Welcome Back to The Grid

Jess William Bailey has a history of being a very bad man. But that was the past—now he’s the most brutal of the bad-asses as leader of the Wires—the toughest and deadliest warriors on The Grid. He makes no excuses, feels no guilt for what he has to do and keeps both at bay with women, drink and violence. But his time is quickly running out and Jess has a solitary goal to make sure he leaves at least one good thing behind—his daughter, Sophia. A child that has been raised by the woman he still loves, Emma and the man that used to be the former dark-side of his split personality, Reno Sundown.
The last thing Jess has time for with his collapsing time frame is the beautiful, tough San Fran police detective, Beth Daniels getting in his way.

Beth has always been the one to handle everything that came her family’s way and all she has left is her mother who isn’t able to take life’s hard hits. Beth has worked obsessively in the police department to become one of the toughest detectives with a high crime solution rate. But there’s a serial killer in San Francisco and the city’s women are the targets for the cold-hearted murders. She thought she found the psycho doing the deed. But Jess William Bailey is a whole different brand of killer—one she’s told to stay away from. Which she would be glad to do—if somehow she could.

The Cowboy is totally country.
The Cop is completely rock-n-roll.
Can their two very different beats combine to form a heartbeat of a lasting kind?
And can it survive when Hell wants to kill the song?

From best-selling author Jas T. Ward, comes the newest Story from the Grid of the Shadow-Keepers Series: COWBOY

"I got this book from eBook Discovery. This is my honest review"
Omg where do I start.. I've never read a book like this before but I've already just bought the rest of the series plus the Companion Novellas (Ebooks Only) I just hope there are more to the series as the ending leaves you wanting more. It can be read as a stand alone but I'm sure once you read it you'll be like me and wanting more.
As I was reading it I just loved the storyline and the romance, the idea of the bad boy (cowboy) turning good then it flipped, at first I nearly put it down because to be honest it confused me, so I re-read it and even though it was a tad clearer I was non the wiser so I just carried on with the book thinking it'd not enjoy it anymore.
How wrong could I have been it was a brilliant twist to the story that started as a normal cowboy romance. I was hooked and didn't put it down from start to finish and read it in less than a day! Now I can start with the other books tomorrow and I can't wait.
If you love a story that's full of twists with romance and mystery, plus the paranormal thrown in, even if you've never read any paranormal before I'd recommend it. I was normally a romance and nothing else type of reader but this has opened up a whole new reading genre for me, I'll never have a book out of my hands now.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope you do if you get it.

I base my star review off how entertained I was with the story. The story is a unique take mixing several paranormal elements with a touch of old west and modern day. Like a banana split.

I enjoyed the authors humor and several great lines presented themselves inside the book. My favorites are:

"And there it is. Bullshit masquerading as charm." ~Beth (leading female)

And another dialogue piece with Beth and Cowboy:

"Did you neuter my truck?"
Beth smirked and put her hands on her hips. "Yes. A man's truck shouldn't have way bigger balls than he does."

The characters inside the story are mostly well developed. Jess, Cowboy, has a strong charming personality and as a reader I could tell how much the author has put into her characters. They have great passion and I connected. I think Jess is the author's favorite though.

Some elements in the story had me rereading trying to make sense of things, but that could be details from other books I have yet to read. I would say it does work as a stand alone read...but reading the others would be beneficial as I feel the author left some fun Easter eggs for readers that probably hint back to other stories.

I had some trouble with point of view and switching back and forth a little too often.

I enjoyed the authors writing style and do intend to read other books by this author.

I absolutely love this series and all of the fun characters that the author has created within the stories. Jess is featured in Cowboy and I’m so happy that he got his own story and we get to see this Lothario drop to his knees when it comes to his feelings for Beth. Beth is a bad-ass all in her own right and these two create a combustible combination with their pairing.

It’s difficult to summarize the story without giving away too much, but I can’t stress enough how much I adore the interaction between these two strong characters! The dialogue was hilarious and at times had me laughing out loud and not realizing it. My own personal life has been in shambles, lately, so for me to laugh as hard as I did is a great thing! Thank you, Ms. Ward!!

