Rate this book
This book is no longer available (it was part of Kindle Worlds which was discontinued). It is being re-published under the title Ruthless River.

Laney was a woman on the run. Her ex-husband, who just happened to be a cop, had a penchant for violence and, after Laney took their daughter and ran, he had a promise for revenge. She'd made a new life with a new name and had plans to stay hidden forever, but even the best laid plans go wrong… Forced to rush her daughter to the hospital Laney's location is revealed.

Laney had vowed to never seek help from the man again, until Riser’s 200 pounds of packed muscle made her his own personal mission. He vowed to protect her and her daughter from her ex, but could she trust him with their lives when she'd been burned so badly in the past?

Riser Malone was an admitted adrenaline junkie whose distraction on a crucial mission last year had resulted in complete failure of his objective: protect the girl. Unable to face his failure, Riser accepted every mission put before him, but a lull in the terrorist tempo left him with too much time on his hands back home. He needed a distraction, and he needed it badly.

And that distraction showed up in the form of Laney and her daughter.

With an abusive ex bearing down on her, Riser saw his second chance at redemption. And after one night with her, Riser new his bachelorhood was over, but if he ever had any hope for a relationship with Laney in the future, he'd have to make sure her abusive ex-husband would never harm her again.

My.... My..... My.... and HOLY SHIZ is what I said after I read this story. I needed more from this novella because let me tell you I loved Riser. Riser is a big badarse alpha male that will protect whoever needs to be protected. I felt bad for Laney and her daughter though because abuse is NEVER ever okay but to be abused and then have to go on the run with your child and have to change your whole life is scary but that is Laney's life and she does what she has to in order to protect herself and her daughter.

Once Riser finds out that Laney needs help he is there for her and her daughter. They go through so much but Riser is determined to protect her and keep her safe from her crazy ex-husband. The bullets will fly and the suspense will have you reading like a mad person until the end and once you get there you will need more because Riser is the man! So go ahead and one click this one because it is the BOMB!

I love Riser and his snark and sarcasm. Laney we have met in previous books at Evie's bar, and had no idea she had a child. Dealing with her ex was just meh.

This is my first book by the author, I can see me quickly becoming a fan though. I want to go back and read this series in order from the beginning after meeting Riser.
When Riser lands in the ER and sees a woman struggling to get her child medical treatment he immediately steps in. He knows how to deal with the no insurance no treatment docs and sets them straight getting her little girl the help she needs. Unbeknownst to him he also brings danger right to their door.
It's his fault Laney's psychotic ex found her, now it's his mission to keep her safe until he's out of her life for good.
I loved all the characters, with the exception of medical staff and the ex that is, the story flows well and is highly engaging.
After the first chapter I was hooked. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

You are going to have to suspend all sense of realism is this fast paced story. Aside from that there is drama, action, and chemistry. A woman hiding from a man who abdicated his duty to serve and protect. Laney's ex abused her, she took her child and disappeared. Riser comes to Laney's aid while at the hospital. From there this quick read takes off. I would have enjoyed a longer, more fleshed out version of this story.

Lindsay Cross does it again as she continues to surprise me with amazing stories. Riser Malone may be a mountain of a man, but he sure had the softest heart among the men of Mercy. I'd love a piece of Malone, please.

Riser helped out a lady in need after he saw a doctor callously ignored Laney's pleas to check on her very ill daughter. Little did he know that Laney was actually on the run, hiding from her brutal cop-husband. Laney's identity was compromised when Riser took it upon himself to help her out with the medical forms. and no sooner than later did they find themselves on a hot pursuit, with threats and bullets following their every move.

I've read most of Men of Mercy series and I must say, each story just kept getting better and better. This last one, Riser's Resolve, is currently my favorite, next to Mack Grey and Marley Mitchell's story. I loved how Riser rose to the occasion, how he risked his life for that woman he'd been admiring from afar. My heart cried for Laney and her daughter, I really hate men who abuse and batter their wives just so they could feel manly about themselves. Ugh.

So far, everything Lindsay Cross writes makes me more excited to read the next book. I wonder how she does it, how the ideas easily come to her and weave themselves into stories. Love love love!

