West Ham will battle Southampton to sign Arsenal's Theo Walcott on loan for the rest of the season, according to reports.

The Gunners winger has a year left on his £120,000-a-week contract, but he has not started a single Premier League game this season.

And the Express report that the Hammers are ready to end his Arsenal misery by making a loan bid for the England international.

David Moyes is keen to reshape his squad in the January transfer window, and the 28-year-old is reportedly on his shortlist alongside Newcastle's Jonjo Shelvey, Stoke City's Joe Allen and Swansea defender Alfie Mawson.

The report also claims Walcott's former club Southampton are in the running for his signature, with under-pressure manager Mauricio Pellegrino badly in need of reinforcements.

Theo Walcott has only started in the cup competitions

Walcott started his career at the south coast side, making 21 appearances before moving to Arsenal at the age of 16.

But whether he would want to leave London to return to the Saints is not clear.

West Ham fans took to social media to react to the rumours of Walcott making the switch to East London.
