Pulling off the ultimate con...if they can keep from pulling off their clothes

Keely McKay knows Jack and Jack Donohue is a certified pain in her Wranglers. The lone girl in the prolific McKay family, Keely needs another man giving her orders like she needs a hole in her boot. What she does need is a restoration specialist so she can open her physical therapy clinic and prove she's left her wild-child days behind. That means dealing with buttoned-down, uptight Jack.

Jack is this close to securing a career make-or-break project, until he learns his lack of marital status puts him out of contention. When the notoriously hot-tempered and hot-bodied Keely begs him for help, he proposes a crazy idea. He'll oversee her project if she acts the part of his loving fiance.

Their sizzling lust makes it all too easy to go from butting heads to knocking boots but outside the bedroom they're as mismatched as ever. The McKays remind Jack of the humble upbringing he left behind, and cowgirl Keely feels she doesn't measure up to Jack's big-city lifestyle.

When the dust settles, Jack and Keely must face the fact they're not fooling anyone but themselves or they'll risk losing the real deal.

Warning: this book contains one hot-blooded cowgirl and one cool-headed businessman in a stripped-down, revved-up game of sexual truth or dare.

Excellent in every way--the story, the plot, the characters, the snappy dialogue (loved the nicknames the H/h gave each other--"GQ" and "Buttercup"), the details, the love/hate relationship between the H/h, the smokin' hot love scenes...whew, I loved this book! Next to Cowgirl Up and Ride, this was my favorite LJ story from an overall excellent series.

This is former wild-child Keely McKay's story, the sassy, youngest (at 27) only girl in a family that includes five hunky, wild, protective older brothers and a bunch of male cousins. Keely's eager to make her mark outside the ranching McKay family, and she's done extremely well in her career as a physical therapist. She has a dream of opening her own clinic in her small Wyoming hometown, and has bought an historic, abandoned building that needs a lot of renovation before her dream can become a reality. But before her building can be rehabbed by her contractor cousins Chet and Remy, she needs the work to be supervised by a restoration expert-- her nemesis-- 6 foot 4 inches of tall, dark, buff, sexiness, architect Jack Donohue.

Jack is Keely's brother Carter's friend, and Keely has known him since she was 16 years old. Keely and Jack have never really gotten along, always sniping at each other, while denying that there was any attraction between them. At one time Keely dated his brother Justin, until he dumped her, following Jack's advice (another reason for Keely's dislike). Most recently, at brother Colt's wedding, Keely and Jack had an aborted, but very passionate encounter, which left Keely confused and with hurt feelings. Now, a couple of years after that incident, Jack is back in her life, and she needs him to oversee her project. Will Jack be willing to help her?

Jack, 34, is the total opposite of down-home country gal Keely. He's sophisticated, career obsessed, with no time for fun, friends, or even family. He's suits and wingtips to her jeans and cowboy boots, smooth jazz to her country music, and drives a Beemer to her trusty Ford truck. He's a loner, she's a people person...they argue, they fight, but boy oh boy, do they have the chemistry. Keely may need him for her project, but he has other more lucrative jobs to pursue, and he's out to one-up his former business partner who betrayed him with his ex girlfriend. One career making opportunity is closed to him because of his lack of marital status. But then he gets a crazy idea...if he oversees Keely's project, maybe she can act the part of his...fiancée? Will they be able to convince her skeptical friends and family that they are a couple suddenly in love? Will Jack's 'engagement' to down-home Keely be a help or hindrance in his career and the social events they must attend with his big-city acquaintances?

When Jack and Keely agree to the arrangement, you know it's just a matter of time before they'll give in to the lust they have for each other. And once they stop the bickering and hit the sheets...it's hot, hot HOT! But is it just sex and good times, or is something else developing? What happens if one (or both) of them fall for the other? Will feelings get hurt? Do these two have anything in common besides awesome sexual chemistry? Can the city boy and the country girl get along and communicate outside the bedroom?

