This world can beat you down.

Make you feel worthless.

Swallow you up in its darkness.

In the blink of an eye the people I loved more than anything, were taken from me.

Leaving me alone with no one but my abusive father.

If you get told you’re worthless often enough, you start to believe it.

You drink it in until it poisons your soul.

That was my life…until Justin.

The minute I saw Sarah, I knew she was special.

I wanted to claim her then, but she wasn’t ready.

Seeing her again, I know I’m done waiting.

I want her.

I’m not stopping until I make her see how special she is.

I want her to look in the mirror and see the woman I see, the woman who was made for me. Sarah thinks she doesn’t deserve me.

She doesn’t think I can understand the pain inside of her.

I have the same darkness inside of me.

I just need her to believe in herself and in me.

In us.

Can two damaged souls learn to trust and lean on each other?

Can they put their past behind them and learn just how beautiful life can be together?

Or when tragedy strikes, will it all be lost forever?

Favorite Quotes:

Debbie Double D doesn’t think I’m all that funny. She’s got a look on her face like she just ate the lime with no tequila.

Justin, I can hardly walk and chew gum at the same time. I swear the floor hates me and all chairs and walls are nothing but a bunch of bullies.

Yesterday’s pain has got nothing on what I feel like right now. It’s like Mac truck versus Godzilla with a little Freddy Krueger mixed in.

Fine! Stop begging me. I’ll go watch you with no shirt on, getting all sweaty, and doing all kinds of manly stuff. God, stop twisting my arm. Just know, I will only be watching you for educational purposes. It will not be for personal enjoyment at all.

My Review:

Taken in totality, N.B. Baker has created an engaging story and populated it with enticing and endearing characters to love as well as depraved and loathsome villains to despise and revile. The premise and major storylines of Belong were unique and interesting while the writing was laced with humor, sizzling sensual scenes, provocative inner musings and a heartbreaking family dynamic of abuse and loss. I adored this frisky couple and reveled in their ‘zing’ and sweet playfulness. That was until Sarah went off the rails following a life-altering trauma and became exasperating and extremely annoying, of course, I myself am always a total and utter delight following a life-altering trauma. In all honesty, I greatly enjoyed 75% of this book, however, within the remaining 25% the author, unfortunately, employed several of my least favorite tropes which tarnished my pleasure, but that is just my personal taste. Thankfully Sarah finally pulled her cranium out of her hindquarters and secured that sweet and oh so satisfying HEA.

Belong by N.B. Baker is a standalone and due to content, is recommended for readers 18+.

Almost ten years ago, Sarah Crawford’s life suddenly changed when she lost her mother and sister. Unable to cope with the grief, her father turned to drink and Sarah was left to care for herself. Her father is a mean drunk and blames Sarah for the death of his wife and daughter. Sarah tried to block everything out by partying but after experiencing a horrific experience and being rescued by someone unknown, Sarah makes changes in her life and now happily works at Delish; a local diner owned by Leila who has become a good friend and offers Sarah a safe place to stay when things become too much at home. Then Justin walks into her life and the moment she sets eyes on him, he gives her “that feeling like there are butterflies fluttering around in the pit of my stomach”. Who is this guy that she's unable to keep her eyes off and can't stop thinking about?

Justin Toma first saw Sarah a few years ago and never expected to see her again. Now that he has though, he's determined to get to know her better and treat her with the care she deserves. He has his own demons to deal with but has built a successful martial arts academy with his best friend, Jordan. Sarah doesn't know that Justin has seen her before or about the secrets that he's keeping from her. What will happen if Sarah discovers those secrets?

“Pulling out the bookmark, I escape into a world that I know will never be mine. A world where the hero would move heaven and earth to make sure his love knew how much he cherished and loved her. When just being close to each other makes them feel complete. Like two souls who belonged together.” - Sarah

I've never read a book by N.B. Baker before but this is one author I'll definitely be keeping updated with. Belong was amazing from start to finish and is well worth the 5 stars I've awarded it. I was taken on an emotional roller-coaster ride and couldn't turn the pages quickly enough as I was eager to see what happened next. This story is all about strength, survival and love. Justin is the protector or “hero” that Sarah so desperately needed and he supports her no matter what. Their journey isn't easy though and another tragic event takes place involving someone who Sarah thought was in her past. I don't want to go into any more detail about it because it'll spoil the story but I was left crying, hoping and then cheering. And the epilogue melted my heart as Sarah and Justin get a second HEA.

