Another look at construction sites around River North

Construction crews are working on delivering new office space, apartments, condos, and hotel rooms

Work continues on the pair of new buildings near the Hubbard and Wells intersection. Previously titled Centrum Hubbard, the named of the mixed-use development has been changed to Hubbard221 by developer Centrum Partners. The project features a nine-story office building with a curving facade that follows the adjacent ‘L’ tracks while a 23-floor residential tower containing 193 units will stand directly next door. Both buildings are designed by Hirsch Associates Architects. Work on the project began last year and the official website for the project suggests a fall 2017 delivery for the new residences.

3Eleven

This new tower for 311 W. Illinois Street has been in the works for some time now, but it appears as though workers are getting to the final stages of construction. The 25-story, 245-unit project comes from Chicago’s John Buck Company, a developer that has been quite busy in recent years. The tower is rising immediately west of Assumption Catholic Church, replacing a surface parking lot that had been used by the church. Designed by FitzGerald Associates, the 281-foot tower will feature a roof deck, 3,000 square feet of retail space, and 109 parking spaces.

Renelle on the River

There’s not a lot to look at in this moment, but work has certainly started in earnest on what will eventually become an upscale 17-story condo tower next to Chicago’s Trump Tower. Backed by Belgravia Group with bKL Architecture behind the tower’s design, the luxury project will offer just 45 dwelling units. Seeking well-heeled buyers, units in the new tower start at $1.3 million and climb all the way up to $3 million for a penthouse.

Moxy Hotel

The under-construction Moxy is unusual in the sense that the project is being built according to the existing zoning of the site at 530 N. LaSalle Avenue. This development cycle has seen zoning changes across the city to allow builders to construct as tall and as dense as possible. Construction permits issued late last year helped solve the mystery behind this short eight-story project from River North’s Albert Friedman and partner White Lodging Services. Many details remain murky, but the official Moxy website signals a mid-2018 opening.
