Seat 2A

Rate this book
When Jessie Evans, a Georgia Southern University cheerleader, leaves for her best friend’s wedding the last thing she expects is for the seat next to her to be taken. After all, she’d only canceled Seat 2A hours prior after catching her boyfriend cheating.

Kendal Vargas, son of a Spanish emigrant fashion guru, is on his way to Whistler for a “mancation”. Running to buy a neck pillow before his flight, Kendal bumps into Jessie Evans. Kendal is in a hurry. Kendal does not stop to help her. Kendal forgot his neck pillow and the plane is about to leave and hey—who could travel without a neck pillow?

Charmed by Jessie’s beauty, and watching her board his very plane, Kendal takes a whim and changes his seat to one he hopes would be next to her. Jessie ignores Kendal’s attempt to be chatty but when their connecting flight gets canceled overnight, the pair has a chance to make a real connection.

Seven years later, Jessie bumps into Kendal in the produce aisle of a Portland grocery store. No neck pillow is involved, except there is a beautiful little girl who looks just like him. Fate has given them another shot but will Kendal’s whims keep them apart?

Welcome, ma bookish peeps! I'm Dela, and if you love tacos, neon lights, and snowboarding, then we're going to get along just fine. If we had a book to talk about then even better.

I love reading all genres so I guess that makes me a reading mutt? I'm digging high fantasy right now, thanks to Maas's obsession with faeries, but my true love will always be for historical fiction. And anything Aztec/Mayan...oooh baby.

Speaking of baby, I took my first jab at Contemporary Romance. And can I tell you what a relief it was to write something light and not so dark?! I'm thinking I'll need to write them more often...

➳Dela not only brings a new contemporary romance to dive in for, but she also brings messages of second changes and how powerful they can when you meet your one true love in this magnificent love story of Jessie and Kendall…

➳Meeting as a form of destiny and fate is what Jessie and Kendall experience. Their encounters are ones that you really do not see so often, but yet again this is a fictional story after all. However, the plot twists and different view points are what make this story beyond compelling and emotional. Not only do blockades become a mayor factor for both characters, but they also become a thriven truth of what their paths are meant to be and how they go there. After finding out that her boyfriend was cheating on her, Jessie decides to leave early and visit her friend in Canada for her wedding weekend. During that time of waiting at the airport, Jessie encounters a cocky man who definitely does not need his ego boosted or rubbed- Kendall. At first, first name encounters are off the table. They get to know each other personally. The power of trusting each other is there, making them both very likable due to their common interests. Though they are both flying to the same place, their paths separate throughout the story, but rekindle again in ways that one would not expect.

➳After an unfortunate incident that happened to Kendall, his departure away from the strong chemistry he had for Jessie had to take a pause. Though this said incident took place, his mind was filled with those small memories of Jessie with him during his small visit and “mancation” in Canada. Time passes, three years really, and Kendall and Jessie reunite once again due to fate and total coincidence. However, Jessie now has a future in which her past lead her to. A present and a future in which she has to question now with the re-appereance of Kendall.

➳Overall this was such a sweet and romantic story. I was definitely not expecting anything from what the plot twists portrayed and Dela did just such an incredible job writing that. This book kept me on my toes and kept me wanting to turn the page for the finale. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a second chance type of story.

Major Spoilers & a Major Rant.
The book takes place over a seven-year time span which is okay no problems there on my part. The blurb though in my opinion is misleading it implies and this is what I understood that they spent the night together I thought I must have missed their one night of passion but I kept reading and still nothing happened.
Maybe she is the Mary and the Holy Spirit visited her but alas that also was not the case. The result was a little girl that looked exactly like the hero turns out though that the little girl is his niece. WTF? I was expecting a surprise pregnancy. I was not a happy bunny.

Strike One!

I liked how they first met at the airport and how they got to know one another. They both travel to Whistler, Jessie for a wedding and Kendal for a mancation. Before they swap numbers, Kendal has to leave as his father was in accident. She finds out that he is famous on national TV and is to chicken shit to go after him.
He tries to find her but she gave him a fake name and the wedding was also booked under a false name. Huh what are the odds right? But at least he tried. So, his years of taking over the emporium and having to be in a committed relationship otherwise he loses his inheritance. But he was up for call girls and booze each night that is until fate intervenes and they meet again. Jessie is in a relationship. Kendal pursues her they kiss so she's cheated physical and emotionally on her boyfriend. Kendal pulls the brakes and says it isn't right.

