April Hunt

Also writes under April Asher.

April Asher, aka April Hunt, was hooked on romantic stories from the time she first snuck a bodice-ripper romance out from her mom's bedside table. She now lives out her own happily-ever-after with her college-sweetheart husband, their two children, and a cat who thinks she's more dog—and human—than feline. By day, April dons dark blue nursing scrubs and drinks way too much caffeine. By night, she still consumes too much caffeine, but she does it with a laptop in hand, and from her favorite side of the couch.

From the far left cushion, April Asher pens laugh-out-loud romantic comedies with a paranormal twist, but when she’s not putting her characters into embarrassing situations with supernatural entities, she also writes high-octane romantic suspense as April Hunt, her thrill-seeking alter ego.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Elle is sick and tired of being a yes woman. When she catches her fiancé cheating on her, she kicks him to the curb. Escaping both him and her overbearing Senator father, she travels with a friend to help build clinics in Thailand.
Trey is in Thailand waiting to get his assignment from his secret former military members Alpha group, when a hot blonde comes up to him at the bar. After one night he knows she's the one he's been waiting for. However, Elle doesn't want to be controlled by anyone ever again and pulls a ditch and run on him.
Trey can't believe it when protecting Elle turns out to be his assignment but now he has even more reasons to never let her out of his sight.
With Elle in danger and a villain lurking in the shadows, Trey has his work cut out for him protecting her and convincing her that sometimes one night stands can last for a lifetime.

"The ship Uncomplicated has already sailed, sweetheart. It is so damn far out to sea, Poseidon himself can't fucking track it. Get complicated with me, Elle. What do we have to lose?"

Second in the Alpha Security series, Holding Fire turns the focus on former Delta Force Trey. If you read my review for the first in the series Heated Pursuit, you'll know the hero was my favorite part of that story. Unfortunately, Trey didn't have the same impact on me as Rafe did. Trey had a bit of insta-lust/love for Elle right away and his character was centralized on getting her to accept they meant to be more than a one night stand. We know at age thirty-four he is done with meaningless sex and wants to start a family and he has a good relationship with his mom. We get scenes of him teasing and getting teased by his Alpha Security buddies and two or three scenes with his mother but I missed a fuller character. I think my disappointment with Trey was because the story itself didn't have a rounded out feel.

The story starts off great with push and pull between Elle and Trey then the added danger of who is trying to kidnap/kill her. However, in the pursuit to keep the reader guessing as to who and why Elle is being targeted, the villain remains deep in the shadows and they kind of become a non-entity in their own suspense story. There is a decided lack of action, until the very end, and after the third or so time Elle is almost captured, I'd be side-eyeing and asking to see Trey's credentials. Most of the story had a very rinse and repeat with how Elle was in danger and her resistance to Trey.

Elle started off as a character I really wanted to know, with her I've been screwed over by my father and fiancé but I'm grabbing life by the horns now attitude. Like with Trey though, the story didn't have enough substance to support her and she ended up kind of becoming annoying with every fifth line out of her mouth along the lines of "I'm in charge of my own life." Which is a great attitude to have, but in the beginning I just wanted her to maybe listen to the professionals trying to keep you alive and later it was more about her incessantly and blindly rejecting Trey, even though she inherently acknowledged she had feelings for him. It was a conflict that started 5% into the story and continued until 95%, way too dragged out.

With the story being a bit flimsy, little imperfections jumped out at me more. Trey's nickname of "sweetness" for Elle seemed just a bit overused and the British team member's continuous use of "bloody" and "love" seemed overdone as if the author really wanted to keep reminding us she was British and this was the only way she knew how. Even though it was only done twice, I'm super done with the whole women in "tight clothing" thrusting their boobs on the poor hero's chest and aggressively flirting with him, regardless if the heroine is right beside him, as was the case once. At least have these women be more suave and do it behind the heroine's back every once and a while. I kid, but I hope you all know what I mean.

The action storyline was lukewarm, it was tiring how long and often the conflict was only the heroine's, at first empowering but then exhausting, "I can't because I must be independent!", and this story wrapped up with just about the most perfect bow you could tie. Seriously, you will be tempted to roll your eyes and I think the author missed an opportunity to write a moving and emotional scene dealing with an issue not commonly found in romance, but fairy tale fans will probably like it as much as I didn't. The charm and heart I talked about in the first did peek out a couple times but the purpose of the story just wasn't there. There are plenty of Alpha guys and gal waiting in the wings and I'll still hang around to give this author another try because her style does lend to romantic suspense fun and hotness. This one in the series didn't match my tastes but the promise of another hero like Rafe will carry me over to the next.