I can't say enough good things about this hot little story. I loved the characters. Keely is hard working, brash, sassy, bold, and sexy, with a really big, generous heart. She does have a vulnerable side, which was nice to see. There was a scene where Jack's bitchy ex tore down her confidence, which almost broke my heart. I hated to see Keely think that she wasn't good enough for Jack.

Jack was a strong, sexy, but kind of uptight, driven guy--a loner who really needed a woman like Keely to open his eyes and teach him a thing or two about living. Keely brought out his fun side, loosened him up a lot, and I loved seeing how he was falling under her spell, even if it took him long enough to realize he was in love with her! He wasn't perfect, but he was real. He could be thoughtless and selfish at times (as could Keely), but that's the beauty of Lorelei James's writing--her characters are flawed, but you still love them because you really get to know them.

The heat factor in this book was HIGH. Jack and Keely were sexually adventurous (the shower, the truck, the men's room) and set the sheets on fire in every conceivable way. Their relationship may have started out as sex for the sake of sex, but it didn't take long for romantic feelings to develop (even if they were reluctant to tell each other). They were perfect for each other, and I couldn't put the book down until I knew they realized it too.

Fans of the series--this is a must read, and I'm sure you'll find it as un-put-downable as I did! Most of the extended McKay family makes an appearance (get out that family tree!), and I loved catching up on the brothers, cousins, and their wives, and just how rapidly they reproduce. You'll fall in love with Keely and Jack, and root hard for their HEA. This is one fast paced, sexy read. My rating is a no-brainer--5 big stars!

"My" GQ man and Jack of all trades:

Interesting tidbit: Jack's b-day is April 4th and Keely's is May 23rd. My aunt Lina's b-day is April 4th and mine is May 23rd. What does that mean? Absolutely nothing, LOL.

Loved it! Jack and Keely were a great couple who liked to fight sometimes and they definitely heated up the sheets in the bedroom. There was a lot of emotion in the book as they work their way from hate to lust then love. There were a lot of funny scenes and lines that made me crack up. The emotional end even made me tear up a bit too. Another amazing story in this great series!

There is no ménage or m/m in this book.

This is my favourite in the series!
Keely and Jack were on fire, in all ways. They sniped at each other, lots, made me laugh, they were gentle and they were damn hot!
Of course Keely being the sister of the McKay boys, i was looking forward to this one. The sister story always seems to be the best?!?!
Loved it :)

I don't even know where to start with this one. I absolutely loved it and it's my second favorite Rough Riders book (after Tied Up, Tied Down). I loved the plot, I loved the characters, and I love the way it all turned out.

The relationship between Keely and Jack was an amazing thing to read about. To see them going from hating each other to friends and lovers to being in love was quite an amazing transformation. It was great to see the way they worked together, the way they helped each other and genuinely cared for each other. Also, it was great to see Jack and Keely go from being two separate people to one, united being, a couple who missed each other during the shortest time apart.

Individually, I also loved Jack and Keely. I've loved Keely since the first book of the series and have been waiting in eager anticipation for her story to come along. She has always been independent, free-spirited, and strong while also being loving, caring, and giving. She's sassy and smart yet not at all annoying. So this book just made me love her even more, and I loved seeing all the different sides to Keely, not just the ones that her brothers and cousins saw. There are so many facets to her that it was interesting to see them all, especially the vulnerable side. Keely seems so larger than life, so confident in herself and her abilities that one would think she never had a vulnerable, self-conscious moment. Jack is the same way. Every time we've seen him so far, Jack has been Carter's illustrious, aloof best friend and the man that Keely hates. But with this book we also get to see Jack's vulnerable side. We get to see him being confident but also nervous, laying his heart on the line. It was great to watch him go from a man who thought he had the world in his hands, who could get anything he wanted, to a man who was prepared to beg for the woman he loved, a man who was willing to do anything to keep her. And when they both admitted that they'd had feelings for each other since Keely was sixteen? I melted. So. Sweet.

