Chasing Ellie

Rate this book
I’m the wild girl whose mom decided she didn’t want to live anymore.

I grew up with a daddy who only had half a heart, in a town where everyone knows everyone. I’ve feared love nearly my whole life because I’ve seen first-hand what losing it looks like. It’s ugly, it’s scary and its pain is almost unbearable.

When I was nine years old, my daddy told me you’ll only find one true love in this life.

“It’s the rarest but truest love there is, Little Miss. You find it and you never let it go.”

But I didn't share the chief’s feelings.

Until one summer day, when a brown eyed boy with a busted lip and a smirk, showed up in the small town of Green Ridge. Tommy Kingsley started to change everything. The boy from the south side of Chicago taught me that love isn't something to be feared and that it's the only thing that makes everything else worth it. He gave me hope and this story tells you how.

I read this for Cash. And for that reason I’m so disappointed I crave a epic love in my reads. When a man finds his true love no one else compares or measures up. So why did Piper play a part and for so long and for him to just let her go that was wrong. 😒 Ellie and Tommy was ok.

Chasing Ellie was literally about Tommy chasing Ellie. He pined for her for years never shying away from his feelings for her. Ellie remained indifferent towards Tommy never claiming more than friendship. Ellie could not wait to run away from her small town leaving Tommy behind. Back and forth they spent wasting time apart without trying to figure out how to make the relationship work. Ellie was too stubborn and set in the idea that love would destroy her dreams.
Chasing Ellie was a slow and steady paced story about Ellie taking her sweet ass time in determining that it's better to find love than too not have found love. However, once Ellie realized what love felt like she had no idea how to keep it. Ellie lacked the ability to show love with actions.

Tommy and Hudson were brothers who grew up poor, in an unstable home, with their unemployed alcoholic father in Chicago. Ronnie moved them to a small town in Green Ridge to live in his mothers home. The boys learned to take care of their father, earn money, and pay bills.

Tommy met Ellie the first day he arrived in Green Ridge. She was the police chief's daughter. Ellie was the daughter of Cash and Sara whom we met in the previous book. Sara's story was in Chasing Fireflies, but Chasing Ellie recapped the events leading up to her death. This story could easily be read by itself. This was a spinoff of those characters including both Cash and Ellie. Cash raised Ellie on his own after losing Sara to her illness.
Ellie's character was fearful of falling in love after watching her father struggle to live life without Sara. Ellie developed bipolar reactions towards love. Ellie knew what love felt like yet she battled against her heart with hot and cold actions both pushing and pulling on Tommy's emotions.
Tommy's character was constantly chasing Ellie reminding her he loved her and wanted her regardless of her fears. Tommy time and time again would not give up on her no matter how indecisive she became.

This was one of those stories where they spent more time apart than together. The entire premise of this story was about Ellie being wild, carefree and indecisive. Too many barriers continue to block their way and Ellie found she was suffocating in the small town. Tommy hung his heart out for Ellie to pulverize. All Tommy wanted was to be enough for her to love. He wanted Ellie to take a risk at love. The girl who didn't shy away from danger was afraid of opening her heart to love.

I liked that Cash never treated Tommy like he wasn't good enough for Ellie. I was rooting for Tommy the entire time. I remained indifferent towards Ellie. I have a hard time with characters who run away from their fears rather than face them head on.

I always struggle with these types of stories where the characters have a constant push and pull. The issue is their actions create the problem not the feelings. One character puts more effort, time, and energy into making the relationship work while other character remains indecisive causing the rift. The bigger issue is when they get back together it's usually because of the circumstances and not the actions of the characters. Rather than run towards love the character accepts defeat for their choices. Once again they are back where they started and the cycle begins again until one of them makes the choice to break the cycle. I can guess which character is the one making that choice, the one who was not afraid to express feelings and back those feelings up with the right actions.
I got tired of the back and forth action and the endless wasting of time. I'm more a believer of growing together not separately.

6+++ 'Life is forever changing.' Stars

*****Although Chasing Ellie can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading Chasing Fireflies in order to experience the full emotional onslaught of this beaut! *****

There are books that make you feel, then there are books that become one with your soul, your being, and Chasing Ellie is just that! Paige P. Horne takes us, the reader and characters, on a profound and beautiful journey through the emotional battles of life and love in this heart wrenching yet soul soothing narrative experience.

'When I was nine years old, my daddy told me you'll only find one true love in this life. It's the rarest and truest love there is, Little Miss. You find it and you never let it go.'

Wild, carefree, and adventurous, just like her mama was, Ellie Williams is a free spirit and easy going in all things life except where her heart and love is involved. Chasing Ellie spans over a decade, following her from adolescence to watching her bloom into a beautiful and intelligent adult. Life hasn't been a walk in the park for her. Plagued by the reputation of the girl who's mother killed herself, watching her father struggle to move on, living with only half his heart intact, she's learned to protect hers. Children see more and are more intuitive than people are aware, thus in some shape and form, plays a part in molding who they are, what they want to be and do in life.

'I don't want to fall in love. It cripples you. I've seen it happen.'

At times I became frustrated with Ellie's character. I just wanted to shake her and tell her to open up her mind, her heart, to just give in to the lure of love. Embrace it! Feel it! Live it! Love... it's such a fickle bastard at times. BUT at the same time I understood her hesitation, fears, and longing to cave to it all. Not only did she have her daddy wrapped around her finger, she had me too.

She's been his since the first moment he laid eyes on her. Rough around the edges, Tommy Kingsley is definitely not your typical boy next door. He's had a hard childhood, and growing up on the south-side of Chicago isn't a walk in the park. So different, yet so alike. I can see why Ellie and Tommy are drawn to each other. They truly are each others yin/yang, the calm in each others perfect storm. He wants more than friendship while she's paralyzed in fear of their relationship changing, that it couldn't go back to what it was if they took that next step, a jump in faith.

'Sometimes life is tough, and other times you make it that way by crappy choices. I get bored easy so I can't commit like Tommy. I'm a liar too because committing is not my problem. Love is. Getting too close is. The fear of someone owning my heart and crushing it is.'

My love for Tommy Kingsley wasn't immediate, he slowly grew on my throughout the story. His perseverance, strength, and will to better himself, to be worthy of Ellie's heart and trust for life set my heart ablaze. He really is book boyfriend material!

'He's what my dreams are made of. He's the sweetest thing that ever happened to me and the only person who can make me feel this way. Alive and so loved.'

Their story is one of turbulent emotions with a magnetic pull so intense yet so fragile the slightest twist of events could sever their connection once and for all. The execution of their story is 'on fleek' *wink* spanning over so many years, not feeling rushed along. Paige P. Horne did a stellar job delivering this heart-wrenching yet uplifting story. It's real, it's raw, it's a one of a kind book that you won't soon forget. A top read of 2017!

There's no way that you cannot love this book. It has all the feels because even though it might make you sad and angry at times, there’s also lots of hope and happiness to make you feel good.
And we all know that things often get worse before they get better.
'People say time is the only thing that can heal a broken heart, but I don't know if that's true. I think sometimes a heart just stays broken.'

description

The Story:
Ellie Williams learned early on about the pain love can bring. Her father lost the love of his life and is nothing but a broken shell ever since. Even though Ellie is known to be wild and carefree, she’s also terrified of loving someone because of what happened to her parents.

When Tommy Kingsley moves to Green Ridge and into her life, she finds herself a best friend. But when their feelings grow, everything changes between them.

While Tommy has his heart set on his wild girl, she seems to struggle with accepting her feelings. And when a wild girl feels caged in and scared, she will most likely break loose and run.
'I never wanted to find that kind of love, and I swore every time I helped the man with a broken heart off the old hardwood, I'd never look.'

description

Thoughts:
As much as I loved the story, Ellie was a challenging character for me. I wanted to love her because she’s the result of an undying and out of the world kind of love between her parents. I couldn’t help it and got angry and annoyed at her a few times. It didn't matter what she did, as soon as Tommy said something she didn't want to hear, she fought him. Maybe I’m biased because I loved Tommy <3 but I actually would have acted the same way that he did almost all the time. She was selfish and I get her reasons for being cautious and restrained because she’s scared to love and of getting hurt but at some point this didn't matter anymore and she still fought him at every chance she got. I got mad at her when she didn't for once just stop and think about how he might feel and how it must be for him in the situation. I guess I was just disappointed that she wasn’t more understanding.

I adored Tommy and even though both haven't been without fault I still thought a few times that he would've been better off without her.

Tommy had to grow up early because of his father. He and his brother had such a great relationship. I loved how they gave each other shit but in a brotherly way. I am proud of who they've become despite their father. It showed that despite your upbringing you can make something of yourself.

What I loved most about the story were the different stages of Ellie's and Tommy's relationship. They grew up together and I can imagine that it's a challenge to love so early while still growing up and experiencing different things that put their friendship/relationship to the test.

I absolutely loved to read about Cash. His story (Chasing Fireflies) was the absolute best and I was always so heartbroken because of him. There were some really sad moments (which will have a different effect on the reader whether they've read the first book or not.). I was deeply moved because Cash is still one of my favorite characters. Despite everything he went through and of what happened in this book I think that the ending was well chosen and I liked it a lot even though I shed some tears until then.

If you plan on reading the first book, which you should because it's amazing! You should read it before this one because this spin-off is a spoiler book for the first one and I believe that the reading experience will be a lot different depending if you’ve read the first book or not.

4.5 stars! ARC review!

The angst was strong with this one! I feel exhausted and my emotions are all over the place after reading Ellie and Tommy's story. You know a book is really good and unforgettable when you cry throughout the entire time.

I highly suggest you read Chasing Fireflies to get the gut wrenching feels when reading Chasing Ellie. It is not necessary, but I highly recommend you do because it is one of my top reads and another unforgettable love story. #CashWilliams<3

"Ellie Williams, the girl who doesn't get too close."

If you have read Chasing Fireflies then you know that Ellie is the daughter of Cash and Sara Williams. We see Ellie grow up to be cautious when it comes to love. She doesn't allow for anyone to get close, not even her best friend, Tommy.

"I love you, Ellie. I always have, and I don't see that changing anytime soon, if ever."

Tommy loved Ellie from the start. We saw their friendship flourish into something more. But a lot happens and a person can only take so much before they give up and quit chasing them.

"You're just a man with scars, Tommy Kingsley. And I'm the woman who put them there."

I'm fully aware I'm being cryptic but I don't want to give away the story. Don't worry- it has a HEA :)

"She's my achilles' heel. I'm vulnerable when it comes to her affection, craving it like a junkie does their needle and spoon."

We go through an emotional journey with them and at times I wanted to throw my kindle because I was frustrated. This is the type of read that had me taking breaks because the feels were overwhelming :P I am not exaggerating!

"Love like ours lasts until a heart stops beating."

Get your tissues ready and get ready to embark on this emotional roller coaster. Paige did an amazing job and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!

Chasing Ellie is a beautifully tragic story filled with an enormous amount of emotions that will leave you with ALL THE FEELS as readers watch Ellie and Tommy navigate through their journey of love. This book had me laughing, screaming and in a fit of tears throughout every twist and turn of this captivating read. I literally devoured this story in one day because the moment I started, I knew there was no way I was putting it down until I reached the end.

This was my first introduction into Paige P. Horne's fabulously flawless writing style. The story was so well written and was able to capture my full attention (my roommate was literally talking to me for a good 5 minutes before I realized what she was actually saying). I couldn't take my eyes off of my kindle for a good two hours because I didn't want to. As soon as I finished I wanted to go an write my review and yet I couldn't get the words to come to me. There is so much I want to say about this story, but I don't want to ruin anything, and whatever I say would certainly do that. So... I am just going to end my review by saying that I strongly recommend this story and would suggest reading Chasing Fireflies first by the recommendations of fellow readers!

Arc gentilmente cedido pela autora e Give-me books. Obrigada.

