Position Description

The Administrative Assistant IV communicates with the public both, by telephone and in person, and provides general information pertaining to permit requirements, application submittals, and status requests. The incumbent works under supervision of the Office Manager of the Permit Office of the Harris County Engineering Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides information required to assist in completion of required forms for issuance of permits and licenses.
  • Accepts permit applications and reviews the submittal to determine if all required supporting documents are included.
  • Responsible for data entry, record keeping and data maintenance related to the issuance of permits.
  • Prepares permit files for transmittal to the Records Clerk.
  • If previously approved, may assist with the cashier duties of collecting fees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Must take the HRRM "Clerical Skills Test" and score a minimum of 85% with a typing speed of 35 WPM and 90% accuracy.

  • A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of clerical/office work experience or Military Service.
  • Experience or background in Building Design, Construction, Real Property, or other closely related field.
  • Knowledge of regulatory agencies and their impact on Architecture/Engineering Planning.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must possess excellent customer service and strong oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • The ability to learn department supported application programs shortly after hire is strongly desired.

Physical Requirements:
  • This position requires bending, stooping and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds, frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and ascending/descending stairs.

SALARY:
