SWIM: All-Academic Team Announced

The six-member 2018 In-Touch Credit Union Conference USA Swimming and Diving All-Academic team has been selected by a vote of the league’s member sports information directors, highlighted by four returning selections from last year’s squad. In order to qualify for nomination to the team, student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and serve as a key competitor of their respective team.

Letizia Bertelli | FIU | Sr. | Cremona, Italy
Bertelli, who is a two-time C-USA Commissioner’s Medal recipient, has earned a 3.82 GPA while studying international business. The senior swam in all 13 of FIU’s meets this season and notched four first-place finishes, including against Miami twice (50 Free and 100 Free), Tulane and Georgia Southern.  Bertelli set a career-best time in the 100 Back this season.  The 2017 Conference USA Swimmer of the Year, she competed in five events at the NCAA Championships in 2017.

Alicia Caldwell | Rice | Sr. | Sydney, Australia
Caldwell was selected to appear in Sports Illustrated “Faces In The Crowd” feature on Jan. 29, 2018.  She has earned both CSCAA Scholar All-America First Team, and CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention, in her Rice career and is a three-time selection to the C-USA Academic Honor Roll.  A member of the C-USA Swimming Academic Honor Roll, Caldwell has twice been named a Rice University Honor Athlete.  She was selected as the C-USA Swimmer of the Week twice this season.  (October 25 & December 20).  Caldwell has been an NCAA Provisional qualifier in three events with C-USA’s fastest time in one: 200-freestyle (1:47.71), 500-free (4:44.60) and 100-backstroke (54.44).  She owns the league’s second-fastest mark in the 100-free (50.00) and 1,000 (10:00.46).

Anna Lynch | Marshall | Jr. | Oakwood, Ohio
Lynch is a two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and was a 2017 and 2016 C-USA Academic Medal recipient.  She has earned a 4.0 GPA while studying international business and competing in all 11 of Marshall’s meets this season. Lynch’s 1650 Free time is the sixth-fastest in C-USA this season and her 200 Free time is ranked ninth in the league. For her career, she is Marshall school record holder in the 1650 Free and a member of the school record 800 Freestyle Relay.

Rebecca Quesnel | FIU | Sr. | Burlington, Ontario, Canada
Quesnel has twice been named to the C-USA Honor Roll (2016 and 2017).  She maintains a 3.73 GP while majoring in Criminal Justice.  Quesnel is a two-time Diver of the Week this season and has posted three first-place finishes, including Miami and Illinois.  She was a First-Team All-American, a Bronze Medalist in Platform at NCAA Championships, and the C-USA Diver of the Year in 2017.

Meaghan Rousset | North Texas | Jr. | Round Rock, Texas
Rousset, a two-time C-USA Academic Medalist and a four-time C-USA Academic Honor Roll member, has produced a 4.00 GPA with a major in biology. The junior swam a season-best time of 1:06.47 to take sixth in the B final of the 100 breast at the Kansas Classic.  Rousset also swam a season-best time of 2:25.78 to take fourth in the B final of the 200 breast and a season-best 2:12.42 to take sixth in the D final of the 200 IM at the Kansas Classic.  She also swam a personal-best time in the 100 free against SMU (55.49) to take eighth.
 
Marie-Claire Schillinger | Rice | Jr. | Orinda, Caifornia
Schillinger, a two-time C-USA Academic Medalist and three-time C-USA Academic Honor Roll recipient, has earned a 3.77 GPA with a major in and kinesiology and a minor in psychology. The junior was named the C-USA Swimmer of the Week on November 22.  Schillinger is an NCAA Provisional qualifier with C-USA’s fastest time in both the 100-breaststroke (1:00.06) and 200-breaststroke (2:10.84) and won both of those C-USA individual events last season. She is a member of Rice University’s President’s Honor Roll as well as a CSCAA Academic All-America honoree. Schillinger has also served as a Rice student-athlete Peer Academic Advisor for the last two seasons.
