Lightness Falling

Rate this book
In gaining the crown, Kennedy lost friends, her first love, and her heart. And now her throne is being threatened. In this time of turmoil, radical groups surface trying to kill her and take down the kingdom. Kennedy is forced to go undercover and penetrate one of these groups with the help of the one person she has sworn against ever seeing again. Lorcan Dragen. The one man she let in, but cannot have. What she has to do to save her falling reign is dangerous, foolish, and impossible. That doesn’t even come close to the truth she discovers along the way. Kennedy’s world is flipped upside down with heartbreaking discoveries, betrayal, secrets, lies…and a darkness Kennedy won’t be able to fight. Herself. When lightness falls, darkness rises. Which side will win? Find out in the conclusion of Kennedy’s story. *HIGHLY recommend to read Darkness & Collector Series prior. Lightness Saga contains story-lines, world building, and spoilers from previous books and characters. It's highly recommended starting with Darkness of Light.

"The thought of them harming you...It also scares me that part of me is capable of such violence and rage. I would have leveled this country. I would have killed and hurt anything in my path."
"That is what I feel on a daily basis for my family. For you?" he growled "I would flatten the world."

This is a one POV book, told by the POV of Kennedy.

I already loved Kennedy a lot before, but the character development she did here and how she is growing into her role is really nice to see. She is always trying to do what is right, which often causes her inner conflict. Those scenes were really interesting to read. On the other hand, it really makes the romance part of the book a bit repetitive. It is constant pushing and pulling between her and Lorcan, that always ends in a "oh no we shouldn´t" and they land back at Level 1 and start it all over again. Lorcan felt like his brooding self from book one who tries to intimidate and scare everybody and often succeeds at it.

You guys, West made an appearance (insert Sing Hallelulja here), so therefore alone this book deserves an extra 0,5 star. I loved the newly introduced characters, especially Fionna. Love to see a morally grey badass female character. I think I would have loved to see a bit more of Ember and Eli. They were both barely mentioned in this book.

The pacing of the book was good, it didn´t feel too fast or too slow. Definitely a lot of action scenes which I loved. The plot itself was good and I loved the plot twists, most of which I didn´t guess in advance. My only complaints would be the repetetive romance aspect with the constant back and forth which got a bit tiring after a while. One of the side characters also had a repetitive storyline that was almost an exact repeat to his storyline in the Darkness series.

Overall it was a fun and quick read and with that I can´t wait to dive into the next book in the series.

11/30/2020: Reread!

This review MAY contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

This book, this book, this book!! OMG! I thought that The Crown of Light was incredible, but this book was an overload of awesome! I am truly glad that I stumbled upon this fascinating world that Stacey Marie Brown has created. I want to live here. It's official, I want my own cabin on the Dark Dweller property so I can loiter here forever amongst these characters that have taken my heart.

The romance in this book is very emotional. Kennedy and Lorcan are struggling with their separation from the last book and it is really affecting each of them. They try to fight against their need and love for one another thinking that it is best for all involved, but love isn't so easily brushed aside. They both struggle with their feelings, but deep down their love and devotion shines through. I loved their journey and I am glad that they found their happy ending.

Kennedy and Lorcan's characters really grow even more in this book. A lot of it is from the romance, but not all of it. Kennedy has learned to be the Queen that she needs to be. Lorcan is learning to open back up to Kennedy since closing himself off again after they separated in the last book. Their love for each other brings out the best in them. I loved seeing West in this book. And I loved seeing more of Fionna. The additional new characters from the Druid base were amusing, though I wished I could have gotten to know them more.

The plot in this book comes at the heels of the conclusion of the Darkness series. All of the events in the Darkness series impact this one and this book builds upon those plot points. It really does get thicker in this one. I loved the plot twists in this one, though I was able to guess them ahead of time because of the foreshadowing in the previous books. I think that Brown does an excellent job of weaving the plot through all of the books in the Darkness series, Collector series, and the Lightness Saga. Everything flows beautifully.

There is some more great world-building in this book while still building from the previous books. There are plenty of visual details and descriptions to make you feel like you are living in the scenes.