Timing is everything and losing his heart to a woman he barely knew after an amazing night of wild sex, couldn’t have come at a worse time for operative Trey Hanson. Instead of the fireworks being between the sheets, the night ended in gunfire and the beautiful blonde was gone, destination unknown. Now Trey must find her, for more reasons than to save his heart, she has just become his latest assignment.

Elle Monroe will never forget that explosive night in the arms of Trey and she certainly never thought she would see him again, until he shows up once more, to save her life and she assumes she is just a job for him. Trey now has to prove to her that they belong together and the job had nothing to do with their one night stand.

Elle has run from a life of a privileged prison at the beck and call of her Senator father and the monster he has arranged for her to marry. Her work as a nurse in undeveloped countries has brought her the self-respect she never found at home. Now her life is in danger and it is linked to her father, his position, ego and underhanded dealings. Can Trey and the Alpha Security team keep her safe? Who is after Elle and why or is she just a way to get to someone else?

April Hunt’s HOLDING FIRE is part action and adventure, part romance and part comedic relief as the cast of characters flash in and out of each scene and drew me into their group, chuckling, rolling my eyes and feeling the true closeness their banter means. Trey is soooo not able to understand Elle and her feelings as they play tug-of-war with their hearts. Elle has found her inner feisty self and is mastering it quite well, as she brings one tough, alpha badass to his knees with just one word!

A fun read filled with tension from the heart, tension from the chase! A great addition to another contemporary romance series.

I don't really have a lot to say about this book other then it fell short for me. At times it almost seemed like the author forgot that this was supposed to be a book that kept readers in suspense and the story got a little jumbled. I was intrigued with the story of Trey and Elle but there were other things going on that at first grabbed my attention, and then seemed lost in the story.

After reading the first book in this series I expected more action than was delivered, so maybe that was one of my bigger issues. Overall, this one didn't work for me but I'm not going to give up on this author and I'm actually still looking forward tot he next story.

*pets the sexy alpha operative* just look at all those muscles and tattoos. woo! April Hunt has me hook!

The Set Up:
A wild rebellious streak leads to a hot and heavy one night stand with a stranger in Thailand. And a heroine who was all wham bam, this ma'am is out the damn door. Aaaaand then it turns out her wild hook up...totally the guy who's been hired to keep her safe 24/7 from an unknown threat. Lord.

The Characters:
I had a fantastic time with Trey and Elle. He rocked the sexy and could be a little growly but had some super sweet tendencies. She was determined to find her independence and some backbone after dealing with some pretty awful men in her life. They were hot together, too. Whew boy! They steamed up the room! They kind of reversed roles--she was totally ready to pull a runner and the big bad operative is ready to settle down and be a one woman guy--which was fun.

The Suspense:
A little round the world chase, an unknown threat, danger popping up when they least expected it. It kept me on edge and wondering what the full truth was and getting kinda frustrated right along with them when things would go south. It was nicely done.

The Eh:
I did have two little ehs. But they weren't BIG ehs. These two fucked like bunnies! But, man, most of the good stuff would happen off page. Not every time. But they'd get all heat up then BOOM next day. *flails* lol And then towards the end she does something stupid relationship-wise and he's the one to apologize. I really dislike when that happens.

Overall?
Yes, please! I'd like another! I'm really loving this Alpha Security team. They're a little rough around the edges and have some pretty funny quirks. I'm so ready to see the next two get their worlds all shook up.

And just a funny note. They have a war room. Which the ladies jokingly start nicknaming and end with the Room of Testosterone. And omg I was like The Testosteroom!!!! It needs to be called the Testosteroom! Alas, it was not. lol

Page one I fell in love with Trey, that man holds nothing back, "he traced the ridge of her collarbone. “Maybe not, but last night was a hell of a lot more than nice. It was fan-effing-tastic.” I loved that Trey tried to make his woman feel less guilty for kicking him in the face, he speech could use some work though, “why? Because I’m such a delicate flower?” Trey slid his hands beneath her thighs and dragged her close. “No harm done other than to my pride. We’re good. No apologies. But I’m pretty damn thankful we weren’t working on crotch shots because then any hopes of future Trey juniors would’ve disappeared instantly.” I loved this book, and Trey he was all bossy and alpha, the more books that come out for this series the eager I am for thr characters to get their own story.

One night stands are meant to be uncomplicated, but when Elle Monroe chose the fierce looking badass across the bar in Thailand for one night of fun at the urging of her best friend, she had no idea what she was in for!

