Sonia Anderson may be young, but the highly recommended bodyguard is well trained and expertly skilled. She’s more than up to the task of her new job, protecting Amy North. Of course, no employment psych evaluation could ever reveal the skeletons in Sonia’s painful past…or the secret scars born of a world out of her control.

As James North’s longtime bodyguard, Matthew Carter misses nothing. He’s a man in complete command of his skills, his body, his heart. Since causing the death of his wife—a fellow ex-MI5 agent—his guilt keeps his emotions in check…until he finds a kindred spirit in Sonia.

When two pained souls come together, they’ll either help each other heal…or hurt each other beyond repair.

Nestled in the tranquil rural landscape near London, I'm a British author whose journey from the world of accounting to the realm of writing has been nothing short of transformative. While I occasionally revisit my numbers-oriented past, my days are predominantly filled with the harmonious dance between crafting compelling narratives and tending to my cherished family—my husband, two children, and a lively household of four cats and one dog
.
In those rare leisure moments, you'll find me lost in the enchanting world of poetry, delighting in the creation (and indulgence) of decadent cakes or fervently capturing moments through the lens of my camera.

Writing emerged as my beacon of hope in navigating the labyrinth of depression and anxiety. My insatiable love for literature and the boundless horizon of travel infuses my tales with the rich tapestry of my adventures. I strive to breathe life into my stories with an air of authenticity that resonates with readers.

Within the pages of my books, you'll encounter heroes exuding charisma and rugged allure, heroines embodying both grace and tenacity, all enveloped in the cloak of dramatic suspense.

An addictive, thrilling read......

Step into the world of control...this was a skilfully written erotic thriller and fourth in the Control Series... this instalment focused on Sonia and Matthew both highly skilled bodyguards and both with dark pasts that have left them irreparably damaged physically and mentally...

This was such an addictive read...all the characters were interesting and complex....the interactions between the two main characters were at times sweet, sexy and always genuine.. they both have so many problems to overcome that it all appeared insurmountable but they are surrounded by a wonderful cast who provided strength and support when it was needed and the fact that the main characters from the previous books in the series continued to play an important part in this story was an added bonus.......

I loved the scene towards the end of the book with the interfering news-reporter......it demonstrated the strength of friendship and loyalty between all the characters.....and left me wanting to know more about the reporter's backstory....

I was captivated by this book and it's original plot...fast paced and full of intrigue with elements of BDSM and erotic sex as well as an awesome group of friends and lovers ....I received a copy of this book as an ARC from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review...

I received Controlling Darkness as an Arc from Author Anna Edwards. Wow! This was an awesome story around Sonia and Mathew. Sonia was hired as a body guard. A profession chosen based on her own tragic past. Mathew has his own demons, but knows he can fix Sonia, without acknowledging, his need to address his issues This story was a great balance of mystery, crime, danger, sex and love. The downside for me was, that this is book 4 so there was a bit of a chunk i didn't understand, so I'd recommend reading the other 3 books first. That is what I'm going to do!

I absolutely love this book. I read it in one day. It had me laughing, crying and the sex was steamy. I like a book with drama it it. It makes the story come alive for me. Yes, the main charactersite had some problemsort, but real life has problems too. We as people are not all well and wonderful, and in this story it shows that we all have some kind of demon. I now have to go back and read Anna's other books. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Sonia and Matthew have a very interesting story. It was not what I was expecred.

The middle of the book felt like it was dragging. Parts felt like a "How To BDSM" And other parts felt like Sonia's story. I found myself wanting more of the story about their jobs and what brought them together.

Then it came! I was so excited to get to the action of their story. It became fast paced and drew me in to want to read faster to see how it all turned out.

I loved this book. I received an unedited copy for a voluntary honest review.

I have previously read the other books in this series. I have to say I love the characters of both Matthew and Sonya yet I always wanted to know more of their backstories. Anna Edwards delivered. This book is focused on the both the working and personal relationships of Matthew and Sonya. The story of Sonya had me emotionally involved from the first page. I can not get enough of how she grew as a person throughout the book. Matthew has his own story and I knew it would be great. The sexy scenes where just that SEXY. I can not wait to read more from both the series and Anna Edwards.