I can’t stress enough how great this book is! The entire series is worth reading from beginning to end. Again, the author knocks it out of the ballpark with this story and her writing and I only want more and more from her and her amazing muse!

Finally, Jess has his own book! As much as I enjoy reading about our loveable Reno and Bounce (I MISS BOUNCE), I have been looking forward to reading a book where everyone’s favorite Cowboy gets to be center stage of the story.

William Jess Bailey is the most notated warrior working for The Grid and while he shines at his job he has a past littered with lots of heartbreak, pain and darkness. He’s a bad boy with list of bad deeds that could fill a few books up but he has one bright spot in his life, his daughter Sophia and he will make sure along with Reno and Emma that she’s protected and loved. However, time isn’t on Jess’s side and he’s come to the realization that he’s going to have to say goodbye to everyone very soon and pay up for all the bad things he’s done in his life but when he meets a confident, beautiful and tough police detective named Beth, he’s going to have to face some roadblocks he didn’t anticipate and find a way to make sure she’s protected and loved before Lucifer comes calling.

Cowboy is a great stand-alone book as well as a great addition to the Shadow-Keeper series. The storyline is interesting, fun and exciting. I found myself laughing a great deal while reading about Jess’s past and present adventures. His interactions with Beth were the cherry on top of the sundae of fun. Ward always writes witty characters with great sarcastic punch lines. They’re fun yet endearing and you care deeply about what happens to them. Even when they screw up, and man do they screw up, you are rooting for them to find happiness and love. Jess and Beth make a great couple and the story has a host of twists and turns that will keep any reader engaged.

I can’t wait for the next book and for some more Bounce time but until then I will take with me this life lesson I learned from Beth, “….a man's truck shouldn't have way bigger balls than he does."

Cowboy is a wonderful tale, chock full of unique twists and paranormal elements reminiscent of early Sherrilyn Kenyon but peppered with 100% of Ms. Ward's great command of creative ingenuity.
Her characters are chock full of depth and layers that slowly, teasingly strip themselves away in the process of the plot as it unfolds to reveal their true selves. That's always a hit or miss with every author but this author is able to appreciate the finer nuances and gray areas of her character's personalities and presents them in a wholly confident manner that enable the reader to relate, even with the not so good guys.

Ms. Ward doesn't take your hand and gently guide you into her worlds, she walks with you to the edge of the unknown and gives a hearty push into them. It's never the fall that kills us, it’s the sudden stop at the end (i.e., the last page, last word) and the forced awakening/transitioning from her world back to ours. Write faster, please.

As for the central couple, Jess and Beth. Holy Caramel M & M's...they sure do melt in the mouth AND hands with their sexy back and forth, sweetly seductive tension and roller coaster plotline. Quippy, clever and addictive, the reader can't help but get emotionally invested in the much beloved Cowboy.

This one has it all - the Old West...paranormal...lost love...second chance at love...the devil himself!

All I can say is WOW! This is my first Shadow Keepers book, but it won't be my last.

I have to admit that at first I had no idea what direction this story was going to go. But holy paranormal Batman - that was some twister!! If you've read the series from the beginning - that probably made more sense at first than it did for me, BUT you definitely can start with this one and fall in love with Jess.

This one really checked all the boxes, in my opinion. Jess isn't a perfect man, but he is one sexy cowboy and his interactions with Beth in the present day are funny and witty with some great chemistry. This one definitely has angst throughout and you just have to believe that things will work out for Jess and Beth, but with the devil himself involved - maybe not?|!?

I highly recommend this book and can't want to delve into the rest of the series.

Carla's Three Star Review

Cowboy is a unique story that takes place in both the present and the past. It is crafted around several elements including the wild west, the paranormal, lost love, and second chance romance.

William "Jess" Bailey is the very epitome of a bad boy. Like most bad boys, he is sexy and has a charm that could bring a nun to her knees. He is a great character-one you will like from the very start. His story is filled with many twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

If you haven't yet discovered the awesomeness of this author, you are in for a real treat. One click it now!