Trey Hansen and his team of Alpha Security are in Thailand awaiting the full details of the protection job they have been assigned, so they decide to let off a little steam at the local watering hole while they wait. At 34 years old, Trey has been starting to feel the need to settle down rather than engaging in a continuous string of meaningless hookups especially since his sister got engaged to one of his best friends. When the petite blond beauty approaches him in the bar with a promise of a fun night in her eyes, he decides to take her up on it even as he feels like she could be something more. He has no idea how that decision will complicate his life in the near future!

Elle has lived her life under the controlling and domineering thumb of her father, a US Senator who is more interested in what everyone can do for him, including his only child, than in how he can serve the people he was elected by. For years she played the part of the Stepford daughter, but when she catches her hand selected fiance with his pants down in the company of his secretary and she is told to just deal with it, she finally snaps. She calls off the engagement, enrolls in nursing school and takes a job halfway across the world defying her father and all the expectations placed on her. The intensity of the man she chooses for a night of fun both thrills and scares her, but she is determined to live her life with some independence giving no man that much control over her ever again. When the world goes crazy around her and she is held at gunpoint by a would-be kidnapper, she is stunned to see Trey coming to her rescue- but that shock is quickly replaced by anger and annoyance as he starts barking orders without any explanations as he hustles her into a car and out of the area with one of his friends. Betrayal rapidly follows when she realizes she is a job to him and he kept that fact from her when they hooked up... despite the fact Trey had no idea she was the object of their protection mission at the time.

And let the struggle begin! Trey has his work cut out for him convincing her that he is not like every other man she has known including her father and her ex-fiancee (who doesn't want to take the hint about the "ex" part by the way). Elle wants to trust him but his alpha tendencies automatically grate on her nerves out of pure rebellious instinct and she has to work to lock down that reaction. Penny and Charlie, the only two females at the Alpha Security headquarters, quickly take her under their wing and it is not long before they are encouraging her to give Trey and the team a run for their money and sanity!

Trey and Elle have a chemistry that is palpable, and despite the constant push and pull Elle initiates they were a lot of fun to read about. Trey is a genuinely good guy at heart, and when it comes to alpha dominant and protective instincts, he has them in spades. The danger to Elle is real and the whole team has to focus on discovering the source, but Trey finds a way to give Elle some lighthearted and fun moments even as he keeps chiseling away at the walls around her heart. She has a reason for putting those concrete barriers in place though and she is certain that Trey will run the other way as soon as he finds out her secret.

Holding Fire was one of those books that flew by as I flipped the pages and I read it in the space of just a few hours. I love the whole Alpha Security team and I am absolutely dying to read Charlie's story! She is snarky and able to hold her own in the boys' world she operates in, but for all her bravado I am betting she goes down hard when she finally gives into the chemistry between her and one of the other team members. In the meantime, if you are looking for some hot, sexy fun amidst action packed moments, then grab yourself a copy of Holding Fire and buckle in for the ride!

This book. From the very first paragraph to the last word I was completely and utterly hooked. This book. It had me enraptured. Elle was such a strong character. She was who I wanted to be. She was a fighter and she exuded strength. But she was also able to be hurt. Trey was in a word delicious. He was alpha personified and he knew what he wanted and went after it. He could make Elle melt but only when she would let him. Did I mention she was strong? And when he made her melt he made me and my kindle melt at the same time! I'm talking serious hotness.

Amongst all of this serious hotness and strong characters there is also a great suspenseful plot with a twist. Their are more characters that a reader will love getting to know and others they will want to take a spork and cut their hearts out with it. The writing is absolutely phenomenal. I'm talking great descriptive writing and scene setting, as well as her amazingly complex characters. This book may be the second in the series but it stand completely on its own. I will now be going back for book 1 and anxiously awaiting for book 2. I highly recommend it!

This Romantic Suspense/Military Romance works because of the audience that will be reading the book.
The male lead his Alpha from head to toe Me Tarzan You Jane lets have sex. I will protect you if you listen to me and no one else.
The no strings attacked sex followed by love it a little over used expect April Hunt use the female lead as the one who wants no strings.
Trey Hanson is Alpha with the Capital A. Instead of coming from a broken home he is your traditional good old boy who loves his mom and is special ops group are his family.
Elle Monroe comes from a messed up father who controls his family like he controls congress. She doesn't want to be controlled.
The author made her feisty without being a brat. The author stays true to the characters from being to end of the book.

Reader will feel satisfied with the end of the book.

