Two Pueblo men suspected of attempting to break into a storage unit were arrested Friday after a chase by authorities and one of the suspects being held at gunpoint by a homeowner.
Information provided by Sgt. Megan Richards states that Fremont County deputies were dispatched to the 800 block of Drake on a report of an in-progress trespass.
“The reporting party stated that there were suspicious people at the storage units trying all the locks on the storage units attempting to get into them,” Richards said. “Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the parties believed to be trespassing had left in two vehicles, a green SUV and a blue truck, northbound on Field.”
Deputies located two vehicles matching the description traveling northbound on Field and attempted a traffic stop. Both vehicles fled the scene, traveling westbound to High Street, where deputies made contact with the green vehicle at the intersection of High and Orchard. The driver was identified as Rickie Dean Lopez, 49, of Pueblo, who was arrested without further incident.
Deputies then made contact with the blue vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of the state of Tennessee, in the 1300 block of Natalie. The driver then fled the scene on foot.
Cañon Police Department, the CCPD K9 officer and K9 Duke arrived on scene to assist deputies in the search for the driver of the blue vehicle, who later was identified as Christopher Brown, 34, of Pueblo.
“While deputies were searching the area, a homeowner in the area located a male party on their property and held the male party at gunpoint until deputies and officers arrived on scene,” Richards said.
Brown then was taken into custody on multiple charges.
Both suspects are being held at the Fremont County Detention Center. Lopez was arrested on suspicion of driving under restraint and is being held on a $500 bond. Brown was arrested and placed on a no-bond hold on suspicion of aggravated motor vehicle theft, obstructing a peace officer, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, eluding police, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of Schedule I/II controlled substance and two warrants.