There were of course some sad parts. First being when Keely and Jack separated for three weeks and she told him not to call. I'm pretty sure my heart broke. Then when he came back and they had that explosive fight about the job he lost and Keely threw the engagement ring at him. Then when all the McKay brothers came to take their...revenge? against Jack for hurting Keely. While I certainly admired the fact that they were defending their sister, it made me frustrated to read about it because I just wanted Jack to get to Keely right now so they could make up! Oh, and don't even get me started on that bitch Martine...

I have to say, though, I loved, loved that Jack called Carson to help him after he screwed up with Keely and that Carson chewed out all the McKay boys for what they did to Jack before he got a chance to talk to Keely. It made smile. Oh Carson, you adorable man!

Like I said, this was a great book and I'm kind of sad that it's ended. However, I rest assured because I know that there is more Jack and Keely to come in a small novella called Slow Ride that Lorelei James wrote about their wedding reception.

Favorite book of the series! Five plus stars!

Keely McKay has hated this stuffy businessman since her brother befriended him eons ago......Jack (aka Jack-off) Donahue. She dated his brother years ago and Jack's the reason Justin dumped her. She can't be in the same room as Jack without spewing insults at him..... And the feelings are mutual (aren't they?).

When Keely buys a rundown building to open as her new physical therapy clinic, she finds out it has to be approved by a restoration specialist through every phase of the process. No big deal.....until the specialist walks through the door and she sets eyes on Jack-off Donahue. He's equally unimpressed she's his new job to oversee......but he doesn't HAVE to take it on. What's in it for him? He's got a proposition for Keely. He needs her to pretend to be his fiancée to get a huge project in Colorado to a very old fashioned, down home firm that values family over all else. If he shows this firm he's the family man they aim to find, he's got the job of his lifetime! But will Keely agree to lie to everyone she knows just to get the building and career she's always dreamed about off the ground? They can't stand to be within breathing distance of each other, how can they pull off an engagement?

I loved this story. These two have a long history in the previous books of hatred for each other. Their banter is comical. He's as stuffy, uptight as she is a mouthy cowgirl with her skintight jeans and shitkicker boots. They're like fire and ice. And it's awesome when those two come together! Their energy fighting is quickly spent in other, more fun activities. Hint hint.

This book has more back and forth angsty stuff than the erotica found in the other books in Rough Riders. Some of the other books where really heavy on the sex.....although this book has a lot of awesome scenes, I was enthralled in the love story more than anything. Their obvious differences attracting each other was off the hook combustible when they did come together. This book had all of the past book's characters in it......Cord, Colt, Carter, Cam, and Colby each individually threatening to gut Jack if he hurt their baby sister. It was so sweet....their protectiveness of all things Keely.

But can a wild child cowgirl get lassoed by the uptight, rich, uber hot businessman? We shall see......

I loved this chapter in the colorful McKay family. Even though I was a bit disappointed how "hickish" Keely seemed to be in her own story when in all of the other books she always seemed a bit more refined then the rest of the clan. This was only minor for me, and really didn't take anything away from this fantastic story between Sexy as heck Jack and Keely.

I loved the interaction between these two right up until the end when Jack finally realizes what he has known all along. He has always wanted a firecracker like Keely in his life. Not only wanted, but needed her!

Some who have read the book don't seem to like the mentioning the whole cast of characters, but I liked it. It made the story seem more real. I would like to see a little "soap opera" aging take place on all of the kids and for Ms. James to start another series. Of course I am going to need another family tree.

All Jacked Up continues my love affair with the Lorelei James’s McKay family. What can I say I am a cowboy romance hero convert thanks to her Rough Rider series. This review is going to be rather short, but sweet because I LOVED absolutely everything about this story.

I loved Jack. I love his drive for success despite his ill conceived intentions. He is like so many Americans who live to work and the concept of “more” is never enough. Yet despite this flaw, and even though he’s a little bit Dom, he’s a whole lot sweet underneath all of his tough GQ exterior. Love him!

And Keely…she’s who I would like to be when I grow up. Even if I am already waaaay older than she is supposed to be. She is who she is and does not make apologies for her life or how she chooses to lead it. And lead it she has. We have had glimpses of her character in most of the Rough Rider books. She’s fun, and caring, and no one does more for her family than she does. She’s the exact opposite to Jack. She works to live and her work is her passion.