I enjoyed the Authors writing style it was fast pace, descriptive without being boring. April Hunt gives her readers what they want with a small twist that will keep her readers hooked.
The secondary characters were more fun to read about which will have me picking up her next book in the series to see if she can keep Charlie true to her characters.
This series will work as a beach read giving readers hot sex, adventures, Alpha males and feisty women.

Than you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance Copy.

Received for a honest review.

Elle and Trey have my kindle sizzling. Especially Trey what a guy. Upfront honest gorgeous Trey who says it like it is. He is tired of one night stands and wants to settle down. His job is dangerous yes but he wants someone to come home to and curl up with at night. He feels he found it in Thailand until....

Elle: spunky, sassy, smart and nice. She only wants one night stands due to her past experiences with men and a life altering moment 2 yrs ago. She meets Trey and there is zing. I mean serious zing but she fights it. Fights it throughout the whole book. Even sets up rules for them. Rules Trey is trying to circumvent. What is the problem? Well she is who Trey and his buddies are supposed to protect. From who? that is so screwy and sad it isn’t even funny. At first you meet her dad and ex and know they are douches but in the end you want to yell, growl and punch them like Trey does.

As the team uncovers the identity of the mercenary and what is going on so Elle can get her life back. But her life is entwined with Treys. We see this throughout the book as Trey protects her. There are some sweet times like the Sled-tacular, the town they went to for her birthday, some protective times-the gala, the cabin (which gives sizzling times as well) and heroic moments-ice skating that just have you melt for this couple and hope Trey can get through to her. What keeps her from letting her heart go is so heartbreaking but Trey and how he feels about it will have you swoon.

this is a book about family, love and acceptance. About loyalty and leeting go. Trey and Elle will capture you from the beginning with their sizzling first encounter and keep it throughout with their chemistry, story and love.

This is an interesting book in that it reads a lot like some books by Lexi Blake, or Maya Banks... what with the alpha men who used to be military who are now into security thing. It's a trope that's been done to death and back, and I enjoy it still. Where this was a little bit different was that the alpha character, Trey, wasn't quite as alpha, dominant, or an asshatt. But that's really about it as far as story and plot and characters go.

One other thing that was different is that there is almost no on page sex. They have a lot of steamy foreplay that leads to sex, but the majority of it, really until the end of the book, all happens off page. For the first few scenes it took me off guard. There was all this build up for something super sexy, only to shift completely and I'd end up in a whole new scene. It tended to take me out of the moment. I'm not one who needs to have all kinds of sex in her romance, but when there is that much build up, I expected more.

But, I did like this a lot. It was a predictable plot line and I knew what was going to happen fairly early on. It was just easy to read, you know? But it was a lot of fun, nonetheless.

Security operative Trey Hanson has had his share of one night stands and strings free relationships, and while he enjoyed them at the time, the novelty of them has now worn off. He's ready for something a little more permanent, he's already found the perfect house, now he just has to find the right girl. And the minute Elle Monroe wanders into his life he's certain she is the one, problem is she doesn't do forever... now he is left with the complicated task of trying change her mind, and show her that he's worth the risk, all while trying to keep her safe!

Elle Monroe is ready to take her life into her own hands, and stop letting the men in her life call all the shots, it's time for a unsupervised little strings free fun. Picking up a stranger in the bar for a little night of fun sounds like the perfect way to kick off her newfound freedom, that is until she learns that the man she just shared an incredible night with has been hired to keep her safe... now her little plan of one night of fun has just turned into uncomfortable reunion neither of them saw coming!

This story was AMAZING!!! The moment I cracked the cover on it, I was completely consumed by every little detail, it was thrilling literary ride! This was my first read from Ms. Hunt and I have to say she totally blew me away with this one, it was suspenseful, sexy, and so much fun to read, I can't wait to meet more of her Alpha's!! I highly recommend you give this one a try, it is sure to keep you captivated from start to finish, and leave you with a serious crush on a certain sexy operative!!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.

New to me author, Ms. Hunt slings me into a world of political intrigue and betrayal. Elle is the proverbial dutiful daughter to her powerful father, a Senator. Intimidated by him, she follows his rules as if they are law, even down to the husband he picked for her. When a life changing event shows Elle just how little she means to both her father and finance, she decided she's had enough. Instead of being the perfect airhead socialite, she puts her nursing degree to good use and volunteers in 3rd world countries. She will make a difference. Unfortunately for her, she may leave her father and ex-fiance behind but they don't agree.

