A new study has revealed Birmingham is the safest city to drive in in the UK.

The research reveals just how dangerous it is to drive in Brum compared to other cities in the UK and around the world.

The annual 2019 Driving Cities Index, which creates a league table for destinations around the globe based on road safety, has ranked Birmingham as the best out of 10 UK cities.

Researchers from Mister Auto UK took into account a series of factors to rate each city with a score.

Each location was analysed by the car accident fatality rate and incorporated research focusing on road rage incidents.

Air quality and the number of cars on the roads, congestion levels ,motoring costs and the quality of local public transport, were all taken into account.

For the UK, Birmingham topped the list as the safest place to drive, with low levels of congestion, high road quality and petrol affordability.

While London was ranked bottom for Britain and 77th globally, with high levels of congestion, poor air quality and high fuel costs.

The overall safest city was Calgary in Canada, with a perfect score of 100 owing to its free-flowing traffic, high air quality and low motoring costs.

And the most dangerous city in the world was revealed as Mumbai in India, with a score of just 1 out of 100 - due to extremely high levels of congestion, poor air quality, high numbers of road rage incidents and high mortality rates.