First time reading this author with it totally being unexpected the depth the author pulled me in. It has many elements I love when reading with it also being a bit on the dark side. I kinda am disappointed too that this is the third one in this one already of the series. This is also not the norm but a bit twisted which my mind enjoyed. There is also a bit of humor intwined so with that I was surprised too. This was one unique read that had the main character Jess and the other Beth was used to kidnap me this author does not let go easily keeping you riding till the end.

Fantastic book

Jas writes books that are fast paced, intelligent, intriguing and fascinating. Her characters come alive to me. Her writing style switches characters from one paragraph to the next. So you literally not knowing what or who comes next.
Cowboy storyline started in Madness as Jas writes him as there. How we follow him more in-depth. Learn his history and his future.
Loved it

I loved getting to know Jess’s story in this exciting and unique world that Jas T Ward has created about the Grid. Cowboy is such an important role and his character is described in such clarity by his actions and looks that his character seems to come to life in this book. I can’t wait for the next one! Great story

Welcome Back to The Grid…For One Hell of a Wild Ride!

First of all I loved this book…second of all it’s a must read…third of all buy this book! A definite must for fans of romantic suspense reads who enjoy a mix of supernatural elements…oh and did I mention an immortal cowboy that’s sexy as sin itself!

Jess William Bailey has an antiquity for being a very bad man, but that was in the past. He’s now the most fierce and ruthless leader of the Wires, the toughest and deadliest warriors on the Grid. He makes no excuses, feels no guilt for what he has to do and keeps both at bay with women, drink and violence. But his time is running out…

The last thing Jess has time for with his crumpling time frame is the beautiful, tough San Fran police detective, Beth Daniels getting in his way.

Beth has always been the one to handle everything that came her family’s way and all she has left is her mother who isn’t able to take life’s hard hits. Beth has worked obsessively hard in the police department to become one of the toughest detectives with a high crime solution rate and move up the department’s career path. But there’s a serial killer in San Francisco and the city’s women are the targets for the cold-hearted murders. She thought she found the psycho doing the deed.

But Jess William Bailey is a whole different brand of killer…one she’s told to stay away from. Which she would be glad to do…if somehow she could...

Cowboy is the fifth instalment in Jas T. Ward’s The Shadow-Keepers Series, and the first in the series that I have read as it can be read as a standalone, but I have since reading this purchased the other books in the series. I enjoyed the uniqueness of the plot, it is cleverly written and flows with effortless ease, creating a storyline and characters that I fell in love with instantly. The witty banter and one liners were some of the funniest I have read in a while. Beth was strong, sassy and kick ass and a perfect match for Jess who was equally bad ass and likeable. I highly recommend everyone to saddle up and find your inner COWBOY

Cowboy is book #5 in the Shadow-keepers (paranormal) series of books. It opens in The Old West during 1869. We meet William Jess Bailey, and learn about his early years of hardship in a frontier town. Jess is described as having a split personality; an invisible friend lives inside his head, whom he names Sundown.

As a young man, Jess joins a gang of thieves, and a large reward is offered for his capture, which a deadly bounty hunter seeks to collect.

The book then leaps forward 200 years, to modern day San Francisco, where we meet Detective Beth Daniels who is investigating a series of murders. Jess, we discover, was saved from the horrors of death by Bounce, a warrior who fights against rogue demons. Jess is granted immortality; in return he must join a group called The Grid, and become a fighter for them.

I was at a disadvantage, when reading this book, because I haven’t read any others in the series, so I had to play catch-up on some of the back stories of both characters and situations. I suspect, for instance, Jess’s other voice, Sundown, has played an important part in a previous book, so that followers of the series will understand the part he plays. Certainly, the 200 year leap in the story-line was a shock I didn’t see coming and it took a while to get my head around the new story threads.

The fiery relationship between Beth and Jess was enjoyable, especially the way the modern city girl was persuaded to change he opinion about Country music. I was keen to learn more about The Grid and Lucifer’s personal plans in the larger game he was planning, but was left a little frustrated, so I think I should have begun with book #1 of the series.

