The Upside of Falling

Tucked away at the base of the Rocky Mountains lived a little boy with one singular dream: leave this broken and battered home and become someone.

Be somebody’s hero.

That boy was me—Colby Brooks. Except I’m not that same little boy anymore.
My dreams might still be the same, but my reality isn’t.

I’m smarter. Stronger. A man.

And I learned a long damn time ago, the only way to achieve my dreams was to avoid distractions—at any cost.

Focus. Resolve. Determination.

But all it took was one single night. One night and my entire life…changed.

One night had me colliding head first with the biggest distraction of my life; Rory Oaks.

Smart. Charming. Beautiful.

Rory changed everything.

Quickly, my one-track mind started to bend.

Each kiss faded decade-long dreams.

And with one single incident, I fly off course.

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

I may have loved Meghan Quinn's writing before, but now, now I'm down right obsessed with her writing.

Well too bad, I need the next book NOW!!!!!!

This book took my heart and it is literally still is holding it captive. One word, so unexpected.....

We meet Colby Brooks, broken, closed off, discouraging attitude, moody, downright rude, and has no time for anything but his dream, graduating flight school and flying. He's lost a lot in his short lifetime, been abused physically and mentally by people that should love him most, and he has given up everything to prove he can and he will achieve what the one evil person told him he would never do. So when he goes to a party, one that he didn't even want to attend, his world tilts on its axis when he sees a girl that will literally rock his world. But he is determined to not let her be a distraction to achieving his dreams.........

Rory, she is all about integrity, and she shouts loyalty. She is sweet, kind, gorgeous, funny, and she is all about protecting her family no matter the cost. Her family is her priority, she will never leave them, never walk away from them as they need her help. So when she meets Colby at a party and he is a closed off rude jerk, she smothers him with kindness. She shows him what its like to be needed, to be wanted, to be loved. What happens when things heat up between Colby and Rory??? Does she walk away knowing that when he graduates with the Air Force, he gets relocated to a different location, knowing she can not leave her family? She knows she can never move away?? Live and see what happens......Thats what she does..

Rory and Colby spend the next several months left of Colby's flight schooling, getting closer and closer, falling more in love with each other each passing day. They share each others darkest secrets, replay each others nightmares to each other, experience life changing dates, and not knowingly, find their forevers.

But at what cost will it all come crashing down? Who will walk away? Who will fight with all they got when the dreaded orders come in?

Oh wait....... I thought I had this figured out.... Oh heck no......

Ms. Quinn you hands down did it with this book. I absolutely can not wait to see what happens in the next installment of this duet. I can only dream, I can only hope, and dammit, I am down right begging its as magical as this installment. Pick this one up, I recommend it to all of you loving that ultimate love story!!

With a soul so devoted to doing the right thing, he’s irresistible to me. My heart beats wildly for him, seeking the rhythm of his love.

Meghan Quinn is one of my top favorite romantic comedy writers. I crave everything she writes. When I saw the title of each installment of the ”Blue Line Duet” and the book covers, I knew that this was going to be my first endeavor on the serious side of this author. I have to say while I was extremely excited because I LOVE Meghan Quinn's books, I was also a little bit nervous. I wondered if she could deliver if the story was missing her signature humor. By the time I got to the end of ”THE UPSIDE OF FALLING” I was left heartbroken and speechless. The only silver lining is that the next book is due out in a couple of weeks, so that's not much of a wait!!

Colby Brooks and Rory Oaks are two lovers who were destined for heartbreak from the start. If they had known how cruel love would turn out to be, they probably should have cursed the night they met at a mutual friend’s house party. Colby is in the Air Force Academy and he’s just a few months away from having his dream come true, which is to make it into fighter pilot school. Rory is a beautiful distraction that he can’t afford at this point in his life.

Try as he may, he’s no match for Rory’s tenacity because from the moment she lays eyes on Colby she is determined to become a part of his life. When an inevitable romance takes flight between them, they’ll realize the mistake they made in throwing caution to the wind. His life is going to be leading him far from Colorado and her life is very much planted where she is in their hometown.

However strongly they may love each other and want a forever, it’s just nearly impossible. One would have to give up their dreams or the other would have to abandon their loved ones.

Is their short time together destined to end and be nothing but a fond memory? Well, let me just say, I was thinking this was a pretty decent and angsty love story till we get to that crazy heartbreaking cliffy! My jaw nearly hit the floor! I’m glad I’ve got only a few days to wait till I can see how it all plays out for these two star-crossed lovers.

Here are my overall ratings

Heroine: 4

KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

THE UPSIDE OF FALLING: Is the first romance book in the ‘Blue Line duet’ by new to me author Meghan Quinn. In this we meet Colby & Rory.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The ‘Prologue’ introduces us to ten year old Colby, as he hangs out with his Gramps discussing planes, which is one of his most favourite things to do. He aspires to be just like his Granddad and hopes to one day become a fighter pilot just like him.

A few years ago his dad was diagnosed with an incurable disease called mantel-cell lymphoma which he found difficult to get his head around being only ten.