I love Anna Edwards and her books. There is just something about her books that make me so excited to read them. She always creates heart stopping scenes that I am always addicted to and cannot get enough of. Just like Controlling Darkness. This book really stood out for me because I always wanted to know Matthew and Sonia's story. There was just something unique and amazing about them. Controlling Darkness truly impressed me.

Thrilling. Addictive. Emotional. Steamy. Controlling Darkness was a sizzling suspense that pulled me in. I was wrapped in its action packed clutches. Controlling Darkness was a story of letting go, love, pain and self love. There was drama. There was a heart pumping and explosive story that gripped from the first sentence to the last one. I was blown away. Anna Edwards definitely produced a solid and exceptional read that titillated me. Controlling Darkness also brought out the feels. It was a full experience of emotions that totally moved my soul.

Matthew and Sonia are my favourite couple in the series. They have amazing emotional and sexual chemistry that I genuinely like. Their thoughts and feelings really cut me so deep than any other couple. It made me really appreciate them a lot. Sonia went through a lot of pain but she was survivor. I loved her strength. Matthew was the perfect alpha male. He was dominant, protective, caring and possessive.

I freaking adore this series and I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I know it its going to be explosive.

I have been anxiously waiting on Matthew & Sonia's story and I was not disappointed!! While reading the Control Series, I knew Matthew had secrets, I just didn't know what. What I wasn't expecting was Sonia's secrets and the past she had. Anna Edwards knows how to weave together a story with twists, romance, and suspense! I love how she started Matthew and Sonia's story from the beginning. I was curious as to how she would do this and I loved getting to read their full story and not to come in reading it from the middle. I wanted to know how they got together, what made them work, the whole thing because I love them as a couple! They both are so tough and so capable of defending themselves and taking care of others, but we get to see how they do when someone breaks those walls down! I love this entire series and it appears that there is more to come! We get to see a little more of Grayson and Sophie in this book and I think it revealed just enough to make readers want more of their story. I certainly do! Can't wait for the next book Anna!!! If you haven't read this series and love BDSM with suspense and action, pick it up!

At first I didn't think I would like this book but the more I read the more I liked... I really loved that Matthew helped Sonia learn to deal with her past and just when you think Matthew is going to deal with his bam something happens...I kept saying please don't die....but then near the end Matthew disappears and Sonia is heart broken.. I'm really happy with how the ending was... Wonderful book Anna Edwards can't wait for the next. I voluntarily read an ARC copy of the book in exchange for an honest review

Controlling Darkness (The Control Series Book 4) by Anna Edwards is the fourth book in her series, The Control. This is the first book I have read of hers and in this series and I can't wait to go back and read the others. This story can be read as a standalone but if the others are as great as this one then I recommend reading the entire series. This story is about two people who has painful pasts but that pain can become love. This story is full of action, suspense and of course, hot, steamy romance. One of the things I love about this author is her attention to detail and her development of these characters. These characters will take you on a roller coaster ride of various emotions that will keep you engaged until the end. This story will pull you in from the first word and keep you wanting more from these characters. Find out what happens to these two people as they learn trust and let themselves heal.

Sonia Anderson has just taken a new job as a bodyguard and one that will change her life forever. She is assigned to the role of guarding Amy North, girlfriend of a billionaire, James North. The psychological evaluations don't show anything about the secrets she holds when she was growing up. Her scars represent a world that is out of her control.

Matthew Carter is sharp, a master at his trade and long time standing bodyguard for James North. His past involves being responsible for the death of a colleague, not just any colleague, his wife. The revelations of the misguided control are explored here in Controlling Darkness.

