Celebrate Mother's Day with freebies, specials for mom
Sunday is the day to give moms a break from cooking.
Several restaurants want to help you honor mom and save you a little money by offering free treats and discounts.
One of the best deals is available regardless of where you take mom for a Mother’s Day meal.
Cashback app Ibotta is having its first-ever “Mimosa for Mom” rebate and when mom orders a mimosa you can earn $5 back through the smartphone shopping program.
“This Mother’s Day, Ibotta wants to toast moms who are always putting others’ needs before their own,” said Ibotta founder and CEO Bryan Leach in a news release. “Today is their day, so we’re asking them to sit back, relax and enjoy a mimosa on us.”
Starting at midnight Sunday, the special rebate will be available on the app under the “Restaurants and Bar” category. Tap the “Mimosa for Mom” rebate and have a mimosa at any bar or restaurant.
After the purchase, upload the receipt in the app to get $5 cash back. Receipts need to be itemized to show a mimosa was ordered.
Once you earn $20 in cashback through the app, you can transfer money to a PayPal or Venmo account or choose a select gift card.
In addition to earning cashback on mimosas and other alcoholic drinks, use Ibotta to earn cashback on groceries and household items at stores including Target, Walmart, Publix, CVS, Walgreens, Lowe’s and Home Depot. Also earn money back on select online purchases.

Bass Pro Shops: What mom doesn’t love a picture of her kids? From noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, get a free 4-by-6-inch photo at the outdoors store. Plus, on Sunday, the first 100 get a free tote bag with photo, limit one tote per family. Learn more here.
Boston Market: Get $5 off a family meal for four or more on Mother’s Day with this coupon. Plus, every mom who dines on Mother’s Day will receive a coupon for a free cookie on her next visit to any participating locations, redeemable May 15-31.
Duffy's Sports Grill: Moms get a free glass of wine and a $10 MVP bonus added to their loyalty account, which can be redeemed May 15 through June 17. Go here to learn more about the MVP program.
First Watch: Moms get a free box of chocolates on Mother’s Day while supplies last.
Hooters: Moms choose a free meal from a special Mother’s Day menu with any drink purchase at participating locations. Free menu item options may vary by location and many also will present moms with a coupon to redeem May 15 through June 9. Learn more here.
Hurricane Grill & Wings: Buy one entrée with a minimum purchase of $8.99 and mom gets a free entrée of equal or lesser value up to a $16.99 value. This deal requires the purchase of two beverages. Find participating locations here.
McDonald’s: At participating South Florida locations, moms get a free breakfast, including a breakfast sandwich or breakfast extra value meal with their choice of a small orange juice, coffee or soft drink. No purchase is necessary for this dine-in only deal available during breakfast hours but mothers must be accompanied by a child and order in the lobby. McDonald’s outside Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast may have other Mother’s Day offers so check with your closest McDonald’s for more information.
Miller’s Ale House: Moms who dine-in at participating locations get a free glass of house wine or a Bloody Mary plus a $10 bonus card, which can be redeemed May 15 through Aug. 31. A meal purchase is required to get the freebies.
Ruth Chris Steak House: Moms who dine in Saturday and Sunday will get a $25 credit to use on a future purchase through July 2. Select locations will have specials on Sunday.
PDQ: Moms get a free combo meal with the purchase of one kids meal at participating locations. Go here to find a PDQ near you.
Pilot Flying J: From May 14 through 20, mom gets a free cup of Pilot Coffee when they show a coupon from Pilot Flying J’s Facebook page.
Pollo Tropical: Text MOM2017 to 52198 to get a coupon for a whole chicken, rice and beans and four rolls for $9.99 to use through May 14. Email club members also got a coupon emailed. Sign up for future offers here.
Smoothie King: Members of Smoothie King’s email club were sent an email coupon for $2.99 20-ounce smoothies to redeem only on Mother’s Day. Go here to sign up for future offers.
Starbucks: This deal isn’t just for moms. Sunday is the last day of Frappuccino Happy Hour. Visit a participating Starbucks store from 3 to 6 p.m. to get half-off Frappuccino blended beverages, any flavor and any size.
Tijuana Flats: Moms get a free entrée on Mother’s Day when they show this Facebook post or an email coupon sent to members of the Tex-Mex restaurant’s Flathead email club. Go here to sign up for future offers.
Winn-Dixie: The grocery store chain is having a contest to honor military moms. Through midnight May 14, customers can nominate moms by submitting 200 words or less on why she deserves to be recognized. Submit entries to militarymoms@segrocers.com. Three winning moms will receive a Beauty Basket and $200 Winn-Dixie gift card. Winners will be selected on May 15 and announced on the company’s Facebook page.
