Scott Davies finally feels like he’s part of the team at Reading, even though he’s currently on loan at League One strugglers Wycombe Wanderers.

The goal-scoring midfielder joined the club as part of a one-month loan deal last month and the Reading Post understands the Chairboys are in discussions with Royals over extending his deal by another month.

Davies was new manager Gary Waddock’s first signing after he took over at Adams Park and the former Aldershot Town boss knows him well after the 21-year-old spent the last two seasons on loan at The Rec.

And the Republic of Ireland Under-21 star said: “This year I really feel like a Reading player more than any, even though I’m back out on loan again.

“I spent two seasons back to back at Aldershot and was never really around , but it’s good to feel part of something here now as my aim is to play in the first-team at this club.

“I think the manager phoned Reading within about half an hour of getting the job and I was happy to come and help him out.

“It’s all going really well and I’ve played (four) games since coming here and manager to get three goals for them already.

“It’s important that I’m playing games though and if it means going out on loan then I’m happy to do that.”

Like his parent club, Wanderers have struggled for form this season and find themselves languishing at the bottom of the table with just six points from 15 games.

Davies has set himself the target of helping Wycombe claw their way back to safety before returning to Madejski Stadium.

He has already chipped in with three goals this season, including a 40-yard free-kick taking his total senior goals to 27, all of which have been outside the box, bar six penalties.

He continued: “I do feel like there is a bit of pressure as I’ve got a job to do to try and help the club get up the table.

“But personally, coming here is all about getting games so I can improve and  help Reading in the long run.

“I never expected to start the first three Championship games of the season for Reading and that was a bonus for me to be honest.

“I’m playing in a 4-3-3- formation at the moment with Wycombe as an attacking midfielder, and lots of people say the club is like a mini Reading in a way.”

Even though Davies isn’t part of Rodgers’ first-team plans right now, after making three Championship starts at the beginning of the season, the 36-year-old boss keeps in touch with his young star on a regular basis.

And Davies added: “I speak to the gaffer and other coaches at Reading quite a bit and they always check up on how I’m doing, sending a few texts here and there and making calls.

“There’s a scout that comes to watch me at every game and I also go back to Reading to train with the first team about once or twice a week as well.”