This story kicks off hard and fast with Elle doing the morning after dash after a spectacular night of sex with a stranger. Unlucky for Elle and the stranger, Trey, they were supposed to meet up. Not for the horizontal mambo but for Trey to protect her from threats. When it comes out Trey is supposed to be part of Elle's protection detail, the story hits a hotter sexual tension. Elle's temper is a slow fuse but when she finally hits her limit, she explodes. Exploding Elle is a fun Elle as long as her ire is aimed elsewhere.

The characters in this story are fun. I liked both Trey and Elle. I did find their hang ups to be a little overplayed. As in, I didn't understand why they wanted certain personal information kept quiet. I didn't find it shameful or embarrassing, but then again, I'm a honey badger, not some young single female with self image issues.

The conflicts in this story are well done and tie in nicely together. Ms. Hunt does a good job of starting with one main thread only to split off into to different subplots and then tie it all back together in the end. I liked it. After reading this book, I am definitely on the look out for more Ms. Hunt books. She reminds me of Maya Bank's KGI series. This romantic suspense is recommended to all romance readers.

This review was copied from my romance novel review blog: romanticallyinclinedreviews.blogspot.com

Two words: Alpha. Males.

Holding Fire by April Hunt is the second book in her Alpha Security romance series. Her first book Heated Pursuit came out in 2016 and earned over 4 stars on Goodreads. I, of course, haven’t read it because I seem to have a penchant for choosing the second book in a series for these reviews. Whoops.

April Hunt’s Alpha Security series reminded me a lot of my beloved Black Knights Inc. series by Julie Ann Walker. Strong, handsome ex-military men who join forces to form security firms to protect those who can afford their lethal skills. Trey Hanson is alpha, through and through, but lately he’s been hearing a voice (mostly his mother’s) telling him it’s time to settle down. Enter Elle, a beautiful and charming young woman with whom sparks fly. After a wildly passionate night together Trey is hearing wedding bells but Elle is hearing warning bells. Trey is disappointed to discover that Elle wants nothing more than a one-night stand with him, but he’s shocked when it turns out that she’s also his newest assignment.

Hunt’s characters are dynamic, captivating, and complicated. The chemistry between Elle and Trey was completely believable and I wanted to reach through the pages and throttle Elle for being so guarded with her heart. I certainly wouldn’t have been had Trey been putting the moves on me. I really want to go back and read her first book because I loved the little glimpses of those characters, as well as though I believe will be featured in her third novel. The women are strong, independently, and powerful people who, when push comes to shove, aren’t afraid to let help come from a strong man (with a little encouragement).

I’m not going to tell you that this book will WOW you with its originality. It won’t. It’s your run of the mill Alpha male-security firm romance novel (I honestly believe there’s enough out there to give them their own subgenre). But I will say that the writing is really good, the humor is definitely there, and the men will make your toes curl.

Pick up the first book on your Kindle for only 2.99 and then pre-order the second. It comes out March 28th so you won’t have a torturously long wait before you can fall back into her world of danger, excitement, and hot protection units.

Trey and his fellow Alpha Security brothers are in Thailand to keep a Senator’s daughter safe. While waiting on the files too see just who this woman is he meets Elle. Before he can learn more about her, she and her friend Shay have to take off back to the states.

The guys realize who she really is and need to beat her back to the states before the goons get her.

Elle has no clue she is about to see Trey again and doesn’t like having to fight her feelings for him. She has her own problems and wants to be free of her father and her ex fiancé.

Trey has to move Elle around as the goons find her each time and he can’t help but fall for her but knows her walls are going to be thick. Can he keep her safe but also melt the walls?

This is the first book by this author I have read. I enjoy her writing style as she gets the reader interested in the first few pages. You want to see where the characters end up and can they work through the tough situations they face.

These books can be read as a stand alone but is part of a series.

What’s it About? Trey Hanson spends the night with Elle Monroe and thinks he may have found someone special but when chaos and a gun fight break out, Trey loses Elle in all the chaos. As an Alpha Security operative, Trey is good at finding people and protecting them and when he finds out that Elle is his next assignment he sees it as an opportunity to convince her to give them a chance at a real relationship.

Overall reaction to the story? April Hunt is yet another new to me author that wowed, dazzled, and had me vowing to come back for more. The pacing was perfect for a romantic suspense, and the characters were delightful.

Describe the hero in five words: Strong. Intelligent. Fun. Sexy. Stubborn.

Did you like him? Yes.

