THE mum of death crash tot Harlow Edwards has pledged £500 towards a headstone for a tragic baby smothered by her teddy bear.

Kind-hearted Sara Edwards vowed to help grieving Dexy-Leigh Walsh’s £6,500 fundraising bid for the monument for daughter Connie Rose, 18 months.

In a Facebook message to the family, Sara — whose toddler, two, was killed by a texting driver — said: “More than happy to help for this wee angel.”

Dexy-Leigh has praised Sara, 37, of Coupar Angus, Perthshire, saying: “She’s a lovely person. She’s waiting on me picking the headstone maker.”

We told how Connie suffocated in March when the 2ft cuddly toy her mum placed to stop her falling out of bed ended up on top of her.

Her mum said afterwards: “I’ve been blaming myself.”

Heartbroken Dexy-Leigh, of Linlathen, Dundee, set up a GoFundMe page for the grave tribute.

She told us: “Connie deserves a beautiful headstone.

"I’ve been quoted £6,500 from two makers — I know it’s a lot but it’s the last thing I’m ever going to be able to buy her and I want to make it special.”

A fun day with a bouncy castle, face painter and raffles is planned for June 24 at the city’s Fairfield Sports and Social Club to raise the cash.

Dexy-Leigh’s sister Jordan, 20, said: “The loss of Connie has had a massive impact on the whole family but most importantly on Dexy, Connie’s stepdad Murray and Connie’s big sister Dior.

“Connie was such a beautiful, clever healthy baby girl, always smiling and loved to dance her little bum off.”