Sonia and Matthew's relationship is one that I believe there was attraction from the beginning. They both have pasts that have left scars and demons that need to be dealt with. Will they heal one another? Will they learn to forgive? When they are faced with danger, what will happen to them? Together these two are sweet and strong. She is independent and stubborn. She is strong and can be a little feisty at times. He is strong and dominant. He just wants to keep her safe and help her gain self confidence back that she lost as a child. You will love them together and they really do make this story flow. They complement each other and have a way of pushing the other to deal with things they don't think they are ready for. The secondary characters are just as awesome. I hope we get to see more from them in the future. They complete the story and help keep it engaging. Find out what happens to this couple as they are faced with their demons, are they safe? Will they find their HEA or will fate have other things in store for them?

This is my first story by Anna Edwards and I know it will not be the last. I can't wait to go back and read the rest of this series and can't wait to see what the next installment of this series will bring. Anna lives with her husband, two children and two cats. She spends most of her time writing although she still does some accounting which she has done in the past. She enjoys making and eat cake and taking photographs. You will love how this story just pulls you into their world. You will find yourself getting lost in their world and hoping for them to get their HEA. You will find yourself getting mad at certain times but also needing ice water to cool off in other parts. This story is fast paced and I couldn't put it down until the end. There are some twists and turns that you won't want to miss or see coming. I highly recommend this story as I know you will love this story as much as I do.

I accepted an ARC in exchange for an honeat review.

*Spoiler FREE*

Its hard for me to review this as I really wasnt that gripped by the story and I found I wasnt overly compatible with Anna Edwards writing style.

I really struggled to get into this, I found the start very slow and slightly tedious so I kept putting it down and being reluctant to go back to it. I did finish this book eventually but it took me a few days to do it.

This is a dual POV novel which follows Sonia and Matthew.

I found it easier to keep going a bit further in as the story picked up pace a little. It was difficult to read one particular part when Sonia reacts a particular way to something but I was able to get past it as it wasnt too heavy on the detail during that part. Some books I have refused to continue reading due to intense detail on it so thats something and it did add a little more to the character.

(I sound so negative and I hate that)

There were a few good scenes and I did quite enjoy one of the hotter scenes. The dual POV was written well without confusion between, which was good as Ive seen other writers get confused between who they are meant to be writing from.

Overall I honestly wasnt all that gripped by the story, I didnt get on with the writing style and so I probably won't read the other books in the series.

If you like BDSM, and the other books in the series dont let my review put you off, no-one enjoys everything.

Anna Edwards - Controlling Darkness

I received this book for an honest review.

WOW!!! I loved Matthew. Wouldn't take crap from James yet would protect him with everything in his being. Matthew was more than James' bodyguard. He was his friend. Sonia, was added to the protection team for Amy, James' girl. Originally without Amy knowing it. Sonia stayed out of sight yet with her eyes on Amy and would protect her with all of her being. We knew Matthew had secrets from his past that still kept him from moving forward. Sonia had secrets yet Matthew was able to uncover them during his vetting of Sonia. He waited for Sonia to tell him herself...creating that trust.

Their connection was strong and couldn't be denied. Matthew knew Sonia would be his sub. He had to teach Sonia and she was a very willing student. Sonia had self doubts that were because of her past. Matthew finally helped her get past those self doubts and bloom. Sonia was Matthew's healer as well....

Holy crap....I didn't see Beth coming into the picture. SNAP!! Both Matthew and Sonia were injured. Matthew ran and left Sonia in James' hands. His fears could have lost Sonia yet in the end they had the HEA. I love Matthew and Sonia. Anna what a great story.

Thank you for sharing. I absolutely love the Control Series... Can't wait to see what is behind the Grayson and Sophie's story.

Having to hide herself no longer...

I received an Advance Reader Copy for Controlling Darkness written by Anna Edwards and voluntarily reviewed this book. This is the 4th book in the Control Series, and the first I have read from this author. Ex-MI5 Matthew is the personal bodyguard to Mr. James North. There is a new bodyguard to the North Family’s security team, Sonia, who is a 25-year-old virgin, who has still has a lot to learn about life in general, but she comes highly recommended for the position. Matthew is Sonia’s boss, and he finds himself quite drawn to her but tries valiantly to retain his professional veneer around her. An unforeseen incident forces Sonia to expose herself to those around her, as well as her past, but Matthew won’t have it or withhold himself back any longer from being involved with her. What follows is a gradual guidance into a secure learning experience into the BDSM lifestyle, in which Sonia feels beautiful and sexy because Matthew won’t have her thinking she is anything less to him.

