Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

5 LUCKY Stars!

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better than Tate's book in the Colorado Mountain series... well, I was wrong! Ty and Lexie's book was just as good, maybe even better! I absolutely LOVED it!

Ty and Lexie did things backwards... within 48 hours of meeting each other, they were married. Ty just got out of a 5 year stent in prison for a crime he did not commit. Lexie is doing a favor for a low life who was friends with her dead boyfriend. They married for appearances only, or at least thats how it starts...

Lexie and Ty together... I loved it! Lexie is one of the best KA heroines. Sweet, fun, hilarious, giving, nurturing, and yes, goofy. Not annoying at in the least! Ty loved her goofiness...
"You're part-goof all class. Never walked in a room, any room, with a woman on my arm, any woman, who's got your looks, your style, the kinda beauty you got and the light that shines from you. So I don't get it. I don't get how a woman leads a life full of shit and comes out of it bein' part-goof and all class. That shit's impossible but there you fuckin' are. Part-goof, all class."
I felt my breath coming fast but managed to whisper, "I'm not part-goof."
"You're right. I was bein' nice. You're a total goof."
"Am not"

Ty is another hot alpha man... Mmm just the description of him, I loved him right off the bat! He could be a jerk at times, but he had it rough. I think anyone would have that attitude if they were locked up for that long for something they didn’t do. The more you get to know the real Ty, the more you will love him. He is really a thoughtful and sweet man.
My Ty.
My Ty.
Christ. Fuck.
Christ.
Two words. Just two words. Walker had no clue until that moment that two words could mean so fucking much. He'd never belonged to anyone. He'd never belonged anywhere. Never thought he wanted to.
Until he heard those two words.

The mama nickname... I just adored it!

Even though Ty and Lexie got together in a totally unconventional way, I loved how they really meshed well, worked together and became a team.
‘This is is, Team Walker, you and me. We want somethin’, we find a way to get it. We hit a rough patch, we find a way to get over it. We face a challenge, we find a way to beat it. It’s good, we savor it. What I’m sayin’ is, this team is a winner. We never forget to celebrate the victories and we get a lotta those because we never admit defeat.’

I can’t think of much I didn’t love in this story... there was the perfect amount of humor, romance, drama, conflict and sexiness. Overall, it was a fantastic read! Can’t wait to get to Breathe!

My favorite line <3
"Your nightmare, mama, was my dream."
My heart clenched.
He kept going. "Never had a home until you gave me one."
My breath started sticking.
"Never had anyone give to me the way you gave to me."
My breath stopped sticking and clogged.
"Never thought of findin' a woman who I wanted to have my baby."
Oh God.
"Never had light in my life, never, not once, I lived wild but I didn't burn bright until you shined your light on me."

This is a MUST READ for me!!!

Some Spoilers

“You’re part-goof all class. Never walked in a room, any room, with a woman on my arm, any woman, who’s got your looks, your style, the kinda beauty you got and the light that shines from you. So I don’t get it. I don’t get how a woman leads a life full of shit and comes out of it bein’ part-goof and all class. That shit’s impossible but there you fuckin’ are. Part-goof, all class.”-Ty

Lady Luck was so good. I think it is tied with Max's book for my favorite of the series so far. It was intense and exciting. There was more then just the Ty and Lexie love story. There was a very exciting dirty cops side story that also really held my interest. Ty and Lexie's love story was so good I kept finding myself reading ahead to get a peek at what was to come.

“Don’t!” she snapped. “Don’t you fucking come home and think you can give me a different Ty. Do not think you can fucking play me like that. I don’t know what the fuck you’re dealing with and I don’t care. I asked, you wouldn’t tell me. I tried everything I knew to get you to let me in there,” she jabbed her finger at his chest, “and you didn’t let me in and now, Ty, I don’t fucking care. You can ride the wave of whatever’s controlling you but don’t drag me along on that trip.” She swung her arm out to the side. “Out there, I’ll be what you’re paying me to be.” Then she pointed to the floor. “In here, it would be good if we could be civil to each other and you don’t give me any of that pussy bullshit of yours. And that’s all for in here, Ty. Tonight, I sleep on the couch and I keep doing it until my bed gets here and then I’ll move to it. You wanted to talk, there it is. I’m laying it out. You don’t like that, you get your bling back and I walk. Think about it and enjoy the spaghetti, I’m going for a drive.”-Lex

 photo BeFunky Collagejashd_zpslmdrhdak.jpg

“Let me go.” He moved his lips to her ear and whispered, “I hurt you, baby.” Her body went still in his arms and she whispered back, “Don’t.” “I was a dick; I fucked up and hurt you.” “Stop it.” He tightened his arms and pressed his temple into her hair. It was soft as well as thick and smelled fucking great. He wanted his hands in it. He wanted to feel it on his skin. He wanted to feel it all around as her mouth worked his cock. “I’m sorry I hurt you, Lexie,” he murmured into her hair. “Please stop it.”-Lex and Ty

Ty was a hard man. He was just getting out of prison after losing 5 years of his life for a crime he didn't commit. Dirty cops in his town set him up with the help of his ex to take the fall for another dirty cop. All because he was half black and they didn't like color. To say he was bitter and mad as hell was a understatement. He formed a plan to get married to a woman that is clean to be his alibi so he can get his revenge and she'd have his back covered. So right before he was released he called in a favor from a POS drug dealer and pimp that owes him one. That favor, send him a woman that isn't a druggie or whore that he can marry for an alibi. So when he stepped out of the prison he was greeted by Lexie. Lexie was beautiful, goofy, and her soul shined bright. He wanted her but soon learned that she thought she was just suppose to pick him up from prison and drop him off. So he made her an offer. Become his wife for 50k, just while he handles his business. But soon after he married her, he decided he wanted to keep her. Ty was protective, could be sweet but he could be a dick too. But when Ty was wrong he would man up and say sorry. He also gave it his all when he decided he wanted the real thing with Lexie. He did his best to make her happy and keep her safe from his past. Ty was a yummy sexy crude mouth beast and I fell in love with him.

“How is this getting me dirty?” “Lexie, it comes down to it, I’ll be askin’ you to lie to cops.” “Ty, it comes down to it, I’ll be lying to dirty cops and everyone knows a double negative is a positive.”-Lex and Ty

Lexie has had a rough life. No family and from foster care, her one and only love her boyfriend Ronnie was killed, shot 7 times for living the wrong kind of life. She was mad at him and herself for not walking away. Now because of the circles her ex ran in she was under the thumb of a drug dealing pimp name Shift. So when she was asked to pick up a guy getting out of prison and take him where he wants to go she felt like she had no choice but to do it. After she picked up the yumminess that was Ty she realized she got played by Shift and that he gave her to Ty to be his wife because Shift owed him. Ty instead offers her a deal. Become his wife and he will pay her 50k and get her out from under Shift's thumb forever. So she took the deal knowing it would give her the new start she has been working for. 2 days in and she fell in love with her husband, who could be hard, closed off but giving and thoughtful. Lexie decided she was going to give him a home since he had 5 years of his life stolen from him. She was supportive, sweet and goofy. She wanted to make him smile and laugh. As much as I loved Ty and I did I loved Lexie more. She had that something special about her that really shined through the pages and felt tangible.

“Drama over, we’re back to us and I didn’t just fuck up, I did it huge, I said nasty shit that shouldn’t have been said and I can’t take that back. The wounds I inflicted went deep and I can only hope to Christ one day they heal over. Until that day, mama, all I can promise you is that I’ll do all I can do to beat that shit back and never do that to you again. But we got a rocky road ahead of us and I don’t know where it’s gonna lead before we get to the other side. The only thing I can give you is, that shit comes outta my mouth and cuts you, you gotta understand that shit was planted in me and I gotta get it out. I’ll try to do it in a way that doesn’t harm you but I obviously am not battin’ a thousand with that so I can make no promises except I’ll try. What you need to give me is to know it is not about you, it’s about me, you gotta suck it up and stand by me, you gotta know, in the end, I’ll work my ass off to make it all worth it to you and you gotta always remember I love you and I have never, not once, said those words to any breathing soul so you also gotta know what that means.”-Ty

Lexie and Ty's relationship was raw, intense and passionate. They had each others backs. Were supportive and gave their all to the relationship. There was some sweet and funny moments in their relationship, some really sexy moments and there were some moments that ripped my heart out. One of the things I loved about this book is there is a lot of Tate in this book. We get to see Krystal, bubba, Jim billy, Laurie, Jonas, Deke and Wood again too. I loved that Wood is back with his ex but I'm confused because I looked ahead in this series and I seen that wood gets his own book. How does he get a book if he and Mag are together? One thing I think really makes this series awesome is the amazing secondary characters KA writes. I mean the heroes are yummy and super alpha the heroine are sassy, and trendy, but the secondary characters have so much depth and heart I can't help but fall love with them all. This book was a total winner for me. I loved Lex, Ty and every minute of their story. Their Hea was perfect. I can't wait to start the next book!

Lady Luck is the third book in the Colorado Mountain series and, in my opinion, has the best storyline of the three. I adore Ty Walker who, if you can believe it, is even more crass and foul mouthed than either Max or Tate… or maybe even both Max and Tate combined! So yeah, be prepared, because this book takes crassiness to a whole new level! In fact, I made up a word to describe Ty – crasshat… a crass asshat… And I wouldn't change a thing about him.

So, let’s break it down. What is it that has me loving this book?

1. Ty might be a crasshat, but he’s not a stupid crasshat. He uses the smarts God gave him and doesn’t put the people he loves in danger (much) even though it means putting his plans for a much deserved revenge on hold.

2. Lexie Berry is a great heroine. Smart, independent, and never TSTL (Too Stupid To Live). She’s a woman who is 100% devoted to her loved ones, even if they don’t always deserve it.

3. The. Sex. Is. Hot. I mean, Burn. Up. The. Pages. Hot. (In my opinion.)

4. Fantastic story. Heartwarming, exciting, believable… loved it.

5. We see a lot of Tate and Wood. (Woot!)

6. Had me in tears.

7. One of the best, most heartbreaking scenes ever written! Not too spoiler:

I cried the first time I read that and I cry still when I think of it.

*sigh*

But yeah, another great, great story!

The re-read/listens are nearly as good as the first time...

***This review is REALLY spoilerish. I love this story so much, I needed a chance to put my thoughts down. So shut this sucker down if you haven't read Lady Luck yet, but make sure to come back for a chat when you've finished it. ***

First off...I love that Epilogue. Seriously, it was one of KA's best by far. Talk of babies, what's going on with everyone, who survived, who didn't, who has found love and who is happy to just be an observer to the happiness and love surrounding them. Sitting down to a Thanksgiving with all the characters you've loved or learned to love. Seeing Lexie at her goofiest, Ty at his sweetest and their friends happy and content to be around loved ones. I FREAKIN LOVED IT!! (channelling a little KA there).

Now, I was a little hesitant to start the audio of Lady Luck because I didn't want my happy memories to be dashed by a shoddy narrator. Luckily, I ended up having no problems with it at all. The narrator did a great job as she spoke very clearly, and I was able to tell when the characters changed easily. I think, in my case, the accents weren't an issue because they are not ones I hear a lot so have no basis to compare. I don't come across big, American, mountain men on the streets of Brisbane, Australia. So if Ty's accent is wrong or if Pena's was wrong, I can't judge. So overall, I enjoyed the audio of Lady Luck.

Now...time to talk Lady Luck. This book is packed full of emotions that can take you from the highest high to the lowest low. We are faced with characters who have not had the easiest life but still manage to keep on keeping on. They recognise and have lived with injustice. Neither Lexie nor Ty had good parents as role models. Luckily for both of them, they found good people who were willing to give them guidance and the support they lacked at home. What makes Ty and Lexie exceptional characters, is their strength and perseverance considering their negative and bad upbringings. Straight up...I loved these characters.

The beginning of the story where Ty and Lexie meet and get to know each other gave me such a goofy grin on my face. This is one of the best stories for a re-read/listen. You get excited when the good parts come (THE SHOWER SCENE) and you get sentimental when a part you know will have more meaning later in the book (the little notes) comes up. My chest puffs up with pride for Lexie when she pulls out her earrings (not knowing she just increased the believability of Ty's scam, but doing it because she's a sweetheart) in the scene at the tables and I love seeing the little glimpse of Ty's potential when he gets the vase for Lexie's flowers. These little things are what makes this book come alive for me. Even if I read this book or listened to this story 100 times, I think I'd still get that same buzz.

Lady Luck still has one of my most favourite scenes of any book I've ever read...the beach scene. Ty knows he has made a monumental mistake and needs Lexie to know how he feels. Now while that scene was one of my favourites, the scene that caused that one to happen, when Ty lashes out (with words) at Lexie, still manages to break my heart every time I read/listen to it. Later on, I wanted to kill Julius for causing Lexie heartbreak, but I loved Ty's reaction to it all. His arms wrapping around Lexie not just to comfort her, but to protect her from Julius's betrayal. Yes, Julius has success in getting them back together, but at first, I couldn't stand the pain Lexie had to deal with and what she had to recover from. I did get there in the end because I know Julius thought he was doing the right thing. He's a bloke, so, of course, he didn't understand or maybe didn't gauge the emotional devastation his actions would bring.

What Misty Keaton did is one of the evilest and self-serving things I've ever read. I absolutely HATED her...but then I felt sorry for her. Then, I felt guilty for feeling sorry for her. Then, I didn't feel guilty for feeling sorry for her because I remembered what I'd read in Breathe on how she was murdered. Guilty or not, no-one deserves to die that way. Chace Keaton is a character I struggle with. Even after reading Breathe I still struggled with him a little. He made some really dodgy decisions and completely disregarded his marriage vows. I mean, I understand why...but in some ways, I don't. I think I'll have to re-read or maybe listen to Breathe to see if that will help.

Lady Luck deals with a lot of betrayal. Parents who don't do their job right. The law not being upheld because of crooked cops. Friendships and family members who took advantage of their loved ones. While we had plenty of examples of what greed and selfishness can do, we also had shining examples of what good people can and will do. Samuel Sterling with his romantic heart. Detective Pena with his need to make sure that justice is equal whether you are a black or white person. Tate who always has his man's back. Ella, Bessy and Honey...not of blood but definitely family to Lexie. I enjoy seeing people come together to do good and when Ty's mates have a welcome home party when he got out of jail, and then when they are all there with the house check/inspection by Fuller, it just reinforces that there are good people out there.

Wow...the sex scenes...oh my lordy!! Sitting in my car and listening to Ty and Lexie getting it on...I had shivers up my spine. Look, I'm not a huge fan of the "mama", but in Ty's case his actions were WAY better than words.

I'm sure there are plenty of other things I could talk about from Lady Luck but I'd be here all day (and probably tomorrow) coming up with more reasons why I love it. I love that Lexie has had it tough but manages to find her happy place in a man who walked out of a prison with revenge on his mind. I adored that such a big, tough man who had 5 years taken from him, walked out to a woman who would blur the memories of those 5 years. I loved that his future challenges were successfully painting over nail polish on the walls or injuries sustained from standing on glitter pens.

I'll be taking a break from listening to the Colorado Men Series because WILDEST DREAMS (Fantasyland #1) comes out next week. Once I've finished that, I think I'll be listening to the audio of Breathe.

4 Stars (Originally read 4/24/2014)

4 Stars (Re-read 1/23/2017)

4 Stars (*Another Re-read 12/6/18*)

4 Stars (**Another Re-read 7/8/2019**)

Overall Opinion: This was an enjoyable re-read. I found that I didn't remember every single detail, so it was nice to read again. I liked experiencing their progression into love. I also liked how Ty melted from being a cold, closed off man into one that loved Lexie openly and was affectionate with her. Because of the revenge aspect this did have a lot of other stuff going on, but I appreciated how KA still took the time to develop the relationship and focus on the romance in between it all.

*I don't have much to add here, but I did get rather bored at the 80ish% point and started to skim. I might have been just anxiously waiting for the cute epilogue...so I'm not going to change my rating at this point*

**Again, I don't have much to add. I started this as an audiobook on a roadtrip and ended with reading my ebook copy. I did feel the same need to start skimming around 80ish% as I did on the last re-read, but I think this remains one of my all time favorite epilogues!**

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Lexie and Ty's story. They meet when Lexie picks up Ty from prison. She is stuck under the thumb of an unsavory man after her long-time boyfriend died, and she is made to do jobs for him like picking up Ty. Ty has been released after serving 5 years for a crime he didn't commit, and he has vengeance to get against the men that put him there. He didn't expect Lexie to be the one to pick him up. After propositioning Lexie, he gets her to agree to marrying him in exchange for an escape from the man that has control over her life. Soon they find that the lines between a fake marriage and a real relationship are blurred and they fall in love. There are some big obstacles they have to get through to find their happiness...but they do get a HEA in the end.

POV: This alternated between Lexie and Ty's POV (with a few sections in other side character's POV).

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well. As with most KA books, it is on the longer side - listed as 664 pages on Amazon.

Instalove: Yes, but not in the way that I found it unbelievable (and not expressed until close to the end that they were feeling love since the beginning).

H rating: 4 stars. Ty. I loved him until he messed up and pushed the h away. I did think he made up for his mistakes in the end, but I hated the way he reacted.

h rating: 4 stars. Lexie. She was a good combination of sweet, loyal, sassy, and loving. I only wished that she made Ty work a little harder for her forgiveness.

Sadness level: Moderate. I cried in this one. It never turned into ugly crying, and I never needed tissues though.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Moderate. They ave some hot chemistry and scenes, but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Not really

OW/OM drama: Not in the usual sense.

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had great closure with a jump ahead epilogue and a HEA ending.

How I got it: I paid $3.79 on Amazon for it back in 2014.

Safety: This should be Safe for the safety gals.

Nothing beats my Tate Jackson and Sweet Dreams, but I can truly say that I loved Lady Luck too!

Very brief synopsis:
Ty Walker is half-black. He won a poker game and someone got pissed and wanted to punish him. Ty was set up and took the fall for someone else and therefore was wrongly imprisoned. When he's released he walks straight to Lexie Berry. 'Shift' owes Ty. Shift is also a former friend of Ronnie. Ronnie was Lexie's boyfriend, and he got killed four years ago. Shift tells Lexie to pick Ty up. Unfortunately he didn't tell Lexie that Ty intends to marry her in Vegas. Ty needs her to put a plan into action. His revenge.

***********************************************************************

In the beginning of the story Ty is rather crude, rude, and very taciturn. Others may not understand it, however I had no problem with his being and acting like that. He comes out of a penitentiary for a crime he didn't commit. I don't think that everyone would feel totally grateful and happy to the world after being wrongly imprisoned. Ty is not bitter but he is really angry and he has trust issues. He seeks revenge.

Ty had a shitty childhood and growing up the way he did, dreams he had died early. He had to learn not to hope for too much when he experienced the bitter taste of disappointment. While the story unfolds, the asshole Ty was long gone and the taciturn Ty was a faded memory. Ty doesn't talk very much but at least he shares and he listens. Ty is a hot and intense alpha male who makes your toes curl. Yum! Besides his super hot body and incredibly good looks, he is in fact a generous, gentle, thoughtful, and protective man. I really loved him, maybe not during the first few chapters…But I felt for him and I think I did understand him.

Lexie…wow, another wonderful heroine…I admired the fun lovin' Lexie. Boy, does she like to "throw sass" (Ty's words). She had a very hard childhood and it's amazing to see that this person grew up to become such a fine, determined, and strong woman. She made a home for Ty and herself. She helped him by being herself. She was there for him and she gave as good as she got. And she made him smile and laugh. Lexie feels the vibes of friendship through Ty's friends. She needed that badly and she thinks it's a good and clean feeling. It feels right.

A shout out to Jill
About this mama nickname. After my initial WTF moment I really got used to it. It's kind of sweet and endearing. And if the shoe fits, wear it!!! I hope you'll get a feeling when you're reading the "quotes". I was wondering why he did call her mama. There could be a few reasons. His childhood and his mom were far from being perfect. Lexie made a home for him, she pampered him. She did things a mom would do for her child. Lexie calls him hubby and he replied by saying she's a goof and he calls her mama. Hubby and mama, that's quite a combo. Actually, Ty calls her "babe" and "baby" too…

When I was about 57 % into the story I almost (almost) had to endure a heart attack. Yeah, yeah, Ty, Lexie 'played' you, but since she did it for your own f***in' good, you should have been grateful!!! You said nasty things and acted like a dumb jerk! I am so glad you realized your mistake and you redeemed yourself. Again. *wipes eyebrows*

I admire the author's ability to create so much intimacy, lots of intimacy, actually. I don't necessarily mean the sex; it is much more about a look, a touch, a movement, a word. I hope you know what I mean. There's a lot of touching and she describes what Ty's doing with his hands; that's part of the intimacy. Or they're standing in the kitchen and he's eating. The whole process of describing that IS intimacy.
The author does such a fine job in developing the characters through lots of emotions. The pace is very good - again - and since the book is so long, there is never a need to rush things. It grows steadily. We really get to know the main couple and so many complex and interesting secondary characters as well. I loved the dialogs and I really appreciated to meet so many wonderful secondary characters. The plot is good and I just love Ms. Ashley's detailed and colorful writing! As usual there's a lot of swearing (f and s-bomb) but it fits the characters.

A reader mentioned that she didn't like the racist conflict of the story. I disagree and I even appreciated that part. I'm glad there are author's who show the readers that racism is present. I know whereof I speak. My two boys are half-black and they are confronted with racial problems. Big problems start out small, and I know it is substantial to cope with minor problems before they grow and will really cause harm.

I put my memorable "quotes"/lines in a spoiler. You may read them though, since I didn't include any spoilers. Enjoy!

Lady Luck may start out a little bit bumpy but it got better and better. Ty was a difficult character in the beginning of the story but he proved himself, and I became familiar with him. I really loved this guy! Ms. Ashley is able to create super hot alpha male heroes who will make your toes curl and really sassy heroines who can hold their own. The last few chapters are intense and thrilling and the story is nicely wrapped up with a very beautiful and hilarious epilogue. Lady Luck is another engaging and wonderful story written by an author I truly admire! Anyone who loves her books should give Lady Luck a go. Enjoy!

I am so looking forward to reading book 4 (Chace and Faye's story)! I can't wait to get my hands on their book!

Huge 5+ stars

Wow! What a fantastic story! Lady Luck was a book I was leery to read. I knew I would struggle with the hero, knowing how crass and disrespectful toward women he was, and I was right. What I didn't expect, however, was that I would ended up not only loving this passionate, emotional, intense, and captivating story, but I would also fall head-over-heels in love with the hero.

There were many things I loved about this book, but it was the love story between the hero and heroine, Ty and Lexie, that stole my heart and captured my imagination. I truly love this couple. The romance between Ty and Lexie was powerful and full of  devotion, admiration, understanding, tenderness, acceptance, and steamy hot passion. Of all the Kristen Ashley books I've read, Ty and Lexie's relationship felt the most authentic and substantial. They easily became one of my all time favorite couples, and Lexie by far my favorite heroine to date.

Lady Luck is another amazing story by Kristen Ashley. It's definitely a favorite!

This is the best and most wholesome . . .

just got out of prison - fake marriage - operation plan out revenge and take down dirty racist cops

. . . romance ever.

I’m mostly saying it because I can count on one hand all the books I’ve read that have all of those elements together. However, I’m also confident that even if that’s not entirely the case, the statement holds true regardless. That’s because I reallyyy liked this book.

“He didn’t mind doin’ that time when doing it meant he would walk out to Lexie.”

I wanted to LOVE it and give it five stars. Reasons being that I adored Ty and Lexie both as individual characters and a couple. I enjoyed the instantaneous nuptial, the gambling casino, the road trip, the family drama, and suspense A LOT. Not to mention, Tate and Lauren and all the other characters from previous books are here too. Tate and Ty’s bromance gave me life.

Additionally, reading this made me want to re-read Breathe, which is the next book in the series that I’ve already read before picking this one up. It’s just the added context and perspective made me sympathize and appreciate Chace more. It also made me realize how disgusting his father was. I’ve always thought so, but this time it sank in deep.

“This is us, Team Walker, you and me. We want somethin’, we find a way to get it. We hit a rough patch, we find a way to get over it. We face a challenge, we find a way to beat it. It’s good, we savor it. What I’m sayin’ is, this team is a winner. We never forget to celebrate the victories and we get a lotta those because we never admit defeat.”

As to why this is not a five stars, I’m not so sure. It’s a combination of these things as follows, and it could be something else I don’t really know how to articulate which I’d just cop out as . . . my feelings and it is what it is.

↠ The fact that a variation of this, “My woman is a goof,” sentence was uttered for what felt like a gazillion times. We’re no stranger to KA’s repetitiveness, but this one struck a nerve.

↠ There was lot more telling than showing, and the transition, “just to explain and update a few things,” was also used many times than I liked.

↠ The get the girl back moment which Ty made an effort of showing but ultimately was not enough (for me). The grovel was good, and you can say he can take a hint. On the other hand, I feel like he gave up too easily by going far as preparing divorce papers after ONE fruitless attempt to get her back.

↠ The PRANK, which was just distasteful. It was over the top and one of the oldest trick in the book but also simply CRUEL.

↠ I’ve never heard the term of endearment mama used on a significant other. I was unfamiliar with it. Though I did grow to like it. Especially the way Ty said it, ahh. *heart eyes*

↠ The action from Ty specifically was lacking. I’m rejoiced that Lexie practically saved herself during the last showdown at the end of the book, but Ty what kind of hero are you if you don’t save your girl? He didn’t make any moves and was just constantly on the phone freaking out. I guess, at least that’s something.

↠ The black representation was too on the nose. That sounds loaded, but maybe more to the point, the portrayal was stereotypical (which can probably be uncomfortable for some) or is it just me?

Bottom line, not my favorite but great reading nonetheless, and I’m not opposed to re-reading it in the future.

Every weekend I join the cool-girls in the BBB group and read a Kristen Ashley book with them. And, every weekend, I rant about how the alpha-males are complete assholes. It's a tradition that I enjoy - like the tradition of dying Easter eggs. Sure, you have to deal with the smell of boiled eggs and vinegar, the mess of little cups of dye all over the table that never seems to come off, and the annoyance of trying to figure out something to do with all of those dyed eggs later (blue and pink egg salad anyone?), but you'd never consider skipping it because of the fun you have with your fellow egg-dyers. The BBB girls are my fellow egg-dyers, so bring on the stinky mess!

See, Kristen Ashley books have a formula:

a total caveman alpha whose behavior borders on abuse and at times even criminal

a female who is skittish about being involved with this man for various reasons (none of them being that he is a pushy asshole for some reason. More like 'I'm not pretty enough for him' *eye roll*)

a crime that is complicated and directly involves the couple

at least one kidnapping - possibly more

a gay guy

a zany character who steals the show

at least one break-up

and tons of interruptions and misunderstandings between the couple.

These things are in every book. If you haven't had a kidnapping yet, it's coming. It's always coming.

So, in this book we have Ty, a guy who is getting out of prison after serving 5 years for a crime he didn't commit; and Lexie, a girl who picks him up from prison as a favor to her ex-boyfriend's friend. Ty has spent his 5 years in prison plotting revenge on the people who set him up. He needs a wife who will be his alibi and have his back if the bad guys try to frame him again. He offers Lexie 50 grand to play wife to him. She is no fool and agrees.

Of course they fall in love. We have learned that these kind of situations always turn out that way in books and movies.

The book was fun and action filled. Lexie and Ty were a very cute couple. And, here's the thing - I actually liked Ty! He is the first guy in this series that I have actually liked. Except, one big thing: he has a mouth on him that is so crude that I wanted to smack him. I get that he was in prison, but come on! That was my only problem with this guy, though, and that's saying a lot for a KA book. If we could take all of the times he uses those horrible words for women and replace them with "ladies", "girls", "gals", or even "females", I would have been a happy camper.

That's right, gay man. You know how to treat a lady!

Thoughts after a re read.

Still a 5 star read for me.

I love how Ty "enters" the story. The first time we "see" him.

I glanced at my watch to see it was twelve oh seven and then I glanced down the tunnel again and something was moving though the shimmers. That path was long and the heat on the day was immense so I didn't see much but something made me keep watching.

And as the thing moving through the shimmers formed into a man, I kept watching as my breath started sticking in my throat.

Then the man kept getting closer, coming into focus through the heat waves and my breath grew shallow as my body grew still.

I didn't blink. I didn't move. I just watched that man coming at me and my car.

Then he got even closer and my body moved for me. I didn't have to tell it to move, it just did. Without taking my eyes off him, my hand reached for the door handle, released it and I unfolded out of the car, losing sight of him only when the roof was in my way for less then a second.

...

He was huge. Huge. I'd never seen a man that big. He had to be six foot five, six foot six, maybe even taller.

His shoulders were immensely broad. The wall of his chest was just that. A wall. His hips were narrow, his thighs enormous. He was muscle from neck down, pure, firm, defined, muscle.

........

That said, his face, though sheer male beauty, was blank. Scary blank Expressionless. Completely. His eyes were on me standing in my opened door watching him round the hood and turning with his movements. But there was nothing in those eyes. Nothing. Void.

It was terrifying

Awesome and breath taking, I could almost feel the heat as I was reading, and quite frankly, it just got better.

This is a beautiful story of two people, who have repeatedly had shit handed to them in life, coming together, when neither expected it and finding something beautiful, but too scared to to trust it at times. Brilliant 5 stars.

Ty (36) and Lexie’s (34) meet cute was something out of the norm - Lexie is doing a favor for someone who has her pick up Ty on the day he was released from prison. The guy who sent Lexie to pick up Ty didn’t let her know that she was being offered to Ty as a thank you for taking the fall.
Ty was wrongly framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Now that he's out of prison his mission is to right the wrong for the price he paid. He needs an alibi and that is where his "thank you gift" (aka Lexie) comes into play. He plans to marry Lexie in Vegas.

I listened to the audio of LADY LUCK. At one point "lady luck" wasn't on my side because audibles had me update my app in the middle of listening to this book. Unfortunately, it started the book over for me. *ugh* It took some time but I figured out where I was in the book and was able to finish it.

I enjoyed the story but it took a bit for me to get used to the narrator's voice for Ty. Her male voice wasn't what I had pictured in my mind.

Another entertaining Kristen Ashley book.

Needing some space to regroup, I took a ride back to re-discover books and authors that touched me and wouldn't let go. Kristen Ashley has always been my calming go to. She has this way of writing that once you get her mindset and understand how she weaves a tale, it can be addicting, especially with her "Vintage OG series. These books are always something I come back to.

5 Getting Your Dream Stars-review 2013/2018
* * * * * Spoiler Free
June 15, 2021- This was released in 2011 and yet, the focus of the book and all the issues are still at the forefront of society's woes. A powerful book and demonstrates how timeless injustice can be.

June 13, 2021-So with all that has been happening in life, sometimes you have to go back and revisit what you know, what you feel sure of and that is what I did. Worked through At Peace and then transitioned to Knight and now reading Lady Luck. I do not know where this endeavor is going to take me next but there is a peace in knowing whichever book I pick up from the Vintage group of KA, I will be ok.

Re-Read 2018
A few weeks ago I saw a promotion saying The Gamble was free. Well, that being a favorite in one of my favorite Kristen Ashely series…that notice started me on a path of re-reads of the entire series. The first three entries of the Colorado Mountain series were part of that Golden Year of Publishing for Ashley, 2011. It was during that time she put out twenty-one books…

Yup…Amazing…

Lady Luck has been a fan favorite forever…it has everything and more…And when I say that I am not kidding.

It has two main characters who have lived a tortured life, mirroring in many ways the same pain. It addresses racism, corruption, and inequities just to name a few. Those factors would normally be enough to give a story substance…but in Kristen Ashley’s hands, she took it to another level. From the opening scene, she gave us these people where we were drawn in and could not look away.
There are numerous reviews that will give you everything you need and I encourage you to read them…I am not one to re-invent the wheel…

But I will share a couple of observations.
Ashley’s talent in building her stories is very sneaky… she leads you to believe things have reached where they need to be and then slams you into something else… and then takes that something else and ties it up with a whole other theory seamlessly. To be able to come up with all of the intricacies to do this is telling…

She also has this way of writing scenes of loving, fu@king, and just plain touching that makes you want…want it all for yourself…but also so happy for the characters.

Ty and Lexi are extremely special and in all the reading I have done…there are very few couples who caused as many heart-stopping moments… moments where you stare at the page and just have to breathe to take the beauty of it all in. Ashley does this repeatedly and it comes at times where you don’t expect it…and that is her gift.

Ashley is also the master of introducing characters; people who she wants you to be concerned about, to ponder and wonder what their deal is…so that when she writes the next tale you are all in. In re-reading Lady Luck, the introduction of Chace and Faye was so strong, the set up was priming us to run to the bookstore and stand in line for a year to get Breathe.

So to sum this up, Lady Luck is a book to not let go…to hold onto all of the beauty it displays…It is a book of hope, love, and everything Ashley.

5+ stars – Contemporary Romance

A bunch of my fellow romance lovin’ Goodreads friends have been reading and raving about Kristen Ashley, and with great reason. Lady Luck is the third book in the Colorado Mountain series, and after reading it, I’m now 3 for 3 with her books being big 5 star winners that I loved.

There’s just something about her stories that grab me right from the beginning and never let go. I especially love how the details, descriptions, and conversations depict such vivid images of the characters and scenes so that it feels like you’re watching a movie in your mind. It’s true that the editing could use improvement and there’s perhaps too much elucidation of inane minutiae, like clothes, jewelry, outfits, rooms, furniture, and common “stuff”. But overall Ashley’s unique writing style and genuine, engaging dialogue bring the story and cast to life. Her books are unusually lengthy and take me longer to read than other authors/books, but then astonishingly when they’re over, I’m sad and still want more. Fortunately, she also gives her readers superb epilogues that more than satisfy.

I absolutely adored Lexie, but I didn’t warm up to Ty quite as easily. I felt bad for him and all that he endured, and his anger, cynical mistrust of women, and desire for vengeance were more than justified. Even so, Ty’s cruel treatment of Lexie in a couple of momentous, heartbreakingly intense scenes really pissed me off. I cried like a baby and felt nearly as emotionally flayed and raw afterward as she did. Lexie’s such an incredibly sweet, loyal, giving, and loving heroine, and I wasn’t sure he’d be able to win me back after he’d hurt her so terribly and unforgivably. Amazingly he did, and with icing and a cherry on top. It certainly didn’t hurt that he’s a smokin’ hot, tortured, badass alpha, which I can never resist.

Crude language doesn’t bother me, but there’s a lot of fuckin’, pussy, and bitch talk in this that got somewhat grating at times. Also, I didn’t really care for Ty’s nickname “mama” for Lexie initially, but it grew on me after a while.

My summary of the Colorado Mountain series so far:
Favorite hero: Max from The Gamble
Favorite heroine: Lexie from Lady Luck
Favorite overall story/book: Sweet Dreams
And I can’t wait for Chace and Faye’s story!

I’m glad she’s got an extensive backlist and more book releases coming because I definitely want to read more by this author! Big 5 stars!

I envisioned hunkalicious Boris Kodjoe as Ty. He doesn’t have enough tats, but I’ve got a great imagination and could mentally tat him up.

I imagined Jennifer Garner or Rachel Weisz as Lexie. I think either of them could play her with the perfect mix of sweet, goof, and sass.

As much as I hated Motorcycle Man, I *still* thought that maybe I was missing something. Did I pick the wrong book? Will I find the magic with another?
The answer is no.

*I've edited this dang thing so many times and it never sounds exactly right to me so bullet points it is. Blerg.

-Race/Racism as a plot device. The same drama/conflicts of every other KA book are present here (evul women, kidnapping) except this time cuz racism. Badly executed, ham-fisted, cartoonish, just...no. I don't need this author to paint a very heavy, serious topic with her OTT brush. It's offensive and she gets no props for it. She gets away with a lot that black authors would get severely criticized for, IMO.

-"Just to explain and update a few things…" is used to transition scenes. I can't.

-99% of the action happens on the phone. Ty makes NO MOVES. What a hero!

-Hero talks in Caveman Pidgin. Occasionally he talks in Overgrown Toddler. At one point Ty said to Lexie, "Mama. Kiss." NOT SEXY. NOT CUTE. Apparently every KA hero talks this way. What the actual fuck?

-Over-descriptiveness of things that no one could give a fuck about: "her other hand going into her hair at her forehead, pulling the thick, shining, waving dark mass back, lifting a huge bunch of it at the back of her head and shaking it a couple of times before dropping it only for it to fall into and around her face again, settling on her shoulders and streaming down her back." It would have been nice if the action and suspense of the story were given this sort of detail. Nah, let's waste time talking about hair and sunken kitchens and smothered pork chops. -_-

-Sex scenes suck.

In conclusion, NOPE!

