Revealed Secrets of Marble

Marble is turning up everywhere from counter top to faux panels for the wall. Which is understandable because of how amazing they look and they are super affordable. But before you add the beautiful rock to your house, there are a few things a person needs to know about having marble in the house. So here are some secrets about your marble counters, faux panels or whatever you are putting marble on.

First, marble is highly porous which makes it a high-maintenance surface. If something like wine or oil is spilled on the surface then it will seep into the marble and when this happens it can be extremely difficult to get out. So, it is super important that you get all your marble professionally sealed once it is installed to protect it and around every six months, get it resealed. But sealing does not necessarily prevent all damages but it is a big help. But for those stains that happen and you cannot get out, try using a cloth dripped into a mixture of a few drops of Ammonia and ½ cup of hydrogen peroxide and wipe repeatedly until the stain is gone.

Even though marble is a very beautiful rock, one has to be prepared to receive some scratches. Due to it being much softer than other stones. So, there is no way of preventing them but here are a few tips to get less of them. Do not cut lemons or any acidic food on marble because the acid wears down the sealant and that can open it up to more scratches. Or you can use a matte finish which gives the marble a less polished effect but it can make scratches less noticeable but there is no way to totally prevent scratches from happening.

Marble counters and faux panels are for people who do not mind the hard work. Even though marble is a perfect stone that can be paired perfectly with any metallic mental and goes with a lot of different styles, it has a hard up keep. If a person is looking for an easy wipe once and be done counter top then this is not the right one for them.

Marble can fit into any price range, one just has to know what they are looking for. Sadly, the marble that appears on social media probably is not the most affordable one. Calacatta marble is usually the higher price one and is whiter and has more defined veins. A good rule to follow is the whiter one with the most dramatic veins is the most expensive marble. In contrast, a much grayer version with softer veins will have a lower price tag. Carrara marble from Carrara, Italy is usually going to have a lower cost and is usually readily available.

The final secret about marble is that it is heat resistant but one should still be careful when handling hot things on the surface. Sine the surface is heat resistant, it’s perfect for kitchens that do a lot of baking. The surface even stays cool when it is super-hot outside and is safe to the touch. But even with this ability, a person should never put piping hot pots on the surface because it can burn or add discoloring to the marble. It is recommended to always use pot holders.