Interesting and detailed storyline, many developed supportive secondary characters which add nice layering to the whole read. I may have to go back and read the first three to see what I have missed!

Overcoming Darkness
This was my first encounter with the writing style of Anna Edwards, and plunging into part 4 of a series was not quite easy. I loved the book, no question about that, but not knowing the writing style, it has made for some confusing moments. What I found confusing was the lack of transition in scenes. The scenes were beautifully written, but I missed something. Like a scene towards the other scene is not written out fully, difficult to describe.
The story starts when Sonia Anderson starts her new job, the one that will change her life. Sonia is a bodyguard, well trained and she is highly recommended to guard Amy, the pretty young girlfriend of billionaire James North. Sonia however has secrets and scars, a representation of a world beyond her control. She meets Matthew Carter, the bodyguard of James North and an ex MI5 agent who feels responsible for the death of his colleague and wife, his secrets he can’t control.
In the story you’ll encounter love, Master and submissive scenes but also scenes of violence, loneliness and hurt, but love conquers all. Because when you can afford to lose control of your darkness, you can afford to lose control of your past, then the love you find will give you freedom.

Reading Sonia and Matthew's story was a rollercoaster of emotions. I'm not sure how Anna Edwards was able to pack so much into one book but wow. There was so much intensity, action and most importantly love that I had to wait to review because it left me speechless. The author does not shy away from talking about difficult situations and subjects like self-harm.

The BDSM lifestyle aspects were important but did not overshadow the main storyline unlike how it is sometimes utilized in other books. This book reached every corner of my mind and every vessel in my heart because it is was that powerful.

There were definitely several steamy parts but Anna Edwards found perfection in describing connections. It wasn't just the connection between Sonia and Matthew either, it was the interactions with secondary characters as well. The complete successful world building made me want to walk right into the pages.

5 stars for intensity, passion, connection and love.

Once again I am not disappointed, Sonia and Matthews's story was worth the wait.
Terrific storyline, wonderful in its darkness and tragedy, betrayal and love.
My heart went out to both Sonia, for her completely tragic start in life, and to Matthew, with his tortured tragedy.
The connection between these two is so electric and sexy, you immediately put yourself in Sonia's shoes.
Darkly sexual scenes work really well, the bdsm is the icing on the cake.
Cannot say how much I love this book, and love the way Anna writes, her character are relatable, and real, the situations she puts them in are completely plausible, which leads to the excitement.
Really, really recommend this, if you have possible trigger issues, please be advised, but other than that a tremendous read.

This was my first book for this author. I am hooked. Def need to read the first three of this series which I already downloaded.

I loved how the relationship developed between Sonia a new bodyguard and Matthew. Matthew is Mr. North's other bodyguard. I liked that the story revolved around the bodyguards it's a nice change.

Sonia's character has layers upon layers. Matthew is gentle yet firm with her. They are a perfect balance for each other.

Angst and BDSM two of my favorite things!

I really enjoyed this book! The story line and characters were great. There's a lot of emotional roller coaster in this book. My only real complaint is that at times it seemed rushed and some scenes left me wanting more to them. But in all a great story. You fall in love right along Matthew and Sonia. You root for them. This is the 4 book in the series. I completely recommend it!

