SPOTLIGHT ON NT EVENTS

Australians will be encourage to choose the NT for their next holiday through an upcoming tourism campaign promoting the Northern Territory’s festivals and events. The print and digital campaign running from March to June 2017, highlights some of the Territory's unique regional festivals and events to give people more reasons to visit the NT and stay longer when they're here.

OVATION OF THE SEAS VIDEO

A huge thank you to everyone who helped give an amazing welcome to the Ovation of the Seas in Darwin last week. With 4000 passengers and 1500 crew on board, the visit delivered a bumper day for tourism in the Top End, watch our highlights video above.

GOLDEN NIGHT FOR NT AT QATAS

Local tourism operators did the Northern Territory proud at the 2016 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards taking home two gold awards, two silver and three bronze. The Awards night was extra special for the NT, held in Darwin for the very first time.

MILLION DOLLAR FISH WIN FOR NT

The second season of the NT Government's Million Dollar Fish competition finished on 28 February with eight lucky winners taking home $80,000 in prize money. More than 45,000 people registered for Season 2 with the $1 Million barra tag number revealed to be number 2656.

TOURISM AUSTRALIA BRIEFING

Thank you to all operators who attended Tourism Australia's briefing in Darwin last week. If you couldn't make the briefing, Tourism Australia has uploaded its presentation online. The briefing provides an update on current and future activity as well as research from key international markets.

BUSINESS EVENTS UPDATE

The NT Convention Bureau will be holding Industry Updates in Alice Springs on 29 March and in Darwin on 30 March. The briefings are open to any operators that work in the business events area and are an opportunity to learn more about the NT Convention Bureau's upcoming marketing activity.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

NT WINS TRAVEL AWARD IN CHINA

The Northern Territory has been named 'The Best International Potential Destination 2016' in the 'Top Spots' category at the recent China Travelers' Forum. The forum is held annually in conjunction with Ctrip, China's largest online travel agency and leading provider of travel services, with over seven million votes cast. This is fantastic recognition from the Chinese travel community for the Northern Territory.

CHINA READY PROGRAM

It was great to see so many NT operators attend a free one-day China Ready workshop in Darwin last week, run by Atrip Hub NT through support by the Northern Territory Government. The workshop will help operators to attract more Chinese visitors through China Ready translation and development of digital content.

EUROPE MISSION

Tourism NT's Central Europe Roadshow is now underway kicking off with 14 Northern Territory tourism operators attending the world’s biggest travel trade show, the International Tourism Borse (ITB) in Berlin. The Central Europe Mission also includes Tourism Australia’s Australia Marketplace in Los Angeles.

TARGETING JAPAN

NT products and eperiences were recently promoted at the Walkabout Japan 2017 event. Japan is a key emerging market for the Northern Territory and the event saw Tourism NT participate in scheduled appointments and seminar presentations to Japanese retail and reservation staff as well as key Japanese Buyers.

EVENTS UPDATE

PARRTJIMA BACK IN 2017

The Northern Territory Government will present the second annual Parrtjima – A Festival in Light event in Alice Springs from Friday 22 September to Sunday 1 October 2017. The free event will feature an expanded program that celebrates the magnificent Aboriginal art of Central Australia.

TIWI ISLANDS ON SHOW

The Tiwi Islands will be on show this month with the Tiwi Islands Football Grand Final and Annual Art Sale set to attract hundreds of people to the Islands. The event on Sunday 19 March is the biggest highlight on the Tiwi calendar each year, showcasing the best of Tiwi sport and culture.
