Do You Know Jute’s Dirty Little Secret? - Sedona AZ

At Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care in Prescott AZ, we clean all types of rugs!  Our primary goal is to always make sure that each type of area rug gets EXACTLY the care it requires.  Part of our pre-cleaning inspection is determining the type of cleaning that each rug needs – from full submersion washing to hand cleaning.  We are well-equipped to care for every type of area rug and rug fiber out there.  Except for one.

Jute is the one fiber that we cannot clean due to all of the problems associated with cleaning it  Jute is a rough fiber that is used in making twine and rope, and it is sometimes even used to create area rugs.  While these rugs can give a home a really lovely, natural look, they are also very difficult to clean.

Here are just some of the problems that jute rug have with cleaning:

                    -  Becoming misshapen and rippling.
                    -  Brown staining and watermarking
                    -  Shrinkage
                    ​​​​​​​-  Uneven discoloration
                    ​​​​​​​-  Among many other things!

Jute naturally has a very weak structural integrity.  This means that it is more susceptible to rippling and shrinkage and becoming misshapen than other rugs.  While jute certainly looks nice in our homes and adds a nice natural touch, it’s pretty clear that manufacturers don’t take into account that these rugs are going to get dirty!  Eventually, every rug will need to be cleaned and manufacturers don’t really think that far ahead when making these types of rugs.