Riser’s Resolve by Lindsay Cross
Men of Mercy #12

Riser is in the emergency room after a bar fight that took place in the previous book. He sees a woman with a sick child, realizes he knows the woman who is being given the insurance run-around, steps in to make things right and then is sucked into a situation that requires his skills-set and also impacts him emotionally. What started out as him being helpful ended up putting Laney in danger again but also provided the perfect situation for a romantic suspense novella. It is a quick read with a quick to ignite romance that might not seem believable but then in this type of story I usually consider it romantic fantasy rather than reality ;)

What I liked:
*Riser makes a wonderful book boyfriend
*Laney is a strong woman who puts her daughter first – but also knows what she wants and is willing to do what it takes to get it
*The story mentions characters from previous books that I have enjoyed
*The bad guy gets his comeuppance

What I didn’t like? Can’t really think of anything…

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This happens to be the 12th book in the Men of Mercy series. It also happens to be the first book I have read from this author. The story involves Riser, Laney and her daughter Lily.

Riser over hears a doctor refuse treatment to Lily as they have no insurance. Riser helps and Lily gets the treatment she needs. He still feels guilt over another woman who got kidnapped under his watch.

He vows to protect Laney and her daughter but can he do that this time around?

What I liked most about the book? Riser putting Lily first above all else and keeping her and her mother as safe as he can. The story was great to read and loved the characters.

I hope to be able to read more by this author.

I received a copy of Riser's Resolve from the author and Foreward PR & Marketing in exchange for a voluntary and honest review

Laney is on the run from her ex-husband. She has made a new life for herself and her daughter. When Laney has to get medical help for her daughter. There new life gets more complicated. Riser is use to helping those in need.

I loved this story. I felt for Laney. She was a strong courageous women to leave an abusive relationship. You could not help but have compassion for her. Riser goes out of his way to help her. I would be leary too but what choice did she have. Riser was her knight in shining armor coming to help her. This story was action packed and you could only hope she would get a happy ending.

I am always drawn to military romances. They are one of my go-to's when I want to read about an ALPHA man saving a woman.

Ms. Cross did not disappoint with any of that in Riser's Resolve. Riser took care of Laney and Lily when they both needed him the most: getting them away from Laney's husband.

This is my second book by Ms. Cross, I look forward to reading more.

Loving hot alpha meets his match

Hot alphas with a kickass attitude towards a damsel in distress, danger, real life issues, that plot does it for me. Nth is is a great story, Riser-military, and his lady have been dancing around their attraction for months. So when he sees her several towns away with her little girl, who's suck and the doctor is giving her grief about treating her, he has to step in. Excellent story.

Loved it! I love all the Men of Mercy books. Riser's is no different, I love his too.

Laney has been working at the bar in Mercy and is skittish, clearly a side effect of trauma. (That is from a previous book.)

Laney is now sitting in the hospital with her very sick little girl, Lily. When Riser hears her voice he steps in as the doctor is refusing to treat Lily since there is no insurance. Riser puts a stop to that immediately. But the background of why is unknown to Riser and the doctor. And when Riser messes up later it could put them both in jeopardy.

Riser hasn't noticed Laney in an attraction way nor did he know she has a daughter. He still reeling from his letting Caroline Cotter getting kidnapped when he's at the ER getting stitched up from a bar fight when he hears Laney's voice and decides to step in.

When things go from bad to the worst Riser promises he will protect Laney and Lily with his life if he has to. And he might just have to.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This story had so much potential. I loved Riser in the previous stories and looked forward to learning more about him. I don't mind if there’s insta-love, as long as we get some background and a good story to go with it. This one could have been so, so good, but everything happened too fast. I think Riser deserved a story that spanned more than just a night.

Riser comes to Laney's rescue when she has rushed her daughter to the hospital, and the staff is refusing treatment because she has no insurance. Right off the bat I’m pissed because you do not refuse someone emergency care because of no insurance--no way. The doctor and nurse both needed a lesson in humility and humanity.

I'm not surprised Riser stepped in to help someone in distress because he has such a soft heart and has constantly been there for everyone else. However, Riser unknowingly does something that alerts her abusive husband, the cop, to where Laney is. But how else would he be able to track her down, right?! I know this was a way to get things moving, and in turn, allowing Riser to go into protection mode, so…

Anyway, they’re fleeing the police together and heads to his cabin to hide out. Laney showers, has a good cry, then she and Riser engage in some rumpling between the sheets. I don't know how she does it because if I had to leave my three-year old baby in the hospital in the middle of emergency surgery, and having no idea if she's okay or not, I’d be a total wreck!!

Still, Riser is the best thing about this book. His kindness, understanding, compassion, fierce protection...the way he cared and stood up for Laney...the way he was willing to truly fight for her safety was so swoony.

