According to The Mirror’s Live Blog (entry posted 14:35), Southampton are confident of breaking their transfer record for the £30 million signing of Liverpool target Quincy Promes.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old attacker in the past and it looks like fans of the Anfield club are gutted to be missing out.

Speaking to The Guardian, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp described the Dutchman as a “proper striker” back in December and compared him to Sadio Mane, before his side thumped Promes’s Spartak Moscow 7-0 in the Champions League.

As it goes, The Liverpool Echo reported on Wednesday that the Rusian giants are interested in signing forgotten man Lazar Markovic, who hasn’t played for the Reds since 2015.

And some fans of the Merseyside club believe this represents a unique opportunity for them to swap the £20 million Brendan Rodgers signing for Promes before his Southampton transfer materialises.

With 10 goals in 16 Russian Premier League games this season, Promes really is a brilliant winger and one who could add something to Klopp’s attack.

But it looks like they are destined to miss out, unless the German manager gets creative and accepts the fans’ idea of a swap deal.