Overall, I was blown away by this book! Before I read The Crown of Light I was unsure if I could latch on to Kennedy's story. Brown really made her character come alive in The Crown of Light and she kept on shining in this book. The same goes for Lorcan. I think that he is among one of my favorite characters in this world. This book will latch on to you and refuse to let loose. I recommend this series along with the Darkness series and the Collector series. This entire world is awesome and you will want to settle down here and make it your home.

I really enjoy Stacey Marie Brown's books. To me, they've got a good amount of it all. Magic, adventure, fantasy, mystery, humor, great characters and sex. What more is needed? The world she has woven, that was started in the Darkness series, through the Collectors series and into the Lightness series is fun and interesting. Some old friends come back and teasers of other stories still untold. I'm looking forward to see where this will go. May the journey continue!

Mid to upper 4s. I was so disappointed at the end of Crown of Light when Kennedy pushed Lorcan away.

Plot:
At the end of Crown of Light, Kennedy took over the role of queen. After a couple of assassination attempts, Lars decides to appoint Kennedy a bodyguard, who turns out to be none other than Lorcan Dragen. Together, Kennedy and Lorcan must overcome their differences and work together to decipher her visions and determine who’s really behind the threats to her reign.

Characters:
I just love Kennedy! She is caring and selfness, but at the same time, she’s strong and confident, and she accomplishes all those things without constantly making sarcastic remarks.

My favorite stereotype is the misunderstood loner, and that’s one of the reasons I’ve loved Lorcan since the first Darkness book. While he’s cocky and never misses the opportunity to make a smart-ass remark, he is also very sweet, supportive, and sexy … the perfect combination.

There are lots of crossover characters as well. We don’t see much of Ember or Eli, but Lars is around, and I always find him entertaining. Torin, Ryan, Zoey, West, and Fionna also appear.

Writing:
Stacey Marie Brown really does have a gift with worldbuilding and character development and especially for creating tension. The editing was spot on (very few typos), so readers can focus solely on the plot. Lightness Falling is definitely rated R. There’s lots of language and action and violence. There are also several sexual situations, although I still think the Darkness books went into a lot more detail.

The Bottom Line:
I didn’t want to put Lightness Falling down! I really liked Ember and Eli’s story, but I love Kennedy and Lorcan’s even more. I can’t wait for Lars’ story, which is set up in the epilogue. However, I have to say, I’d really like to see Torin get the girl for a change. Bless his heart!

This is book 2 in the series and you must read the book 1 first.

Stacey has done it again and proved why she is now one of my favourite 1-click authors. Her writing is simply phenomenal, keeping her readers hooked from beginning to end, on the edge of your seat.

I simply love Kennedy and Lorcan (and I never thought I would love him), he is the ultimate dark, sexy, bad boy (he puts Eli to shame) but Kennedy really compliments him well, she challenges him and is his light.

Kennedy is now the Seelie Queen and I loved watching her strength in the role growing. With betrayals, secrets and lies discovered, can she rely on the one man she has let in but can not have. She needs to protect her falling reign with threats to kill her and take over the kingdom. She needs Lorcan's help to do this.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from the author and The Next Step PR

Kennedy and Lorcan finally get over themselves! But not for a bit. Kennedy is runningn the Kingdom and she gave Torin back his position of First Knight. I kinda knew he would fall for Kennedy, he seems to fall for anyone who has authority over him. Unfortunately for him, Kennedy doesn't feel the same. She does find a sect of Druids and manages to infiltrate. What's interesting is she finds out the leader is her sister. And another thing is that they both have a natural affinity for Dark Magic, which goes against the natural state of Druids. They are creatures of light, normally. There's a twist in this book that I definitely didn't see coming! I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it yet.

Oh my my. What a book. I absolutely enjoyed reading it. That one part when we learn about Kennedys family, I was not expecting that. Then we learn something else about her family. That betrayal I should have expected it. Great book and what an ending!!

Thrilling ride!

I absolutely adore Stacey for the way she can merge so many stories together today will eventually (hopefully not any time soon) to the final conclusion. There were so many twist and turns and you never knew what was coming around the corner. I'm so excited to see where Lars goes in his upcoming storey.