Laney is not so bad herself. At least she had sense enough to get her daughter away from her abusive father. And she is definitely a fighter! She'd do anything to protect her child.

Buuuuut, Laney then has an unbelievable TSTL moment and gets herself caught up with that scum-of-the-earth husband of hers, Mark. Then here's where it gets confusing for me. How did they end up back at the hospital?! I thought Mark managed to get away with Laney down the road and onto the highway?! They ended up in a wreck, Laney talks Riser down from killing her husband…then they’re walking through the hospital doors?! How?! I didn't read anywhere that they got in a vehicle of any sort, or put Mark in one. I'm so lost on that part.

Then it’s all over much too soon. Again, I wish Riser had gotten a longer story because he truly is an amazing hero and just the best person ever. There was so much more about him, and his relationship with Laney that could have been explored.

Laney is a young mom with a 3 year old daughter who is very sick. The hospital ER is denying treatment since they have no insurance. Riser is a military man - Special Forces, SEAL, Ranger, something along those lines but he's evasive about that when Laney asks. He makes the doctor examine the little girl, who needs an emergency appendectomy. in the chaos, a nurse tells Riser that Laney didn't fill out all the paperwork so he uses information in her wallet to do it for her, thinking he is helping. Of course, this alerts Laney's abusive police officer ex husband to her location and all hell breaks loose.

The synopsis sounded good, so I went into this book with high hopes. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. First of all, this is a very short book. It could easily be 2 chapters of a full length novel, and honestly a longer book would have made this a better story. The entire story takes place in one evening, except for a short epilogue set 3 months later. As it is now, things get a little ridiculous.

First, though, I'll say what I *did* like. Laney is a great mom and a fighter. She will do anything to keep her daughter safe, including going head to head with the hospital staff.

The parts I didn't like, though? I'm sorry, but that's a lot. The very first thing that made my mouth fall open with disbelief (in a "there is no way that would ever happen" way) was when, less than 2 hours after her daughter was rushed away for emergency surgery, then a police chase and all the fear for her daughter's health and both their lives, Laney practically jumps Riser and they sleep together. As a mother, and one whose child had unplanned surgery, I can tell you there is no way on Earth Laney can put aside that gut-clenching fear and worry and start banging the guy she barely knows, complete with multiple orgasms. Especially since they had to run while her daughter was still in surgery and she doesn't know how it went. Granted, they weren't strangers, but the extent of their prior knowledge of each other was first names only, since she was a bartender in a bar he frequented. My other big dislike was the instalove. It's no secret I hate instalove, but under these circumstances it's eye-rollingly awful. There is no way that either one of them, with their backgrounds and baggage, suddenly got over all their issues overnight, especially not this night.

Like I said earlier, if this was a longer book and the plot and characters were better fleshed out, this could be really good. But this... it just isn't.

This is the love story of Riser and Laney. Laney works at the Bar with Cheri but unbeknownst to everyone she has a child and is also married. However, after suffering continuous abuse from her husband, who is in law enforcement, she left him and has been hiding with her daughter. Unfortunately after days of a fever, she is forced to take her daughter to the hospital. There she sees Riser and he helps her to get the medical attention for her daughter that she desperately needs. On finding out that she needs surgery, Riser takes it upon himself to help her out and give the hospital her information, not realising the ramifications of his actions.

Afterwards she tells Riser what happened to her and he resolves to keep her and her daughter safe. They flee the scene and call in help when they need it from Bo and Cheri.

Great action, suspense and romance between Laney and Riser and a wonderful story of mother and daughter love. Look forward to more from Lindsay as she rocks the military genre!!

Thank you to Lindsay for my advanced copy for which I leave my honest review.

