descriptionI must say that this author is quickly making her way to a "must read" spot on my favorite author list. This is the second book of hers I have read and both have been smokin' hot and fantastic reads.

description

So onto to the details. I found this one to be well written and well paced. It's a relatively short book page wise, but I felt the author did a good job of fleshing out the plot and characters. Do I wish it had been longer? Of course, I was enjoying these characters immensely and I think it would have made an excellent full length book. Nonetheless, the plot was engaging and kept me turning the pages. The sex scenes were hot and plentiful. There is quite a bit of dub-consent in this one, so do be aware of that. There really wasn't any angst and there was no OW/OM drama. Neither characters sexual past is really mentioned so I don't know if either had been with others after their one night stand. The heroine dated another man, but it is never mentioned if she slept with him. There is only one secondary character (if you can call him that) that plays a minor role. Still, it was enough to get yours truly intrigued and I wouldn't mind reading a book about Stephen.

description

I LOVED both the main characters in this one. They reminded me a bit of the couple in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Mira (Mirage) was a badass thief. She was feisty and sassy. She gave as good as she got but she was no match for Paine (Pain) or his discipline. Paine (Pain) was sexy as f-ck. Alpha. Badass. Knew his way around a belt and used it often. What else can I say? I loved these two together SO much. I would read an entire series just devoted to these two traveling the world and thieving together. *lol* Last, it was all wrapped up in a good (not great) ending. I would have liked to have seen further in the future for this couple, but hey, maybe the author will read this review and grant my wish for an entire series featuring them. A girl can dream...two HUGE thumbs up from yours truly.description

ARC-Review
Release Date- 23/1/18
So Zoe Blake is fast becoming one of my favourite go-to authors, I really haven't found anything of hers yet I actually dislike and it's safe to say Dark Deception is no different.
It was so easy to get lost in this fast-paced Thriller.
So Dark Deception tells the story of two Professional thieves.
Mirage and Paine both work for the syndicate, filling their pockets as well as there own coffers with there ill gotten gains.
After Paine, under orders from the syndicate. takes out Mirage's lover she makes it her life's mission to make him pay for this act.
first through destroying his reputation and then when no other option presents itself and though not usually a killer, taking his life.
But the best-laid plan's don't always pan out and as events implode Paine and Miri find themselves teaming up as they try to stay one step ahead of there enemies.
Staying alive is now their new directive and as the walls start closing in the two become steadily closer.
Dark Deception as you can expect is super hot.
Miri and Paine's sexual chemistry jumps off the page and the banter between the two had me chuckling along to myself.
These two are both extremely likeable individuals which in turn made this a super easy read.
The action here never lets up and this was one definite rollercoaster from start to finish.
I loved the fact that Paine and Mirage were both thieves and made no apologies for there profession, I found this to be extremely refreshing indeed.
I also should mention that Dark Deception is also full of Dubious consent throughout, but if you're familiar with Zoe Blake this should come as no surprise to you at all.
In fact, the heroine Mirage gets off on this sort of behaviour so in fact, you could argue that it's actually consensual.
They're both a real pair of sexual freaks loving and embracing the extreme.
There extremely compatible in every way just made for each other and I got to say I was rooting for them all the way.
I so desperately wanted them to have there HEA.
So that's about it folks.
This book is a fabulous read that I really enjoyed, hope you dig it as much as I did, enjoy folks.
I was provided with an ARC of Dark Deception By Zoe Blake of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

DNF at page 35!

When a woman says no! Its NO!!!
If she is screaming and kicking and screaming NO it's RAPE!!!
It's not rape only when both partners agree with some roleplay or kink and that was not the case in this book!!! TWICE!!! She was raped Twice!!!!

i don't understand how can anybody consider it ok and call it "romance"!

I don't recommend this book

Sooo... I'm not sure what to write about this book. I liked the story-line and the setting -Skilled thieves fall in love- BUT the steamy moments were at least awkward. It's the first time I've read something with this particular brand of kink and I can't say that I'm a fan.

Another dirty, filthy, dark read from Zoe Blake.

Dark Deception started out well; the beginning drew me in, and I held my breath, wondering what was going to happen next. Then...well...I was somewhat disappointed by all the moving parts that took me out of the story. There are bad guys, poor decisions, some cool break-ins and gear, and HAWT sex, but I wanted...more. As much as I enjoyed the story, I felt that it was missing something. Maybe some depth. The characters seemed to fall flat, like if they were on their own, they'd be one dimensional.