Chasing Ellie: A Chasing Fireflies Spin Off by Paige P. Horne. Chasing Ellie is a stand-alone contemporary romance novel. Reading Chasing Fireflies isn´t required for better understanding. But I recommend to read this wonderful book too.

Chasing Ellie is Tommy and Ellie´s story.
Meet Ellie Williams, wild child - who´s mother commited suicide and a dad with only half a heart- living in a smalltown, Green Ridge.
She fears love.
And there is Tommy Kinsley, a teen from chicago who visits his relatives. He had a tough life. But he teaches her to love and gives her a story to tell.

And oh boy what a story that is.
This book had me at the edge of my seat and I read it in one sitting. I couldn´t put it down.
I loved the characters. I loved the words. Icould feel the characters emotions in the words. I hurt with them, laughed with them and cried with and for them.

Favorite Quote: " You´ll only find one true love in this life. "

I recommend Chasing Ellie: A Chasing Fireflies Spin Off and give 5 Stars. Thank you Paige Horne !

A truly beautiful story that will pull on every single one your heartstrings and make you believe in soul mates!

Ellie and Tommy are simply meant to be.

I found this author through a Facebook group and was recommended I start exploring her books with this one. I was NOT disappointed.

This is a story about 2 soul mates. About never giving up on the one you love. It's heartbreaking at times and frustrating even more. The way these two love each other is so beautiful and yet so broken.

You will be turning pages faster than your fingers will allow and staying up way past your bedtime. (I did twice)

I would definitely recommend this read to anyone that loves a good love story about holding on to hope. This will, for sure, not be my last book of Paige P. Horne.

** Review by Kylie from Bloggers From Down Under **

I've been eagerly awaiting this book since reading Cash and Sara's story (which incidentally was my number one too read).

This is Ellie's story, and folks, get ready for "all the feels".

"I'm the wild girl whose mom decided she didn't want to live anymore. I grew up with a daddy who only had half a heart in a town where everyone knows everyone. I've feared love nearly my entire life because I've seen firsthand what losing it looks like"

Without any spoilers, this book will pull you into the lives of Ellie and Tommy, their ups and downs and their tears (and possibly your own!!) and the fight in both of them.

This book will definitely go down as one of my all time favourites.

Paige, Thankyou for yet another superbly written, outstandingly beautiful story.

A definite page turner

I was given an ARC of tI washis book for an honest review.. You know the sign of a good book if it has you talking back to it. Ellie fell I. love with Tommy when she was a teenager but was afraid of love so she kept him in the friend zone. She saw what losing someone did to her dad and she was determined not to feel that pain. All Tommy wanted was a chance with Ellie. He was getting tired of being the "best friend " but was willing to take what she gave . But it wasn't it the cards for them . They both needed to grow up and find themselves. I could feel Tommy's pain bc he knew that she loved him but he couldn't take her fears away so he kept getting hurt. And she kept hurting herself by denying denying herself to truly love him. This book was an emotional rollercoaster, but worth the read

Chasing Ellie was amazing! It gives you all the feels. I could not put it down! I loved Ellie and Tommy!!! Their love is beautiful and I thought they had such amazing chemistry! I loved them together. This is a standalone but I highly recommend reading Chasing Fireflies, which is Ellie's parents Cash and Sara's book, because it was just as amazing as this!

An ARC of Chasing Ellie was provided to me for an honest review and was my first read by Paige Horne and I absolutely loved every word of it!! I fell in love with Tommy and Ellie from the very first moment they met!

Ellie is the girl who doesn't get too close or fall in love. She saw how it destroyed her dad (Chasing Fireflies book 1) and doesn't want to end up with a broken heart. Tommy is the boy who grew up fending for himself his whole life fighting for everything he had. When Tommy moved to the town Ellie lived the two hit it off and became best friends until Tommy wanted more and Ellie questioned her true feelings for him.

Their timing was always off, their friendship and relationship was tested more than once despite how hard Tommy tried to prove to Ellie he was her one true love. Tommy did everything for Ellie to prove his love, but Ellie was scared even when she thought she was all in she wasn't and that broke Tommy more than anything else Ellie did. Over the years they each grew individually but their hearts always carried a piece of the other and always brought them back together.