I loved that the sparks flew, despite the obvious attraction because both had fallen into a pattern of baiting bad behavior from each other. And unlike a lot of contemporary romances where the heat level is high, the evolution of their relationship is not based solely on sex. The reader isn’t left wondering how they went from barely tolerating each others presence....to realizing they love each other just because of a few tussles between the sheets so to speak. You get to experience how they transform from enemies, to partners in crime, to lovers, and finally to being “in love” with each other. It’s one of the things I loved most about this story.

For me, this was a perfect romance read. It had everything that I love about a romance no matter the genre. There is not one thing that I wish were different….except for this: I hated for it to end. I was left basking in the glow of a reader high…a romance euphoria if you will. I hated to start another book. I knew I was going to loose that joy of just having completed reading a fantastic story. It would be inevitable that the next book couldn't possibly live up to my experiences while reading All Jacked Up. So what was my solution to this dilemma you might ask? I read a different book by Lorelei James that I had not read yet :) Sadly, I’ve now read her backlist and will have to patiently wait until next year for her new book, Corralled: A Blacktop Cowboys Novel, which I happen to already have on pre-order at Amazon because I am just that impatient to get my booklover hands on it! To summarize...All Jacked Up is one of my favorite reads of the year.

Ratings: 5.0 stars (if I could give it more I would!)

p.s. if you haven’t read any of the previous Rough Riders series, I highly recommend them, but unlike some of the others I DO think you can read this one as a stand alone and not feel lost amidst all of the secondary characters that comprise the McKay and West families.

The purpose is erotic sex. 4 stars for that. And the story is pretty good.

STORY BRIEF:
Keely grew up on a ranch in Wyoming. She wears cowboy clothes, spends time with her horse, drives a pick-up truck, drinks beer, and is in a dart throwing league. She is a physical therapist who recently bought a building. She wants to rehab it and open a medical center. Because it’s a historic landmark, she is required to hire an architect specializing in restoration. Jack is the only one available in the area. She hates Jack.

Jack wants the job overseeing a large restoration project in Utah, but the owners have rigid morality issues. They won’t hire a bachelor. When Keely asks him to oversee her project, he agrees only if she’ll pretend to be his fiancé to help him get the Utah job. She reluctantly agrees. Now they have to act like they love each other and learn about each other.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
I loved their banter as they were getting to know each other. For example when Keely is guessing what Jack’s favorite movies are, she says “Jackass” and “The Jerk.” She’s a ranch girl and sees Jack as the metrosexual type. She calls him GQ. It was entertaining. I was pleased when the author used a good reason to separate them later instead of inaccurate assumptions (which are too frequently used). In general I’d say it’s a pretty good story. The main purpose of course is sex, and those scenes are hot and frequent. They are explicit and include rear door activity. If that’s what you’re looking for, go for it.

If I might suggest: it would have been nice to see some revenge against Martine, she was despicable.

DATA:
Story length: 265 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 15. Approximate number of sex scene pages: 30. Setting: current day Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. Copyright: 2010. Genre: erotic contemporary western romance.

The eighth offering in James' popular Rough Riders series, All Jacked Up pits wild child Keely McKay against the buttoned-up Jack Donaghue in an explosive battle of wills. I would argue it's James' strongest offering to date.

Keely, looking to shed her wild child status, bought a derelict historic building she's looking to renovate and turn into a health clinic. Historic preservation rules require a certified restoration specialist to oversee the project, and Jack's the man for the job. Despite a history of antagonism between them, Jack agrees to take on the job, with a small caveat - that they get engaged. Jack needs to play the part of a family man to get a large contract in conservative Utah, and Keely needs a restoration specialist. Thusly, a sham engagement is born, and hijinks ensue.

All Jacked Up is a treat to read from start to finish. James builds sexual tension up slowly and stretches the emotional conflict to span the entire book. There are no superfluous sex scenes here like in some previous books. Each scene peels another layer of their defenses away, revealing the happy couple buried far beneath.