That said, I would recommend this story to readers who like a good bad guys are good guys story, with a lot of ass f**king.

MAKE YOUR CHOICES—LIFE WILL CHOOSE YOUR CONSEQUENCES

Wow! I don’t know how she does it, but Ms. Zoe Blake just keeps on upping her game and bringing us, her readers, amazing stories. I loved Dark Deception and its high octane scenes, passionate characters, and all the angst with erotic intensity. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. The story will take the reader on a roller-coaster ride into the world of thieves. Meet the players, Mirage and Paine, two people who both works for an organization known only as The Syndicate.

Paine: “A man of his skills was hard to find. A trained fighter, thief, and hacker. A criminal renaissance man.” Sometimes, in his line of work for The Syndicate, it includes taking out certain operatives, ones who may have crossed a line, as Dev has done. Now someone has trashed his name and reputation, sending out the word to the underground that he has switched sides and has gone rogue. “The Syndicate was beginning to doubt that Paine had betrayed them.”

Mirage: “He respected her for her skills, and he wanted her for her beauty. Like the thief he was, Paine appreciated something precious and rare; Mirage was both. She was simply stunning. Her petite frame matched her gamine, almost other-worldly features. Skin so pale it was almost translucent. Dark, obsidian eyes which matched her silky, black hair. Her lips dominated her delicate face, almost appearing too large and always painted a crimson red.”

“The Syndicate was rich beyond measure organization of criminals, politicians, and businessmen. A cross between the Knights Templar, the Skull, and Bones society and some evil Bond villain.”

Now that you know the players, understand the angst, Mirage is determined to take out Paine, and she has devised her plan of revenge. “It had all been perfect. The perfect setup. The perfect deception. The perfect revenge.” But even perfect sometimes has its downfall, and that is Paine when he thwarts her plan. Paine is a man who lives up to his name, and now he will exact his revenge. “He would find his bad little kitten and make her pay for all her misdeeds.”

The story is a cat and mouse game between Paine and Mirage, and while he punishes her for her actions, he also learns more about her. She fascinates him, and he is determined to own her as his. The sex between them is controlling and forceful. There isn’t a part of her he doesn’t master and claim.

“Sex with Paine had all the elements of a great heist. Anticipation, danger, tension, euphoria. She secretly loved how he bent her to his will, made her beg for the pleasure and pain. The only way she would or could be completely submissive was to a strong, dominating man like Paine who took that submission from her by force. She needed to focus on all the reasons why she hated him—on how much he angered her—not the reasons why she was falling in love with him.”

The story is life and risk, love and hate, talent and execution, pain and pleasure, give and take, raw, edgy, dark and dirty with two people who learn that there can be honor among thieves, you just have to find the right one. The story has explicit sex scenes with forced submission, unequal power exchange, and extremely sizzling hot sex between this pair. She thrives off of his dominance and control, and he knows exactly how to control her. For them, it will become a win-win dynamic.

Explosive chemistry, intense suspense and dark thrilling escapades!

This book right here is why I love dark romances. Zoe Blake encompasses all the shadows, darkness in this novel and there is no wonder why her brilliant talent shines through in her writing. Dark Deception is one intense ride with revenge seeking and scorching intimacy with two characters who are determined to be at each other's throats.

“I’m gonna make you pay.”

“It’s time she learned why they call him, Paine.”

Mirage, jewel thief turned assassin versus Paine Dawson, the dominant male who wants to teach her a thing or two on revenge; both come together in a thrilling, suspenseful, high impact journey. Malicious and unrelenting actions between Paine and Mirage which will leave you wanting more. Very similar to Mr. & Mrs. Smith drama, but so much better.

Paine is alpha, sexy and maybe a little sadistic with his possessive and protective nature. While Mirage is independent, self assured but when she is in Paine’s webbing, she is shown who’s boss. I loved these characters. I enjoyed the build up, the intensity between the two. The added suspense kept me reading and ignoring the hussle and bussle around me.

This is an addicting dark, suspense, drama filled romance that should be picked up immediately. Zoe Blake is one author everyone should look out for!