This is N.B. Baker’s second book. Her first, Everything, is also available to purchase and stars Ella Stone who we briefly meet in Belong. I can't wait to read Everything as I know it's going to be just as good because N.B. Baker is a talented writer who deals with sensitive subjects with great care and leaves you focusing on the positives rather than the negatives of what the characters went through. I would definitely recommend this book!

*I was lucky enough to win an ARC of Belong from N.B. Baker and this review is done voluntarily.

This story begins with our heroine Sarah being abused by her father because he feels that her mother and Stella her younger sister were killed and its her fault even though it was a drunk driver and a unfortunate tragedy. Her father is a worthless alcoholic after the deaths of them both.
Justin our main guy is just amazing. A exmartial arts instructor he blew his knee out in the cage. He comes into the restaurant Sarah works at, all charm and gentlemanly. He pretty much sweeps Sarah off her feet. They begin dating almost instantly. The night after her date she goes home to her father who beats her almost to death. The next day Justin comes and sees Sarah's injures and takes her out of her dads house to live with him. They live blissfully happy for a while but somebody lies in wait to destroy everything Sarah and Justin are trying to build.

I adore Justin hes a top book boyfriend. Hes so sweet and loving. Good hearted, loyal and completely adores and cherishes Sarah. Sigh...

Little trigger warning if you can't handle domestic abuse and rape maybe steer clear of this.

I give this book 4 stars, it was a fluff book with a few graphic scenes thrown in. But mostly about overcoming your past and trusting the people who truly love you.

3.5 Stars Warp Speed of Crazy

Belong by N.B. Baker has everything going on in it, including the kitchen sink. She makes these characters run the gamut of emotions and then some.

Sarah is in her twenties struggling thorough life at the moment. Well, she's been struggling for years with the father situation. The girl needs to get out, however still sees the sliver of hope that things will change. She is an emotional mess and also learned the hard way that masking it with booze and drugs isn't the way to go either.

Justin was a saviour once, took some time away and is now back to save again. He's only ever seen Sarah from afar, but knows she's the girl for him. Finally in a good space himself, he goes for it, hoping she doesn't remember exactly who he is.

Justin and Sarah start off with a huge secret between them, so that's all I could think about while reading. The reveal and the aftermath. Sure they went through the motions of getting to know each other and of course instantly loving each other, but that secret was killing me more than them..

The book is well written, predictable and a little choppy, but I got the gist. Belong has a good premise, however didn't fully hit the mark for me. I did like the little epilogue at the end to let us know how Justin and Sarah were doing it when it was all said and done.

What Sarah goes through in this book is beyond inhuman. I do not want to spoil the book for you, but she is faced with such abuse and suffering only the fact that she is a strong character allows her to survive.

As a love story, she and Justin are the best couple. He is everything a girl could possibly want. Not a billionaire, or a super mega star, etc. but instead a guy who knows who he is, what he wants, and who to give his undying loyalty to.

This is the second novel by this author. Both books a remarkable. She has the gift to look into her characters' soul and through her words, tell us all about it. It is because we are so intimate with her characters that we experience all the emotions of their struggle for survival. A remarkable gift!

I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I thank the author for sharing a copy with me.

This is such a great book. There are a lot of twists, and some great secondary characters to bring a little more light to the overall story line. This is my first book by N.B. Baker, and it won't be my last. The character development was amazing, they seemed to leap off the page, and were very real. The characters also had flaws, some big some not, and that also brings them down to a level anyone can relate to. This is told in Sarah's POV

Very Sweet

I must say this book was good and sweet. Justin is a true gentleman and a knight I'm shining armor for Sarah. She needed help and he was there to save her. What he didn't realize is that he saved her from much more then an abusive dad. He made her live again. The zing they both felt made her the happiest she's been in a long time. I will say that this is an insta love, Justin and Sarah move fast but not in a cheesy way, more like necessity. One thing I didn't like was that Sarah was open about her past with Justin but he kept his a secret. He didn't actually open up fully until almost the end of the book, he told little things along the way but nothing like end. I'm also kinda glad the author didn't go into full detail with Sarah, her dad and his thugs scene(I hope I didn't give much away). It was a heartbreaking and disturbing scene but vengeance was met that day. This was a good book an showed how when life gets rough, there's always love that will prevail in the end.

