New London — The Eagle is expected to arrive home in the city Thursday morning.

The Coast Guard barque will be moored at City Pier for three days and will be open for free public tours from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

The Eagle, which is a training vessel for U.S. Coast Guard Academy cadets, is the only active square-rigger in U.S. government service, according to a Coast Guard news release. Originally a German navy ship, it was given to the United States as a reparation after World War II. New London is the Eagle's home port.