Things change within the household in a blink of an eye when his father passes away. This was the catalyst which changed Colby forever.

Then it jumps and it seems as though Colby is living the dream where he’s a trainee at the Air Force Academy with his friend Stryder whom he met on the first day of basic training induction, three years later and they are still the best of friends.

RORY: God when she set her sights on Colby at a party neither of them wanted to be at, that's when all her stalker tendencies came into play, this girl did not give up, she chased him down until he was in such a tailspin that all he thought about was her, and finally he gave into her and jumped in with both feet.

I sympathised with Colby, his story was heartbreaking, he came across very dominant when it came to his one true passion, but anything to do with his past and we saw that alpha attitude diminish and in it's place was that sad little broken boy we saw, at times Rory had to hold him up on may occasions which made for hard reading but also gave you a stronger connection with his character, he was such a soft hearted broken down guy, with walls surrounding him, until Rory.

Admittedly this took me a wee bit to get into then it just came into it's own and I started to fall under the same spell all the other readers before me had. I'm even ashamed to admit that this is the first time that I have picked up a book by this author..Seeing all the glowing reviews, bloggers/readers gushing about how much they loved this book made me dust off the trusty zip zap and I one clicked faster than you could blink.
I loved the simplicity of this story, a real life feel to it that brought all the feels, a girl that was determined on not giving up, and a guy that was so closed off until her.

5 High Flying Stars🛩 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Meghan Quinn... Wow what a book! And that ending? What a cliffhanger, cannot wait for the next book in this duology... going to be clever and compare this book to a plane trip... I was all buckled up and ready to go and was thrilled there was a smooth take off... there was some turbulence on the flight, but then it smoothed out, and then some more turbulence.... The landing was pretty darn rocky and then when I got off the plane??? I was NOT where I thought I would be, how in the world did I get here? And what am I gonna do now that I am? Miss Quinn you have some explaining to do!

In this book we meet Colby and Rory... Colby’s dream is to be a fighter pilot and he is almost there about to graduate from the Air Force Academy... Colby had a tough childhood and has done nothing but kept his eye on the prize for the past several years.... when he meets Rory at a party he is very standoffish almost bordering being rude.... Rory is a sweet, beautiful, confident, and determined girl.... when these two finally get together things really sizzle! The problem... Colby’s dreams will take him out of Colorado Springs and Rory has obligations to her family that tie her there...

Will Colby and Rory find their HEA? Will they fly off into the sunset or make a crash landing??? You need to read this to find out! And you really do need to read it!

Absolutely recommend to fans of beautiful emotional Romances filled with love and tough decisions💕

*** many thanks to the author for my copy of this beautiful book ***

Highly Recommended

Meghan Quinn has proven herself to be one of the finest authors around. She can write the best romantic comedies that make readers roll around on the floor laughing and she can write emotional books that tear readers hearts apart and slowly build them up again. The Upside of Falling; the first book in the Blue Line Duet, falls more into the emotional category. And not in a way that means our beloved characters are dying off but emotional in a sense that this book evokes so many powerful sensations that readers have a hard time gripping their own feelings. Time and again, Meghan has brought me to my knees with her breathtaking words, realistic and natural characters, and a love so powerful you can actually feel it. This is an immensely beautiful novel and I think everyone who has ever dreamed of having a real life hero swoop into their lives and fall head over heels for them should read it. Many are going to complain of the dreaded cliffhanger and while I can understand your want and need for the second book immediately after this one, the wait is not long. Just prepare yourself for falling... Hard.

I will not go into plot details of this book. Frankly, you need to read it and feel it without someones input or play by play of the story. However, I will give you a few small details pertaining to the characters so you know the kind of people you will meet when you dive in (yes, I said people. Rory and Colby have literally become lifelike to me and I now call these fictional people friends).

Colby is in the US Airforce. He has always had a dream of becoming a fighter pilot and will let nothing stand in his way- and by nothing I mean people or any kind of distractions. He is at first very broody (understandable because his past wasn't the easiest) but slowly awakens into the kind of man any woman would dream of. >> Readers, you will get a MILITARY MAN .

Rory is a firecracker. Normally romance novels feature MEN who go after the WOMEN they want, but in this case, Rory does. She doesn't take no for an answer. She wants to get under Colby's hard demeanor and will literally stop at nothing to do so. She's my kind of girl! I think many readers are going to absolutely LOVE her.

... That's it. That is all I am giving you. You honestly need to read this book and feel the emotions flow through you. I'm not even saying that because I love Meghan Quinn. I am saying that because this is a beautiful and heartfelt story and is perfect for any romance reader. Nuff Said.

Grab this book! It's worth every second and every breath. And please, don't worry your pretty little heads about the cliffy. I know it will all be worth it in the end.

I think it's hard not to enjoy this author. Her writing style is easy and fun and fast-paced.