Strike Two!

On top of that for added drama they all run in the same circles. Kendal’s sisters husband is friends with Colby, Colby is Jessie’s boyfriend/ex-boyfriend. So, Gizelle decides that it would be a great idea to go away for the weekend. She invites the triangle situation and two random girls. Well not really that random they met at yoga. But really?
Bianca one of the randoms hits on Kendal he says no but she wouldn't mind if Jessie joined them. To entice him more to get him into bed. He also puts a stop to that. Where the hell did that come from and is it necessary? How does it add to the story? Quite simple really it doesn't.

Strike Three!

You'd think I'd tap out, right? Nope I don't care how naff this book is I was determined to finish it. I couldn't handle another DNF or another disappointing read. Okay so I still got the disappointing read but hey.
But the drama continues Colby the ex and Kendal fight over Jessie. Well actually over a jar of pickles and they die but the fight morphs into Jessie being the toy that they both want. which is like being in Kindergarten. This is where I realized that I fall in the four moods above and that I am too old for this shite.

You think I’ve finished, ah NO Kendal has commitment issues so obviously, he fucks up but realizes that he has fucked up and makes amends. The fuck up is that Jessie proposes and he goes apeshit. I have somewhat memory loss when it comes to that part of the book. They do get a HEA/HFN.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.

Where do I start. This book started out really good. The way Kendal and Jessie meet is really nice and how they kept running into each other was cute. One thing I liked was that they didn't rush anything and tried to get to know each other. Something happens and they lose touch.

Seven years later they see each other again and this is where my rating started dropping. I found the characters to be a bit immature and childish for certain situations. The secondary characters were a bit annoying and clueless and could have gone without being so involved.

The ending was beautiful but I expected more; besides that it was a cute read and they were moments that would make you laugh and others that you would be "did I really just read that"? But it's not bad for a second chance romance.

What if coincidences were fate and destiny at play? What if it was trying to tell you something, but you missed all the signs? Would you hold on to the "one-day" thought or would you just let that moment pass you by and in the future view it as a missed opportunity - the one that got away? Jessie had her friend's wedding planned and was going to attend it with her boyfriend, that was until she caught him cheating just before the flight was to depart. Now prepared for an empty seat next to her, Jessie is going to wallow. However someone has other plans - Kendall on a whim watches Jessie and wants to know her, so he takes Seat 2A. One thing leads to another, and they end up in the same destination. Over the next few days, they catch up and spend an amazing time together. It's like the stars are trying to tell them that they belong together. However, their romance was to be over before it even started as tragedy tears them apart. Years pass and the two go their separate ways and have their lives, and then their paths cross in the supermarket of all places. Is this a second chance at romance tale? The thing is though that Jessie has a boyfriend already . The rest of the novel has moments in time passing and the pair always seem to cross paths until eventually Jessie decides to give it a go - but she is about to discover that the guy she fell in love with in Whistler those many years ago isn't the Kendall of today. The tragedy changed him and the parts she loved, can Jessie remind Kendall of the one she fell for or is Seat 2A a story of destiny and fate playing jokes ? I loved this book as I have a thing for second chance romances and stories where past loved ones cross paths and re-ignite their romance as my own relationship took a similar route.

Don’t really know what to say about this book. It wasn’t anything like I imagined. In some ways, I really liked the author’s plot ideas. But the road she took was just plagued with wrong turns. A ton of repetitive language annoyed the heck out of me. It was extremely hard to follow with a huge mix of cheesiness that I didn’t really find entertaining. The story covered a seven-year time line which would have been okay - but very slow paced and frequent bouts of OTT overkill. The first meeting between Jessie and Kendal was fun and I liked the idea of them meeting in an airport by accident and ending up on a plane sitting next to each other. From there, this one bombed for me. And I have never read about so many vomiting incidents or other bodily functions. Any sexual encounter between these two took a long time to get to and when we arrived, it was anything but orgasmic! Overall, it was a story that got old real fast. Needed an editor’s eye, as well.

This was one of those books that started out great and then sort of lost it's lustre.