So, I really hated Kennedy in the last book. And honestly? I still don't like her. I just can't help but question her decisions and her actions....which are rarely smart or thought out. As for Lorcan, I really don't have too strong of an opinion either way. I mean, I like him, but I hate how he is so back and forth about everything. It was annoying. Then you have these two as a couple. Obviously I am a minority here because I hate these two together. Their relationship makes zero sense to me and is completely unbelievable. They have nothing in common and spend all their time fighting or lusting for each other. It made me want to bash their heads in.

As we know, Kennedy's reign is on shaky ground. After an attack that almost killed her and Lars, it was decided that she would go undercover and try to infiltrate this group. Because what better place for the queen to be when obviously someone is trying to kill her? As if the way she went about it wasn't eye roll inducing enough, afterwards she continues to act as if she has this whole new badass persona inside her. She doesn't. And it was stupid. This whole time she uses Lorcan as sort of a bodyguard while trying to play it off as if he is under her control thru her magic. She somehow actually manages to make it into this group. It's because of them though that we learn of her "dark power" and why she sometimes delights in doing bad things. Soon enough though, she fails a test given by this group and now finds herself and Lorcan captured by them. The twist ending was pretty cliche, but the fight at the end was pretty good. When Lars shows up at the end it would have been so much better if I didn't know what was coming next with his book. I love that unseelie king and I am not happy with who he ends up with.

My, my, my, what a sizzling, and mostly infuriating, conclusion to this lover’s quarrel. Lorcan is the loml!

The book starts off with Kennedy a year plus after the war. She’s Seelie Queen but most times feels like a fraud, especially since she has rebels plotting her demise and followers who find her ruling unfit. After an attack, she goes under cover to save her rule and flush out foes. There’s just one problem, she needs a guard, someone able and willing to die for the crown. The one she gets is ready for the task, but he’s anything but happy with her since their fallout.

Kennedy didn’t think her past would come to haunt her, but it did, and she’s wasn’t too upset about it. I’m glad she acknowledged how awful she treated Lorcan during the war. Her separation from Lorcan was a huge struggle for her and it was evident she missed him. Unfortunately, she still felt like she could never have a life with Lorcan because of her friends and kingdom and how different they both are. Those sentiments didn’t last long when constantly in his presence on the run (much like how they fell in love). They had their angry moments and tried to keep things platonic. Well, Lorcan did, Kennedy was struggling with that part. She was still so googly eyed with him and initiated almost all of their heated moments. She was indecisive in her head, but decisive in every action. She found that her happiness is important and she’s only happiest with him in her life. I loveeeeee when girls get protective of their guys and go off! Kennedy was off her hinges when it came to Lorcan’s safety and I ate it up! There were cute moments that only solidified that these two are made for each other. They are each other’s calm, protector, best friend, and so much more.

Lorcan, again, never fails to make me sigh in contention and happiness. He was so epic in this book. Still his flirty, playful, asshole self, but also caring and sweet when needed. I was so happy he kept Kennedy at arms length for awhile. She can’t have both worlds and then crush his when it’s convenient for her. Although he loves her, he knows his worth and wasn’t going to go through what happened before again. She had to either want him enough to be with him or cut off the possibility of anything between them for good. I love that he never pushed her or tried to sway her choices. He wanted her to choose him. When they finally got together (ie. Kennedy knew she was about to lose something good and stopped being a dummy), they sizzled on the page. This man will always bring nothing but hotness. I’ll always want more.

I think the author has something against Torin because how does this happen a second time? Poor guy.

The reveals were easy to spot but I am excited for the fallout of them. Lars and Fionna are nothing but TENSION! I’m excited for that storyline.

It’s looking like the end of this story is bringing everyone together. I can’t wait for what happens next! That damn stone will not leave people alone…...

P.s. Zoey! Was so happy to see her back on page. I miss her and Ryker, and Sprig, and Croygen. Ahhhh, my heart!

Finally!

My heart was obliterated when Ken sent Lorcan away in the last book. Now although it took awhile and factor in Torin, poor guy, i was over the moon when Ken and Lorcan finally got back together and boy was it HOT! They couldn't be more different add in all the obstacles that stand in their way and it seeemed like they were doomed. But because of those differences they are perfect for each other and they know exactly what the other needs. They are each others safety and together they can overcome anything, because being apart is not an option. Their love is too strong. In this book after numerous attempts on her life, Ken goes into hiding and then undercover when she learns druids are attacking fae. I cant wait for Lars story, that is definitely going to be interesting to say the least and I hope Torin gets his own story as well because that poor guy has been through so much crap and heartbreak.