Once again, the characters in this book were absolutely wonderful and immediately pulled me into the story. Colby is an extraordinary character. Determined to become an Air Force Pilot since the age of ten, Colby is focused on studying and avoids distractions. Likewise, Rory is completely intriguing. Her love for life and family made me love her from the first pages. There is an extremely strong chemistry between Colby and Rory since the beginning and that it's only going to become stronger and hotter and steamer!

Apart from the amazing characterization and hot romance, there’s a great suspense subplot that had my eyes glued to the pages. The story earns big 5 stars from me and it is highly recommended for fans of contemporary romance which features a hot, reserved hero, a beautiful, kind and down-to-earth heroine and a little bit of suspense and heartache thrown into the mix to give the story an extra edge.

In short:
Hero 5/5 | Heroine 5/5 | Plot (Point, Originality) 5/5 | Writing Style 4/5 | Steam 4/5 | Romance 5/5 | Angst-Suspense 3/5 | Darkness 1/5 | Humor 2/5 | Secondary Characters 5/5 | Drama-Conflict 5/5 | Mystery 0/5 | Twists 5/5 | Pacing Fast | Action 3/5

5 Top Gun meets Nicholas Sparks Stars

A New Adult romance with all the Feels. The story is epic, heartbreaking, and hopeful, all rolled into a beautiful package.

I abso-freaking-lutely loved this duet! It’s flirty, emotional, and heartbreaking in places. It’s the perfect mix of everything I love about romance. Meghan Quinn has the uncanny ability to make me fall head over hills in love with her male leads. Colby imprinted on my heart!

"He isn’t a challenge because I can sense that I’m able to break through to him, he’s more of a mystery, a puzzle with missing pieces…."

Colby is multilayered, likable, engaging and intriguing. I wanted to know more about him. What caused his drive. What made him tick. He really was a puzzle I wanted to solve.

“She’s haunted me. She’s imprinted herself in my mind."
Ryan is tenacious, caring, and a giver. She knows what she wants and goes after it. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop and blossom into something beautiful.

The book is layered. The characters are well developed. The writing is great. Overall I enjoyed it immensely. It’s a solid story that has a great emotional punch. Prepare yourselves folks! This is unlike anything I’ve read lately and I loved every minute!

Smoking hot taciturn men in uniform are irresistible and Meghan Quinn has created the perfect book boyfriend to fall in love with in the first installment of the Blue Line Duet.

Despite his appalling past and practically nonexistent support, Colby Brooks has a single minded focus on achieving his lifelong dream, to be become a fighter pilot. He’s determined to avoid any and all distractions. But after enough cajoling from his best friend Stryder he goes out one night and his life will never be the same.

In this tale where invisible wounds are deep and difficult to overcome, Colby retreats behind an icy cold veneer but the beautiful, persistent and kind Rory Oaks achieves the seemingly impossible, to get through his impenetrable shields and alter his path. But even though they are perfect for each other Rory has issues of her own. They are at different stages of their lives and finding a way to be together may prove to be heartbreaking.

The book moves between sweltering hot sexy bits, sad segments of Colby’s past, and beautiful letters between Colby and Rory filled with empathy and honest communication, all while the two fall profoundly in love regardless of their impending impasse. Vague? Yes. Sorry. Not sorry. Spoilers hinder all the feels!

Quinn skillfully delves into one man’s tormented past and present determination as the backdrop for deep soul searching and a deeply satisfying romance even though it’s hard to envision a happy ending given the shocking cliffhanger we were left with, but I eagerly away the next book with the promise of true love combined with Quinn’s ability to make me smile, laugh and swoon.

The Upside of Falling is the first book of the Blue Line duet by Meghan Quinn. It is a touching, sweet and sexy contemporary romance, told from both points of view with a cliffhanger.

"Throughout life, you run into people who either have a positive influence or a negative influence on who you become. It’s your job to decide whether you keep them at your side, or move on." ~ Kinda like how I wish I moved on from ever reading this novel. . . .

Sooooooooo. . . .let's start with the positive:

🔥 - The entire novel was golden (well almost the entire novel but we'll get to that in a New York minute). . . loved the main character's chemistry, character development & depth, as well as the simple but interesting story line, etc. etc.

🔥 - Adorable internal banter with the reader

🔥 - I thoroughly enjoyed reading the letters the main characters exchanged. It was fun and different. The feeling of excitement and nervousness of the main characters meeting after exchanging letters was truly fascinating and could legitimately be felt from the reader's standpoint. Not an easy feat with those particular emotions.

Then it happened.

Last chapter.

The twist, the cliffhanger, the ending.

Whatever the fuck you want to call it.

*Hint:

23-dexter-1-w529-h352.jpg

Yea, I seriously thought I was reading an ending to a book that was written by a 12-year-old wanna-be teenage writer! How in the hell did this get so many 5-star reviews? Is there some massive underground review cult that gives novels 5-stars without reading the end to the actual book?

Sooooooo here is my advise to anyone who plans on reading it:

bucket

^^^ Pick a Part & Just Do It! ^^^

Miss Quinn might as well have written an ending where every character got on a plane and it crashed into a mountain killing everyone, period, end of story.