Why? Trey is all alpha but at the same time the guy has a soft, gooey center that was just waiting for the right woman. The author really made Trey seem like a realistic character. He wasn’t too “macho” but he wasn’t incompetent at his job either. He was fun but he could also be intense. I just loved how charming this guy could be and sure, he could be a bit bossy but I could forgive that in light of the situation he and Elle found themselves in. I should be so lucky to have a one nighter with a guy like him!

Describe the heroine in five words: Determined. Intelligent. Sassy. Stubborn. Caring.

Did you like her? Yes.

Why? I’m so picky about romantic suspense, I need the heroine to be something special, a cut above the rest and Hunt delivered. When Elle is introduced she’s basically trying to find herself and her inner strength after having dealt with some big time jerks in her life. I liked her, she wasn’t perfect but that’s what I liked about her. She was determined to do things her own way but she wasn’t so stupid as to think she could do a better job of protecting herself than a trained professional. She did have one or two moments where I wasn’t too pleased with her as a character but other than that she was a pretty neat heroine.

Let’s talk about the romance: Holding Fire had a nice role reversal between Trey and Elle, he was ready to settle down, she wanted to cut and run. It added a different tone to their dynamic and honestly I liked it! It was nice to see the guy, especially a guy like Trey who was a total badass show his softer side. The chemistry rocked my socks BUT I found it so frustrating that there would be such a sexy buildup between them and you think the sexy times are going to be explosive but then you blink and it’s the next day already. Ugh, that was just not good. I don’t like teases in real life and I definitely don’t like them in romances. It didn’t happen all the time but it did happen enough to kind of bug me. I could understand if this book was on the “Sweet” side of the romance specter because I would be prepared for that but to build up the tension with some really great scenes and then not follow through? Nope. Not something I enjoy.

Click It or Skip It? Even with the closed door scenes, Holding Fire delivers on action, romance, and likable character. I’m definitely a fan.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

Alpha Security operative Trey Hanson is ready to settle down. When he meets a gorgeous blonde in a bar, and the connection between them is off the charts, he thinks he's finally found the one. But after their night together ends in a hail of gunfire and she disappears in the chaos, Trey's reasons for tracking her down are personal . . . until he learns she's his next assignment.

Elle Monroe never expected to see Trey again. The night they shared was incredible, but the last thing she's looking for is a relationship. Now that it's clear she's being targeted, though, she has no choice but to trust this man she barely knows with her life. And Trey's not just determined to keep her safe . . . he's determined to win her heart.

Review:

I was hooked from page one!

This was an exciting romantic suspense story, where after spending one extremely passionate night together Trey finds out Elle is the one he has been hired to protect. From that point on the sexiness and the action keep ratcheting up. I won't give away any more of the plot, but I will say there are a lot of twists and turns, action and super sexy.

This is my first time reading this Author and I loved her style. She wrote engaging and interesting characters. Trey and Elle were both strong and caring which made them super appealing. The sexy scenes had the right amount of heat without being over the top. The story was fast-paced and there were no slow points. I loved the little surprise at the end of the book.

Holding Fire is the second book in the ( Alpha Security Series ) by April Hunt ,and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this awesome story. April Hunt has given us a story that will have you hooked right from the first chapter right until the very last word . The suspense and twists and turns in the plot of this story is quite emotional ,and will make you feel like your riding a roller coaster ride. And the secondary characters will make you want to get two know them all .This whole story is written so well and everything flows so smoothly . Elle is such a strong woman she is someone that every woman would like to be like , she's a fighter and she is so much strength .She don't think she can't be hurt because she can and was. Her father always wanted or had to be in control and she didn't want that .And then there's Trey who's mighty awesome ,and a total alpha who's hot and sexy. But when he wants sometime he goes for it until he gets it. But all he wants is to make Elle melt ,but it's only going to happen is if she wants it or lets it happen. I could tell you more but that would spoil the story for you . I highly recommend that you read this story ,because you won't be disappointed.