Each character maintains their personalities. They begin the book two hot heads and they end the book as hot heads. James avoided turning one or the other into an acquiescent limp rag. Instead, they continue to bicker, but the bickering changes in tone and the make up sex gets hotter as their attachment grows. These two are that couple you know who love to argue all the time, but are unequivocally devoted to each other, even if they'd never admit it out loud. James has them work through their insecurities to get what they both want, but aren't brave enough to ask for.

Like previous books in the series, All Jacked up does suffer from a Parade of Past Protagonists. Anyone picking this up as a standalone would be dizzy trying to keep track of the secondary characters and their army of offspring, who truthfully add little to the story beyond fan service (not that kind.) If James had focused on a smaller circle of her family and friends, rather than inundating the book with every relation she's created, it would have made for a much tighter narrative.

All told, I found this to be the strongest book in the series. The focus on the hero and heroine was refreshing and their issues were worked through thoroughly, slowly and believably.

I loved this! My very first Lorelei James. I've been dodging this series for a while because I was worried that it would be a disappointment. From other reviews it was a given that there would be amazing sex scenes and I was concerned it wouldn't deliver the love story that I need, but I have to say that I seriously underestimated Lorelei James.

This writer is so funny. Keely was just amazing. She is full of fire and sassy attitude. Being a quiet and more in the background type of person myself, I really admired her because she said things that I probably would only think - I loved her! The sparring dialogue between Jack and Keely was just excellent and really had me laughing out loud.

The characters had a lot of depth and the love story was sweet and romantic once they had slaked their lust. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy hot love scenes as much as the next girl but I HAVE to believe in the romance and their chemistry for the love scenes to work for me.

I'm rebelling against my anal nature and reading this series out of order, so I can't wait to work backwards and learn about some of the characters that I met in this book.

a) Jack
b) Jack
c) Jack

Yes, right answer! Joking aside this was just so good. I love it when a book can make me laugh out load, and this did just that. Love the family connections and bantering. Of course the McKay cowboys are an added extra bonus.

To my friends Karla and Kellie, you said I would love this book and it was special; well you guys were right. Thanks girls, I loved it!

All Jacked Up by Lorelei James

The Rough Rider Series by Lorelei James is one of my favorite erotica guilty pleasures. A bunch of alliteration-inspired cowboys (Cord, Colby, Cash, Kade, Colt, Cameron, and on and on....) have all sorts of kinky, naughty, wild adventures on the ranch, in the barn, on the dining room table, against a wall. You get the idea. James has tapped into a winning idea with this series....a tight-knit family and all of their friends (so you get tons of awesome secondary characters) dealing with real-life troubles (lots of good conflict) get to exhibit their Neanderthal alpha male tendencies with the sassy gals who are leading them on a merry, merry chase (super hot sexy times). Some of the books have M/M relationships, and some have multi-partner groups, etc. I like my cowboy sex old-fashioned and simple: One man, one woman, and some fringe-y chaps.

Anyhoo, this book was a total winner. James has created some very unique characters in this story...Keely is a bad-girl on the outside, but a hard working, ambitious gal on the inside, and tired of living with her over-bearing family's constant interference. She has a dream and she's willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it. "Whatever it takes" is entering into a fake engagement (one of my fav themes) with Jack Donohue, a super competitive and sexy workoholic "suit" who might not be wearing a cowboy hat, but his alpha-male dominating personality is just as crazy as the rancher boys. Unlike some erotica that skimps on the character arcs and storyline, this book has it all. The story is solid, and I love how both of these characters come to terms with their own shortcomings and needs, as well as falling in love (and lust) with each other. The huge black moment fight-from-hell scene at the end is one of the best I've read, and the follow-up between Keely's brothers and Jack is fantastic.

There is snappy dialogue, perfect pacing, incredibly hot sex scenes, and even an evil villainess in high-heeled pumps. My only beef with the story is that the bitchy villainess doesn't get what's coming to her (I'm a vengeful gal, and I like to see pay-back), and the epilogue was sort of lame, IMO. Otherwise, this book is close to perfect. Sexy, funny, and satisfying.