Yup, it's that frustrating.

🔥 - FINAL THOUGHTS:

Unless you're in 7th grade, SKIP IT! ~cheers

I’ve never been so happy to be taken hostage by a book! Lately I’ve been feeling kind of funky. Book funky, that is. I’ve been disinterested in reading, and it’s been troubling me because I freaking love to read! I needed something to snap me the hell out of it, and The Upside of Falling did just that. I could not put this book down. And the cherry on top of this addictive sundae is that it’s only the first book in a duet.

How do you know if this story is for you? Ask yourself if you like…
• Romances that are sweet and also naughty
• Wounded heroes
• Warm fuzzies
• Soap opera worthy family drama
• Cliffhangers

If those qualities don’t tick your boxes then move along. If they get your heart pumping, then welcome aboard the Book Crack Train.

I do enjoy a tough hero who is also very vulnerable, and Colby is the perfect balance of both. He is brooding and single-minded in his goal to graduate from the Air Force Academy and become a fighter pilot. His seeming indifference to Rory keeps his bruttaly painful past at bay and protects his dreams for the future. I love how determined and persistent Rory is in tearing down Colby’s walls. She has a huge heart and her relationship with her brother is so dear.

Colby is tender with just the right amount of alpha, which gives his romance with Rory some heat to go along with the sweet. The combination helps the angst go down quite nicely.

This one is a heartbreaker with a cliffhanger I saw coming but still very much enjoyed. On to the conclusion…

What a book!What a book!
As I write this review, I am overwhelmed by the roller coaster of emotions just remembering what It felt like  reading this book. It's safe to say that the effect this book had on me has not left off.

Just the other day, I was raving about this book to a friend of mine, gushing about what A Gem this book is and how in love I am with Colby Brooks. she said, I quote "You have too many book boyfriends!". At this moment I would like to point out, our friendship nearly got terminated, until the day before (She bought her copy of the book and couldn't stop raving about it).

I feel like there are an array of words that encapsulates a girl like Rory in a nutshell: Loyal, Funny, Charming, Gutsy but most of all, kind.
Colby is,at first glance, broody AF! His entire persona is a tad intimidating but once you get a sneak into his intimidating 'facade' , Colby is going to snatch your heart and keep it chained to him (not that I mind hahaha). There is so much to Colby Brooks that it's hard to put into words: passionate, survivor, raw, hot...the list goes on and on.

It's safe to say that I'm torn between picking a favourite character in this book. It's beautifully written and I am so freaking excited for book 2!

If you haven't noticed this book is part of a duet so, Brace yourself for a cliffhanger that will keep you up at night.

Happy Reading!

When I heard Meghan Quinn was working on another ‘emotional’ book, I couldn’t wait to read it (her last emotional book, Dear Life, was a top read last year). The fact that it’s a military romance was like icing on the cake. While I enjoy her romantic comedies, I have to say, I love her angsty and full-of-feels stories. She has a way of writing the most realistic characters who you can’t help but feel attached to and make you root for their happiness.

Rory is a woman who is used to working hard after setting her lifelong dreams aside. When she meets Colby at a party, she can’t believe her luck. But, his reluctance to get to know her only makes her more determined to crack his shell. What she finds is a man who is not only amazingly sweet and caring, but who has also been emotionally scarred by his past.

Colby has had a one-track mind since he was a young boy. Every step he has taken and every decision he made has brought him one step closer to becoming a fighter pilot. Having a girlfriend like Rory, as awesome as she is, would only cause a distraction. Their pull is undeniable, though, and soon Colby is under her spell.

I really loved Rory and Colby’s story. They are like star-crossed lovers whose relationship has an unavoidable expiration date. Rory pursues Colby heavily at the beginning, which was a pleasant change of pace from the usual ‘guy chasing the girl’. Seeing them get to know one another was so beautiful, heartfelt, and emotional.

Meghan did an amazing job with this story. I will say that the cliffhanger is brutal and I did not see it coming. Fortunately for all of us, The Downside of Love is right around the corner!

5 why did you make me cry CROWNS

***this will not be a normal review because I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone.

My heart is broken mess, lying in a pile wet with my tears. Meghan Quinn did that to me. My favorite rom-com writer broke my soul, crushed my heart.

She (MQ, not a character) also makes me so angry I can’t see straight. I want to throw things, scream this isn’t fair. I want to hate characters. I want to throat punch these people. Honestly, my emotions are all over the place, and I NEED book 2 NOW. I can’t wait. It is torturous!! TORTURE.

The Upside to Love is a beautiful, heart wrenching story. You FEEL it all because you love these characters, you feel their connection, the sense of calm they provide. You yearn for them to find their HEA. I need to trust one of my favorite writers that she will make it okay in the end. Know this, though, this book will make you elated and suffer in anguish in the best way possible.

There may be an upside to falling, but there sure as hell is a downside to love…

Characters & Chemistry.

