Scotland enjoying sunshine spell – but snow will return this week ahead of Easter chaos

By Wednesday there could be significant snowfall as temperatures slightly below average continue to grip the country

SCOTLAND is enjoying dry weather with sunshine today - but snow is set to return tomorrow ahead of the traditional Easter travel chaos.

The snow is making the comeback with the forecast a dreary one, signalling a wet, windy and snowy few days.

People hoping to get away for the Bank Holiday could get caught out if bad weather descends once again.

The majority of the snow is set to fall in the Scottish highlands.

Gales, severe at times, of up to 50mph will sweep through the country today and tomorrow, as the wind remains for the next few days.

The south will see a mild day with bright spells, but northern parts of the country will still feel fairly wintry - despite yesterday's official switch into Spring.

Tonight outbreaks of rain will spread eastwards and turn to snow over the Scottish mountains.

By Wednesday there could be significant snowfall over northern hills as temperatures slightly below average continue to grip the country.

A Met Office forecaster said: "On Wednesday we've got again a slight risk that we might see some hill snow.

"There's a lot of rain on Wednesday there's a risk that that might fall as snow."


Scotland to ‘bear brunt’ of Easter cold snap as temperatures plummet to -10C with TEN inches of snow


Laura Paterson, Chief Operational Meteorologist, previously said: “The evolution of this system during the middle of next week is uncertain, but it does appear increasingly likely to herald the start of another colder spell for many parts of the UK.

"Despite uncertainty regarding the timing and onset of this change, the signal that colder conditions will develop and last into the Easter weekend has remained consistent.”

The Easter weekend is expected to see unsettled weather - but a return of the dreaded Beast from the East is not currently anticipated by the Met Office.
