916-808-0957Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a little bit okay, totally obsessed with Pinterest. I’m constantly on the look out for creative pinners and beautiful boards to follow. Pinterest recently commissioned astudy and found that 40 million people use Pinterest in order to plan their wedding. It’s easy to see why.
Planning a wedding is all about defining an aesthetic. Do you want a rustic wedding or a vintage style wedding? What should your bridesmaids’ wear? How should your hair and makeup look on the day? Question, questions, questions!
This is where Pinterest swoops in to save the day. Pinterest is essentially a digital scrapbook. Gone are the days of lugging around wedding magazines, tearing pictures out and sticking them into your purse (yes, we’ve all done this at some point).
Here 5 things to know about Pinterest if you’re planning your wedding:
1. Start using Pinterest!
You can download the application for free on your phone or I-pad. Follow these steps on how to add the pin it button to your web browser, which will allow you to pin beautiful ideas you find on various websites. It’s really simple once you get the hang of it. Pinterest ensures that each picture pinned is linked back to the original site where you found the inspiration.
2. Categorize your pins
Especially when you’re getting started there is a temptation to pin everything to your ‘Wedding Board’. Try to avoid this. It’s much easier to start categorizing your pins from the beginning. I suggest creating the following boards: Stationery, Bridesmaids, Wedding Dress, Flowers, Table Décor, Hair & Make-Up and Bridal Shower Ideas. Check out some of our Boards for ideas.
3. Secret Boards
Pinterest introduced the ability to create secret boards. This works so well when planning a wedding. You can create secret boards that can’t be viewed by your followers until you decide to share them. You can also share secret boards with your bridesmaids, wedding planner or florist without those boards been publicly accessible. (Incredible!)
4. Pinning on the go
Wedding planning is time consuming. Use your time effectively by pinning on the go. Pin wedding inspiration to your boards from your phone while standing in line at Starbucks, or waiting to catch your flight at the airport. Talk about multi-tasking!
5. Don’t forget to follow
Make sure you’re following individuals, magazines and service providers that inspire you. While there is a seemingly endless supply of Pins to pin and Pinners to follow on Pinterest (say that 10 times quickly!), it’s also a good idea to keep an eye on what the wedding industry leaders are pinning to their boards to gain inspiration from their collection of creative and beautiful ideas. Wedding magazines and blogs including Brides, The Knot, 100 Layer Cake, and Style Me Pretty all have a big presence on Pinterest.