Compelling Story with Good Bones

There is a lot going on in this story, and it's almost ruined by the numerous misspelled and misused words... very distracting.

That said, the author creates compelling characters that readers can get invested in, the steam has some unique elements, and distractions aside, the story was compelling enough to plow through. This is an author who shows good bones, and who you want to succeed, but also introduce them to a good copy editor.

*ARC was provided to me in exchange for an honest review

I have to say that I was really surprised by this book. It started off slow for me and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it or not. Around the halfway mark, things started up pick up and become really intense. There were twists that were unexpected, and intense scenes that made me want to cry. My emotions were all over the place while reading this book. It’s heartbreaking and heartwarming, happy and sad. It’s intense and soft all at the same time. I love a book with strong characters. I love when an author can write a character with a strong background and have their personality reflect it.

Sarah and Justin both come from messed up paths. They’ve both been through some rough times in their lives by losing loved ones close to them. Sarah actually still lives in a nightmare with her abusive father. He blames her for what happened to their family. He tears her down, physically, emotionally and mentally to the point where Sarah has no self-worth. She doesn’t believe that she is good enough and that she bring nothing to society. Justin seeks out Sarah while she’s working at the diner. He comes in and strikes up conversation with her. They spend the night together just talking and holding one another.

Justin and Sarah have a strong connection and chemistry. Two people with broken pasts, coming together to be whole. More than one way they are connected and that’s where a lot of the shocking events unfold. Certain things come out of the woodwork and make themselves known. Truths are explained and feelings are mixed. There were times where I didn’t think that the characters could ever get through what they were going through. How could someone go through so much in their lifetime?

I think N.B. Baker did a great job at portraying these characters as strong individuals. The way they are as a couple also makes it enjoyable to read. There was sexy time, there was love and there was passion. But there was also trust that they had to get over. How these people progressed throughout the book shows integrity and strength. I’m happy that I got the opportunity to read this book and to be introduced to a new-to-me author. I will definitely be picking up another novel by N.B. Baker, and I highly recommend Belong.

I would like to note that this book is not suitable for young readers. There might even be scenes in this book that some adults will find offensive and trigger worthy. There are scenes of sexual abuse, strong language and some violence.

I have been waiting on this book for what seems like forever. I remember really wanting Justin and Sarah's story when reading N.B. Baker's debut, Everything. I dove into Belong with Gusto and high hopes. While I found the start a touch slow, it was packed full of emotion. And the pace really picked up after the first few chapters.

Sarah has had a hard life. I don't even know if hard is the right word to adequately describe all that she's been through. My heart broke for this girl who had her spirits torn down before she had a chance to fly. That is until Justin worked his way into her life and heart.

I liked Justin. A lot. He was charming but also a man's man. He had also survived a tragedy that life had thrown his way. It became his catalyst for something more for himself and it showed in his actions. In how he treated others, especially Sarah. He adored that woman. Fears, quirks, faults and hopes. I think my favorite thing was how he taught her to see herself through his eyes- as whole, beautiful, loveable. But Justin has a secret...

While I was expecting a bit more fallout when Justin's bombshell came to life, I'm kind of glad there wasn't. It showed Sarah's growth. I honestly feel that there is something about Sarah's journey that can resonate with everyone. Belong is so much more than bad thing happens to a girl and the guy helps her move past it. It's about learning to love yourself despite the garbage that has happened to you. It's about finding your place when you've been lost. And that ending- just a wonderful full-circle moment to solidify how far Sarah and Justin had truly come.

This would be my second read by the very talented N.B Baker Belong is so gut wrenching the characters go through so many things things that most wouldn't come back from I'm so happy to see that the hero and heroine found one another . Right from the first page my heart was put into over drive let me tell you I was sucked into what was going on I didn't put my kindle down till the very end . The hero is so swoon worthy adored him so much Justin had everything you would look for just wow total package . Sarah was such a strong heroine after everything she has been through and she still gets up in the morning to face another day her character grew alot through out the story with the help of sexy man a gang of friends and most importantly herself . They just made the perfect couple when we find out some stuff about the past I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin , the way Justin and Sarah are with one another is truly incredible I hope to see more from them the end really got me very close to tears and any author that can do that is just amazing .

