not put down I am now in love with the Loveless Brothers. I now need to go a read the rest of the series ASAP.

FINALLY. I an done with this book.

Was it good, was it bad, I don't know 😅 but it took me 63 years to read it, my guess is it wasn't riveting 💁‍♀️

The best Loveless story yet
5 stars

This is the third book in the Loveless Brothers Series (after Enemies With Benefits and Best Fake Fiance) and oh my stars, they just keep getting better and better. If you’ve been reading the series in order, you’ll be as excited as I was to read more about quiet and serious Levi meeting his match. If you’re new to the series you can read and enjoy this book as a standalone - but trust me, you’re going to want to put aside a few hours as you go back and binge on the first two books once you’ve finished with this one.

This is the story about eldest brother, Levi and the girl he’s had a crush on for a long time, June. The main problem being that June happens to be Levi’s best friend, Silas’s, little sister. And Levi and Silas aren’t just best friends - they have a bond that is so deep and so special; I admit to getting a wee bit teary at times when they interacted with each other. So there’s that barrier there that neither really wants to cross. Buuuuut, of course they cross it. Big time! Yay for us readers!

Levi and June were everything in this book. They fit together in a way that I believed with my whole heart. They way they were different from each other - Levi’s a quiet, serious, loner type while June is exuberant and throws herself full force into everything she does - they brought something special out in each other. Watching them open up and show every part of themselves to each other - being honest and vulnerable - it got me right in the feels. More tears. Happy tears, obviously.

And with that connection comes some deliciously lovely sex. And with characters that have such chemistry it’s always going to be good. Very, very good.

If that wasn’t enough for you, this book is also filled with what I’ve come to expect from Ms Noir - her famous brand of humour. She startles a laugh out of me at the most unexpected moments in the book. Then there’s also whole passages/pages - usually when the Loveless brothers are teasing and ribbing each other - when we’re treated to almost non-stop hilarious banter.

I’ve read other connected books where you feel hit over the head with the author’s desperate need to get her previous (and future) characters included in the current story. Not so with this tale. Don’t get me wrong - the people we’ve met from the first couple of books in the series are there - but they don’t overshadow and don’t ever hog the limelight. And we get to know more of characters that I very much hope will be getting their own books - but again it’s done with subtlety as this book is about June and Levi.

With that said, I loved Silas in the first book when he stole a golf-cart and magicked up some night-vision goggles. He’s no less goofy in this book - but he also gets more depth and I love him even more. He’s not a Loveless, but I hope he finds the girl who’ll mess him up before settling him down.

I’m relatively late in finding Roxie Noir and I keep kicking myself that I didn’t find her earlier. Her books are such a delight - giving you a dazzling mix of pulse thundering feels, laugh out loud moments, dirty sex and forever love. She also writes that tight bond of friends and family better than almost anyone. I want to live in Sprucevale; I want this group as my friends and family.

Back to this particular book…I loved it. I loved everything about it. It’s definitely a contender for one of my best reads of 2019 and it cements Roxie Noir as a new favourite author. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could!

Light, funny and a slow burn that turns scorching

Something about Roxie Noir’s writing style just WORKS for me, because it’s so easy to get drawn into her books. It took me a little while to warm up to our hero - Levi is a quiet, reserved, slightly odd guy and his interactions reflect that - but once I got to know him better, it was much easier to feel the chemistry. It’s a light, funny book with a slow burn that gets smoking hot and a relationship that has such great depth. If you like best friend’s little sister stories, this is a solid, feel-good book.

The story follows June, a journalist whose life has started to fall apart recently. She got laid off, dumped, moved back in with her parents, can’t seem to find a new job no matter how many applications she fills out... and gets trapped in her car during a storm. When Levi, her brother’s best friend and a reserved, somewhat reclusive mountain man, rescues her, it stirs up the crush she harbored for him in her teens. Levi is loyal to a fault, and entirely unwilling to ruin a lifelong friendship by crossing a line... but June certainly isn’t making things easy. As they begin to see each other more frequently, it becomes impossible to deny that there’s something there worth pursuing - despite all of the obstacles in their path.