Although Colby came across as a dick, he was reserved and didn’t want to put himself out there. He doesn’t know any different. Although he came across as standoffish in the beginning I still liked him a lot. Once he lets you in you are in. Beyond the tortured soul and the gruff exterior he has a heart of gold and is full of compassion.

Colby has always ever wanted one thing and that is to be fighter pilot, he is so close to achieving his goal. But he is about to be distracted.

Rory gave up her dreams a long time ago to stay close to home to support her brother Bryan. It was a hard choice to make and an adjustment that took time she knows that she will never be able to leave her home town. They come to be at an impasse.

Although there is chemistry between these two Rory most certainly put more effort into it at the beginning. Colby is a tough nut to crack. I guess it took Colby some time to warm up. It all went so fast well that is the impression that I got. It wasn’t what I imagined them to be like as a couple.

The secondary character that intrigued me the most is Stryder and I kind of hope that he gets a book. The other secondary character that I love is Colby’s Gramps.

Writing, Plot & Pace.

MQ writes really well, she is flawless in her execution and delivers a heartfelt romance which is beautiful to read and to experience. I get the vibe of soulmates or love at first sight that at the end of the day these two are meant to be together. But sometimes sacrifices have to made. I enjoyed that they wrote letters to one another and although they get to know one another that way when they actually spent time together I felt as if that depth that was in the letters was missing in their interactions. But there were times that I felt that the pace of the book was a tad slow. But that could just be me.

Personal preference for me is that I seem to have a real problem with unisex names. The heroine Aurora was Rory and Colby is the Hero. I have only meet male Rory’s and a female Colby so I’m kind of confused with this sometimes that makes me enjoy the book slightly less.

Verdict.

Well other than that the book ends in a cliffhanger and one I’m not entirely sure that I can get on board with I liked the book very much. This book is like a unicorn. No manwhore Hero, no virgins involved with a sweet and sexy side note. I am also desperate for the second and last instalment of the duet.

The Blue Line Duet - with its first installment - is holding me prisoner. All the emotion has been rung out of me -- from the very sad to the happy, from laughter to tears, from smiles to frowns, from liking to loving, and in the end -- I don't know how to feel. Empty, maybe. I had a feeling of what might be winging its way towards readers -- but when it landed, I wasn't quite prepared. And then holy crap - that cliffy just left me torn to shreds. And I told myself before I even downloaded this book to "WAIT" until the other book would be available for me to immediately continue on. But I'm known for not having much patience when it comes to the one-click button. So, here I am . . . wondering if this one will fly like an eagle the way I want it to go, or take a nosedive in an entirely different direction. And that book blurb on the next installment doesn't bring me too much comfort or relief.

The writing is perfection -- the story captivating and so much more. But the characters -- all of them -- at one time or another during the telling of this one stole my heart. This is one duet you don't want to miss -- really it's a must-read!

Oh lordie, Colby Brooks is special and I'm not just saying it for the heck of it. He truly is special. And you'll find out for yourself how much once you read this book. My goodness my poor heart was very excited when I started reading this book, but once the first chapter of Colby as a child appeared it started to hurt. You start figuring out who Colby is and why he is the way he is in a general basis, but mostly importantly why he tries to stay away from Rory. You get glimpses of his past and what he went through, and it's amazing to be able to contrast that scared 10 year old boy with the 22 year old man who is strong, determined and so damn caring once you get past his hard exterior.

As I said, Colby didn't have an easy childhood, for many reasons, all related to each other in a snowball effect. He has always known what he wanted to do, and the hardships he had to endure only made him more determined to achieve his dream of being a pilot. His only support system has always been his grandpa, who instilled in him the love for planes and always feed that love and Colby's dream of flying.

Colby is so very close to graduating, and then knowing if he got into Flight School. He's trying to stay focused on his goals, working hard and studying. But one day, when he's home on break, his best-friend and housemate convinces him to go to a party and it's at this party that Colby and Rory first lay eyes on each other. He tries to stay away from her, he doesn't need a distraction but Rory is very persistent. She knows what she wants, and she can tell from the start that Colby is worth pursuing. Boy is she right! And she really sees that along the way, when he starts opening up to her.

Even though he tried to stay away, she became a distraction anyway because he couldn't stop thinking about her after they met. And with a little more persistence and creativity Rory wins him over. They fall. They fall hard. At every little secret or quirk Rory learns about Colby, makes her see how truly amazing he is. And seeing him with her family and interacting with her autistic brother only proves that. They found 'the one' in each other but with Colby's future looming over them, things are nothing but easy. What will Colby choose, his dream or the love of his life? And will Rory let him give up on that dream?

Since this is a duet, I bet you know the answer to at least one of those questions. My god, I already knew this wasn't gonna end well. And at one point in the book, it's pretty clear what will happen but let me say this, that epilogue oh my god. My poor heart. His poor heart. Holy f*ck! It hurt. And now I'm DYING to see how everything will play out because I NEED to know, not just what happens next but what the heck happened in that one year gap. Ah, I feel like screaming just thinking about it. Damn it!! These are the kind of things that really get to me. I swear I've never wanted to have the second book of a duet as much as I want this one right now. iedfjngvojglfnjenriodvfngh. I'm a mess, but I guess you could probably already tell at this point.