Giddy up, cowboy! Lorelei James has created another winner.

Grade: A

5 Big Jacked Up Stars!! Just when I think this series can’t get any better…well slap me upside the head…along comes Keely and Jack’s book, to prove me wrong.

This is by far the most entertaining book, with witty, snappy dialogue and the ‘family’ making appearances left and right. Voicing their opinions on the engagement, even if though the betrothed couple doesn’t want hear it, especially Jack. The ‘Cowboy Mafia’, aka Keely’s brothers and dad, let Jack know that one wrong step…and they’ll take care of him in their own special way.

The development of Jack and Keely’s relationship is sensual and heartwarming. Keely’s snarky attitude and comments just about undo Jack because it turns him on. His GQ style and cocky attitude rubbed Keely in the wrong way in the past…or did it? He’s so not like the rumble tumble cowboys that she has had at her beck and call over the years, and it seems that Jack is the one in charge…maybe. Of course the resistance and resilience from the feistiest of the McKays, is what makes this book so much fun. An enjoyable journey as they discover their true feelings for each other. Oh did I mention these two are hot together…SMOKIN!!

Lorelei James never ceases to surprise me. She makes me want to pack up move to Wyoming and find a McKay of my own.

LOVED IT!! Jack is not a McKay but that didn't matter at all! I loved loved loved these two together! The witty comebacks, the pure hatred sparayed from their mouths towards each other, then the whole friends to lovers thing.. they were just amazing.. Even when they knew they loved each other but wouldn't admit it.. I literally laughed, cried, gasped and blushed ALOT during this book.
All the big brothers in this are beautiful! loved the classic line.. "If you hurt her, I'll gut you." Even from Carson!!

It was really good to get Keeley's side of things, why she is always busy or just "popping" up in the other books in places she shouldn't be.
But good lord! How many freaking babies! Ive lost count and can't keep up.. I had to hit up the LJ Website and hit up the McKay family tree! ha ha (Nope not lying! lol)

I swear its like the older original McKay men (Carson, Calvin, Casper, Charlie) sat down with all their sons and cousins and taught them everything they needed to know about thre birds and the bee's.. Positions, how to go all night! etc, They all seem to have the same style but different but very close (make sense).. I would sign up to that school!

ok but back to the book.. I loved the ending.. I really did... the brothers.. Carson... Keely... Jack...

but most of all Keely and Jack!

Holy fucking shit. That trussed up form was Jack.
"Omigod! Please tell me you didn't kill him!"
"Jesus, Keely. Give us some credit. If we woulda killed him, you never would've known", Colby said.
"Yeah, we definitely wouldn't have brought the body here", Cam scoffed.

I’ve been reading Lorelei James’ Rough Riders series for about a month now. I pretty much fell hard with book one, and haven’t gotten back up. All Jacked Up is the eighth book in the series, which will see its tenth book, Cowgirls Don’t Cry, in November 2010.

The series revolves around two ranching families in modern-day Wyoming, the McKay’s and the West’s. Keely McKay is the prodigal daughter of the McKay clan, who we watch grow from a fresh from college wild-child in the earlier books, to a grown woman pursuing a responsible career that will no doubt impact the greater good of her entire Wyoming community.

We get small tidbits of Jack Donahue throughout the Rough Riders series but his details are kept to a bare minimum—just enough that we know Keely more or less hates him, and her favorite nickname for him says it all: Jack-off.

Being that Jack is the best friend to one of Keely’s older brothers, their relationship has been building over the course of the Rough Riders series. Going in to All Jacked Up, I expected a certain amount of volatile interaction between Jack and Keely, since their side stories in the previous books allude to this. What I got was a classic case of opposites attract.

Let me rephrase that: Keely and Jack are opposites attract meets five shots of tequila and a Molotov cocktail.

From the very first scene, Jack and Keely fight. And by fight, I mean balls-to-the-wall tongue lashings, and not in the “sexual” sense of the phrase—at least not at first. Keely and Jack’s harsh words and hilarious cut-lows are some of the funniest lines I’ve read in any book recently. Of all the books in this series, this one that had me laughing constantly.