I really loved that Levi wasn’t the typical alpha hero (though he definitely shows that side of himself in the bedroom). He’s reserved, lives in isolation, doesn’t sleep around, and is just generally a bit different than most guys. That’s perhaps why it took a little longer for him to win me over - while I loved the writing at the start of the book, I didn’t immediately feel the chemistry but that all changed over the course of the story. It’s a slow burn that gets scorching later on, and there’s an undercurrent of love and respect throughout the whole thing. These are two people who have known each other for much of their lives, but never spent enough time together to truly get to know the finer details. I’m really hoping we get a book about June’s brother, Silas, because the whole thing was handled perfectly and just made me want to learn more about him. There isn’t a ton of angst, and the book has a light, funny vibe that will put a smile on your face. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout (then purchased it for my collection) and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Break the Rules is a complete feel good book!! I was laughing, sighing, blushing, drawn into the mystery they were trying to solve, and felt like I got my exercise while hiking through the woods with Levi and June. This is the first Roxie Noir book I've ever read and it will not be the last. I absolutely loved it!

Break the Rules is the third book in the Loveless Brothers series, but I was able to jump right into this series without missing a thing. (Although I want to go back and read the first ones just because I thoroughly enjoyed Roxie's writing and the Loveless brothers are hilarious, if this still gives you any indication on how much I enjoyed this book.)

Levi Loveless is the oldest brother out of five (what a loud, messy house hold that must have been to grow up in). There is nothing better than the solitude of the forest and organization within his own home now that Levi enjoys. That is until he ends up rescuing June, his best friends little sister that he does not have sisterly feelings for one...little...bit. She turns his quiet life upside down and it turns out he doesn't seem to mind when it comes to her. Although Levi is hesitant to get involved knowing she isn't going to stay, but he also can't seem to stay away and eventually he decides not to.

June has had a crush on Levi for as long as she can remember. He was always the quietest and most reserved of his brothers, but that was something she actually found the most appealing about him. When Levi rescues her during a major storm, which after talking leads them down a road to solve a mystery...together...June jumps on the case. She not only wants any reason to spend more time with Levi, but she also loves solving a mystery. June wants to spend every moment with Levi while she's still in town and if solving a mystery is the way to do it she will. But the prospect of leaving becomes harder and harder the longer she spends with him.

Together these two are a perfect team, but there is an expiration date looming between them. June never promised to stay, but the longer she spends with Levi, the more she wants to stay. How do you change the rules during the middle of the game?

Break the Rules is packed with so much goodness and funny moments, you will love this book!

This was the first story that I have read by Roxie Noir and it definitely won’t be my last. Beautifully written with a storyline that was interesting, complicated, as well as entertaining. It was sweet, heartwarming, funny, emotional and filled with sizzling heat, that was deliciously sensual. The characters are fabulously crafted and their relationship gloriously complicated. But the best part was that it was one of my favorite romance tropes, best friends’ little sister.

When Levi rescues June during a dangerous storm and becomes stranded with him overnight, he tells her about a new mystery in the National Forest where he works as a arborist. Wanting more time with Levi, the next morning June looks into the mysterious tree situation and comes up with a theory. With June unemployed, she soon has Levi letting her secretly help him with old logging records of the National Forest. But with all their time together on this project, and against their better judgement, they simply can’t resist their attraction. And let me tell you that they are pure, sizzling, molten, heat together.

I enjoyed every second of Levi and June’s story. They were such endearing characters, real characters, as they battle their sizzling attraction to each other because of June’s brother Silas, and the close bond that is between Levi and Silas. I also liked Levi’s family a lot, there was such a fun dynamic there. I liked the siblings teasing each other as well as their closeness and Sunday dinner gatherings. It was a really good cast of characters and I am looking forward to getting to know all of the Loveless brothers. So what happens? You are going to have to read this to find out. Believe me you definitely don’t want to miss this!

I was gifted with a early copy from the publisher in exchange for a honest review.

I’ll be honest. I’ve been waiting for Levi’s book since the very first. There is just something about the strong, silent type that intrigues me. Levi did not disappoint. His character appears on the surface to be very clear cut, but the depth of this man was profound. He’s the oldest Loveless brother, but has the least amount of experience with women. He doesn’t form attachments easily. He refuses to name the stray dog he took in because he’s subconsciously afraid the original owner will eventually come to claim her and he’ll be left alone again. Levi uses this same logic in his resistance to forming an attachment to June, his lifelong best friend’s younger sister. June is back home for the first time in ten years due to some drama in her life, but makes it clear she is on the hunt for a job and a life somewhere else. June quickly becomes the sun in Levi’s sky as he slowly begins to revolve around her until he simply can no longer resist her pull. He caves in the sexiest and sweetest way. The same can also be said of June. Of the Loveless books released so far, Levi and June are my favorite couple, followed pretty closely by Eli and Violet from book one. I honestly don’t know how Ms. Noir is going to top Levi’s story with either Seth or Caleb’s (or eventually Silas hopefully too, please, please!…) but I look forward to her efforts to do so! This one was very easy to allocate 5 stars too, and I will definitely be adding to my re-read pile. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book for the author.

I think this was the best Loveless brothers book so far. This is the story of the oldest brother Levi who is portrayed as a loner, preferring the forest and nature to modern conveniences. It is also the story of June, a 29 year old who lives with her parents and acts and seems more like she is 22 than 29. This relationship with Levi forces her to grow up and take responsibility for her life. Before her relationship with Levi, she is “Junebug” the kid sister of Silas who is Levi’s best friend, she lives at home with her parents and has to account for her movements and is unemployed as she lost her job so does not support herself. Levi is reluctant to get involved with someone who may leave at any time to pursue a job anywhere in the U.S. and he is worried Silas will be mad although she is an adult. Their relationship grows as they have a lot of chemistry and she grows up and he realizes what is really important. I enjoyed the book due first to following their relationship and secondly due to them solving the mystery of the cutting down of old big trees in the forest. The mystery was interesting and added to the book’s appeal.

I am so in love with everything about this. I've wanted Levi's book since the first Loveless brother book. There's just something about the quiet, unassuming serious Levi that I had to know more about. And there's a bit. He's not as quiet as he seems. He has a side to him. I liked him before. After this book I am in LOVE!!

I love June and who she is. She's fun, outgoing, not a fan of nature, and someone who totally knows what she wants. And, what she's always wanted was Levi Loveless. Only problem is, Levi is her older brothers best friend so she's always been untouchable. And speaking Silas, we see a whole other side of him in this book. He's not just the fun loving friend who's always down for shenanigans. He has his own demons. He's not a Loveless brother, but I'm hoping he gets his own book. He needs one.

Levi and June are so different but couldn't be more perfect for each other. She brings out his fun adventurous side, and he calms who she is and grounds her. Their relationship is far from easy though with all of the obstacles they face. But it is worth it.

Spoken In: Dual POV
Rating: 5 Stars ⭐️

Break the Rules is the third full novel in Roxie Noir's Loveless Brothers series. Although it can totally be read as a standalone I would recommend reading in order to get the full experience of all the Loveless brothers, family and friends as they make reappearance's in this book.

I'm a complete sucker for the older brothers best friend/bests friends little sister tropes they are my weakness and this was one of them. We get Levi the oldest Loveless brother and June in this story and I absolutely LOVED them. Levi was just downright swoony and June was a blast. These two try to fight their attraction for one another but with chemistry like they have it was on! Whats going to happen when Silas the brother/best friend finds out?

I really enjoyed this book and I loved seeing all the family and friends together again. I can't wait for the next Loveless brothers story. Whose it gonna be?

I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review, but it just meant I got to read (and review) it a little sooner. Levi has been my favorite Loveless brother since Enemies with Benefits, and there was no way I wouldn't have snatched up his book as soon as I could!

June Flynn's favorite Loveless is also Levi. When the other girls at school were fighting over charming Seth and brilliant Caleb, June just wanted the one her over-protective brother Silas would definitely never let her have: his best friend, Levi. Quiet, bookish, kind Levi who rescued her stuffies from high places and made her smile.

Levi has a simple life. He works with trees, built his own house, and has a close, loving family. His best friend Silas is as close as another brother. Then Silas's sister moves home after being fired and dumped and suddenly nothing is simple.

This book has everything: nameless dogs, tree murder, true love, miracles. Ok, maybe not miracles, but it does have hot sex, cool weird facts, and a sweet HEA. Grab a copy ASAP!