Okay, okay. Please pick up this book, it might destroy you in the end but it is truly so good. I think with every book I read of Meghan's I fall a little more for her writing. And this book, no doubt has been my favorite. These two were beyond perfect together. They are two very sweet characters who have sucky family situations, even though in very different ways, that have come out on top and have strived and are just amazing people. I seriously loved them, but you know with that ending my opinion of Rory might change. It's very possible.

For real though, pick this one up. You won't regret it. #promise

5 'FLYER' STARS!

Well then... I was not expecting that. At all! But I knew it was coming. I felt it deeply and in my very gut as my heart raced. Now I'm left here wondering what the heck is happening!? What have you done, Meghan Quinn!?

The Upside of Falling was beautifully heartbreaking and an emotional story of perseverance. It was everything you look for in a good angst filled romance that will give you all the feels!

Colby Brooks is an amazing, yet broken man. Brooding, quiet, and somewhat gloomy. He dreams of being up in the sky and becoming a fighter pilot just like his grandfather. He's a man that carries his demons on his shoulders. The loss and pain he's endured has caused him to build an impenetrable barrier... until Rory of course.

Rory she's beautiful, sweet, and loyal. She gives up on her dreams to take care of her family. Colby and her meet at a party where their attraction for one another is potent and hard to deny, but Colby fights against it. Rory is feisty and she doesn't give up on him. She slowly breaks down those walls that surround him. She's the light among the darkness for him.

Colby and Rory spend the most magnificent months together. Sharing each other's hopes, dreams, and secrets while basking in their love. But not all good things end happily. Soon everything is crumbling and you're left shocked 😲.

This book will throw you a curve ball you'll never see coming and that's for sure! I'm angry, confused, and on the verge of throwing something... but I loved it!! Every single mintue of this book I loved it. A definite must read, I need book 2 now please!

2.5/5 estrellas

This is part 1 of a duet and they must be read together ~ and they probably should have just been 1 book!!!!!!!! but what is the fun in that(sarcastic)?!?!?! it's like buying socks separate. Thank goodness we don't have to do that!! LOL. MAJOR CLIFFHANGER at the end! please just have them both ready. you were warned.

This book was phenomenal - it threw me into a tornado of emotions again and again! I 100% fell for Colby. His past with his family just put daggers in my heart, his determination to be a pilot, his plan for life, his friends, his gramps, and the way he fell hard for Rory. GAH, it was all so sweet!!!

I was sobbing by the end, and I rarely shed more than a few tears. But I did not enjoy the ending, I was so mad at the thought of where it could go in book 2!!!! so of course this book gave me ALL of the feels. I love all the feels. I'm still mad though. I'm scared of book 2.

There may be an upside to falling, but there sure as hell is a downside to love . .

Thank God for Meghan Quinn's The Upside of Falling, I am now out of my book slump. Gahhhd! Colby and Rory's story in this first book of the duet is filled with impressive soul searing, inspiring and heart shattering moments. Meghan Quinn is a master storyteller as again, I was lost into the world she created. I was overwhelmed with too much emotions and I can never let go.  It was such an excellently and beautifully written tale of love and life and it's in betweens.

If you'll ask me how was my reading several days ago, I will probably not gonna answer you. But, ask me now and I'll tell you, "ONE CLICK MEGHAN QUINN'S THE UPSIDE OF FALLING, STAT!". Nothing more, nothing less and I'll leave you to it and be the judge. Because I tell you this, the book in itself speaks volumes. It was riveting as it was breathtaking. Every words and lines was not just written with clarity but with too much emotions each will blow you away. I wasn't as happy knowing it's a duet and Meghan just made a perfect decision, because this tale need not to be rushed. It needs to be savoured and breathed. And that I did.

I was elated. I was thrilled. I was addicted. Hell, I was obsessed. Not just to Rory and Colby but the whole totality of the book and their journey. Often times, I am attached to the hero of a book. I was hooked with the thought of how a hero's personality was written with flaws and imperfections and how perfect he could be. But this one right here made a difference. I was hooked to both the hero and heroine equally. Their character portrayal was uniquely written. It was an insta-love and insta-connection rolled into one with just a few pages on. The thought of it as military romance didn't help either. I could not put the book down. I was so into it that I can feel every emotions Meghan wanted to deliver. I cried, I laughed, I swooned, I fell in love. I was moved and touched with the kid Colby just as much as his older version. I adored how big Rory's heart is. The sacrifices she made, yet still can pull off that attitude that crumbled Colby's wall. In the end, my heart was shattered. I didn't see it coming. Meghan just tug my heart strings one by one. I.was.crushed and I need the next book asap like I need air to breathe.

Ahhhh Meghan, you are a total badass and you deserve all the boob squeezes for this emotional rollercoaster ride I had. You had me then, you have me now and you will have me tomorrow and all the days to come. You are brilliant! The Upside of Falling, grabbed me heart and soul. Kudos!