Great story! Guilt is holding Riser Mallon in a vice, he must find a way to redeem himself before he can truly move on with his life. Laney Browder is hiding with her daughter Lily from her abusive husband who just so happens to be a dirty cop but still a cop. After first abuse she went to her husbands’ partner and told him about it, the partner said, that’s just the way it was that Mark had a stressful job and she needed to let him relieve his stress on her. So, Laney has been hiding off the grid working for cash at a bar and doing everything with cash, no credit cards, nothing just to be safe and keep her daughter safe.
Lily gets sick and Laney takes her to the ER a couple of towns away from where she lives. The ER doctor is trying to get them to leave because she doesn’t have insurance. That’s when Riser Mallon steps up to start his white knight role, he talks to the director and suddenly Lily is being taken back to be checked. Riser’s in the ER because he was out with his buddies and they were in a bar fight and he was stabbed in the side. Angry because the hospital was going to try to turn away a very sick little girl, he makes sure she is taken care of especially when she is taken to emergency surgery for an appendicitis.
Riser inadvertently provides the ER with Laney’s information, not knowing that she was on the run from her ex. And drama begins, the ER staff notify the police that they have a possible kidnapper and victim in the ER and that’s when Laney tells Riser about her ex, Mark Browder abused her and she took it until it looked like he was going after her daughter, then she took Lily and ran. Mark being a cop found her once and beat her badly, Laney finally escaped him. Mark put a kidnapping warrant out for her, so he can find her if something like this were to happen. If her ex finds her, he'll kill her.
Riser feeling horrible about outing her, helps her escape the police that are now at the hospital searching for her. With the help of their local sheriff, Bo Lawson a by the books lawman who hates dirty cops and anyone who abuses their wife and or kids.
With a call from the hospital telling Laney that Lily is in a serious situation and they need her back at the hospital, she doesn’t think twice about it she leaves Riser sleeping, takes his truck an heads for the hospital, she knows it probably a trap but when the nurse says her daughter could die, she races to the hospital without a second thought. Riser wakes up when he hears his truck start up and knows something is wrong, that someone must have contacted Laney and she's headed back to the hospital. Riser calls Aaron Speirs from his team Task Force Scorpion (TF-S), a branch of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) based out of Ft. Grenada, MS, Aaron jumped at the chance to teach a lesson to an abuser, so Riser directed him to head to the hospital to keep an eye on Mark and to help protect Laney when she gets there, he's on his way.
Laney gets to the hospital and Mark grabs her and beats her in the parking lot and throws her in his car and takes off he plans on punishing her and tells her all about it. Laney is on the verge of being unconscious, when Mark say’s that he will just have to take his stress out on Lily, she attacks him from the back seat of the SUV clawing at him, there is nothing like a woman protecting her child! They crash and as they do Riser comes upon them and pulls Laney out of the crumpled SUV, he wants nothing more than to kill Mark for what he has just done to Laney, her face and body show the signs of the beating Mark gave her.
Laney must talk Riser down from this rage or she knows that she will lose what they have just found with each other.
Mark is sent to prison not only for his abuse of his wife but for selling drugs on the side of his police job, he’s getting 20+ years. Laney and Lily move in with Riser who is still her white knight but the love of her life. Lily loves and adores him and he does her also.
Great read, the issue with the hospital bothered me, everyone should receive medical are regardless if they can pay for it now or not, also the abuse from a cop on his wife and kids makes me very angry, the police should be held to a higher standard and monitored so that we can all be safe from the dirty cops out there.

He needs to be ruthless to protect an innocent from her abusive ex…

Despite the fact that RUTHLESS RIVER is a fast-paced, page-turning story (I so wanted more of this story) - it still gifts you a beautiful and heart touching story for Riser and Laney, and her beautiful daughter, Lily. RUTHLESS RIVER Bk 6.6 in the Men of Mercy series, delivers high speed suspense, drama and intrigue… this time the stakes are extremely personal, rather than a Task Force Scorpion assignment.

Get ready for Riser, no matter that he’s already sporting his own injuries, he’ll be on his A game, absolutely ruthless in protecting this innocent lady and her child from the abusiveness and power of her ex husband. Just maybe, in doing so can make amends and find redemption from his own guilt and past error’s in judgement.

Both character’s have baggage… for some that baggage is abusive and potentially deadly. You do whatever it takes to remain hidden. Until a medical emergency and the unwitting help from a stranger in the hospital exposes your hidden identity…time has suddenly run out.

Riser has always noticed Laney when he’s been at the bar where she is working but pushes those thoughts aside for easier pickings. He sees that she is the forever type and that’s the last thing he is looking for when all he is wanting is to resolve and amend the past. It’s an act of kindness and help in an emergency with her child, and finding out her background that forever changes everything for Riser.

Lindsay Cross constantly brings you stories that are not only filled with that romantic suspense and intriguing drama… but stories that touch your heart and raise awareness at the injustices people can face in their time of need. For those that love the heroism, military-bearing alpha male, those that will give their all to protect and love… RUTHLESS RIVER is such a beautiful, intense story for you to be swept away.