I recommend this book, in the series, to those who enjoy their paranormal mixed with strong language and hot romance.

** EDITED REVIEW **

And Jas T Ward has done it again. I have waited eagerly to read Cowboy and as a massive fan of the Shadow Keeper Series; Madness, Lust, Bounce etc. This story does not fail to deliver, William Jess Bailey is unlike any character that I have seen out there, in fact there isn't a character out there that can be compared to him. Just when I think Lust couldn't be topped, then there is Cowboy. Bringing back all the amazing characters from the previous stories, it's the perfect story.

It's a story that has to be read more than once to take everything in, and solidifies my love for the series. I can't wait to read more of this series. It's one of the best series created. I can't wait to read Murder.

This story has everything that you could ever want, and the classic one liners are brilliant. The bond between Beth and Jess is epic, and there are scenes in this story that really tug on the heart strings. I couldn't stop reading the moment I started, it's a true masterpiece

** EDITED REVIEW **

Formerly known as The Shadow Keeper Series and now known as The Grid Series. Pretty sure I've lost count on how many times I've read Cowboy. And each and every single time I do read it, it just makes me love Jess and Beth more. Seeing how their relationship develops to finding something in one another that they need in their lives...other than an escape which is what they both found first.

I love revisiting the earlier/past moments before everything goes to hell in the future. It reminds me of how much I love this book and this series.

And still agree with everything that I said up there. Love this book.

I loved some of the dialogue between the characters and internal conversations and snark. There was a lot of explanation due to this being a third book in the series, however it is a story standing alone. Be prepared for surprises and twists. The opening tells us about Cowboy's beginning—just when you think you know what's going on—you don't. However, the author does catch us up introducing necessary info and characters.

Bad Ass Immortal meet bad ass lady cop—lady might be exaggerating. Everybody loves a bad boy with a heart—especially when they profess not to have one. Beth likes him because he doesn't have one and there is no time in her life for a guy—sex yes—great sex—for sure. Enter Jess who fits the bill. They both fight the real bad guys, however on different planes.

While adding protecting their hearts, Jess realizes immortality has definitions. He may live forever just not necessarily here. A choice made in the past to save another side of himself, and the woman he loves has come back with consequences unforeseen. Because of these and to protect the daughter he loves, he gave up her mother to his other half and works for the little girl's love.

For a man who believes himself unworthy of love, there are a lot of people who care and want to save him. Is Beth one of them? Can they both get past their determination not to feel and fall in love? It could be very important in so many ways.

If you like surprises, fun sassy dialogue, strong stubborn people and glimpses into a dark side you'll love this one. Good one WORDS TURN ME ON.

Got it, read it, LOVE IT!!! Jas T Ward has done it again, & it just keeps getting better & better with this series. I fell in love with this series from the first page of Candyman, & I'm so glad that Cowboy got his own book. All of Ward's characters are badass - male or female - but Beth really takes the cake. How you ask? You're going to have to read to find out! Though this book is part of a series, it's so well-written & is such a great story that it can stand alone. If you'd like a story that is an emotional roller coaster ride of sarcasm, fun, anger, & tears, this book is for you. Now, as our Cowboy would say, "Go on, git & buy this book!"

only the ugly things lie behind eyes that are closed. When they're open...they see so many beautiful things. Who wants to miss that by lovin and closing their eyes."

Jas T Ward your imagination and creativity are stunning and I am constantly amazed by your work. I have read two completely different pieces of your work now and am constantly surprised by your talent.
If this story were a painting it would be bold, vivid colors. The colors aren't all necessarily bright, which makes the story that much more interesting. Ward pulled me in immediately and didn't let go. This story is full of sweetness and light, balanced with angst, dark, and just a touch of humor. There is never a dull moment with twists and turns and shocks galore.
I have not read a lot of paranormal as it has not ever been "my thing" so to speak, and I loved this story. I'm in and will definitely be catching up on the rest of the series.