Title: Dark Deception
Author: Zoe Blake
Series: standalone
Genre: erotica
Heat: 2/5
Rating: 2/5

Background
I found a few teasers of this in a blogger e-mail and despite having a pretty full January, decided I had to add it to my reading schedule. I love dark, and I can be a big fan of erotica when the mood strikes.

Cover
It's a good image and nice colours, although I'm not a fan of the text and, having read the book, I don't think it's particularly relevant to the plot, either. It's pretty average, in my opinion, with nothing particularly extraordinary or striking.

Writing
It wasn't bad. There were too many sentence fragments and not enough vocative commas for my liking (and the odd typo, but I was reading an ARC so I have to trust these will be picked up before publication and they will not affect this review). I found the plot, although interesting and with a lot of potential, was rushed in favour of the erotica. There was no true suspense, and due to how short this manuscript was, nothing was developed at all. This was highly disappointing to me, as with a little more consideration, this could have been a highly original, erotic romp full of suspense, but instead, it fell flat. I mean, it was hardly dark, either. Yes, there was some dubious consent involved, but it was so light it can't be described as pushing boundaries. The most erotic sex scene was the first anal scene, which was done better and with more thought, in my opinion, than the others.

Characters
Again, a good foundation but severely lacking in development. Mirage was too quick to believe Paine about her relationship with Dev, too quick to accept it despite her claims of loving him (which led to the entire revenge plot to begin with...). Complete with insta-love and a too-alpha alpha, this just didn't do it for me and I found no depth to their relationship beyond a good sex life at all.

Conclusion
A disappointing romp with an original premise, which would have benefitted from more development and a longer manuscript.

Dark Deception by Zoe Blake is a "must read" –it is another delicious, dirty, dark read . This book is why I love dark romances- it has explosive chemistry, dark thrilling escapades , intense suspense and smoking hot passions. Zoe Blake writes the dark with a touch of light in her stories and it balances out perfectly. The story is as follows: Mirage, jewel thief turned assassin versus Paine Dawson, the dominant male who wants to teach her a thing or two on revenge. Paine has thought about Mirage everyday for the past two years, since he was sent to extract her from Turkey. The passion between them is electric yet Mirage harbors some not so kind feelings toward Paine after a misunderstanding. Some misunderstanding…she wants him dead. That’s ok, Paine is even more determined to claim her for himself- tame the kitten and make her his. Oh My! Mirage is a feisty , sassy bad girl while Paine is this dark alpha male who makes BDSM sound tame. He is super alpha to the extreme. Take their company that is now after them and this is two people who have to work out their differences while on the run…This is a dark and dirty read. I loved it and cant wait to read more from Ms. Blake.

My Rating: 4.6 stars *****

❤~🌟~❤3 SCINTILLATING STARS❤~🌟~❤

“Every time you run away…I will give chase, kitten. Every time .”

Zoe Blake excels at writing explosively sexy, dark romantic thrillers that grab hold of you and leave you riveted! I absolutely adored her last book, DADDY’S HOME, so to say I had high expectations for this new release, DARK DECEPTION, would be an understatement! And holy smokes was this one scorching hot and darkly delicious!!

Criminal extraordinaire Paine Darwin is the kind of primal, dominantly sexy anti hero that leaves you QUIVERING, and Miranda “Mirage” Foster a clever, vivacious, cunningly beautiful jewel thief with guts and resilience galore! Together these two were ELECTRIFYING!

However, to be frank, this was a hard book to rate because those attributes aside, I struggled to get through this book. For as much as I enjoyed the highly addictive writing and sizzling sex scenes, I have to say I was underwhelmed with the actual storyline. The enemies to lovers premise between two smart, dynamic thieves who wage warfare on each other had so much promise, but the plot was rushed, the romance and conflicts were underdeveloped and aside from some exciting ambushes and hot encounters, I feel it really lacked any real high stakes excitement or heart palpitating suspense. I mean the jewel heist /syndicate angle was cool and I absolutely loved the flashbacks of how Paine and Mira met and formed an instant connection during the heroine’s rescue in Istanbul, but it was just not enough to sustain a whole book in my opinion.