Riser's Resolve was a quick read, but full of action and heart.

Riser still feels guilt over losing the woman he was supposed to protect, even though they got their man, knowing she's still out there somewhere having suffered bothers him. So when he comes across single mom, Laney, in an emergency room, he can't help but to assist her and her child. When he discovers the secrets she's been hiding, there's more he needs to do, but Riser's determined to protect her and get her through it.

Laney doesn't trust men, for good reason, she's been let down by too many. But when she finds herself in the hospital with a sick child, she's not going to turn down anyone who gets her help, espeically not the blonde soldier she knows little about. Something about Riser speaks to her, but not enough to earn her trust fully - until she's got no choice but to lay it on the line.

As Riser helps Laney, they grow closer and discover that maybe there is something between them than either of them expected. There's more to their connection than Riser just trying to quell the guilt he carries from the previous mission.

Riser's Resolve is full of action, suspense, and two characters who've been through a lot finding someone to trust and work together with, that bond growing into something more. The story is emotional, Laney's been through a lot but she's worked hard and put her daughter first above all else but when she breaks down, Riser's there to show her that not all men fail to protect, or do the duty they signed on for.

**I received a copy of Riser's Resolve from the author and Foreward PR & Marketing in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**

Riser's Resolve by Lindsay Cross is book 12 in her Men of Mercy series. I've had the pleasure of reading each one and have to say that she just gets better each and every time. This story features Riser and Laney and her daughter Lily.

Riser still feels the guilt from the loss of a team mate in a fire fight and also Caroline Cotter but when he sees Laney holding a very ill Lily at the ER. He knows he must protect her as well as getting her the medical help for Lily. When he accidentally gives the nurse her real name, it will set off warning bells for her abusive ex-husband putting them both at risk. He does the only thing he's really good at, protecting her at all costs while taking her on the run. If you've read any of the previous books you'll recognize Bo, Cheri and the twins and know that they protect those they love.

Laney is on the run from her abusive husband, Mark, who has threatened her and now Lily with bodily harm if he gives him. He also has a network of ears and eyes just waiting her her to slip up so that he can find her and their daughter. But when her child falls very ill she know her days of hiding are over. She also knows that if he catches her this time it may be her last. Riser and Laney know each other from the bar in Mercy where she works But when they give into their attraction it will be a wild ride and one she hopes will last forever.

Will Laney and Riser be able to survive her ex and become a family that they all crave? I highly recommend this book and its a great addition to the Men of Mercy series.

Riser's Resolve by Lindsay Cross is definitely a stand-alone. Fans of the series will love seeing Riser fall head over heels, something he vowed never to do. For those who are not familiar with the series, this is a great way to meet one of the team. Other than a couple of other brief appearances by some others this is strictly Riser’s story while he is home from a mission. The overall theme concerning a now decreased villain and a kidnapped woman is mentioned but is not part of the story.
Riser helps a woman in need while falling in love with her and small her daughter. The issues of trust are hard won for him because of an abusive ex. It may seem like an instant attraction between Riser and Laney but it is clear Riser frequented the place of Laney’s work for a year so they knew each other. The events of this novella happen rapidly over a couple of days making this an action packed fast moving story. The epilogue is the icing on the cake of their story.
Riser's Resolve is a great way to introduce yourself to Lindsay’s Cross’ Men of Mercy Series or for the series fans to see another member of the team find their true love. A little less than 100 pages, it is the perfect read when you need a true hero because Riser and Laney both are that.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book.

What a fantabulous crossover between two of my favourite military romance authors!

Laney is a caring mother, on the run protecting her daughter (and herself) from the fists and temper of her abusive ex. Complicating matters is the fact that he is a cop and has tarred her as a kidnapper! She has escaped his clutches so far but when her daughter is in need if urgent care she finds getting help is a bit of a struggle.

Enter Riser. He has been crushing on Laney for a while. She tended bar at is favourite watering hole but he always knew she was a forever kinda girl and just wasn't ready for that. But when he steps in to make sure her daughter gets the care she needs he inadvertently alerts her ex to her location.

When he realises what he has done Riser refuses to allow another female under his care get hurt and manages to spirit Laney away. But can he protect her from an ex with the power of law enforcement behind him?

Laney and Riser are such a great couple. My only gripe was I wanted more! It is short but packs a powerful punch a great storyline tying together domestic, emotional and physical abuse. There is even a little glimpse of Duke, who is quickly turning into an awesome character.