Belong is one of those books that is a little difficult for me to review as I have conflicting feelings about this book. Belong is the story of Sarah, a young woman who, after the deaths of her mother and sister, is left to deal with her abusive father. The man crawled into a bottle, unable to deal with the loss of part of his family and brutally blames the daughter he still has. Sarah lets festering guilt keep her as her father's punching bag. Then there is Justin. He is a mystery as comes into Sarah's life seemingly with a purpose but what it is, beyond falling for and protecting her is unclear.

The base story of Belong is excellent. NB Baker's portrayal of Sarah is thorough, giving the reader a true feel for who she is and why she does the things she does. You understand her deep grief and even why she stays at home with a father that does nothing but hate her. She is trapped between wanting to leave and wanting to stay close to the memories of her mother and sister. My main issue is how Sarah's rape during her teen years is talked about but almost in an off hand way. NB explains what happened but just leaves it hanging and doesn't make it a part of Sarah's emotions. Justin is the knight in shining armor. Alpha, strong, emotionally open, though his motivations are shrouded beyond his attraction to Sarah.

This is a poignant tale of survival and growth that will pull at your heart and bring tears with scenes that difficult to read with an ending that is as shocking as it is touching.

Sarah Crawford is 21 years old and just managing to survive. Her life has not been the same since her mom and sister were killed by a drunk driver and since then she has become her dad's punching bag.

Justin Troma is 27 years old and owns a martial arts academy. He has had his own share of pain in the past. There is something that draws him to Sarah and he wants to do what he can to protect her from her pain.

Yet as the two begin to find strength in each other they are faced with another tragedy that threatens to ruin everything that they have managed to build. Can their love survive?

This was such an incredible moving and heartbreaking book that makes you want to believe that love can survive even the unthinkable tragedy.

My heart was in pieces for Sarah and what she went through at the hands of her father. I was just shocked at how she was still willing to protect him even though he nearly killed her. I was so glad that she had Amie and Leila to help her until Justin took over protecting her.

Justin was awesome and I loved how he protected Sarah and made her feel safe from everything. I also loved how once she healed he began to teach her how to defend herself. He had his own painful past and tried his best to overcome his own demons and get stronger.

I loved how Leila and Amie helped Sarah see that she is worth so much more than she believed herself to be. They did not let her push them away and they helped her see the good she had inside of her.

The end of the book was awesome and I absolutely loved it!

This was the first book I have read by this author, and it was an absolute pleasure to read. Told entirely from the heroine's POV, it was a story of one woman's journey of self-discovery, her ability to escape from the pain and suffering inflicted upon her in the past.

From the very beginning, emotions run hard and fast. Sarah and Justin were well matched from the onset. Both with pasts that they would love to forget - but it is their pasts that make them the strong characters that they are. justin's love for Sarah, regardless of her flaws, is what makes this story so special, so endearing. He enables her to see herself through his eyes - strong, beautiful and very loveable. But Justin has a secret - one that could destroy their relationship. What will Sarah's reaction be when she learns it? has she grown enough, in herelf, to accept Justin's past?

A beautiful story, with a few twists thrown in, to keep the reader interested. The developement of the characters throughout the story, is what intrigued me the most - they are definitely not one dimensional. I would definitely recommend this as a book to read. however, i will say that there are some triggers contained within the storyline.

I've been going over and over in my mind how to write this review for several hours now, and I'm still not quite sure how to do so without spoiler douchery. So I've decided that it will be a tad generic in order to not give anything away. Basically, Sarah is in her twenties, and gone through more than her share of struggles. It's made her an emotional hot mess that sent her on the path to drugs and alcohol. Justin was her savior, until he took some time away, but now he's back to save her again. That's all I'm giving away, and yes, I'm aware that it's confusing, but this story is a long and winding road of dark twists that had me dropping f-bombs in every direction, and it's taking everything in me to not give out all the details. It took me a bit to get on board with Belong, as it was a bit slow (in MY OPINION) at the beginning, but once it picked up, so did my heart rate, and I couldn't put it down. And still, I find myself very jacked up, long after that last page. N.B. Baker had an original writing style that created characters with depth, while their flaws made them realistic. She has me very intrigued to see what she puts out next, so I'll just end with HIGHLY RECOMMENDING Belong!