This book has so much emotion and love you can't help but feel for Tommy when his heart gets broken and for Ellie because shes afraid to take the steps she needs to be with Tommy. Horne developed these characters so well I felt like i knew them personally and didn't want their story to end. I would totally read their sequel if there ever was one! This is a must read book with all the feels and love you'd want in a book!!

Love

I read Chasimg Fireflies almost a year ago and idk why it took me so long to read the follow-up Chasing Ellie. This book was just as amazing as the first. It was heart breaking and healing. It was sweet and fiery. It was fun loving and angsty. I loved everything about these characters and the small town they live in.

I loved this book! This story started with Tommy falling in love with Ellie at first sight as teenagers. Ellie was afraid to love him based on her life's observation of the devastation her father went through losing the love of his life. She loved Tommy as her "best friend" but was afraid to admit that she really loved him. Their story is one of sweetness, angst, sadness, and ultimately unending love. A must read!!! I definitely look forward to reading more from this author. Thank you Paige!

So many feels! So many!
Chasing Ellie is an absolutely fantastic read. Spanning over ten years, we see Ellie from childhood to adulthood. Ellie has a tough life. She lives with the stigma of her mother, a father who only half loves her and the need to protect her heart. When Tommy shows up, a hardened boy from the rough, south side of Chicago, he is immediately drawn to Ellie. He wants more from her than she is willing to give and she can’t get over the need to keep herself protected from heartbreak and loss.
I went through every emotion while reading this beautiful story. I was immediately drawn to Ellie and her saga. Tommy, while rough around the edges, had a good heart and he tried his hardest not to push Ellie. I really appreciated the pace of the story. Nothing was forced or rushed. As a reader, I was able to really immerse myself in their world and their feelings.
Chasing Ellie is an engrossing read rife with emotional turmoil and full of so much heart. A must read!

This book was amazing! It was my first book by Paige, and it definitely will not be my last. Her style of writing & storytelling is exceptional. She took me on a journey that started when Ellie & Tommy were teenagers. I loved how Tommy chose to do more with his life than what he had growing up. Ellie's Dad gave her a good life, but she was terrified to fall in love, because she seen what loving someone & loosing them did to a person. It took her a long time to open up her heart, and when she did, she experienced the best kind of love. This book was filled with love, laughs, heartbreak, and an undeniable, everlasting love between Tommy & Ellie. I loved the journey & was sad when the book was over.

Chasing Ellie was the first book that I have read by Paige Horne. I absolutely loved it. Loved it so much that it will easily be one of my top reads for the year! A beautifully written story that takes you on quite a ride of emotions. I felt like I was right there beside the characters feeling them all…love, loss, anger, heartbreak and most importantly hope.

Chasing Ellie tells the story of Tommy and Ellie and their journey through life as they go from best friends to lovers. The other characters in this book were an intricate part of the story as well! Hudson, Cash, Ronnie…. I loved them all and found myself cheering as much for them as I did for Tommy and Ellie.

Paige Horne has a new fan! I can’t wait to read Cash and Sara’s story in Chasing Fireflies.