The premise was a great one.
When this couple first meet...perfect.
When their paths keep crossing...perfect.
After that...meh.
Ending...perfect.

This is a story of what happens when your past collides with your present.

When I started reading this book I'll be honest it took me a while to actually get into it as I found it to be quite slow paced which was a theme that continued throughout, I know you need to be aware of the how's and why's of how things were the they were but really a lot could've been cut however I persevered with the book as it promised to be a really good storyline.

According to the blurb I read I was expecting there to have been a child conceived between the lead female Jessie and lead male Kendal but I was disappointed to find out that wasn't the case. The storyline of what promised to be a great book was there but the way in which it was delivered was a touch disappointing. I read something that was completely different than what I expected it to be, it could have been a bit more faster paced a little less repetitive and apart from a certain changing room scene a whole lot more sexier.

I'm afraid it's only 2.5 stars out of 5 from me.

DNF @ 43%!

I gave this story 2 stars because the first 20% was really good and promising. After the time jump the repetition and hinky timeline got to me a little. I kept going though. I was going to finish this book. This author seems very very sweet, and I've read some good reviews for her other book. Unfortunately I could not get past some of the happenings. They were just a little too OTT for me. When it got gross, I was out.

This will probably work for someone who is looking for a VERY silly romantic comedy, but for me that's not what I was expecting...

Sad to say, DNF.

I picked this book out randomly and it wasn't on my reading list. I'm glad I read it because it was an enjoyable read.
I liked how they met and then all these years later they are reunited.
There was quite a few funny scenes which made me laugh.
I thought the story flowed lovely although I did find it slow nearer the middle.
I would of liked a longer epilogue but at the end of the book it has a small chapter of Kendal starting his story? So does that mean another book! I hope so! 💛

I will for sure read more books by this author.

Kendal literally runs into Jessie at the airport, upending her purse and just walks away as he's late for his flight. She's grumbly (yes, that's a word.. now) about the whole situation but somehow still notices how cute Kendal is. They end up sitting next to each other on the flight and get stuck on a layover toward their final destination, allowing them time to get to know each other as clearly a mutual attraction has sparked. Seeing each other periodically over their short stint in Whistler, they make a mark on each other that the other one isn't quite aware of. When Kendal leaves unexpectedly, they lose touch. Flash forward 7 years later and a chance encounter at a grocery store. What a small world it is, especially when your new boyfriend is friends with Kendal's sister and now you're stuck in some strange Bermuda (love) triangle.

I don't read a whole lot of romance, so when I do I take it in stride and go for entertainment value and this surely entertained me from beginning to end. Each chapter goes back and forth between Jessie and Kendal's point of view with some overlapping. Which I don't mind - I like seeing some scenarios play out through different sets of eyes. It's not overly done either, which is nice. There are definitely some things that didn't quite flow - but then I think to men and women and relationships and well, isn't everyone hypocritical to some degree as long as it fits their perception to what they need at the time? Does everything flow correctly or make a whole lot of sense when you're in the moment? Your making emotional decisions, not practical ones. I'm not a one-night stand guy to hookers and boozing. I want space to why didn't you call me?! Definitely shows the side of women where we expect men to remember everything that we consider important to men who are seemingly oblivious to what women want. I think that about sums us up to some degree or another.

You know pretty much where the story is going to go and how it's going to end and yet I didn't want to put it down. Highly entertaining. Can we say draaaammmaaa! Lessons I took from this book: 1. Never eat french fries for breakfast or old pizza from a gas station and 2. Always talk to the cute guy in the seat next to you. Years ago, I met a guy at the airport bar. Turns out, he ended up in the seat next to me on my flight. He was cute, we hit it off and that was that. But I don't live a romance novel type of life. Haha!

Lovely debut in contemporary fiction from Dela. I can only see her writing getting better and better from here and will continue to read her future work. Thanks so much for this advanced copy in return for my honest review. Ladies, if you want an entertaining read that has that sitcom/hallmark movie feel, this is the way to go. Pure entertainment, steamy games and some interesting adjectives and name play. I'm just gonna stop here and let your imagination roll with all the above. Rating at 3.5 stars but rounding up to 4 for Goodreads.