Book four picks up where book three left off. Where we explore Matthew and Sonia’s story.
Sonia was tasked with protecting Amy. Matthew was James’s bodyguard, but more than that beyond his job description. We know Matthew has secrets from his past that keeps him from moving forward. Sonia has secrets too, yet Matthew was able to uncover them during his vetting of Sonia. Matthew does the right thing, waiting Sonia out, for her to hell him herself, creating that trust.
There is connection strong, there attraction would not be denied. Sonia responds to Matthew’s dominance. Matthew knew Sonia would be his submissive. He had the need to teach Sonia and she was a very willing student. A virgin, not adverse to his sexual lifestyle, Matthew knows that Sonia has responded secretly to the way James dominates Amy, and she cannot help but wonder at experiencing those things herself. Matthew then introduces her to BDSM through Grayson’s club, and it is an experience that she soon will not forget.
Sonia had a lot of self doubt because of her past, and Matthew’s past, one he still could not reconcile within himself, but together they were each other’s strength, helping each other to get past there darkness.
But the secrets, lies, twists and turns lead to the inevitable yet devastating truth, when Matthew’s family is targeted and his past comes back in the form of his supposed dead wife, the cruel and suggestive taunts and punishment they endure, Matthew and Sonia fight for their love and their freedom, both injured in the process, and in the end, Matthew takes the cowards way out, letting his fears get the best of him. Yet James brings him back, helping him to see sense, and realising the error of his ways, Matthew knows he cannot do without Sonia in his life.
Those s€x scenes in and out of the bedroom, including that BDSM MMFF scene was downright f@#$ing sensual and erotic, the language and dirty talk was filthy and such a turn on, dark, provocative, naughty, twisted, forbidden, emotional, wrong, intense, captivating, deliciously wicked, dirty, hot, steamy, passionate, possessive, powerful, wet, dominating and ferociously wild.
Such a roller coaster of emotions, a page turner, fast paced you literally will not be able to put it down. This author clearly knows how to write, a very beautifully written story with our favourite characters, exploring dark and intense themes that will have you saying what the f@#$. Readers will be ensnared from the get-go, and it will have you coming back for more. There happily ever after was perfect, as if I could have written it myself. And if you thought this author was done, she is not, so hold on as we anticipate what book five will bring us.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was the 4th installment of the Control Series and centers around Matthew and Sonia. Both are strong, badass characters that are able to let their walls eventually come down around each other. It's a beautiful story of overcoming your past, facing your demons, inorder to embrace your future.

Anna Edwards has taken the reader on an amazing journey through all emotions. The life that Sonia and Matthew lived through is heartbreaking and tragic. It leaves them with scares and walls around their heart that are sky high. I absolutely loved this story and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

This is book 4 and not a stand alone, reading all the books in order is important. Also, Anna is a British writer so if you are an American without much experience with British English, there will be some terms that you aren't familiar with.

Wow...

Anna Edwards has definitely upped her game in her writing with this book.

This is by far the best book in the series. I love the chemistry between the two characters.

All you saw in the other books was how strong and powerful Matthew and Sonia were. However, in this book you also get to see their weakness. Weakness that leave you totally moved.

Both of their background stories had me captivated. Both had a diffrent upbringing but their pasts helped shaped their future.

But what happens when you are made to face the ghosts of the past and find that all is not what it seems? Are you able to forgive the ones who have wronged you or are you left fighting for the life of the one you love and your own?

Bring on Sophie and Grayson's book. I can't wait to find out what is Miss Bridgewaters issue with this gang is.

This is my first read by Ms. Edwards.
Controlling Darkness is part of a series. But can definitely be read as a standalone.
In Controlling Darkness we meet Sonia and Matthew.
They are skilled bodyguards and both of them have painful pasts.
Matthew is determined to find out about Sonia's secrets knowing he can help her.
The book has action, drama and very steamy scenes. A lot which included BDSM.
The chemistry between Matthew and Sonia is off the charts and hot.
I also really enjoyed the friendship and loyalty between all the characters.
Writing in third person isn't my favorite style but that's just me.
Using "I will..." or "I am..." instead of the shorten version then in the
next sentence saying "I didn't..." sometimes threw my off and kind of
made it sound like two different people were talking when it's actually the
same person speaking throughout.
At times the book was a bit slow and lagging. Then it picks up and along the way.