My heart hearts! Chasing Ellie is so much more than I expected. I knew I was going to love Little Miss’s story regardless of what was written, but the emotions you go through reading this has you wiping you eyes, smiling and wanting to shake Ellie for her stubbornness. Whewy she is a combination of her mama, Sara and her daddy, Cash AKA The Chief. She is the wild girl, much like her mama, but she thankfully didn’t get her illness and stubborn is putting it mildly just like her daddy. Little Miss is totally a daddy’s girl and has her wrapped around his little (OK, big) finger. Ellie’s memory of Chasing Fireflies with her mama still brings a tear to my eyes.
Ellie and the Chief make the best of the life together when Sara decided to leave her family. How she left is devastating and as I have said in a prior review from the Chasing Fireflies book, I hope that one day people with this illness have a cure. Cash was never the same and fell on some hard times that scarred Ellie in a way and led to her actions as you will see. True love at it’s finest even though it was devastating to see the hurt still after all these years.
Tommy a boy from the south side of Chicago and has had a life no child should ever have to live moves to the little town of Green Ridge. Tommy, his brother and Ronnie will touch your heart as well. Ok, well you may want to smack Ronnie numerous times, but I am glad after many years he saw the light. Tommy could have turned out differently and he didn’t. From the moment, he moved to town as Ellie asked, “who won?” that was it. He was a goner; Ellie was the love of his life. BF for years and while Ellie was blind to this for many years, your heart will hurt reading the story these two experience from teenage years to adulthood.
Your emotions are all over reading this. You get sad from hearing about her mom/dad, her relationship with Tommy, Bear, the house and the rough life Tommy had and the grandparents (still really after all this time). You get happy seeing the friends in Green Ridge who are like family, seeing many outcomes that will put a smile to your face (I want to say what, but that will be giving spoilers and you are not getting them from me) and the ending. My heart can finally beat normal! Haha You will be on the edge of your seat and will not want to put it down. Sleep and reality what is that?! You will feel like you are apart of this world and the experiences they go through will have hurting and healing all in one reading.
I loved that we got to see a POV on Cash as well. Hearing how he struggles and where he is at today puts a smile on your face. While I feel for Piper, his heart will always belong with Sara. You can have more than one love in your lifetime, but it will never compare to the first one. Ever. I really hope this is not the end of the Chasing series cause I’m sure others would agree that we need more Fireflies, more Williams and Kingsley’s in our life. Maybe we can see a wild child from Ellie.
This is a spin off series and about Ellie (the daughter) and you do not have to read Chasing Fireflies to fall in love with this story, but it will give you a background into the Chief and Sara’s story as well as Ellie when she was a little girl. Again, it will be your choice and does not need to be read, but you are missing out on heartbreaking, but touching story and message. This story is about hope and how you find love after loss. If you become one of those lucky people in life to find love, don’t let it go. Paige there is not a book yet that I have read by you that doesn’t become one of my favorites. You put us in their story and leave us with a message that maybe can help heal others experiencing similar situations. I look forward to your future stories. Tissues will be waiting (*wink/smiles**). Tommy will be one of your favorite book boyfriends cause in the end the Chase was worth it.

Ellie had lost her mother to suicide which devastated her father and he went into a shell. It was hard for him living in a small town where everyone knew your business.
Ellie was a wild and carefree girl. She was afraid of loving someone due to what had happened to her parents.
Tommy and his brother Ronnie were from the south side of Chicago and had moved to the small town. Ellie and Tommy became very close friends from teenage years to adulthood. Tommy was immediately enamoured with Ellie at a young age. Tommy was very patient with Ellie wanting her to open up her heart to him and receive the love he had for her.
The author has written a beautiful story leading us on an emotional journey with the characters hurting and healing. Moving forward.
I would definitely recommend this book. I can't wait to read the entire series.
I'm volunteering an honest review for an advance reader's copy.

This was my first book by Paige and I have to say that I am completely blown away. Her writing style is different from most authors and by being different she has allowed us a whole new spin on emotions. This book did not disappoint in any way, there was angst, drama, laughter and tears. The emotions just flowed off the page and wove their way into your heart and the sexiness was written in a way that allowed it to be cute and sexy, love making that did not come across as crass. I will be going back to read The Chasing Fireflies Series.

Chasing Ellie was an absolute BEAUTIFUL book. It was one of those EPIC romances. I love books like this that transpires over YEARS and shows how strong their love is for one another. Like I said, EPIC. While I was reading it got better and better for me. I was so invested I couldn't even get up and do ANYTHING until I was done. I laughed, I cried, I swooned through the WHOLE thing. By the time I was done I couldn't believe this was my FIRST Paige P. Horne book?! You better believe I'll read more from her after this one.

meeting at age 12, ellie meets Tommy. We get the honor of reading their story. The Story of Friendship love and trials. It's hard for Ellie to feel and she decides to find herself. When she finally figures it all out, you will be happy, sad, disappointed and then finally you'll be happy. I am giving my honest review for but I asked to read