And although, as mentioned above, I was INTOXICATED by the high voltage chemistry and kinky hot encounters between the MCs, I struggled to invest emotionally in their romance. Between the heroine, Mira, double crossing and then setting out to kill her nemesis Paine and him retaliating by continuously forcing himself on her, I could not really connect with these characters. And even though it turned out that Mirage was turned on and craved a dominating man like Paine who took her submission by force, I also struggled with the non-consent aspect of this book because she kept saying “No.” In my book that crosses some mighty big hard limits. That said, it did not affect my rating because there were trigger warnings and this IS after all categorized as dark.

Another area of disappointment for me was the whole revenge plot. There really was not enough back-story on Mira’s relationship with Dev to justify her whole bloodthirsty vendetta against Paine for killing him, and it was stated many times that he did not light a candle to Paine in the seduction department so I never got Dev's appeal! Her reasoning for why she invested all her hopes on dreams on Dev just felt a bit weak in my opinion. And said revenge plot was dropped really fast after a quick explanation by Paine about what a scumbag Dev was. And while I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED how fiercely protective and territorial Paine was toward his “kitten,” I kept scratching my head as to why he was so devoted to a woman's who held him in such contempt and repeatedly tried to off him!

But, on the positive side, I will say I rooted for them a heck of a lot more in the second half when Mira stopped trying to assassinate him and they joined forces to save each other’s lives and gain the upper hand on their now mutual enemies! These two were UNSTOPPABLE once they put their brilliant minds together, and of course, the icing on the cake was them celebrating their sweet victories in the bedroom!

FINAL THOUGHTS:
As I said above, this was a difficult review to write because there is no denying that Zoe Blake is an INCREDIBLY TALENTED and prolific author and I am a huge fan of her work. I am awarding this book three stars based on the amazing writing, the titillation, the entertainment factor and the fact that “Paine the Punisher” melted my panties! And even though this PARTICULAR story did not fully catch fire with me, I am very much looking forward to her future releases!

Delightfully Decadent!

Seldom does an author come along whose talent for writing makes them a master of the craft, Zoe Blake is one of those rare talents.

“Dark Deception” is an action-packed suspenseful thrill ride from the very first page to the very last. Professionally written, extremely fast paced and thoroughly engaging “Dark Deception” is virtually impossible to put down. The characterizations are superb with a capable, intelligent female protagonist and one of the hottest, most dominate male leads ever written. Not a typical romance “Dark Deception” features wickedly hot sexual encounters that will push reader’s limits and have them secretly or not so secretly begging for more.

Although some may find the novel dark, others will simply find “Dark Deceptions” delightfully decadent.

Wow! How the hell does Zoe Blake manage to pack a full detailed non boring story into 100 and something pages? I love how nothing was spared...you get pretty much all of Mira and Paine's separate backgrounds and then their combined history and some suspense as they work toward fixing their names. I felt bad for Mira but it was easy to see that she wasn't truly heartbroken just mad at herself for wanting the idea of love so much that she settled with an idiot.

There were many good things about this book, but I just felt that a lot of it was abrupt.

The beginning to me was very abrupt. It just seemed that it started too suddenly for my taste, like I was thrown into the story already knowing about characters and setting.

I did like the characters a lot. This book was rather short, and with that, I felt that the characters' relationship with each other grew too quickly. I would have liked a little bit more hesitation on Mira's part, though I do love how Paine wouldn't take no for an answer.

The sex was H O T. Scorching!! There was quite a bit of sex in this book, which I didn't mind, because it was on fire. Each scene had me squeezing my thighs together and my cheeks turn bright red. I would put this probably in my top ten in regards to sex and how hot it is.

Overall, I felt that this book had so much potential, but with it being as short as it is (I finished it in less than a day), it didn't have opportunity to blossom into what it could be.

