STARK images have emerged of a Lenzie home in ruins after it was engulfed in a raging inferno following a freak lightning strike last night.

The property on Corn Mill Road, Woodilee, was hit by a bolt of lightning while unsuspecting Frank Malcolm and his family were watching TV.

Devastated Frank told last night how he had "lost his whole house" after the blaze tore through the roof - just seven months after the family moved in.

It came amid a barrage of weather carnage last night as Scots battled flash floods, thunder, hail and even SNOW.

Today pictures show how the entire upper floor of the property has been ravaged, while debris litters the family garden.

One image shows the traces of family life - a child's slide and a washing line - left among roof tiles.

Lenzie house struck by lightning causing massive inferno leads to fundraiser created by generous neighbours to raise £5,000 for shattered family

Frank said last night: “The first I knew anything was wrong was when the TV went off and the electric tripped.

“I went round turning off all the power sockets.

“I went upstairs to do the same and I could hear crackling in the roof then I noticed smoke under the eaves.

“By then the doorbell was ringing and it was a neighbour saying ‘get out, your house is on fire’.

“I got my wife and two kids and we got out.

“The roof was on fire.”

A fire brigade source at the scene confirmed that the fire was started by lightning.

It tore through the roof and upstairs of the house before being extinguished.

A spokesman for the SFRS said: “We are in attendance. We received a call that a house in Kirkintilloch was struck by lightning at 5.45pm on Saturday evening.

“There are no reports of any casualties and we are still at the scene.”

A crowdfunding page for the Malcolm family has since been launched which has raised over £2,000 in just 24 hours.

One member of the public who donated wrote: “Such an awful experience.

“Hopefully the support from the fundraiser will help with the immediate necessities and you can be back home as soon as possible.”