Jack has a tough Alpha male exterior that only Keely seems to be able to penetrate. Speaking of penetrate—there’s plenty of that too!

When Keely and Jack are suddenly put in a position to work together in order to get something they both desperately need to boost their careers, they end up in a fake engagement to one another and must make their families, friends and colleagues believe they’re in it for the long haul.

All Jacked Up is currently tied for my favorite with book five of the series, Rough, Raw and Ready. I’ve adored Keely from pretty much the first time she came on the scene way back in book one. Her snarky, comedic banter makes her the most interesting character in the series IMHO. Being a little sister myself, I connected to Keely in the fact that sometimes big brothers think they know what’s best for us, even when we’re sure we can stand on our own two feet. Keely has five big brothers—which is pretty much my worst nightmare.

What I loved about All Jacked Up, is the way the hero and heroine grow together. For a book to be believable, I think character growth is one of the most vital ingredients. Keely and Jack have technically been growing throughout a time frame of well over a decade in the Rough Riders series since they actually meet when Keely is just 16. Once they're thrust into a very adult situation in All Jacked Up, their growth is based on learning to put aside old beefs, and accepting how something neither thought they wanted, is actually everything they need.

Overall, every book in this series is a fun, sexy, fast read. If you don’t think you’re into cowboys, don’t knock em’ till you try em, because I can pretty much guarantee you’ll love them after you read book one of Rough Riders!

Spoiler Ahead This was book 8 in the "Rough Rider" series. Keely McKay the lone girl in the McKay family needs someone to restore a building so she can open up her physical therapy clinic. Jack Donohue has always been a pain in her but he needs a wife so when she ask him to help her he agrees if she will agree to pretend to be his fiancée a deal struck now let the games begin. I really liked both of the character's in this book Keely is a former wild child who wants to prove that it is all behind her or is it. Jack and Keely have a love hate relationship going on that turns out to be anything but hate and as sparks fly between these two they get hot and heavy I mean really hot and down and dirty. I loved Jacks drive for success and he is willing to do whatever he needs to do in order to succeed. Keely is fun, and caring, and no one does more for her family than she does. She's the exact opposite to Jack. She works to live and her work is her passion helping others. I love reading this series this book was well written like the other books in this series with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

This is not the best offering in the series, but I wanted to read it because I wanted to know what happens to the characters. That is the good and the bad of a continuing series.

Keely and Jack need to communicate better, and to be a little more introspective. If they better understood their own motivations, the book would have lasted six pages.

For those who follow the series, all of our favorite wives are expecting again.

I absolutely loved this one. I had been waiting for ages to read Keely's story and I wasn't disappointed. Plenty of story and of course loads of hot sweaty steamy sex :)

I enjoyed the steamy story with a decent plot around all the sexy times. Hero and heroine have a volatile history with lots of negative emotion and overcoming disagreements is important aspect of a relationship. Jack needs to appear as a family man to get a contract and Keely needs him to oversee her construction project so he proposes they get engaged.

I loved this book to pieces and to be honest I couldn't wait to read it.

"Pulling off the ultimate con…if they can keep from pulling off their clothes.

Keely McKay knows Jack—and Jack Donohue is a certified pain in her Wranglers. The lone girl in the prolific McKay family, Keely needs another man giving her orders like she needs a hole in her boot. What she does need is a restoration specialist so she can open her physical therapy clinic—and prove she’s left her wild-child days behind. That means dealing with buttoned-down, uptight Jack.

Jack is this close to securing a career make-or-break project, until he learns his lack of marital status puts him out of contention. When the notoriously hot-tempered and hot-bodied Keely begs him for help, he proposes a crazy idea. He’ll oversee her project—if she acts the part of his loving fiancée.

Their sizzling lust makes it all too easy to go from butting heads to knocking boots—but outside the bedroom they’re as mismatched as ever. The McKays remind Jack of the humble upbringing he left behind, and cowgirl Keely feels she doesn’t measure up to Jack’s big-city lifestyle.