How can I start a new review without sounding repetitive? Well I don't care, I need to do what I know and damn the rest.
I love book, that's the main reason why I do this. And the ability to know new authors is a bonus, a bonus that I adore every second of it.
Zoe Blake is a new author to me but let's just say if the beginning is like this I'll be stalking her forever. Her writting is hot and wild, full of good stuff and...
Dark Deception is her latest release and jeez... What a book... this book tells the stories of Mirage and Paine.
Mirage is a thief and a very good one. She's used to work alone and to answer to no-one, she's always in control and takes her job very seriously. She has a dark soul and is currently seeking revenge.
Paine can't take Mirage out of his mind. Their one night stand left him wanting more but she has other ideas. His career was sabotage years ago and now he needs to know who did it... Well let's just say that he will get a huge surprise.
Let's just say that I'm mad... I'm mad because the book ended so soon. I wanted more... Why???
The plot is good, well written and super fast paced. The interation between the characters is forbidden, explosive and raw. Dayum this two together are like a cocktail Molotov... Sweet lord.
The book is dark, dirty, raw and I wanted more. Seriously Zoe... Gimme more...
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Mirage and Paine are two high caliber thieves who work for The Syndicate. Mirage wants to kill Paine yet Paine has decided that she’s going to be his girl, no negotiation.

Unfortunately, this book fell short for me. Most of the BDSM-sex scenes felt unrealistic (forced 10“ cock in the a$$ is enjoyable???) and I didn’t feel a connection between the main characters, perhaps because character development was lacking. I often found myself wanting to skim through boring parts of the book discussing things like vault/safe brands and mechanisms which I have absolutely no interest in. Although this book is not poorly written, it could be much, much better if it were re-edited. There weren’t too many blatant typos or grammatical errors but there were several obvious mistakes. For example, in chapter 4 the author calls the female main character by the wrong name (calling her Miranda) and she uses the phrase, “as innocent as a newborn babe” twice within 5 pages. Although there are an abundance of detailed sex scenes, when the author flashes back to the character’s first encounter in Turkey, all details of their first sexual encounter (which supposedly started this the intensity between them) are skipped?!?!? I was also a bit irritated by the repetition.

Ever do something you knew you should be doing, but did it anyways? Well that was me and this book. It was my guilty pleasure. Sneaking away at parties, at work or anywhere really just to be able to read one more chapter. I felt like I was an addict just asking for one more hit. There were very few things I didn’t like about this book. Such as the length and how quick the Romance took place. I’m sure if the book was longer the Romance aspect of the book would have taken a little longer to build up. Which I would have liked. - By Vanessa

Dark Deception is deliciously dark and wonderful. Zoe Blake's written a stunning story that will keep you glued to your seat!

Learning to be a thief can be tricky. Being the best of the best requires precision, planning, and the ultimate of skills. But can a thief turn into a heartless killer? Mirage is at the top of her game. Whatever you want, she can get. She's incomparable. But when the boyfriend she loves is murdered, vengeance becomes her life. She knows who did it. She has a plan. But Paine is also a thief extraordinaire. He's older, far more experienced with far fewer scruples, and wily as a fox. When Mirage's carefully crafted plan to destroy Paine fails utterly, what are the consequences? Paine will surely make her pay. She's already ruined his reputation. She may have even gone so much farther. As the results of Mirage's actions become clear, it's not just Paine who finds himself in peril. Despite the inconvenience, the organization for which they work may just have decided they're both expendable. Mirage and Paine soon realize not everything's as it seems. The longer they're around each other, the more they learn about themselves. Epiphanies occur for both. But is that enough? Can these two enemies form an alliance? It's highly unlikely. In the end, just what is either willing to sacrifice to survive? Is it conceivable they can work together to stop the seemingly inevitable despite the mutual lack of trust? If not, their worlds may completely implode and nothing will ever be the same.

Zoe Blake is an enchantress, creating deliciously dark erotic romances. In my opinion, Dark Deception is the best of her books I've read. It's packed with uncertainty, passion, and the darkness we've come to expect from her writing. Mirage and Paine's story takes you on a journey that's full of twists and turns. How these two meet is beyond unusual. The fact they even survive the beginning of the story is extraordinary. But, for me, the irresistible draw of this story was the complexity of the relationship between Mirage and Paine. The nonexistent trust, the hatred evidenced by Mirage, and her inability to accept Paine as anything other than what she's made him in her mind are riveting. Paine is a world unto himself. He's unlike any character I've met before in any book. The constant push and pull between Mirage and Paine keeps you invested in their story to the very last word. To say this book is a maelstrom of totally unexpected emotions and actions would be a vast understatement. The action, uncertainty, and ending are riveting. Ms. Blake has obviously put a tremendous amount of research into this book, and it shows. The book takes you on a whirlwind tour of some of the most glamorous and beautiful locations in the world. The accuracy and absolute beauty of Ms. Blake's locations make you feel as if you're actually there. I truly loved this book and can't give it less than five stars. Congratulations, Zoe Blake. You've created a magnificent work or art!