Title: Seat 2A
Author: Dela

4 unexpected stars

What a beautiful, unexpected and hilarious story by Dela! Being the first time that I read a novel by this author (it is the first time I hear about her, honestly), I was almost reluctant to start reading this book, but the blurb drew me in little by little. And boy a I ever happy that I started those first pages because it swallowed me in faster than I could have ever imagined! Jessie and Kendal's start starts off 7 years ago on a chance meeting when he walks into her, throwing her purse on the floor and then after apologizing, they spent an unexpected and amazing week in a Whistler before events pull them apart. 7 years later, the two meet at Kendal's sister's home as Jessie was visiting with her boyfriend Colby... things start off slow as they reconnect, slowly warming up until choices have to be made and secrets must be revealed. Throughout the good, the bad and the ugly, can Kendal and Jessie make it?

3 cuddle worthy dreams

I was so incredibly surprised. I didn't know what to expect and I highly doubt that gut wrenching laughter was it. And laugh I did. So much so that I was getting the 'Are you crazy?' stares. It was difficult to explain why I laughed because there was a history behind the laughter and the scenes that made me laugh, and then my heart sped so fast that I didn't know what to make of this hot and cold relationship, between these two. It was so believable that I applaud Dela for tackling all those topics I've never seen in books before (who can say that food poisoning and the 'eewwww' effects were ever described in a gawfawed way?!?) and I truly admire her for doing so. I loved every moment of this book and can't wait for more, knowing that my patience will be tested in this moment until I hear about a new release (or maybe even previously published books) by Dela.

3.5 Stars upgraded to 4.

So, I really enjoyed the premise of this book and what it could be. The first 1/3 of the book I was hooked and I didn't want to put it down. After the time jump it got a little too wordy for me, with just a hint too much description and filler that wasn't truly needed. BUT, with that being said, I loved the characters and the banter between them. I loved the storyline and the plot, and I loved the references to their past on the plane.

Kendal--although a typical stupid boy-- was completely relatable and funny, and I loved his outlook on life and whims. I thought he really grew throughout the story.

Jessie was a bit whiny for my tastes. Even after some of the stuff she went through, I think she needed to put on her big girl panties and grow up, but that's just my opinion.

Overall though I did enjoy the book and would recommend.

Dela is a new to me Author with Seat 2A being my first read. I was intrigued when i read the blurb for this book looking like when your past catches up to your present with a lost love.
I loved the start of this book i thought the chemistry between the Jessie and Kendal was amazing. The chance meeting at the airport with flirty banter had me hooked.
But when they went their separate ways only to meet up 7 years later. I found myself getting slightly brassed off with the push pull part of the relationship i understand that Jessie was in a relationship and was very glad that although the feelings were there for Kendal again that there was NO cheating.
When they were together it was great but then there would be no communication and thats what i found frustrating. Don't get me wrong it wasn't the writing, which was great it was that i just wanted to bang their bloody heads together!!

Overall this was a good read i really did like the characters and for most part the story just the push pull was a bit to much of it for me. When they were together it was great. Would i read another book from this author most definitely.

WTF!!! I don't usually get to write a review right after I finish reading but I actually do for this one....I must say I am a bit confused about what I just read, so let me just give you the stages in which I have journeyed the last few days.

1) Boredom - almost DFNed this bad boy, the way the story jumped back in the timeline when the voice changed was frustrating. That got better as the book progressed because the jump backs were not that far.
2) Intrigue and Joy - Kendal and Jessie's antics with each other really saved this book.
3) Frustration - Kendal and Jessie's antics started to work my nerves.
4) Confused - I thought this was a standalone book????
5) Rushed - This is a standalone book.....so much happened in that last 10%.
6) Unsatisfied - What no epilogue!!!!

Overall, I did actually enjoy this book with all of the angst, push n pull, and twists so I really can't give it a bad rating.

First off can I just say how much I love the cover of this book? The hot pink words with the black and white photo of the hot guy on the airplane definitely had me intrigued. Seat 2A is an easy romantic quick read that I couldn't put down that would be the perfect beach read. The characters are charming, the writing is witty, and there's just enough steamy scenes that leave you wanting more. I finished it honestly without complaints. I love the banter between the characters, the fun nicknames, the growth and maturity of the leading characters over the coarse of the book, and who could forget the embarrassing and hilarious "incident" after eating some sketchy food. I honestly chuckled to myself, blushed, smiled, and felt all the emotions on the rollercoaster that is Kendal and Jessie. After reading this book I think I need to travel to Whistler and go snowboarding because Dela does such a good job of describing that place that I must visit it someday. I highly recommend reading it as the plot has just enough of a twist that it offers something different that I've never read before. READ it you'll be glad you did..