This is the second book in the series but could be read as a standalone, I really enjoyed the first book and couldn't wait to read this one, I wasn't disappointed. I did like Trey, but I, like Elle did find it a bit unbelievable how he knew she was the one after sharing a few hours together. He's ready to settle down but Elle needs a bit more convincing, Elle is sick of being controlled by her father and after discovering her fiancé cheating on her she goes off travelling and working as a nurse in undeveloped countries. She didn't expect to see Trey again, but her dads job has put her in danger, Trey and his team are protecting her. Trey was waiting for his next assignment when he met Elle, there time together ended in a hail of bullets so he thought he would not see her again. Finding out she's his next job both pleases him and annoys him, now he can keep her safe while convincing her they belong together.
There's a few twists and turns, your kept waiting to find out who did it. I did like Trey and Elle together, I just wish she had given him a chance a bit earlier. Overall an enjoyable read, I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Another great romantic suspense story from this author. I really enjoy her writing style. There is a great blend of action, suspense, romance, and humor. This group of security operatives is more like a brotherhood than a business. There's lots of funny banter, sexy times, and high level action. In this story Trey Hanson, one of the Alpha Security operatives, meets Elle Monroe one night and their chemistry is off the charts. The have one night of passion but rather than waking up to an awkward morning after, the night ends in a gun fight and Elle simply disappears. Trey can't get her out of his head and tracking her down is not an option because of that alone. Add in the fact that she is actually his next assignment and finding her become priority one. When he finds her not only will he need to keep her safe but also convince her to open her heart to more. With him!

Great read and one you don't want to miss. I highly recommend it.

This is the second book in the Alpha Security Series. They are stand alones, so you don’t have to read them in order. Both are great reads. If you do read the first book before reading this, you will understand why Trey has so much guilt.

Just like the previous book, this is action packed. Both with bad guys, and some seriously steamy scenes. There are also some secrets, betrayals, and surprises.

Trey and the guys of Alpha have been given the assignment of protecting a Senators daughter.

Unknowing about the tasks of the “job”, Trey has already “met” Elle.

Elle is a nurse in Thailand. Kind of like a Doctor’s Without Borders mission. She’s a tough chick. She can hold her own.

Some things aren’t what they seem. And I won’t go into details. I would hate to give anything away.

I love all these characters. I’m excited for the next book. I can’t wait for more Charlie! I absolutely love her. She is my favorite of this team. I can’t wait for Logan’s book either.

I received a paperback proof from the publisher.

From Net Galley - This is the 2nd Book in this series - and it can be read as a stand alone book. Both Trey and Elle and the gang from Alpha Security are great. And look forward to the next book in this series- featuring Charlie and Vince.

Trey is an alpha but has given up his player ways and has fallen for Elle the person they are paid to protect. When things go wrong he goes in the protection mode. But you got too- love a man that loves and listen to his Mom and you see a soft side there. And Elle - shes been used and lied too and has trust issues and a secret she thinks will keep her from Trey but she finds her place with Alpha and Trey . When the chips are down and the bad guy is taken of Elle and Trey finds that love is all you need.

I really loved Charlie in this book and cant wait to read her book in this series .I'm sure we are in for an exciting time with Charlie and Vince. Lisa

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

An action-packed, sexy, and full of sinfully sexy alpha males that will have your panties dropping and your heart racing. April Hunt is one of my GO TO authors when it comes to romantic suspense. Her books are written perfection while her heroes just make me SWOON every single time. And Holding Fire contained one alpha male that I absolutely fell in complete and utter LOVE with! Trey is a definite favorite of mine. And I adored Elle's fierce personality and soft spots. Trey and Elle had such incredible chemistry. Their passion was HIGH OCTANE HOTNESS!

Holding Fire is and was unforgettably entertaining! The action was non-stop and had my heart pounding at every turn. I give this book a FANTASTIC FIVE SHOOTING STARS! Its wildly sexy, and fierce. I loved it!

it's okay.
Too many cliches and a bit too much of the usual usual for me. Well written though and decent character building. I am sure that loads of my friends would like this one.
If its a genre you enjoy, definitely worth reading.

Trey and Elle had an explosive night together, and as Elle was trying, unsuccessfully, to quietly sneak away, Trey confesses he was hoping for more. See, Trey isn't the man he used to be. Yes, in the past he's been the one attempting to leave without getting caught, but he hasn't been that man for a long time. He now wants more, and thought with the connection he and Elle, a trauma nurse, had made in more ways than one, he'd found it. As he's trying to convince her to stay, their chemistry ignites again and...wait, that's not, well, it is, but yeah, the gunfire has captured both of their attentions. Shortly afterward, a man appears, obviously Trey's friend and backup, Elle slips away, with Trey calling for her the whole time. She gets away, possibly stumbling upon something she shouldn't have in the process, and someone she's dubbed Alley Man.

A few hours have gone by now, but Trey, an Alpha operative, and his team are no closer to finding Elle than before. However, things are even more complicated now as Trey's desire to find her is no longer only personal. It seems as if Elle is the mission they were sent there for, specifically to protect her per her father's, a Senator, request. If only they'd received the mission details when they arrived three days ago, Trey wouldn't have crossed the line he never has before. Well, there was something magnetic about his pull to Elle though, and it wasn't lust right away. It was more.

