McConnell: 'We are not going to allow any cuts to the Appalachian Regional Commission'

In an interview with WYMT Saturday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) said he opposes cuts to the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).
President Donald Trump proposed slashing federal funding to the ARC in his budget plan. The organization was founded in 1965 to promote economic development and infrastructure in rural areas.
"We are not going to allow any cuts to the Appalachian Regional Commission," McConnell said. "It is very important to Eastern Kentucky. It has been for a number of years. That's not going to happen."
Rep. Hal Rogers (R- 5th District) released a statement saying he will advocate for sufficient funding for the ARC and similar programs:
