LONDON, UK – October 2019 – Traditional paintings by Van Gogh, Botticelli and Da Vinci have all been remixed for the digital generation by artist Hey Reilly. Reilly, who is also a fashion designer and illustrator, used the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ to create the digital-only Mobile Masterpieces collection, which reimagines iconic European masterpieces, such as Vermeer’s ‘Girl with The Pearl Earring’ for a 21st Century audience.

For the first time, Hey Reilly has used a smartphone to produce and share his cult images. Using his social media channels as a gallery, Hey Reilly aims to bring these masterpieces to a wider audience and inspire his fans to re-think both the art and creative tools available in their hands.

Social media is driving a new way for art to be created, shared and consumed. With over 334 million uses of art in 2019 alone[1], Instagram continues to be the art world’s favourite social media channel – 80% of global art buyers discover new artists through this platform and 75% use it to find art they’d like to purchase[2].

Hey Reilly put his device to the test using its S Pen, multi-lens camera, AR Doodle, professional grade video editing software, fast-charging battery capabilities, and up to 1TB of storage. It was used from beginning to end to source, shoot, edit and share his artwork.

Mobile Masterpieces include: ‘Selfie Portrait’, ‘Lady with a Pug Frog’, ‘Enigmatic Smile’, ‘Girl with a Red Nose’, and ‘Venus Di Smilo’. All are now available to download from Samsung’s online artistic community, Galaxy PENUP.

Selfie Portrait

Using S Pen’s unparalleled precision and Air Actions, Hey Reilly lasso cuts himself both into and out of a selfie with this iconic post-impressionist painter. AR Doodle meant AR could be directly sketched onto the piece, transforming it into a motion image.

Lady with a Pug Frog

In Leonardo da Vinci’s 500th anniversary year, Hey Reilly transforms the ermine into a dog breed renowned for being the ultimate companion. Hey Reilly has brought the lady hung in Krakow National Gallery to life with Motion Portrait.

Enigmatic Smile

The world’s most photographed artwork gets a 21st century smile makeover thanks to the S Pen’s cut and edit capabilities.

Girl with a Red Nose

This girl’s famous curious, mysterious expression is brought to life through multi-media for the digital generation, perfected by the Note10+’s Video Editor.

Venus Di Smilo

Hey Reilly magnifies this goddess of love and beauty with a tongue-in-cheek modern re-birth using the S Pen and Lasso tool to cut and collage.

Hey Reilly said: “My Instagram channel is like a gallery, a positive space where I share my work as an artist, fashion and graphic designer. This means I constantly need to adapt and evolve: in my work, my process, and inspiration to continue creating thumb-stopping content.

Note10+ has liberated me from a monitor and mouse, propelling my entire process to a new level. Humour within my art is crucial and if this series makes someone stop and smile for even a few seconds, I will be a happy man.”

“The Galaxy Note is loved by its users because it combines power and productivity with unique features designed to unlock creativity and innovation.” Said Rebecca Hirst, Director of Mobile Marketing, Samsung UK & Ireland. “This partnership stretches the capabilities of our new device, the Note10+, allowing its users to create and share anyplace, anytime’’.
