Focus your creative talents and explore the Italian way of life with a summer in Florence

How about a summer giving expression to your fashion design and artistic talents in one of the world’s treasured locations for art? Or maybe you want to spend your summer learning about Italian life and culture? No matter what you choose to do, this summer program with the world-renowned Accademia Italiana offers you a remarkable opportunity to study a variety of design courses taught by experts in the field, such as fashion, interior design, graphic design and other subjects as well as Italian language from beginner to advanced.

Florence is a hub for artistic and commercial design, as well as home to multiple sites of cultural significance in Italy. Works of art and architecture are everywhere, reflecting the stunning talent of legendary masters and a thriving artistic community. Enjoy the magic and splendor that only Florence can bring with its wealth of masterpieces in art, architecture and landscapes.

You’ll study alongside both Italian and international students, all eager to explore this artistic learning experience. You’ll also enjoy a choice of excursions to help you get to know the Tuscany region better.

You’ll choose from two academic pathway options based at Accademia Italiana (formerly separate programs):

  • Intensive Design (6 credits) – Learn what it takes to create a stylistically consistent collection and how to develop your creativity in the production and design of clothing in Fashion Design, or explore an introduction to the theoretical and practical aspects of Italian Industrial and Product design.
  • Italian Language and Culture (3-6 credits) – Dive into courses across disciplines in the Liberal Arts, Studio Arts & Design, or Fashion Design and embrace the language and culture that surround you.

You'll also participate in the Arcadia Italy Weekend: A tailored weekend trip for all Arcadia students coming to Italy to enhance a sense of belonging to the Arcadia community. Students will explore hidden areas of Italy (among the Abruzzo, Marche or Romagna's countryside) that are off the beaten tracks and authentic.

The weekend will provide walking tours, cultural activities and food experiences to immerse students in the Italian culture. It will also be an opportunity to create connections among students in different areas of Italy and encourage exchange visits in reciprocal cities.
