The Smithfield Police Department is warning the public to be on the lookout for bobcats.

Police on Tuesday said that there have been “several” bobcat sightings in Smithfield, as well as the surrounding area.

“Residents should consider this if leaving small pets or children in the yard unattended,” police wrote on social media.

For safety purposes, experts also shared the same sentiments.

In November, at least two bobcat sightings were reported in a Cranston community within a few months.

At the time, authorities said they hadn’t received any reports of interaction the animals interacting with people.