Oh man! I have to say this Meghan Quinn outdone herself with this book. I really love this more serious side of her. I might even say this is her best book to date!!!!
However, I’m very saddened by the end ... I think I know where the story is going and I’m not sure how I feel about it... but I know in my heart everything happened for a reason!
Knowing Meghan she will give me closure. What meant to be will be ... hopefully .... because I don’t think my heart can take it! ❤️

There you have it! A good author will suck you in and have you begging for more! That’s where I’m at right now!

This is an absolute must read!

More to come ....

Review:

Honestly Meghan Quinn is the QUEEN of ROMCOM but I must admit I love the more serious side of Meghan … like A LOT. This book reminds me a bit of Dear Life - thoughtful, emotional, heartfelt. I am going to go out on the limb and say this might be Meghan’s best book to date.
Colby’s childhood is a rocky one. With his father death and his mother remarried to an abusive a**hole, Colby could not wait to escape his tortured home life (no child should have to go through that – this part is quite heartbreaking). Colby eventually joined the US Airforce and plan to become a fighter pilot. He is 100% committed and would not allow anything get in his way of pursuing this life-long dream of flying.
One night Colby reluctantly let his best friend Stryder dragged him to a party and that is when he met Rory. The first-time Colby laid eyes on Rory he knew he was in big trouble but Colby refused to have any distraction. Rory also see something in Colby that night – a broody, handsome harden exterior man but also multilayered. Rory was intrigued and she was determined to breakdown all Colby’s protective walls. I like Rory. She has the ability to sees people and help them. Despite Colby d**ksih behavior, deep down Rory knows Colby has a good caring heart – she was right. Rory gave up much of dreams to take care of her brother. With Colby’s leaving on a year-long flight school and Rory’s responsibility at home, can they make long distant relationship work? Or will they both have to make sacrifices for love?
I enjoyed the angsty romance friend to lover relationship between Colby and Rory. You can feel the chemistry dripping off the page from the start. I would describe their romance as flirty, passionate but also very emotional and heartbreaking at the end. I enjoy the bromance between Colby and Stryder, the close-knit family value of Rory, Colby’s grandpa and his wise advices, Rory’s best friend Ryan - she is something
The book end with a cliffhanger and my heart is heavy … I think I know where the story is going and I am not sure how I feel about it all … well … saddened for sure, but I know in my heart that everything happened for a reason. Knowing Meghan, she will give us closure and a new beginning. What meant to be will be …
I have to say Meghan Quinn outdone herself with this book. I LOVE the emotional storyline, the depths of each characters, the love letters, the romance. I was consumed from beginning until the end.

An absolute must read!

Ummm...what the…*Slowly puts the Kindle down so I don’t throw it as a plethora of curse words come out of my mouth that the beep is really just one long annoying sound with no breaks*?!?!?!

Yes, a cliffy was expected ~ it is a duet after all, but seriously??

THAT?!?

Nope. No. Just...I refuse...so we are just going to pretend that it doesn’t exist and move on.

Okay. I’m chill. I’m good. I hope.

This one was definitely a journey and the feels were all kinds of real. Not only with Colby and Rory’s journey together (as can be verified by the start of this review) but with them as individuals. Both are driven, focused and stubborn. So. Very. Stubborn. And that works for and against them, but has made them into the people they are, which are human’s with huge hearts. I will say that it took me a bit to warm up to both of them, but once their pasts were revealed things started to click and I ended up loving both of them, there we still things that frustrated me, but such is life.

As for their romance. It really was all kinds of sweet and smexy when things finally got rolling. I loved how they communicated and really took the time to get to know one another. The smexy between them was hot and to be honest they were kinda sickeningly sweet - you know that couple you want to hate because they are so cute and just good together but you can’t? Yeah that’s them.

Now. I’m still not in a headspace where I want to address that which I am still in denial about, but I will say that had I not been so invested in Colby and Rory, my reaction would be what it is and for that I must kowtow to Ms. Quinn. She brought these two to life with her words and made them pretty damn amazing. But now we wait…

”It’s the little things that matter the most.”

When Meghan Quinn Author told me she was writing a story she thought I’d enjoy, a military romance, I was over-the-top excited! I knew from the beginning that this story would be different—less humor, some heat, and more heart. Full of so much SWOON and SOUL, The Upside of Falling made me fall hard in love from the very first page and never stopped. The Upside of Falling HITS DEEP. I was ENAMORED with this full of depth and breadth love story! The Upside of Falling has ALL THE HEART in a story that strikes straight to the soul.

”I hope you give me a chance, give this a chance, because I think it could be something great.”

Colby and Rory!!! Whoa!!! I was seriously hooked on these characters who melted me so much! The broody and broken hero and fierce and full-of-life heroine stole my heart. Their connection was fierce from first sight like a magnet drawing them together. The Upside of Falling’s plot of many layers pulled me in like a pilot to his plane. Polarizing. Paralyzing. Passionate. Perfection. All the angst-burning PERFECTION!!!