When the dust settles, Jack and Keely must face the fact they’re not fooling anyone but themselves—or they’ll risk losing the real deal."

Keely is used to being queen bee in the family, but I have to say she met her match in this book. Jack is not only her match but has secretly wanted Keely all along. Going from not being able to stand each other to not being able to get enough from each other was a great story line. I loved how her family stood by her in making this choices and when her brothers happen to take matters in their hands when they think their baby sister has been hurt.

Lorelei James filled this book with not only romance, love, and devotion but also tons of witty comments. I was laughing at some of the things Keely said to Jack and his comebacks were off the charts amusing. Finding out as the series goes on about the prior characters is not only interesting but insightful. Who wouldn't want to find out more about the Mckay Family and what they have been up to.

If you haven’t read any of the previous Rough Riders series, I highly recommend them. Regardless if you read them in order or out-of-order it's not hard to keep up with these cowboys/ cowgirls and how they finally get tamed. This was a great read. It is for sure rereading material. Now off to get started on Raising Kane.

I have read a lot of books about getting engaged or married for reasons other than love and other than Outlander, this has got to be one of my favorites. Keely and Jack are PERFECT for each other. I LOVED this story. And...he he he....my predictions on how the rest of the McKay/West clan would handle the McKay wild child being "tamed", as her mom put it were not even as close or funny to the real thing. Take a look:

Cameron McKay: "If you cause her a moment's pain, I will gut you. Understand?"

Cord McKay: "Here's where I'm comin' from. If you do a single damn thing to hurt her, I will gut you."

Colby McKay: "Consider this your one and only warnin', Donahue. You ever hurt her, I'll gut you."

Colt McKay: "So long as you're hidin' over here, I wanna take the opportunity to tell you if you harm a single hair on Keely's head, I will gut you."

Carter McKay: "If I ever get the barest whisper you've hurt her in any way, well, fair warning, I'm gonna gut you, Donohue, old friend or not. Dig?"

And who better than daddy...

Carson McKay: "Guttin' you would be too easy and not nearly painful enough. Think about it, son, because I guarantee I have been."

Yeah, if I were Jack, I'd be scared too if I were threatened by the six most important men in Keely's life within a 24-hour period. I would not expect anything less from these guys protecting their little sister...I just didn't expect to laugh so hard! But seriously, this is now my favorite RR book of the series. It was really, really great and had a lot of new material that is untried in this series as of yet, a lot of really touching sweet romance and emotion, funny as hell scenes, set-the-mattress/truck bed/parents'house/shower on fire sex as usual, and...a lot of previews of, as it was so aptly put, the next generation of McKay hellraisers. This series could go on for a long time and I so hope it does because it's just a fun, sexy, great series!

And this for a great picture at the end...Devil's Tower, Wyoming:

I have to say that I was so distracted by the cowboys that Keely's story I did not see her coming and she was there all the time. This girl is simply great and maybe for that reason sometimes it seems that it is not but I love the couple that makes with Jack and the way they are developing as lovers. Jack for his part was quite a surprise and if I do not finish with a cowboy, an architect like him does not hurt me badly. And Carson did it again...surprise, surprise!!!

This one was my absolute favorite in the Rough Rider series!! I've been intrigued and sort of "crushing" on Jack Donohue since we first met him in the 2nd Rough Rider book, Rode Hard, Put Up Wet. He was Carter McKay's "big city" best friend and when he told Carter that he would never fall for a cowgirl i thought...ooohhh..he is SO gonna fall in love w/ a cowgirl! I was so excited to see that it was Keely, the baby and only girl in the McKay clan!! These two had had a "hate" relationship for years...which made the banter between these two so funny and when they finally gave into their true feelings for each other..it was so sweet and romantic and HOT!!! I LOVED IT!!

This was by far the best in the RR series to date. A smoking hot hero, an amazing heroine, a fake engagement and scorching hot chemistry - I mean what is not to love? This was HOT but it was much more focused on them as a couple and very much like a contemporary romance. Big blazing five stars!
