Treatments for pancreatic cancer

There are different treatment options for people with pancreatic cancer. In this section we explain the different treatments available, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

To work out the best pancreatic cancer treatment for you, your doctors will look at the type of pancreatic cancer you have and the stage of the cancer. They will also look at other things such as your age, and your general health and fitness.

Your medical team will talk to you about your treatment options. It’s a good idea to have someone with you at this appointment – they can support you and help you remember the conversation. You may also want to think about questions to ask your doctor or nurse.

Whatever your options, having treatment is your decision. It can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to decide anything straight away.

Questions to ask your doctor or nurse

  • What treatment do you recommend for me?
  • What is the likely result of this treatment?
  • What are the benefits and risks of this treatment?
  • What are the possible side effects?
  • Can I get a second opinion? How do I go about getting one?
  • Are there any clinical trials that I could take part in?
  • What happens next?
  • Who should I contact if I have any questions?

Coronavirus and pancreatic cancer treatment

There may be some changes to your treatment because of coronavirus. For example, you may need to have a coronavirus test before having treatment.

Speak to your doctor or nurse about what coronavirus might mean for your treatment.
