The 50th-ranked Tribe lost the doubles point, but Lauren Goodman and freshman Natalia Perry and Rosie Cheng won in straight sets to give W&M a 3-2 lead. Marie Faure rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 win on line 2 for the clincher, putting the Tribe in the NCAA tournament for the 18th time in the last 22 seasons.

In a reverse of the women’s final, top-seeded UNC Wilmington overcame third-seeded William and Mary 4-2 in Greensboro to grab the CAA championship and an NCAA berth. …

Top-seeded Rice won the last four matches off the court to overcome No. 2 seed Old Dominion 4-3 for the Conference USA championship in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

ODU, ranked 49th, is unlikely to gain an at-large NCAA tournament berth, but Adam Moundir has an excellent chance to make the NCAA singles tourney. Moundir, ranked 44th, won his singles match on line 1 after helping ODU gain the doubles point.

Football recruiting:

A flurry of Virginia commitments continued Sunday as offensive lineman Will Harding from Memphis, Tenn., revealed his choice of UVa on Twitter, according to the Roanoke Times.

Lawrence, from Harding Academy, is the seventh player to commit to the Cavaliers for 2018.

U.Va. kept looking toward talent-rich Texas and Florida in earlier taking its fifth and sixth commitments for the 2018 class.

Also committing Sunday was 6-4, 300-pound offensive lineman Joe Bissinger from Memorial High in Houston. He’s a two-time all-district selection.

Earlier in the weekend, linebacker Case Gatlin (6-4, 205) from Boehme, Texas, revealed on Twitter that U.Va. is his choice. Gatlin will play for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., this coming season.

Rivals.com has Gatlin with an offer from Fordham and lists Bissinger with offers from Kansas State and Texas State.

Baseball:

Old Dominion beat No. 16 Southern Mississippi for the second day in a row, posting a 9-2 triumph to take two wins in the three-game series in Hattiesburg. Kyle Battle was 4 for 6 with three runs, and Zach Rutherford was 3 for 4 with three RBI.

ODU (28-12, 12-6 Conference USA) enhanced its credentials for an at-large NCAA berth if it doesn’t win the C-USA tournament. The Monarchs had 18 hits in posting their first road series win over a top-25 opponent in 17 years. USM fell to 30-12, 13-5. …

W&M completed a three-game sweep of James Madison with a 7-6 victory at soggy Plumeri Park. Freshman Patrick Ryan’s RBI single in the ninth inning gave the Tribe (22-20, 7-5 CAA) its second consecutive walk-off victory against the Dukes (18-21, 3-12).

Cullen Large batted 5 for 5 for the Tribe, while Ryder Miconi, Owen Socher and Ryan had two hits apiece.
