Commerce Ministry organises workshop on protecting competition

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion today organised a workshop in complementation of a public awareness campaign titled “Together for Ensuring Freedom of Competition”.

The workshop sought to enlighten consumers, traders and investors about the provisions of the law on protecting competition, preventing monopoly, combating dumping and forging compensatory measures and free pricing principles.

The workshop was held at the premises of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) in Muscat. Its opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Sayyid Saud Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat.

The campaign constitutes a link in a series of steps to regulate the freedom to practice economic activities and enforce the principle of free market.

The workshop was attended by Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, Faisal Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OCCI, several businesspeople, investors and media persons.

The Centre for Competition Protection and Monopoly Prevention investigates cases of monopoly and prohibited practices. The Centre studies applications for economic concentration and receives complaints and reports on commercial malpractices.