One final note. Please be an informed reader! This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and some dark sexual scenes. This may not be the book for you if you don't enjoy this genre. Think hard before buying any book you know you won't enjoy. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and Amazon. Use these resources. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. It's not fair to the author. She works very hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you'll object to the book's subject matter before you buy it, you're doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.

Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!

Zoe Blake writes some lovely dark books. She likes to explore that dark and share it with everyone. This book is no different. She takes us on a walk around dark corners so that we can explore those nooks and crannies together and find the hidden gems.

Mirage is a successful jewel and information thief. She got her name because she is just like a mirage. She sneaks in, she sneaks out, and it's like she was never there. If anyone sees her, it's just out of the corner of their eye and she's gone before they can blink. Her current job has nothing to do with any jewel or any information. She's on a revenge mission. She has very carefully planned the downfall of the man who killed her lover. She has plotted and planned to end up right where she is now, sitting outside Paine's house, waiting to kill him.

Paine is also a very successful thief, but he doesn't sneak quite the way that Mirage does. He still manages to get what he wants. But, that's not the only job he does. He's also a cleaner and an extraction specialist. The people he works for hire him to take care of problems and to make them be not problems anymore. He first met Mira when it was his job to extract her from a dangerous situation. They had one glorious night together, and then she disappeared, just like her namesake.

OMG, the chemistry between Mira and Paine is off the charts, turn it up to 11, hot. She remembers him with fire and passion, he remembers her as his. They are like rare earth magnets, drawn to each other no matter how far away they are. I love that sizzling connection. I had to keep a fan blowing on my Kindle while I was reading it, just to make sure that it wouldn't melt from that heat.

I love how strong Paine and Mirage are when they are apart from each other. She is strong, smart, and careful, and Paine recognizes that in her and appreciates her strengths. Paine has his own strengths, and Mira recognizes them. They complement each other and make each other stronger. That is just wonderful.

This book is wonderful and I loved reading each and every word of it. I wasn't able to put it down and ended up staying up way too late to finish it.

Mirage is a thief, and a good one.  She works alone and has had a very successful career working for the Syndicate.  But she has revenge on her mind when she strikes out against another thief and sets him up to look like he’s stealing from their employer.  When they don’t order a hit on him she takes it upon herself to kill him.  Always in control she has everything planned out, till she’s face to face with the man himself, Paine Darwin.

Paine has thought about Mirage everyday for the past two years, since he was sent to extract her from Turkey.  Their one night together and her escaping him the next morning haunts him daily.  Now with her trying to kill him it just makes him just want her even more.  This kitten has claws and he’s ready to tame her.  Now, Paine and Mirage are on the run from the Syndicate and the two must keep each other alive and figure out a way to get their former employer to stop trying to kill them.  Paine has an even bigger mission, get Mirage to quit running away and realize she belongs to him.

I can’t say enough about this fast-paced, heart racing romance.  This is not your flowers and chocolates kind of romance.  Dark Deception is a story with lots of hot and heavy BDSM sex scenes that will leave you panting and wanting to read more.  Zoe Blake wrote a male character that is strong and heavy handed and controlling in a sexually dominate way that would give a certain billionaire a run for his money.  This story had a lot of suspense and action in it, and not just in the bedroom, although that action is well worth mentioning again.  I give Dark Deception 5 stars and highly recommend it.

This was my first book by Zoe Blake, the blurb had me itching to read it - edgy, dark and dirty, just how I like it!!

I really enjoyed this, it was fast paced but quite a short book.

Mirage is a master thief and is out for revenge against the man who killed the man she loved. They both work for the same crime organisation, The Syndicate, and she takes two years to ruin his career and reputation, but its not enough, she wants him dead, and plans to do it herself.

Paine is a master criminal, but has had his life ruined over the last couple of years, someone has sabotaged his career. So he lays a trap and expects a certain someone to come calling. He didn't expect it to be Mirage, the girl he extracted from Turkey a few years ago. They spent one night together and he hasn't been able to forget her, now she's trying to kill him!!