Elle is trying to get home and unfortunately, the journey is long and wrought with obstacles. While waiting in line at the airport, she notices a man that resembles Trey, which triggers hot memories of their night together, and, after finishing her objective, accidentally collides with another traveler, this one however, causes fear as it's Alley Man.

"The only thing Elle knew was that she was really—and completely—screwed." - Elle

Thankfully, she gets away with Trey's, yeah, it was him, help and is taken to a safe location where his team is holed up. Unfortunately, they aren't the only ones there as her father, Samuel, and ex-fiance, James, are lying in wait. Samuel wastes no time in putting Elle in her place. (Psst...daddy dearest he is not.) He's, of course, again making demands upon her and her time, regardless of her wishes. She concedes, on one condition, but Trey refuses to agree to the latter, and substitutes his own.

"Control over her and her life was all anyone seemed to want from her." - Elle

"But she’d never once felt like a job. She felt like a necessity." - Trey

Will Trey keep Elle safe? Who is after her and why? Is it someone closer than anyone knows?  What happens when Elle learns some hard truths? How long before Trey and Elle realize their chemistry can't be denied? What happens when the case is solved? Will they admit their feelings for one another? Or say good-bye, believing their time together could only be temporary? Is there a HEA in their future?

One-click now and follow along as two people meet by chance, then discover their paths would've crossed regardless. This is the second in the series and while I was able to read along without feeling lost, Rafe and Penny, the couple from Heated Pursuit, the first book, did make appearances and references were made to how they met.  While I enjoyed this book as a whole, there was one major issue for me (see below) and, if not for that, my rating would've been higher.

On a purely personal note, I know the Alpha headquarters is a secret and the bar the guys own is a front, but I really hated that Trey "had" to "play" nice with the locals as a "woman" was plastered against him, her breasts rubbing against his arm, her fingers dancing up and down his chest, and she kisses his cheek. This is after he's been sleeping with Elle. You can "play" nice without letting women touch you, especially when you're having sex with the heroine on a consistent basis. Oh yeah, and Elle saw this happen, and my words on how it was described were what Trey used with her. So, if the situation was reversed, he'd let another man do that with Elle? Umm, no, he wouldn't. So why have a grown man allow another woman to do that? He can do his job just fine without allowing women to touch him in this manner. Will he still let it happen when he and Elle are official? When they get married? If they have children? After they've been together 10 years? It was unnecessary and I lost respect for Trey. Yes, I know he only viewed it as "work," and wasn't interested, but still, up to that point, I was really liking him. Thanks for ruining him in my eyes. This would've been a solid four star, maybe even closer to five, read for me, but that happening knocked it down to three. A real man would not allow another woman to touch him when he believes he found his one, regardless of the reason, and especially not because it's "part of the job." It's disrespectful to his woman and calls into question his supposed feelings for her. Yeah, I know I've gone a little ranty on this, but it ticks me off. It was so completely uncalled for and added NOTHING to the story.

This was a really good book, I really enjoyed the writing style of this author. I loved how she was able to describe everything without being over described. I loved all the characters, they were all amazing. I loved the little twist and turns that were thrown in and when you were least expecting them. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Hold on a be prepared to fall in love with the oh so very hot alpha males who are part of April Hunt's Alpha Secruity Series. In Holding Fire we get to know Trey Hanson up close and personal. Trey is the picture and definition of everything you would expect an Alpha Security man to be. His latest assignment, which he finds out a little after the fact, is Elle Monroe. Elle is a trauma nurse who is also the daughter of a senator. The senator has hired Alpha Security to protect Elle. Elle and Trey meet in Thialand as she is finishing up a medical assignment there, and what starts out as a one night stand quickly turns into something so much more. As the threat of danger becomes more imminent, seeming to pop up around every turn, the sitaution forces Elle and Trey to go into seclusion, where things get even more heated. Trey wants more, Elle is determined not to go there with him or anyone, due to circumstances beyond her control resulting from past tragedy. When everything comes to a head, however, love sometimes means be willing to sacrifice everything, and the rewards you reap for doing so are often much better than you could have ever dreamed.

Holding fire is an action-packed romance filled with danger and suspense, and plenty of hot alpha males and the women that give them a run for their money. I loved both Trey and Elle, and the secondary characters were awesome. The story itself was well-written, well-paced, and kept my undivided attention from beginning to end. I can't wait to see what April Hunt has in store for the rest of the hot bunch.