”I like you, Rory, and that terrifies me.”

The Upside of Falling is a military romance but so much MORE: The Upside of Falling is a love story of two black and white lives suddenly splashed with color. The Upside of Falling is a hard-fought journey of strength and sacrifice, one of overcoming adversity, and learning to love and trust. The Upside of Falling is a paralyzing and passionate story of rising after falling, of taking that leap of love. The The Upside of Falling is EVERYTHING!!!

”Dream of me.”

My heart has been caught—captured by The Upside of Falling—as it glides through the air like a fighter jet, straight to Cloud Nine. An old school military romance, The Upside of Falling reminds me a bit of my own soldier love story, one that hit every part of my heart. This is one of the sweetest and most soulful slow burns you’ll ever read. I was BREATHLESS! The Upside of Falling is so BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN, such a stunning and soulful story.

”I know it deep in my bones that I was meant to meet you, and you were meant to be mine.”

SWEET SIGH. Meghan Quinn was right: I LOVED The Upside of Falling! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! Meghan ‘Master Storyteller’ Quinn has poured her heart into this story, and I can feel that passion and love through the words. In one HEART-SOARING STORY FULL OF FEELS, Meghan Quinn has aced the military romance trope. The military wife in me salutes this love story. I WAS BLOWN AWAY by a book that broke me in the best way!

Act in spite of your fear.

The Upside of Falling is, hands-down, a TOP 2018 ROMANCE!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 ’but worth all’ the heart-soaring stars

Meghan Quinn has honestly written herself a masterpiece with this book. The writing was so amazing and epic and I sit here overwhelmed with emotions after reading this book. Colby and Rory were fantastic. They were passionate and sexy and their back and forth banter (via letters) was charming. I could not get enough and that ending was OMG crazy and intense and just everything!!!

Colby was absolutely divine! He was the sum of everything I love in a military man - broody and stoic and closed off but once he gave love a chance, he was absolutely all in. And when he decided he was all in Rory did not see what was coming! He was just so romantic and glorious and *ALL THE SWOONS*. Without giving away any spoilers, I loved his story and the reason he was so focused on the Air Force and his initial reticence about getting involved with Rory. Likewise, I loved her persistence and the emotions that she evoked in him. But that ending- GOOD LORD! *DEAD* I seriously can't wait for book two to see how the duet concludes!!

All in all, this was fantastic! I urge EVERYONE to oneclick this today as it is intense, consuming and such an emotional book that will knock you flat out! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

***

Have you ever found yourself so driven to succeed, to do something big, that you’ve essentially block out everyone and everything until you complete your task? My husband calls this phenomenon “Missy reading every night—don’t attempt to speak to her because she won’t hear you.” Okay, I admit, I do get lost in a good book and depending upon my enjoyment, I may or may not hear if an explosion occurred outside my house. But anyway . . .

This is how Colby has lived the past four years. He’s bound and determined to make all his dreams come true, and nothing will get in the way of that. Until Rory.

Rory’s singularly focused on breaking through the protective barriers Colby has built around himself. She’s completely intrigued by Colby, intrigued by his resolve to push people away. And determined to really get to know the man underneath that hard shell.

And does she ever. But as they try to maneuver through their budding friendship and first hints of a relationship, can they work through what they both want out of life? Can they find a way to make it work?

So, I have to admit, while reading The Upside of Falling, yes, I was completely in the “don’t talk to me” zone. I couldn’t read it fast enough to see what happened between Colby and Rory. Would Colby realize that maybe just maybe letting Rory in wouldn’t really cause a distraction? And would Rory keep trying to break down Colby’s barriers to show him that love really could be worth it.

I found myself both cheering and cringing as their story progressed. Their romance was beautiful, loving and slowly built. I wanted to see them together, to really give things a chance to work. And I read with bated breath as their story unfolded. Be warned you may just want to have a drink or two handy, because you’re going to be taken on a crazy, wild ride! I cannot wait to see how things end up in The Downside of Love. ~ Missy, 4.5 stars

5 Heartfelt Stars

I have no words to describe how much I loved and enjoyed The Upside of Falling by Meghan Quinn.
The storyline is beautifully written, my interest is held from start to end and the characters Colby and Rory touched me so deeply, they'll always own a very special place in my heart.

This book, what can I say that won't spoil anything for you other than the plot is well paced, the characters are likable, relatable, emotional and they will bring out the feels with their story.
So many times I found myself swooning and sighing, these two share a very special connection that you can see and feel from the first moment their eyes meet. I loved watching them grow, fall in love, share some very deep and emotional times only to have my heart broken with that ending.

I'm going to be honest here and say I hate cliffhangers, my heart can't take the anxiety BUT author Meghan Quinn has the next book ready for us which is due to be released on July 5th (which happens to be my birthday, Thank you Meghan for the gift lol)
So trust me when I say you do not want to miss out on reading The Upside of Falling, you will laugh, you will swoon and you will cry.

All the stars for The Upside of Falling!