I loved this book. Sarah is such a strong woman. The amount of abuse that this girl has gone through and to still keep going is amazing. Justin has also had his fair share of heart ache and disappointment in his life and he still lives his days to the fullest. I absolutely loved him. His heart, his tenderness, the protective nature of him, just all of it.

This book has lots of twist and turns, lots of emotions, and some great friends to a girl that needs people to be there for her. The character development, the story line, the ending, I loved it all. This story will make you laugh, feel the love between the characters, love the sassiness of them, and will break your heart but you will love every minute of it and you won't want to put the book down until it is done.

This is the first book that I have read by N.B. Baker, but it will not be my last.

Sarah has had a rough life to day the least and so when Justin comes into her life, she doesn't know if someone is punking her or what. Why would someone like Justin want anything to do with her? With an abusive father who has done everything to make her feel as if she is worthless, when Justin shows interest in her, she has a hard time believing that there isn't a alternative motive.

Justin knew from the moment he saw Sarah that she belonged to him. All he wants to do is protect her and be there for her. He needs to build her trust, but is he moving to fast for the her? He doesn't want to spook her but he also wants to make his intentions known. She is his.

I loved Sarah and Justin. Their connection was powerful and real. I loved how Justin was there for her through it all. Even when she didn't know if she could trust him.

This is a great story, that will keep you up at night because you just can't put it down once you start. I love NB's storytelling. It grabs you from the start and makes you feel all the emotions of her characters. I highly recommend this book and author.

Emotional rollercoaster ride.

From the beginning of this book I was pulled into a new world where there were so many twists and turns that you cannot be sure about anything. Each and every word gripped me and wouldn’t let go. And I accepted that situation happily. Because I wanted to hold on tight to the story forever. Because it is that good.

I felt every emotion the characters felt. Every laugh, every cry, every frustration, just everything. I found myself swooning, crying, falling in love, getting my heart broken, and loving real hard.

This is a 5 star read without doubt. The characters are real, they share a special bond. And as you go through the pages you cheer for them, because they deserve to be happy. Of course, you know life is not easy, and they go through a lot. Life presents them various tests that in a way, makes their connection even stronger.

What Justin and Sarah share is incredible. Their relationship is raw, filled with passion and endless love. They belong together.

Heartwarming and absolutely beautiful.

The day after her date when Sarah goes home tragedy strikes but Justin is there to pick up the pieces and for a while everything seems perfect for them both but as with most stories someone is waiting to ruin what they have together and they have to work together to make sure the other person doesn't succeed and pull them apart.

I received this book as Arc promising a honest review so here's my shot. Where can I start, Sarah is the strongest women I know she has seen so many battle and has overcome every single one until she meets Justin. He will be her biggest battle since she's dealing with her past as well as trusting other unless the are in her circle. Justin Wow he's is every girl wet dream. I've never want to put a guy out of book to be just mine Lol. With this story you will read about some things that may be a trigger to some, but once you look behind the past and true read about the love from man to a women and he will do anything in power to protect what's his you will be sucked in to the greatness of Belong. I highly recommend this book.

I have to say this book was really good. The author really knew how to tell a story. I did feel the beginning of the book was tough just because the Author jumped right in and it was tough to hear what the main character went through. Without telling the story because I really think that its best to figure it out yourself while you read this. Hard life and low self esteem is something alot of people go through and its not an easy thing to get over. Having strong people by your side and being devoted to you is very important, which you find out while you ready this story. This is the first book I've read from this author and I would definitely read more books that this author wrote. Great read.....

My Review of Belong by N.B. Baker
My Rating is 4.5 Stars
This is a story of Sarah and her journey of personal growth, and survival of life’s torment. This was a first book from this author for me, and it was a touching read with many elements of how Sarah learns to get past all that life has thrown her way and Justin is just the man for the job of showing her life can be filled with more than tragedy it can be filled with love and happiness. This story gives you rollercoaster of emotional elements makes this one a great read!

I really, really wanted to like this story more. The plot pulled me right in & other than some editing / formatting issues, I was devouring the story. Justin & Sarah's relationship is so sweet & fun, even w/ all the issues they're facing.

And then the whole thing sorta derailed for me. There was plenty of drama going on & then MORE drama is added & it felt unnecessary, disjointed, and like it was placed in the story out of shock value rather than actual storyline. *sigh*

Altho this wasn't a winner for me, I DID enjoy the majority, and the ending is SUPER well done & I loved that part! : )