Writing is choppy and I decided to read it when it came up as books similar to Happily Letter After(which I read and reviewed not too long ago). I couldn't bring myself to like any of the characters and I disliked the male protagonist so much.

I thought this book was cute. I tend to lean towards spicier, steamier books nowadays but this one was a nice reprieve from that. The main character was a little annoying, but it was nice and different to read a story about something other than a secret baby, a ménage, or sports. 3.5 stars.

This book had me going crazy. I loved how they met, I love the way the book flowed, and even when I wanted to shake Jessie for not doing what I wanted her to and making poor choices I was hoping things would work out for her and that she'd find happiness (especially with Kendal). It's a story of missed connections and shows that people, no matter how brief they were in your life, can make a huge impact. There were a lot of really funny moments and odd interactions that had me literally laughing out loud. I'm looking forward to reading more from Dela in the future.

After a hard break up with Jessie Evans and her boyfriend, she is boarding a plane to her friends wedding but what she doesn’t know that she may be sitting next to the person who would change her life. Seat 2A.
After Jessie meets Kendal by accident, sparks fly between the two strangers only to leave them wanting more but leaving it alone to die off. Two years later, Jessie has a boyfriend named Colby, and well Kendal, is still striving for love. When the two come into contact over an awkward dinner, everything goes downhill from here

I found this book compelling and very exciting as I jumped into Jessie Evan’s life and joined her for the ride of a lifetime. This book has such a good turn of events with lots of captivating characters that really made the connection with the reader. When everything
Jumping back and forth between the perspective of Jessie Evans and the man seated in seat 2A, Kendal Vargas, it made the book intriguing as each had a different perspective of the other and truly showed how one mistake can change someone's life forever.

“I’m afraid of a lot of things, but taking chances isn’t one of them.”

This book made me find love within someone I didn’t even know and screamed in horror when I wanted Jessie and Kendal to just make out already! This book made me fall in love with one genre I use to hate, romance. This contemporary novel made me want more from this couple and truly gave me a sense of fulfillment when I finished it.

“The way I see it nobody is entitled to take a chance when they haven’t taken the risk of a whim.”
I would recommend this book to any lover or romance and contemporary. Way to go Dela!

Wow I'm amazed at home easy to get lost in this novel is. I love Jessie and Kendall's story, even if you get your heart broken along the way. This is so worth it. They have the unconditional love that grows over a lifetime. For a moment I wondered if happily ever after was not going to be in the cards for these two. It's like life just keeps coming in between their relationship and saying do not pass go and do not collect your other half! It's definitely one of the busiest rollercoaster of emotional drama stories. I can't decide who needed to be pushed more, Jessie or Kendall... Jessie for not finding her dream guy or Kendall for not getting her real name.

Just finished reading Seat 2A by the incredible @dela_author. First, let me clarify by stating I do not read romance novels (or bodice-rippers, as my mother used to call them). This novel was technically called a "contemporary romance", which is way out of my normal comfort zone, but I enjoyed reading it. Dela had a unique writing style, by switching the story's POV from Jessie's to Kendal's. This made this type of book more interesting to me.
To keep me involved in this type of literature, Dela is definitely an author I would expect great things from.in the future. Now I'm looking forward to her other book, the 52nd.

Star Rating - ***

Having never read a Dela book before I was unsure what to expect from the author. Telling the story of 2 seat mates on a plane ride to Vancouver and their accidental reunion 7 years later. Feisty 2B is heartbroken and heading to her best friends wedding when a stranger in the airport knocks her over, still reeling from her boyfriends betrayal being knocked over is the last straw. Especially when she finds out her seat mate 2A on the plane is the man who knocked her over. Cocky 2B was struck by the beauty of the girl he knocked over in the airport and his luck is in when she's his seat mate on the plane out to Minnesota. However not having made the best first impression he spies his chance when there connecting flight to Vancouver is delayed.