In this Men of Mercy Novella, I was pleasantly surprised by what I read. It definitely fits in with the rest of the Men of Mercy series of books. Watching as a woman and her child are sitting in an emergency room, getting no response from a doctor because she cannot produce an insurance card with her sick child on her lap, Riser steps up and talks to the doctor. What does he say? What happens after his 'conversation'? Why is he even there? Who is he there with? What is going on with the Men of Mercy? Does Riser know the woman that he's helping? When the nurse comes in after the child is taken to surgery, asking for more information, what does Riser do all in the guise of trying to help? What conundrum does this cause for the woman? What does he realize when she starts freaking out after the nurse comes over, using her name? When she gets a call from the hospital after being dashed to safety by Riser, what happens? You'll have to read this story to see what happens and how Riser falls like the other Men of Mercy. It was a pure treat to watch. I hope to see more of him in the future.

I like this series a lot...I would love it and give it a five star rating if it was better edited and proofread.

First the negatives:

Extra words, missing words and wrong words sometimes make these frustrating reads. There's a lack of consistency that I find incredibly annoying. For example, in the "dossier" at the beginning of each book, Mack Grey is listed as a captain. However, throughput the series, he's a colonel. Sometimes his name is spelled with a k, sometimes without. Sometimes Riser's last name is Mallon, sometimes it's Mallone or Malone. Sometimes the wrong character is used in a sentence. Things like this are irritating to the reader, but the fault lies more with the editor than with the author.

Now for the positives:

AWESOME characters! The character development is exceptional. The men and women in these stories come to life. I love that strong alpha males meet strong alpha women...and that those women hold their own with the men and don't become simpering, fragile flowers in their presence.

The plot lines are amazing: believable, fast-paced and the primary thread - the hunt for the evil Agent J - is carried through well.

If Lindsay Cross had a better editor and/or proofreader, this series would get five stars from me!

**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book**

I absolutely love anything Lindsay Cross writes and Riser's Resolve just further proved that this woman can write nothing wrong in my eyes!

Laney will do whatever it takes to protect her daughter. On the run from an abusive ex who has the backing of the police force never guaranteed an easy life for these two. But when a sickness puts her daughter in the hospital she knows it's only a matter of time before her ex finds her and comes running. Going against everything she promised herself when she left, she turns to Riser to help.

Riser just need a quick stitch up after a bar fight. He never expected to be the one helping Laney get service for her daughter and protecting her from her ex. Riser may believe he isn't good enough for Laney and her daughter, but he will stop at nothing to protect what he has already deemed his.

I'm so sad that this is the end of the Men of Mercy Series, but I am glad we will get the chance to see a few of these guys again in the spin-off series. I can't wait for Caroline to finally get rescued!

I have read almost all of the books that Lindsay Cross has written. She has a distinct writing style and Ruthless River was another good book in her Men of Mercy series. Ruthless River is Riser's story. He's one of the team members and has been quite the loner throughout the series. His confidence has been shaken since Caroline Cotter was taken under his watch. Even though it wasn't his fault he continues to blame himself. While at the hospital getting stitches for a knife wound, he runs into Laney the waitress from the bar that he frequents. He doesn't know much about her other than she seems too sweet for the likes of him. Laney has been in hiding with her daughter and the only reason that she's out is due to her child being ill. She's on the run from an abusive ex and her daughter's safety is her number one priority. These two were mostly strangers when their story begins but they will bond together to keep Laney and her daughter safe. Ruthless River is told from dual POV and it stands alone but I always recommend reading a series in order because of the other characters and storyline. It's a quick action packed story with some steam too!

This is the story of Riser Malone. Riser never got over his mission failure to protect a woman, Caroline. Now he mets Laney, a woman on the run from her abusive ex-husband who is also a cop. When Laney is forced to take her daughter to the hospital she meets Riser who is also there in the ER seeking treatment. His protective side comes forth when he sees that she is having trouble getting her daughter seen by a doctor. Riser is determined to help this woman, especially since he still feels guilt over his previous failure to protect a woman. When Laney's location is unwittingly revealed the story quickly gets exciting.

Once again this author delivers an exciting, suspenseful and fast paced story. It also has some steamy hot sexy romance! It gets very intense and will pull on your emotions, as it pulled on mine. The story is very well written with loads of drama, intensity and suspense that moves at a very good pace. The characters are complex and very lovable. This book has it all! Lindsay's books never disappoint. Very highly recommended.
