Transitions Bike Program Graduates 2 Students to Jobs at B-Cycle
Vinny re-builds wheels at Boulder B-Cycle.
Community Cycles “Transitions” Bike Program works with young adults with disabilities. We teach them bike repair skills, get them a bike of their own and place them in a job where they can work on bikes. We have recently placed two students -- Vinny and Aiden -- in jobs at Boulder B-cycle.
Vinny, a Transitions student who has been interning at Community Cycles as an instructor assistant since November, was part of our class in September and October. In February he started working at Boulder B-Cycle as a wheelsmith, dismantling B-Cycle wheels that have developed faulty hubs, rims or both, and rebuilding them with new parts. This work requires precision and attention to detail, but more importantly, it's a strong beginning for a partnership between two Boulder bicycling non-profits that each have much to gain, and to give.
Aiden, a mechanically gifted student, will be starting at B-cycle in the coming weeks, after one-on-one training classes at CC.
Thanks so much to Aaron’s Fund and the Community Foundation Boulder County for making this program possible.