Spoiler alert This book was not quite what I expected, with the blurb of a little girl that looks exactly like the hero and a 7year time gap between the hero and heroines last meeting I was expecting a ONS in the airport of maybe an induction into the mile high club during the flight, alas I was to be disappointed the pairs first sexual encounter happened towards the mid to end of the book. For me the book seemed to drag, told in Joint POV there were parts of the book that didn't necessarily need to be told from each of the leads POV maybe a paragraph and not the whole chapter. I loved the blurb it gave me the impression of a secret pregnancy and the pair reuniting after an accidental meeting.

The attraction between the 2 lead characters was of the charts and I loved the start of their connection in Vancouver with the accidental meetings. However for all the times fate put the pair together it seemed just as determined to keep the 2 apart untill coincidence in the form of sisters, new boyfriends nieces and best friends put them back in touch. Overall 3 stars for me I just couldn't make the initial connection with the book.

This was an unexpected great find, although the blurb was slightly misleading. I went into this expecting there to be a hook up that led a unplanned pregnancy with Kendal finding out later. Not what happens at all. However I did enjoy the story. But I was unsure if I wanted to continue especially since some of the reviews had me on the fence, but I really enjoyed this book. In. The. Worst. Way. (Have to read it to get the reference)😉

These two (Kendal and Jessie) had me on the edge of my seat, but the build up was worth it. So for me it was full of angst and yet some truly truly laugh out loud moments. Like the road trip moment... I laughed for a good 10 minutes over that.

Overall this was a great book, IMO a true romance novel. It was not about the sex it was about the connection. And I felt like I saw this couple grow and truly build something. It was sweet, although there were moments when I didn't understand why they were upset with each other. Lack of maturity, poor communication, and fear of rejection were major themes. Yet I truly enjoyed it. I devoured it in a day.

One seat change, one cookie shared, leads to promises!

I would like to think that Fate brought Kendal and Jessie together, but changed her mind shortly afterwards. Why would Fate do that!? I'll tell you why! Kendal was not ready to commit to being a boyfriend, and certainly not ready to be a husband! Jessie wanted what her friend Regina had! A loving relationship, stability, and a ring on her finger! Soo.. I think Fate decided that the couple needed some time and space apart.

Life carries on, but Kendal can't forget about the girl he met on the plane. The one he called "Doe". Jessie can't forget about Kendal, the carriage ride in Whistler, or promises made on a snowy night. I crossed my fingers, and hoped that they would meet again! After all, it was one seat change, and one shared cookie that led to the start of their relationship.

I really enjoyed this second chance romance! I loved the little surprises the author shared throughout the story. The characters were all very likable! This was a sweet romance with some heat.

A chance encounter brings us Seat 2A. A seat that was supposed to be empty is filled with possibilities when Jessie and Kendal are thrown together.

Kendal is mysterious. He has secrets. Jessie does too. The two of them continue on, perfectly happy with how they met and what they are keeping from each other. Unforeseen circumstances tear them apart, and the story picks back up, years later.

Seat 2A is exciting, fun, and suspenseful. The will they, won't they, is addictive and I didn't want to stop reading for anything! While the supporting cast was slightly overbearing at times, they meant well. Jessie and Kendal were a great balance for each other. The book is sexy and a fabulous second chance romance.

So this book was a disappointment. I had such high hopes but it fell flat for me. They had a great meeting at first but things went weird after that. It was super cute way to meet, I'll admit but I think to much time had passed and you just didn't feel the attraction anymore.
Kendal has serious commitment issues and I thought Jessie would change that. It took a long time before that happened. She had another boyfriend who I knew wasn't going to work out. He handles the breakup very childish and continues in that with dealing with Kendal. Once they get together, some of the ways they talk to each other seemed a bit childlike and they are supposed to be in their 30s. I really struggled to finish this but I pushed thru and did it. I was happy they had a happy ending.

This book! I could have seen this story line going a few different ways but I never thought going into this book that the blurb would catch my eye then disappoint me but it did. The blurb had me hooked going into this book but the book will make you laugh and at the same time you will get frustrated with the characters at times and be like dude get over your commitment issues already and commit to the girl! With that said this was a good read not great, I think that the author has some room to grow. There are things that I would have cut out so the book didn't run on but all in all it was an ok/ good read.
