Some seem to be having a whale of a time. Others, grinning for the camera, or caught in "gotcha" embarrassing moment. Yet, although they all seem so "human," they are wild animals immortalized in photos for the 2018 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.

A demure lemur covering its mouth in surprise, a seal having a hard time facing bullying penguins, dancing polar bears and straddling squirrels are among the amusing entries from across the world chosen as finalists by the jury.

Founded by Tanzania-based British. photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks  and Tom Sullam, the award aims to raise awareness of wildlife conservation through the power of laughter.

"We are all about conservation," write the organizers. "We want you to take up our banner of wildlife conservation, bang the drum, beat the cymbal and make some noise. We need to spread the word: Wildlife, as we know it, is in danger all over the world and we need to do something to help save it. You can start by going and having a look at what the Born Free Foundation is doing at www.bornfree.org.uk."

The deadline to submit entries for the competition is June 30, 2018.

Entrants can submit up to three images in each category and up to two video clips of no longer than 60 seconds in the video clip category. The winner will be named the 2018 Comedy Wildlife Photographer of the Year and win a weeklong safari with Alex Walker's Serian in Kenya’s Masai Mara.

The competition is open until June 30.