Its a good storyline with enough of a background so you know whats going on. Mirage is herself a bad ass little thief, very sassy and fiesty, and tries to give Paine as good as she gets, but she is just no match for him! Paine is a very domineering bad ass, strong, very controlling - some very hot sexy scenes with BDSM - the man knows how to use a belt - and some dub-con, so be aware.

Lots of action and suspense in this, enough to keep those pages flying, but it was a little too short, ended quite quick, would've loved to see more in the story. Definitely worth the read though, won't be everyone's cup of tea with its content, but if you like it dark and dirty you will enjoy this.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Mirage doesn't just want revenge. She wants Paine dead. Mirage is a master jewel thief but tonight she is an assassin. Paine's life was ruined by her lies. Now he is going to make her pay. He will have her on her knees, begging for forgiveness. It is time she learned why they call him Paine.

I really enjoyed this story. It is short so you should expect it to move quickly which was fine with me. I found that I had enough back story to not feel like I didn't know the characters or the story. Mirage and Paine are both working for The Syndicate. However events lead up to where to book starts and you find that Mirage is out for revenge on Paine because he killed the man she loved. I have to say she does a brilliant job of ruining his reputation now she just wants him dead. Can she actually go through with it? After all she is a jewel thief and not a killer. This begins the journey of Paine and Mirage and it is a thrill ride from the start to the finish. I really liked these characters and Paine is certainly all alpha male. This book is filled with passion, nonstop action from beginning to end and a story that neither of these two characters saw coming.

If you looking for a smoking hot book that will take you away for an afternoon and leave you breathless at times for all the action going on, then you do not want to miss Dark Deception.

This my friends is why I LOVE dark romance!! Zoe Blake is a new to me author, but she's found a HUGE fan in me. I found her writing BRILLIANT! From start to finish I was enthralled into this story. It's an intense, dark, intimate, extremely dirty in all the best ways story! And the chemistry between the characters is EXPLOSIVE!

Mirage is jewel thief, yet she's hell bent on revenge. Killing the man who killed her lover. She's smart, cunning, and one of the top jewel thieves in her field. But is she a killer? Can she be an assassin? Paine seems to have pushed her to that point!

Oh my Paine Dawson all i can say is WHOA!! I'm a sucker for a dominant, dirty talking alpha male, and Paine is definitely that! When he decides to teach her a lesson about her trying to kill him, let the sexiness begin.

Both Paine and Mirage work for the Syndicate. Their journey is intense, suspenseful, yet we see lots of down and dirty between the two. They both have an intensity to them, Paine bringing out Mirage's submissive side, and her bringing out his Dominance. I was so captivated by their attraction, and his possessiveness to Mirage.

Dark Deception is EVERYTHING I could want and more in a dark romance. I definitely plan to read more from this author in the future!

*i voluntarily read an advance copy from the author. This is,my honest review.*

Carla's Three Star Review

From a young age, Mirage learned how to become a thief-a really accomplished thief. She has a long history working for the criminal organization known as the Syndicate and has amassed millions in the process. After suffering a great loss, she is out for one thing-revenge. She goes after a fellow thief, Paine Darwin, who also works for the same organization as she does. She first attempts to make it look like Paine is stealing from the Syndicate with the hope they will kill him. When that doesn't happen, she decides to take matters into her own hands, but things don't turn at all how she plans.

Dark Deception is packed with so much action and suspense, you will be kept on the edge of your seat from beginning to end! However, it is not a light and airy romance. It is a story filled with a lot of BDSM, so if that isn't your thing, you probably won't be a huge fan. However, if you enjoy a hot, domineering alpha male, you are sure to fall head over heels for Paine!

Amount of sex 3 / 5
How explicit 4 / 5
Story 4 / 5
Overall: 3.5 / 5 (Rounded to 4 / 5)

Dark Deception is a dark and gritty romance from author Zoe Blake. Ms. Blake writes about taboo, wicked and very naughty subject matters and enjoys pushing the reader’s comfort zone. I completely enjoy reading her delicious stories but I know they are not for everyone.

Mirage and Paine are both experienced and successful jewel thieves. They have a history together, which has caused Mirage to seek revenge on Paine. Paine is already waiting for Mirage and punishes her for something that happened in the past. It is action packed and full of wicked panty melting sex scenes. So you are aware, there are some dubious consent sex scenes including an anal scene.