Man.... when am I gonna be doing a favor for a pimp I used to know by picking up an ex-con from jail who looks like a honey-eyed Jeremy Meeks only to have him announce that he'll pay me 50k to marry him so now I have a hot devoted husband, a stacked bank account, and a whole new life.... One of these days bro one of these days 😔

Thank you Jam for raving about this book so hard that even my cynical ass had to pick it up. I'm celebrating my first ever KA book I didn't dnf (yeah im flexing im hyped it's whateva)

We'll start with our hero Ty Walker, aka softest hard boy, aka silent king, aka mista wise beyond his years. This man made me lol. I feel like any quotes I drop won't explain in full glory why his monosyllabic ass was so funny, it was more about his consistency and commitment to cavemen speak that really had me dying in a 'wtf' way that quickly turned 'he is so precious' way. I'm still gonna try though.

“You and me are getting married.”
My head jerked again even as the rest of my body froze.
Then I said shrilly, “What?”
“I need a wife, you’re her.”

mans rly said 'you're her.' lmaoooo well,

he would listen to a whole ass sob story and then respond w a freakin headshot —

“I loved him, crazy loved him,” I said quietly.
“Never pimped you?”
At his question, I turned my head to face him again then shook it.
“Miracle,” he muttered.
“Ronnie wouldn’t let anything touch me.”
“You’re wrong.”
I blinked. “What?”
“Might not have wanted your mouth around another man’s cock but he didn’t give a shit about you.”
My throat closed as what he said penetrated but I pushed past it and began, “I –”
“Didn’t give that first shit.”

me, taking notes:
didn't ✍🏽 give ✍🏽 that ✍🏽 first ✍🏽 shit

He has a very simplistic view on life and a way of cutting through the bullshit that was quite refreshing. Now onto my girl Lexie. She was straight up fantastic, I liked her even more than I liked Ty. So relatable, so funny, so optimistic and fun. Her and Ty balanced each other perfectly and I loved that this girl was just downnnn.

“How is this getting me dirty?”
“Lexie, it comes down to it, I’ll be askin’ you to lie to cops.”
“Ty, it comes down to it, I’ll be lying to dirty cops and everyone knows a double negative is a positive.”

she was no pushover and would say things that I felt deep in my soul

This anger stopped me from calling him because I worried I’d shout at him over the phone and I didn’t want to do that. I didn’t want to do that because if I did, it was easy for him to hang up. When I shouted at him, I wanted it to be hard for him to get away from what I was saying.

girl..... me and u... we same

The race/corruption plot line impressed me a lot, especially for being written in 2011. The reason I can't rate this higher is... the writing. It just took me out of the story sometimes and Ty went on about Lexie's physical attributes a bit too much for my liking. And this thing was long. Like maybe a hundred pages too long. I also would've appreciated a bit more angst, because while I enjoyed this couple and thought they were great together, I can't say I was super excited for them to cross the line or was on my toes at the sexual tension. However, these two in a word were just freakin adorable. I was so happy when they got their HEA bc it felt so well deserved.

4 Lucky Stars!!

I'm so happy to say I really enjoyed this KA. She's either a hit or a miss and lately she's been missing the target, but this one is definitely a winner. Ty and Lexie...I don't think I'll ever forget this couple.

Full review to come after I've gathered my thoughts:

"We'd weathered one hell of a storm. But we didn't come out with nicks and dents. We came out tougher, stronger, closer."

*GRIN* Squee!! Another winner from Kristen Ashley :D

I seriously cannot get enough of her books!! I'm totally, utterly, blissfully ADDICTED !!!!

Ty Walker just got released from prison. Lexie owes a guy so she agreed to pick him up and get him to wherever he needed to go, thinking it would be a quick and easy task. But Ty has enemies, and she's with Ty, she needs his protection, he needs someone at his back, and he works out a deal with her to marry him until he does what he needs to do and once its done, they'll go their separate ways. But what she thought would be a simple pick up, turned out to be a crazy roller-coaster filled with corrupt police departments, road trips, over-achieving pimps, racist dirty cops, vengence, betrayals, undercover agents, and in the middle of all this maddness, finding crazy, intense, passionate love that sweeps them both off their feet.

I literally loved Ty right from the beginning. He was very different from a lot of KA's other male characters in the he was fairly non-verbal. He didn't say a lot but when he spoke, his words had weight.

He knows what he wants, and he was willing to work as hard as was necessary to get it. And right off the bat, he wanted Lexie. Like now.

But I just loved how smart and nearly always in control of himself he was. He was also driven, and not one to be tempted away from his goals by stupidity.

Lexie was an amazing heroine. Maybe even one of my fav KA ones so far. She was very much like a female Brock (from Dream Man #2). She was sassy, but very deeply understanding. She was fun-loving, but very open, honest, caring, and fair. She was straight to the point and didn't bullshit her way through anything. And, lol, she was a bit of a goof :P

I loved Ty and Lexie's "give and take" way of getting to know each other. Just like their relationship, it was fair, open and funtional... as well as being a great way to learn about each other.

We got a really cool deviation from the KA norm in this book in that the whole story was told in alternating POV's between Ty and Lexie. This was amazing for so many reasons. Firstly, we got to see (long term) inside the head of a KA man - got to experience him seeing Lexie "throwing sass" and thinking it was cute, got to be on the other side of the banter...

"He looked to her and saw her shove an entire Ding Dong in her mouth.
Ding Dongs.
Christ.
Total goof.
They hit the highway, she jacked the music up and he experienced the unusual desire to beg someone to drive ice picks into his ears so he wouldn't have to listen to it."

And secondly, his POV was great because, since he wasn't a very verbal guy, it was really great to be able to understand where he was coming from, why he did the things he did, what he experienced during fights, and even several smokin' HOT love scenes from his POV.

There were times when the story made my head spin with the complexity of the plot line (for which I knocked off the .5 star) but that was my only complaint... and it doesn't overpower the story. In fact, we actually get to see a LOT of Ty and Lexie as a couple in this book.

"Never had a light in my life, never, not once. I lived wild but I didn't burn bright until you shined your light on me."

There is a huge focus on their actual relationship in Lady Luck and I love that we got to see them as a fully functional couple for a good chunk of the story. They have nearly instant attraction for each other and start their connection quite early on. Sure, there are a few bumps in the road (one in particular that put my heart right in my throat!) but they get over them fast and learn from their mistakes and only end up closer as a result of them.

"This is it, Team Walker, you and me. We want somethin', we find a way to get it. We hit a rough patch, we find a way to get over it. We face a challenge, we find a way to beat it. It's good, we savor it. What I'm sayin' is, this team is a winner. We never forget to celebrate the victories and we get a lotta those because we never admit defeat."

I also really loved that even though the story (what with uncovering the truth behind Ty's wrongful conviction) had a whole lot of drama, within their relationship, they were pretty solid. And even when they did screw up, the reason behind the screw up was always completely understandable - never stupid or out-of-the-blue. And they both knew how to apologize, and apologize well... lol, you'll all know that this made me a very happy reader :P

And boy were their (frequent) sexy times H.O.T.!!! I mean really HOT! I fanned my way through many a bedroom scene.

Another thing that fans of Sweet Dreams (book #2) will love is how much of Tate we get to see in this book!! He's one of Ty's two best friends and we see a lot of him (and Laurie). Definitely made for some squee-worthy moments! (Although, we didn't really see much more than a fleeting glimpse of Max unfortunately. I'm looking forward to the next book because I hear he's more heavily featured in it... YAY! I miss him!)

"He had good friends. The kind of friends you didn't just get. The kind of friends you earned."

And I also thought it was so cool that we were introduced to Chase, the hero of the next book, about half way though this one. He's not a feature character, but he's there a lot and I really liked getting to know him a little and see a bit of his back story from afar before reading his book.

The epilogue was fantastic and it was LONG! What a treat! KA's epilogues always leave me grinning and with the best feelings... there is something so comforting about seeing the characters you have come to know and love get their HEAs in detail. So heart warming!! <3

4.5+ stars

Here's how I see Ty and Lexie:

My favorite Colorado <3 This is a beautiful story, even if it's about revenge and rasizm, KA really knows how to write them.

10 stars from me :)))

The writing - I don't usually comment on KA-s writing style, I know a lot of people don't like it, concerning the grammar and stuff, but I'm not one of them. When I read I read emotions, and KA novels have that, and it's pictured perfectly. I mean, like in this one, when we read from TY-s point of view, every freaking time he got that thing that pierced through his chest on the left side, I swear I felt it too. I just can't read that and not get into it. And in the middle of the novel there's a chapter in which she says something bad's gonna happen, and I was in stomach chramps when thad bad thing actually happened, she really knows how to build the tension, I was on needles, and it was my second read. I remember my first, man that was tough.

He looked in her blue-gray eyes and there it was. Or, more to the point, there it wasn’t.

The light was out.

That's what I mean, I know what happened, and when he saw the lights were out, my throat just closed.
So for me, KA writing has quality, if I can smile, laugh, cry, get misty-eyed, annoyed and angsty - that's all I can ask for :)

The story - It's about revenge, rasizm and dirty cops. Now, this doesn't sound very appealing, a bit of a heavy subject, but I loved it, and KA wrote it so well <3 Just great :) Ty was set up, he ended in prison for 5 years, now that he's out he wants revenge for the time he lost. Lexie is forced to do a favor for a shady guy who does dirty business, she picks up Ty when he gets out of jail, the go to Vegas and get married XD

Lexie - She's had a really tough time in her life, been with a pimp and a drug dealer who got shot. Then she does a favor for another pimp/drug dealer, mostly because she can't get out of that life without some help. That's why she accepts Ty's offer, they get married, he gives her money and helps her start a new life. Of course, Ty being the most beautiful man she ever saw, and the sparks flying all over, that fake marriage was doomed from the start to become a real one :))

Ty - KA doesn't do much of tortured heroes, but Ty here would mostly fit that description :) He's been decieved by a woman, the town police framed him for a crime he didn't commit, he was in jail for 5 years and wants revenge. He of course has a lot of issues, one being not to trust any "pussy" as he refers it XD the second are his jail demons which he has a hard time getting over. But Lex is something different, he sees that from the start, they bond pretty fast, that scene in Vegas when he gets to the pool and she smiles at him - swoony to the max <3 He made some stupid desisions, part from fear of being betrayed, part from anger from being played, even if it was for his own good :P All in all he is a complex character, and really does it for me, just love him :)

Favorite scenes
- the non-verb conversation in the diner after he gets out XDXD
- at the pool when she smiles at him
- when she makes the glass thingy from the bouquet
- when he finds her at the beach :((( man I cried at that one
- when she sees him alive in the house

BTW, in this one we got a glimpse of Chase and Faye <3 Can't wait to read them :))))

Third time rereading this and I always come back to this book and I can’t explain why. I just throw my feminism through the window, put my feet up and enjoy Ty’s and Lexie’s story with their Lady Luck. I have to up it to 4 stars because no matter what, they are always a comfort read to come back to.

Original rating
A fuckuva lot of swearing, a whole lot of "mama", an H who didn't like to use many verbs in one sentence and many, many, many things being "the shit" later...

I liked this book! I was going to rate it 4stars because I loved the first 70-80%, the romance was good but the in-between from 80% to 90% was tedious, the story is not only about their romance, which is the main point, but also the revenge of Ty, and although it was good for the story, I had to force myself to finish it because it got, for me, a bit boring towards the end.

Having said that, I loved how the author built the romance between Ty and Lexey, I loved he wasn't a communicator with words and how she handled that. And I really liked all the family relationships, family who wasn't by blood but by love and loyalty.

KA never disappoints!! Her Alpha males are fan-fucking-tastic!!

Ty Walker was wrongfully imprisoned for 5 years. The day he gets out, Lexie is there to pick him up as a favor to mutual friend. Ty talks Lexie into posing as his wife in order to keep is cover and help him clear his name. Of course they eventually fall in love for real - I mean Ty is a walking sex god - who wouldn't agree to marrying him????

Lexie has been unlucky since the day she was born and is afraid to trust love. Luckily for her Ty is willing to prove to her that she can actually have happiness in life. I mean if your nick name is "Mr. Humongo", you can't go wrong, right?

OMG - my man Tate is back in this book. The bromance between the two is fabulous!! And yes I shamelessly used the review to post pics of Jesse Williams as Ty, because he is freaking hot!!

Everyone - read this book. Ty is a dirty talking sex god that will have you on the edge of your seat, wanting to jump into the book and take Lexie's place.

A buddy read with the most amazing KA addicts at BB&B's attic!

Another KA book, another hot couple, an alpha male with Neanderthal manner, a lost girl in a tough situation, and a struggle to find trust in humanity and each other... They are both damaged, craving what most take for granted, but seems forever out of reach for the two of them... Will Lady Luck look favorable upon them at least this one time?

Well, this is KA we are talking about and her books come with a Happily Ever After guarantee!!! This is one of the reasons we keep coming back for more, because after she puts her characters through the wringer, gives them some tough trails and tribulations, gets them hurt, kidnapped and shot at, there better be some candy cane sweet ending for most, if not all good guys, or there will be only desolation and no insensitive to come back for more....

As in the previous books in this particular series, it could have used some editing and been cut down by about 100 pages. But even with the extra, not needed in the least description of the hygiene routines of our heroes, KA did it again and I could not put the book down - I wanted to know what happens and in this specific book, WHAT THE HELLS IS IN THIS TAPE THAT DISTURBED THEM ALL SO MUCH??? Details, KA, inquiring minds need to know!

This is a contemporary romance with crude language and if you have an issue with demeaning terms to women, this book is not for you. However, if you can get past the language of a felon who has just gotten out of prison, the romance is worth reading, and the two main characters have a ton of chemistry and sizzle!!! This is not for my feminist friends or sheltered young folks. For all the rest, who like their Romances on the cruder side of realistic, this is a fun read!

I hope you all have cuddled up with a nice book for the weekend and may you all have a great reading experience! Happy reading, y'all!!!

Holy hell I forgot how much I loved the little endearments and plots-twists in this one. I didn't want it to end, and I read that epilogue through happy tears. My god, I am addicted to Kristen Ashely's writing.

It is official; I am a crazy, obsessed Kristen Ashely fan. If I am ever in need of a crazy romance fix (which is all the time and I ain't ashamed about nothing), Kristen is my go-to girl.

Her books are outrageous with borderline ridiculous plots, filled to the brim with alpha males and women who can give it as good as they get it. And angst. So much entertaining angst that leaves you in tears.

Lexie Berry meets Ty Walker for the first time when she picks him up from jail, where he had served five years for a murder he didn't commit, framed because he was bi-racial and came from a town where the cops didn't like anybody with colour.

Together they go back to Ty's home town, where they strike a deal that helps both of them. They are the most adorable characters who bicker like crazy and are full of drama. Probably my favourite in this series, the side characters that come along with them are well-fleshed and hilarious. Couldn't get enough and I'm thinking about this book days after.

I'm not telling you more because I don't want to ruin all the feels. SO JUST READ THE BOOK.

Can't believe I didn't review this the first time 'round. Discovered Kristen Ashley about a year or 2 ago and have read a lot of her books. Read this series last year and totally loved it. Saw that Kristen had another book out based in Carnal about Chace so decided to re-read Sweet Dreams (Colorado Mountain Series), The Gamble, Lady Luck (Colorado Mountain Series) before starting the new book. Was it as good as I had thought it was - or should I say were they as good as I thought they were. Even BETTER. Read this series - it is fantastic - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Word of warning - if you do start any of her books, make sure you have plenty of time put aside as you will not want to put them down.

Seriously, the shower scene in this book was one of the hottest I have ever read - Yowza!!

Ok, I think I am done with Kristen Ashley. She writes too long… too too long. I don’t need to know all those details that are way too boring and they also kill the reading pleasure I take from a book.

There is too much mundane stuff that’s been put there just to turn a possibly 250-page book into a 600-page one.

Too much drama, too many threats, attacks, kidnappings and violence, too much of everything.

Why does she turn a possibly good book into a reading torture, I have no idea but I am done… totally done with her.

I loved GAMBLE in the Colorado Mountain series mostly due to the awesomeness of the hero Max and therefore, I wanted to try the other books in the series, hoping I might get another awesome hero like Max.

I didn't like Tate in Sweet Dreams and I didn't like Ty in Lady Luck.

So, neither the other heroes are as good (not even close) as Max nor the books are tolerable any more.

Book 2 and 3 consumed all my patience and tolerance for drama for the sake of drama.

Nope... No more…

Here is just a quick info about the book if you still want to try it.

Ty is the son of a white woman and a black man. He was in prison for something he didn’t do.

The heroine, Lexie, picks up him from prison on his release day as some pimp who has a control over her asked her to do it. She marries Ty on day 2 because he offers her a deal. It will be a fake marriage and she will help him in some way to take his revenge and he will both pay her money and also save her ass from that drug dealer pimp.

She agrees and they marry in Vegas. Their marriage quickly turns into real but Ty is an asshole to her a few times. He has trust issues as he was framed by the help of a woman he slept with. He breaks Lexie’s heart a few times and he breaks it bad.

In one of them, he kicks her out of his house. He tells her to gather her things and leave. After that, a few weeks later, he comes to his senses and goes to Lexie to apologize and asks her to come back but she doesn’t. I needed him to grovel. I needed him to crawl back to her many more times until she took him back but when she refuses to go back, he leaves and then prepares divorce papers. Then, a friend interferes and brings them together but I didn’t like the way they come back together because it was a friend’s doing.

If I were Lexie, I would never go back to that house I was kicked out of. And even if I would, I would expect him to crawl back to me on his knees so many times so that I would kick him out of my house like he did. And after maybe 10 times of crawling and kicking, I might have considered forgiving him. So, for a person like me who cannot forgive easily, their coming back together was too easy for me. After that point on, I hated Ty and I hated the book. Till then, despite all the length, it was OKish but after him kicking her out, I hated the book and I hated Ty and I never recovered.

In short, Lexie was good, she was nice and lovable but Ty was hard to like as far as I was concerned.

Again, as in Book 2, there is no protection from STDs. No talk of it.

Just towards the end, he tells her to stop taking pills but why was a woman who never had sex for 4 years taking pills? Never mentioned!

One more thing... Ty calls Lexie, "Mama" all the time and I hated it. I know what it means but I don't still like it as it sounds like "Mother" to me.

*********************************************

This book marks the end of my efforts to try a KA book.
Bye…

Lexie Berry is told by a low-life named Shift to pick up Ty Walker from a California prison. He will deliver the next set of instructions once she arrives. Yeah, there's a reason this guy's called Shift as Ty's next agenda item is a doozy.

I won't rehash what happens next (you should have the pleasure of discovering that yourself) or their histories but trust they both have interesting ones. While their first meeting was bizarre, it was also kismet. What comes next is a funny, sometimes poignant and always interesting journey for the two of them. Both get something out of the deal they forge that will help them carve out a new path but they never counted on sticking or developing a romantic connection.

It's hard not to like Lexie who is extremely loyal and despite all of the hard knocks she's received in life still maintains an infectious sense of optimism. Ty is more taciturn but even he can't help being positively affected by Lexie. The narrator does a very good job of distinguishing the new characters and I loved her depiction of Lexie.

I really enjoyed this story, a lot. As with all the other books I've read in the series, it's highly addictive. Ashley just knows how to tell a story. My only criticism is with the descriptive language used by Ty for women. It was a huge turnoff...nothing romantic or seductive about it. Otherwise, this was a really fine story. 4.5 stars

Still had my same issues from previously but I absolutely love this book and the mcs

Gah I love this book so freaking much! This is one of a handful of books which always make me buy KA's books, the hope for another Ty and Lexie make it hard to give up on this author even with H's I absolutely hate like Keaton(y'all know I had to say it 😂)

8-4-19

Reread # hmmmm I've stopped counting. Still love this one as in really love it! Still not a fan of Ty and him saying"pussy" in reference to women but this remains one of my top favorite books if not my #1 favorite.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reread 11-02-19-------After reading Free by KA, I had to reread this to remind myself why I even picked up a KA book in the first place. At the end of this, coming off the high that Ty and Lexie delivered I'm convinced that KA did not write Free..... Nuh uh the author who gave this to me would never deliver something like Free so it's evident that........the aliens did it.....I'm sticking to that! This as usual is allllllll the damn things. Absolutely still a favorite!

***-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------***

Lady luck has played with Lexie all her life, from a crap childhood ,to happiness with Ella, then taking a chance on Ella's son and him getting mixed up in bad shit that led to him being dead and her doing favors for a bad guy. One of those favors was picking up Ty Walker from prison. Ty proposes a fake marriage that he'll pay Lexie for so that he could pursue his vengeance. Lexie agrees and Mr and Mrs Walker head back to Carnal.

I loved, loved, loved Lexie. I don't think I've ever read an h who took care of her man like Lexie did with Ty. With both their shitty childhood's she set out to create a home for him. Within days of her fake marriage it was clear she already had feelings for Ty. She was funny sweet loving but still managed to throw sass and have a backbone while being the wife of a seriously Alpha alpha male. When Ty screwed up huge and went to Lexie on that beach she proved her strength because she somehow resisted his apologies. I'd have caved at the first "mama" 😂

Tyrell Walker had a shitty run of luck. He went from living the good life, getting pussy having money, good friends and a stable job to being locked away for a crime he didn't commit. All because some whacked police officers didn't like the black part of his makeup and needed a fall guy for their bad shit. He was understandably bitter and determined to get his vengeance. As much as I loved Ty and melted at every "Mama" throughout this book he said some seriously dumb shit sometimes. He messed up twice with Lexie by sprouting some bs thankfully after the dramatic reunion after their second blowup he learnt his lesson and only gave goodness to his wife. One of my major peeves with Ty though was his penchance for referring to women as pussy. It aggravated me to no end every time he did this but in the end the good that was Ty Walker far out weighed the bad that was his pussy preference.

With bad guy cops floundering trying to cover up their bad guy duties and some bad ass good guys who had his back there was no end to the excitement in this one.

While we are told Ty liked to get himself some and he took care of his women the only one we saw was bitch face Misty who Ty spent days(5 years previously) with and who should've been his alibi but bitch face Misty was working with the bad guys all so she could get Detective Chace Keaton.

This is my favorite book in the series with one of my favorite epilogues of all time and also one of my favorite books of all time (pussy references non withstanding) It was emotional, sweet, funny and wonderfully written. I'm not sure why the phrase "mama" isn't used in more romance books because I melted every damn time I heard it but then again not every romance hero is Ty Walker so it's best to leave that endearment here. All in all this was as much a pleasure to reread now as it was on other occasions that I read it!

“Down to my bones, mama, right back at you.” #swooooooooon!!!!!!!!

*I've ever been hopeful that KA would deliver at least a novella with Sam Sterling. I've still got my fingers crossed that at some point that goodness will be delivered.
