SCOTLAND is gearing up for thunderstorms and floods heading into midweek.

It looks set to be 'taps on', hoods up weather as England's lightning and rain threatens to ruin the scorching weather from the weekend.

The Bank Holiday heat remains sizzling today and tomorrow, however, with Monday somehow looking even hotter than Sunday's sunshine.

It is to beat out Sunday's 26.8C that saw tens of thousands of delighted Scots basking in the heat and enjoying their bevvy gardens all over the country.

And, despite the stormy prediction, 22C-25C highs should continue throughout the week.

Met Office forecaster Emma Sillitoe said: "Thunderstorms are likely on Wednesday in eastern Scotland, and on Wednesday night more widespread across Scotland.

"More warnings are likely and we could see flooding. But Scotland stays hot with sunny spells seeing 25C on Tuesday and still 23C on Thursday."

Meanwhile cheeky Scots who have been bunking off have cost the country a whopping £15million.

A study from Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development research revealed that sick days cost the economy £12million per working day - with the hot weather causing a spike.

We told you earlier how at least two inches of rain is set to fall across parts of Wales and Southern England.

While temperatures remain high, the Met Office has issued a yellow alert warning sporadic outbreaks of extreme weather are likely.

The weather warnings have been extended until 8pm tonight, and forecasters have warned that homes and businesses could be flooded in flash downpours.