Okay so Torin has to be a character that takes after an ex of SMB because crap squared give that man a break or put him out of his misery. Hahaha the same thing that ember did to him?! My goodness how much can that poor fae take?! That’s my only problem with this book 🤣

I definitely have preferred the secret community/rebel and lab/prison story lines of this world more than the others. Like Savage Lands and the Collectors series are by far my favorites. So I’m glad there was a smidge of that in this one as well.

Some of this was super confusing which I’m assuming will be answered in “end game” aka book 4. I’m so glad I waited to read these for completed series because I’d be pulling out my hair waiting.
Also the timeline is off. Being that in the epilogue of collectors series, two years post war Zoey is only a few months pregnant but in this book only 14 or 16 months post war, she’s almost due ? Doesn’t make sense.
And I swear on everything I will never read another SMB [one of my my favorite authors] book again if she kills Ryker. He is my favorite ever and I will perish with him.

Also another bone to pick is now realizing we don’t even get a Warwick glimpse in the war part of this series and in darkness. Not even a notable mention. Bummer. And where’s the spicy throne scene?? Disappointed there lol

All in all this has been my favorite world in a long time. I love a long series where everything molds together in the end. I did read savage lands first and awhile ago so I might have to give
It a re-read after I’m done with this series. Just to see all the flash backs again

I still loved it

SPOILER ALERT ***This hurts to write this review. Ive read all of the books! And all the different story lines. Compared to the first book it lost some of its pssazzz and I dont mean the sex. It felt rushed, especially at the end of the fighting scene and we find out Thara is the mole, which was obvious I wasnt shocked at all, Torin finds out about Lorcan and Kennedy, and Lars has this secret. It was too easy and comvenient to reveal all of this at once. And why is Fionna being so covert about Lars to Kennedy? What does she have to gain from that? Why not tell her before Lars got there so we could see her being more confident when she tosses Lars. I like Lorcan but didnt connect with that character as much as Eli. And the scene where they finally confess their love, read awkward and again rushed. And Luuk. I barely got to see him and his threat before hes killed. The Unseelie Queen had much more play time. The next novel is continuing with Lars and the objects, thats how this book should of continued, because honestly Luuk wasnt much of a threat because he was barely there. There were alot of parallels to our world with racism and genocide and I felt Kennedy represented Obama because she didnt "deserve" the title because she wasnt fae and he wasnt white, but if the author didnt point out the parallels so blantly, it would have been stronger. Apply the iceberg effect. Give us some meat but let the audience figure out the rest. It was still good finished it one day, but there was something missing and it felt rushed. Still a fun read.

I wrote this really cool review for Amazon, and have no idea where it went...so I'll try to write it again.

Kennedy! One of my favorite characters is back a year later as the Seelie Queen. With her life a lot different than before, she's back to face her demons, visions and the loss of the man who showed her what love felt like. Haunted by her past, she is tasked by the Unseelie King to go on journey to find one of the Treasures of the Tuatha De Dannan with an unlikely partner..... Not only is Kennedy the Queen, she shows more strength and power this time around, both mentally and physically. Although on the emotional side...well, that comes to good use too.

Lars returns to aide Kennedy, more so, he has to because, well LARS...you can't say no to the King. In the midst of their obstacles, their history and their longing, they struggle to find some type of balance. More so Lorcan wants to keep his distance, for his own reasons....Ahh, but we know how Stacey writes. She will snatch you by the...and then make you cry UNCLE and then she may give you a reprieve to enjoy a bit of an HEA...Well if you can call it that lol.

By the way, Stacey's writing is so fabulous, that there are times, in my head, I imagine being in the world she created. Probably makes me weird, but who cares. I'm happy.

I never thought Lorcan would be my 2nd favorite DD, but when you get to the last scene in the book, you'll see why he has ranked a tad higher on the list . AND, there is a major AHA moment too. So you've been warned.

Happy Reading!

"Holy fractions, shit squared"!!!!!

Never in my life have I wanted to curse and throttle an author so much as I have Stacey while reading this book. Seriously! I have gone through so many emotions I don't think my heart can take much more.

I am never left disappointed when reading Any of Stacey's phenomenal books. She takes us on a twisted, magical journey that takes over every single one of your senses. You feel the fear, the pain, the crunch of broken bodies. You smell the burning and taste the tang of blood on your tongue.

Ken and Lorcan have fast become two of my favourite characters. Their fierceness and rawness commands everyone around them and in this book we see that fierceness at full throttle.

Stacey doesn't hold anything back in this book and she leaves us reeling and begging for our nerves to be calmed. But that's not going to happen.

Something huge is coming, I can feel it and like Ken, I'm scared. I'm scared for all the characters we have come to love in these books and I'm scared of what the outcome will be. I know Stacey is going to put us through the ringer with these next books. I just hope my heart and sanity can handle it.

Stacey, you have once again taken any expectations I could've ever had and blown them out of this world. Your writing is a masterpiece and I'm just in awe of your talent.

I can't wait for 'The Fall Of The King' and the emotional lashing it will sure to bring.

A very, very well deserved 5* from me.

Wow,this took me a while to finish, because I was so upset at Kennedy, the way she treated Lorcan how she pushed him away, the hurtful words she said to him (Crown of Light), was totally uncalled for. Then poor Torin falling for Kennedy and although she doesn't lead him on, she doesn't really push him away either. Because of these things I put this book down many times, wanting to slap her.
Finally I picked it up determined to finish it. Glad I did, I got to see Lorcan again on his mission to hide and protect Kennedy, as her life had been threatened so many times.
Their wild ride was uplifting, because they got to be close again and rediscover each other while hiding out. When they finally meet with Lars, they're attacked, and in the remains she finds evidence of who is really behind them, druids. Thus she decides to go undercover. I don't want to say spoilers, only that it was a great read, except for her stupidity of NO, I can't be with him, this is wrong, I can't hurt my friends like this.. ugh! I wanted to punch her to next week.
** spoiler in next sentence**
But this is a great ride, she finds her sister is the leader of the druids.
Totally recommend this book. I usually like to put in quotes from the book but as I don't have the physical book (I heard the audio book) I couldn't.

I don't know how Stacey Marie Brown's brain continues to come up with intense, enthralling and unique plotlines, but Book 2 in Kennedy's story is as exciting as all of her other novels. This one centers around Kennedy's new life as Queen of Light, but her role and her tendency towards healing and helping is tested when the darkness of the hatred and violence between humans, fae and druids alike after the wall between magic and non-magic has fallen...and her own darkness. There's quite a bit of overlap between this series and the Darkness (West included) and Collectors series, so be sure to read those first (also because they're GREAT), and then buckle up for another international adventure with physical and mental turmoil that builds tension between species as well as characters--some romantic--leading to an epic climax and quite the lead in to the next book in this saga. My only qualm is the slightly forced-feeling love triangle (I strongly dislike love triangles) but it becomes a very minor, almost forgotten part of the tale quite quickly. I am always enraptured by SMB's creative writing prose and her dynamic characters, but the anxiety, twists and fast pace are what prevent me from putting the book down!

The further I get into these books and this series I see how connected they are all to each other. Loose ends are being tied up and it's so fulfilling to see it happening. Some authors leave you hanging and even though it probably seemed that way to begin with, it is all coming together now.

Kennedy is Queen now. She's had to give up parts of herself for her friends and for her people. Most especially the one she loves.

Lorcan walked away from Kennedy, just as she asked but of course outside forces pulled them back together. Lorcan is most resistant to falling back into a relationship but he will always protect Kennedy.

Going undercover to find out who is adding their presence into the rebellion means Kennedy will be extremely vulnerable and the only one who will truly give up everything for her is Lorcan. Coming close to death so many times finally opens Kennedy's eyes but will it be too late?

She still has a battle ahead of her and she needs those she loves to be around her. Finding out more details about who she is, her family, and her life here on out isn't easy but Kennedy is the best one to conquer this!

Amazing, wonderful, one of her best books so far

I couldn't believe my luck that the next book came out so quickly after I was done reading the first Lightness book. I absolutely LOVED the 2nd. I fell for lorcan a long time ago and I love Kennedy, I love her nerdiness, on occasion dirty mouth and her deep loyalty and light. I never give to much away about the story, just how it made me feel, and boy did I feel hot n bothered. I also loved all the action, the display of emotions, all the different characters, and great fight scenes. I can't think of any reason why a fan of this series would not love this one. I was disappointed that this is the last one in the series because I loved it so much and thought maybe Ken was gonna be around Lars more, keeping tabs and having more adventures, but I can see I will not be disappointed . I've been wanting to get understand Lars head for awhile and now it seems like we are getting that chance. Can't wait , thanks for the wonderful ride Stacey

I would have given this book a 4 star rating because the story was good but because of the steryotypical way the H acts during the separation in contrast to the stereotypical way the h acts during the separation I can only give this book a 2. The reasoning for the way they acted also didn't make sense to me?? I am really getting tiered of gendered double standards. Not only that but another thing that I find really annoying about the fantasy/paranormal genre which happens in this book is that Lorcan is supposedly thousands of years old, yet he's the one who acts like a 5 years old throwing a temper tantrum, while Kennedy who is literally 20 years old is the normal one. Because of this I fell like it really took away from there story. I fell like he didn't fight for her and I liked Lorcan so much more in book 1.

So many emotions while reading this book - watching the constant struggle between Kennedy and Lorcan is just a crazy roller coaster. You can tell they clearly meant to be but must fight their own personal fears before they can finally decide to put their happiness first. This book had me on the edge of my seat watching Kennedy grow even more than the last one. you see her struggling with her new title and how many don't think that she belongs on the Throne or that she is becoming a pawn of the King..... to her dealing with her feelings about Lorcan..... and trying to expand her powers....ALL while trying to keep a crumbling kingdom together. New Allies are made in this book that i am very excited to see pursued in the future books. The book kept you guessing trying to figure out who is hiding what and who is really on their side.

Stacey Brown keeps improving as an author, the Darkness series was complete trash but the Collector series was actually pretty good. This series is okay, though it's not very exciting. I am compelled to see it through, though. It's not bad. There are so many little inconsistencies though, it drives me nuts! For example, Lars and others state that he has been king for centuries. Obviously that's not true because there was the whole big thing about how he killed Ember's father(his brother) to become king, therefore he can't have been king longer than Ember has been alive, no more than 20-something years! Right?! Cause dead dudes can't have kids.. and it was made clear that Ember's father was king up until Lars killed him. Drives me nuts! There are a ton of little things like that in this book. Get a continuity editor! Haha

It’s all about balance

Well the ending of that epilogue was truly terrifying. This book was full of tension, anger and lust, similar to all of the previous books, but it was definitely fun watching Kennedy discover more of herself. Being the epitome of good girl, falling for the dark dweller was already a contrast. Now, Kennedy is discovering her own darkness and must find balance. It’s frustrating that she hasn’t learned to control her visions yet and lets them slip away before she can do anything to prevent them. It seems like she just accepts it that way and isn’t doing much to try to fix it. I hope she does more training in the next one and uses her gifts better. How fitting that her birth name meant light. She and Ember really are Light and Fire.

I’m nearly at the end of the darkness-collector-lightness journey and honestly I was a bit disappointed after the first book from the lightness series. I was not disappointed of the story itself but because it was truly a repetition of the last book from the darkness series only told by Kennedy pov.

Kennedy as a character unfortunately I found it a bit boring but some I was expecting it nonetheless the overall quest made sense for the story to exit.

It was our introduction to Fionna a key player throughout the final step of the quest .

That said I absolutely loved the way this book ended and truthfully I’m already halfway through book 3 and I absolutely love it 😏 🤫

Beautiful story and Lorcan and Kennedy are a beautiful couple together.

Thank you for the beautiful journey ❤️

Amazing as always. Kennedy had so much growth and angst in this one, I couldn't help but emphasize with her. I also couldn't put the book down. I really liked Ken from the beginning of the darkness saga, but fell in love with her character in The Crown Of Light, which is the first book in this series. I always, always wonder what happens now. Now that the evil baddie is dead, now that the world has been turned up side down. And with this series we get to see that. Loved every page.
